Welcome to Flying Class. I am Professor Connolly and I will be your teacher for this year. You may call me Professor, Prof or even Coach, I'm not too fussed about that during classes, just make sure it's Professor Connolly off the pitch, okay? So we all know that all first years take flying lessons in their first term at Hogwarts, but what about the rest of the year and of course the rest of the school? Well Flying, like all other subjects, is available up to NEWT Level. Many see Flying as an easy option as it does not involve as much writing as other subjects such as transfiguration or Potions, but it is far from being an easy option. Flying Classes are very time consuming and require dedication, determination and a willingness to get out of bed early in the morning. Classes are not compulsory after first year, but I do ask that they obtain at least an E at OWL Level to continue on to NEWT Level. However, if you have a grade A, I would be willing to accept you into the class as long as you are happy to put in extra hours and comit to a few extra sessions outside of classes.
All the classes will include all the houses as it just makes things a little bit easier. This is how the classes will be grouped:
- Beginners: First Years
- Novices: Second & Third Years
- Experienced: Fourth & Fifth Years
- Advanced: Six & Seventh Years
Now onto the subject of homework. I believe that homework isn't really essential until you reach OWL Level, so homework will be infrequent for Beginners and Novices. When homework is set it will usually consist of three short questions and you need not write more than 100 words for the whole assignment. If you should feel the need to do so, be my guest. For Experienced and Advanced students, I will be setting essays, but again you only have to write 100 words for these. Homework will be posted here sometime during the duration of the class in question, so it is advisible to keep checking back. House points will be awarded for assignments which are handed in on time.Beginners

Beginners: Okay so most of you have never flown before, don't worry, you'll be just fine. And for those of you who have flown before, you won't be forgotten either, so no messing around, alright? Good. We'll be focusing on basic technique, how to fly safely and basic broomstick control.
Novices: You all know what you're doing so we'll be moving onto more complex things. We'll begin with basic broom maintanence, boring I know, but it has to be done. Then we'll move onto flying in formations as well as practicing several drills which will improve upon the basic flying skills you already know. We'll also be starting some friendly Quidditch sessions.
Experienced: The year will start with teams in the British and Irish League and how tactics vary between the teams. We will be testing out these tactics and evaluating them with critical essays and class discussions. Your flying skills will be tested via various forms of test, including an obstacle course, yes that is the infamous one you've probably all heard about. We will also take an outing out to watch a match and then analyse it afterwards.
Advanced: You have all proved yourselves worthy to be here and now the real work starts. Complex analysis of your fellow classmates will be our first stop. Flying NEWT also requires that you coach younger students so I will be taking small groups of two or three to help me teach the Beginners for one lesson a week. We will test out formations of our own creating and then give them up to the rest of the class who will test them and suggest improvements and make general comments. Fitness will be a key part of the course and this involves early starts, namely out on the Quidditch Pitch before breakfast. Hope that's not a problem for anyone.
So basically this is a list of all the students who have signed up to take Flying. To be added to the list, simply fill out the code at the bottom of this thread. It really is that simple.
