Victoire sighed, swirling her coffee around with her finger. The light brown liquid was unusual for most Leaky Cauldron goers. Usually it was tea that was ordered. But here she could walk in and get a cup of coffee, served magically of course. With her head in her palm, she leaned against the table, her elbow propping her up. She was tired. She'd worked a long shift at the Ministry, and being Under Secretary wasn't easy. She had to make sure that the Minister had all the necessary things for his job, she had to look in on the department heads, check with the Aurors on the happenings, and schedule appointments and meeting for the Minister. Sometimes it was all so overwhelming. Especially now that students were beginning to show up injured. Parents are on high alert, and she was trying to help the Minister reassure them all that nothing was wrong.
Glancing over at the Daily Prophet, she shook her head. Of course those students had made the front page. She pulled herself up, straightening her back. Raising an arm, she pulled her hair form its clip, her thick blond curls bouncing down. Stretching, she kicked off her shoes below her chair, letting her bare feet dangle. Grinning, Victoire gulped the rest of her coffee down. Then she slipped from the chair, picked up her shoes, and walked to a couch. Sitting there, she leaned back against the soft cushions. Her room upstairs was ready for her, but she wasn't ready to go up yet. Turning her head towards the window, she watched the raindrops run down the window pane. The rain was rather soothing she'd found. Yawning, she blinked a few times to get the sleep from her eyes.
The bell above the door jingled, announcing the presence of people coming in. She looked over, only slightly interested. A few people she'd never seen, and a few people that she hadn't seen in a while. Pulling her legs up underneath her, Vic sat deeper into the corner of the couch. Taking her wand out, she waved it in slow circles around in the air, practicing some new spells she was learning. She was going to try speechless magic at some point, but right now she stuck with whispering softly under her breath. As one spell backfired and her coffee cup exploded, Vic swore something in French. Thankfully she was only 1/8 Veela, so she wouldn't ever be able to switch back and forth like others. While she frowned she waved her wand and her cup instantly mended, then refilled with her coffee. She glanced back at the group of people who'd just walked in, and thought she recognized one of the men as Teddy Lupin. Shaking her head, she tried to hide the blush that came to her cheeks from just thinking his name.

Voices poured inside the warm main floor of the Leaky Cauldron, mixing with the deep laughter coming from the group of men that just entered the pub. Teddy wiped a hand on his wet cheek and sent droplets of rain water crashing to the ground. "Next time we'll double check for Blast-Ended Skrewt infestations before we set out, Lupin," remarked a dark haired man that was almost the same age as Teddy and gave him a hearty thump on the back. He gave his teammate a sarcastic smile before tugging his beanie off his head. "Yeah, we wouldn't want you passing out from a sting, mate!" Another shouted across the room. It encouraged a new wave of chuckles from the rest of the group much to his dismay. Teddy could only laugh along. His treacherous strands had long lost its cool hue and now had turned shockingly blond.
The office has been receiving no other calls than reports on small feuds about neighboring properties and weary shop owners asking for assistance the whole week.Today's raid was the first for Teddy's team within the last two months and he had to spend it outside the site. It was what he and his team leader had agreed upon with Teddy insisting not to be sent to St. Mungo's. The senior settled on giving him a talk about the importance of focus on the field with an unsuccessful attempt to smother a chuckle that threatened to come out as an embarrassed Teddy scratched at the purple rash splattered on his neck and left shoulder. He unconsciously tugged his shirt higher at the memory. His neckline only fell back into place, the fabric barely covering his skin reaction. "Gits," he muttered under his breath as he slid into the last seat available on the bar.
Teddy gulped down half of his glass and winced at the unfamiliar taste the liquid had. He leaned to his side to grab the bottle that the barkeeper had given them. 'Dungbarrel Spice Mead', he read silently. He set the bottle back and pushed his half empty glass away from him. There was no chance that he was finishing that drink-- even if it was free. "No, I will not pay for your second round," Teddy said exasperatingly with an eye-roll as he felt an elbow nudging him on the side. His eyes darted to his teammate beside him when his incessant poking did not stop. His brows furrowed in confusion as the man jerked his head, curiously letting his gaze wander toward the direction he was pointed to.
He knew better than to believe his assumptions, but he was unable to fight back a smile as it dawned on him that the woman he was looking at was no stranger. Teddy surprised himself by how easily he managed to stand up from his seat and start to decidedly walk to the other end of the sofa. Perhaps it was the liquor that relaxed him? Slightly probable, though he barely had more than half a pint. "Hey," he offered lamely, wearing a particularly queasy smile.

With her wand still in hand, she watched the group of men joke around with each other. They all seemed to be pretty good friends. As they passed around a bottle at the bar, Vic couldn't help but stare at Teddy. He'd definitely grown up some. She noticed his hair change from that cool blue to an almost platinum blond. It made her smile a tiny bit, remembering that he was a metamorphmagus. Putting her wand down on the table next to her, she took another long drag from her cup of hot coffee. The group of guys at the bar were all laughing heartily and joking still. Looking down into her lap, she folded her hands, intertwining her fingers. She was debating on whether or not to go see Teddy. It had been years since they'd even talked.
Glancing up she saw a man looking towards her, almost pointing at her with his eyes. It was then that she saw Teddy look at her. Forcing back a blush, she averted her eyes to stare at the fire in front of her. It changed from blue, to green, to red, to purple. The colors were always changing. And then she heard it. Teddy had walked over to her, stopping in front of her. He said something, and Vic's eyes shot up to meet his, her face warming. Standing, she fumbled around, smoothing out her shirt, her fingers pulling some fluffs off it. A slow blush started to creep its way up to her cheeks, and she smiled. "Hey Teddy," she said back. Sticking her hands in her pockets, she rocked back and forth. She could feel a couple of stares coming from the bar, and it made her blush even redder.
Man, all he'd done was come over to say hey and she was already in a tizzy. Obviously she still had that schoolgirl crush on him. Clearing her throat, she looked up at him. "So... How have you been? I can see its raining outside. You look...wet?" she offered, smirking. She grabbed her wand and waved it, whispering a spell that would dry him off. Hopefully it wasn't too forward, it was just a friendly gesture. She sat back down on the couch, patting a cushion further down. She grabbed her coffee, enjoying the warmth it spread through her hands. Victoire hummed a song quietly. Sipping the coffee, she watched the light from the fire flicker across this corner of the room. "So. Just out with the guys? " she asked. Then she realized it really wasn’t any of her business. Jeez woman, you might as well just ask him if he has a girlfriend! Calm down, he might just be over here to say hi and be done with it…
She remembered that time on the Platform then. She might have been his girlfriend that day, but that’s not how it worked out. They had been snogging on the Platform, waiting for the train to take off. She had liked him a lot back then, but after that day, things had cooled down and nothing had happened at all. Since then, they had been distant from each other. She had spent most of her time studying like her mother wanted, and he’d spent lots of time pranking and having fun, like a normal teenager. At least, that’s what she assumed. Victoire thought about her studies. Maybe if she’d been more outgoing, she could have had more fun. But all her hard work had paid off, because she was now the Senior Undersecretary. Frowning into her cup of coffee, she waited for Teddy to say something back to her. She looked up at him, a goofy grin on her face, trying to make it seem like she wasn’t thinking about past things.

Obviously, he wasn't the only one who is apprehensive about the situation. Maybe it wasn't his smartest move but he had no choice on the matter now that he's standing in front of a fumbling Victoire. Teddy took a small step back, giving them both a favor and the comfort of personal spell, but not before catching a whiff of a pleasantly familiar smell that stirred an odd feeling in his chest. He quickly dismissed any thought about it and blamed it on the horrible mead he just had. "Are you alright?" He gave he a look of concern and a lopsided smile, his hand lazily motioning to her. It was quite a nonsensical question, seeing as Victoire wouldn't react that way if she was completely alright but Teddy couldn't help but be his usual teasing self. He marveled at how flushed her cheeks looked even against the soft glow of the fire. He wasn't even sure if a metamorphmagus like him was capable of blushing that hard.
"Well," he started and reached behind him to retrieve his beanie from his back pocket, "I've been feeling itchy the whole day." Teddy let out an embarrassed chuckle and scratched his left shoulder. "Hopefully you've been doing better than me," he smiled boyishly. Duh, Ted. She's only the Senior Undersecretary for god sake, he mentally scolded himself. He was about to explain why he wittingly braved the on going rain with no coat or umbrella when she caught him off-guard with her spell. A ripple of warmth ghosted the surface of his skin as the spell seemed to wrap around his entire body. "Uh... thanks," he said instead. Over her shoulder, he saw his reflection on a foggy window. His hair had started to change back and there was barely any trace of blond left. He put his beanie back on his head as precaution if ever his hair wanted to betray him yet again and display his abilities for everyone to see.
He plopped down beside her close enough to let him drape an arm on the back of the couch without the tips of his fingers touching her shoulder. "Yes Ma'am," he answered jokingly, answering as he would if he saw her in the Ministry. "It had to be done. I assume you've heard everything like every single occupant of the room has," he shifted in his seat to look at her. "They won't stop until I get them drunk." His hand that was sitting atop the backrest closed into a fist as he tried to think of something to say. Teddy didn't do silence well especially since it almost always came with awkward tension. His eyes landed on the cup Victoire clutched, watching as the steam that wafted from her drink mix into the air with every breath she let out. If his memory served him right, Victoire only had coffee when she needed to escape from exhaustion. Surely the task of keeping everyone assured of their safety and trying to figure out the source of the chaos at Hogwarts would burden anyone greatly. "Long day, huh?" he asked, his voice coming out more like a whisper.
It was then, for the first time after how many years, that Teddy really looked at Victoire. It didn't even reach his notice until now that she had taken her shoes off. Sure, he sometimes saw her (or more of a glimpse of her blond head) along the busy corridors of the Ministry, but he wasn't exactly in a position that allowed him the chance to have a chat with her. A twinge of regret tugged at his heart and he suddenly felt that he missed out on a lot over the years he goofed around. And to think, he almost had everything that he told his nan he would love to have when he was a grown-up if only he didn't let things go as they did. Teddy looked up just in time to see Victoire flash him a grin and it was the moment that he swore to himself that he wouldn't let go this time. In fact, he's pretty much sure he could even if he wanted to.

Victoire noticed that he’d taken that small step back before sitting down next to her. He must have felt some sort of… of unease as well. After all, years had passed since they had visited or talked. But she was relieved when he sat down next to her, the dipping in the couch cushion giving it away that he’d decided to sit. She looked over and smiled at his comment. Itchy? What had he gone and gotten himself into now? Most likely something that he and his team had to go after. Sipping at her coffee again, she turned her body to face him, crossing her legs now. The warmth of the fire washed over her then. It slid over her body like a warm blanket, keeping her warm yet free to move about. There was an awkward silence floating around them now, and she wiggled her toes, trying to think of something to say. You’d think that after not talking to him for years that she would have so much to tell him, that she would have stories upon stories to talk about. But sadly no.
She grinned when he said, “Yes ma’am”, and almost opened her mouth to shush him, to tell him to call her by her name. But he kept talking so she kept quiet. Vic smiled. "I see, their goal is to get drunk? Well, they deserve it. They’ve worked hard by the looks of it. " She thought for a moment, then spoke again. "But why do you have to be the one to buy rounds?" she asked, laughing. There were many men, and drinks would cost a fortune. She saw him eye the cup of coffee, and remembered he like it as well. Just as she was about to offer him some, he spoke. Her face dropped, exhaustion moving over her body. Thank goodness for spells to remove bags from under the eyes, because Vic’s were pretty bad with lack of sleep. Sighing, she used a hand to push back some hair from her face.
"Yes, yes it has been a long day. More like a long couple of weeks. Things are getting out of control at Hogwarts, and parents are beginning to get worried. They’re looking to the Minsiter, and the Minister is looking to me! It gets frustrating having to assure worried people that their children are alright, when I’m not sure if they are! " Flushed, she felt embarrassed. She had just gone on a tiny rant. She hadn’t meant to, she just let it all out. Her frustration, her anger, her feelings. All of it. If she was true Veela, she might have freaked out. But since she was only 1/8th, she was fine. Gulping down a hot mouthful of coffee, Vic felt a little bit better. Setting it on the stand next to the couch, she turned back to Teddy.
She saw him looking at her. Studying her. She wondered self consciously if he was trying to decide if she’d gone crazy. She would think so too, if she’d just heard that rant come out of somebody’s mouth. Her fingers were wringing together now. She didn’t want to be seen as a loony. Especially by someone she liked. Her eyes darted up to meet his, a faint smile crossing to her face. "But I’ll be fine, really. It’s nothing to worry about." She saw his arm along the back of the couch, and thought about reaching out to take his hand to reassure him. Or maybe she just wanted to take his hand… Either way, Victoire was thinking about it. Maybe just the touch of his hand would calm her racing mind, still her beating heart. But instead she used that hand to again brush the falling hair from her eyes and behind her ear. Maybe someday she would have the courage to take his hand. If they saw each other again. And then she knew that she would see him again. He was a family friend. At any family gathering he would be there, and so would she. They would see each other for sure.
"So. Who’re your friends over there? Anyone I may know? " She couldn’t really recognize anyone there, but who knows. Those could be students she’d gone to school with. She hadn’t exactly stayed in touch with the other kids from her year. She’d gone for a job at the Ministry, learned how to become an Animagus, and climbed her way to the top. She’d forgotten a lot of people in that time. She’d obviously stayed in touch with the Weasleys and the Potters. But she’d sort of moved on and became serious. Her job required her to be serious. But right now, she wanted to have fun. Being here with Teddy made her want to do something other than worry about missing students. She wanted to push the thought from her mind by doing something other than filing papers, conducting press conferences with the Minister, and scheduling luncheons.

Teddy nodded in agreement to her observation. His team really did work hard today and deserve every single drop of liquor they were enjoying. He was only one man, but him out of the picture changes a lot of things. His task had to be distributed to others who could still manage to do them. Although a nagging thought rang in his head. Their team leader wouldn't like this one bit and they're bound to get a mouthful when they show up hung over and barely functioning tomorrow. "Its only fair, they say." He looked back and shook his head at how noisy his friends were, their words beginning to slur. "They did everything I was supposed to when I got to sit and nurse my rash," he shrugged, smiling at the sound of her laugh. The bill would be a definite pain. There's a likelihood that he would have to spend less of his of this month's wage, but he didn't mind it much. They were his mates and you don't keep tabs on your friends.
Hearing her deep sigh, Teddy needed not to hear her answer. A girl could only take so much and he had a feeling Vic was nearing the brim. He couldn't help but regard her with a small smile though, and he tried to hide it by biting his lip. He didn't want her to think he was being rude and inconsiderate of her feelings. "I'll drop a word to my cousin, then," he winked. He knew well how the Ministry worked. People who work for someone higher than them, which includes more than half of the people who work in the Ministry, typically gets the short end of the stick while their superiors boss them around. Of course, he was just kidding. His family never had any contact with his maternal relatives ever since his nan ran away with his grandfather with the exception of Sirius Black. Relative or not, it would be impossible for him to to talk to the Minister more so convince him to, for the lack of a better word, do his work better. But hey, its the thought that counts right?
On an impulse, his hand laying in his lap rose and closed over her clasped hands. "Don't wear yourself out too much, Vic. I'm not sure if I can handle paying for those bums' drinks and send a pack of every kind of sweet to your room at St. Mungo's at the same time," he said softly, his eyes gazing sincerely at hers. His hand gave hers a slight squeeze and pulled, his touch lingering more than he intended to. Teddy admired how determined Victoire was of her career and completely proud of where she was now. He could never say that he, in any moment in his young life, had worked as hard as she ever did. But work tends to take its toll on people and grip their lives with stress. And that's something he wouldn't wish on her. He made a mental note to try and take her some place to have some fun. That is, if he finds the courage to ask her tonight.
He stood up on one foot, a hand on the sofa's backrest to support himself, only to sit back down with one foot tucked under him so that he faced her and had a clear view of the men lined up at the bar. "Most of the people in our batch that took Law Enforcement signed up for Auror training," he explained. It was no use to get up and introduce her personally, he figured. He wouldn't want Victoire to meet his co-workers in a state of drunken stupor, and he was sure they would thank him for his decision. Teddy scooted closer towards her, lowered his head to her ear and started to tell her about his teammates one by one. "See those two on the far right of the barkeeper?" he pointed a finger towards two dark haired men that sat next to each other. "Alan Faire and Jamie Walter. They were a year ahead of us. Faire was a Slytherin, and Walter was in Hufflepuff."

Vic nodded her head in agreement. They both thought highly of his team, even though she didn’t know who they were. They were obviously good workers though, and hard ones at that, or else she would have had to give letters of dismissal to their boss. It was nice to know that some people enjoyed their jobs. At a mention of his rash, she got a little nervous, wondering if he was okay or not. But by his relaxed nature, he was fine. She could have sighed a deep sigh of relief just then, but held it in. Best to seem not so desperate.
Victoire kept her eyes on his, her fingers still wringing together. She was nervous that he had been turned off by her little tirade. Maybe she should have just kept her answer short and sweet. She could have just been like, Oh hey, yah, life is kinda crazy right now, but it’ll get better soon. But that’s not how it played out. She dealt the crazy cards, now it was time to see how he reacted. But he was a sweetheart to boot. And he just took her hands in his, their warmth and comfort spreading to her, making her feel much better. She squeezed his hand in thanks, a warm smile plastered on her face. Then he winked and her heart fluttered in her chest, making her pulse jump. He joked about her keeping her health up, but she knew he meant it. "Oh Teddy, you wouldn’t have to send me every type of candy out there, really. Just come visit me!" She raised a hand and waved the statement off, almost giving a psssh sound. It was cute that he would mention it though. Then she laughed, feeling relaxed while sitting here talking to him.
He stood up then, their hands falling apart. He repositioned himself so that he could face her better, just as she had a few minutes before. He leaned closer to her, and started talking lowly, his head angled to be just above her ear. His rough voice rasped in her ear, his breath tickling her skin. They were sitting closer together now, and his body heat radiated off him. She scooted closer, her hips touching his. Gosh girl, he’s just as gorgeous, caring, and amazing as he was back in Hogwarts! Vic thought, her eyes following the men along the bar to rest on those right by the bar tender. He rattled off a few names and houses. She recognized them names, and gave a little smile as she thought of the younger, teenager, forms of the men before her.
As he talked, Victoire couldn’t help by get shivers up her back. She masked them by rubbing a hand against her arm, like she was trying to warm herself up. Which made absolutely no sense, as they were sitting by the fire. Stifling a yawn, she listened and made little “mmhmm” comments every now and then. She wasn’t bored, she was just exhausted. "You know Teddy, I think I actually might remember those people from school," she said, tilting her head to look up at him. Right then she probably would have kissed him, but there was a room full of people, and his friends were at the bar. She was only going to kiss his cheek, but the people in the Leaky Cauldron, and her nerves got the best of her. Besides, what would happen if it just turns out that he wanted to be friends? What an awkward end to the night, eh? He might not want to be friends with her if she crossed the line and made things uncomfortable.
But that spark of chemistry seemed to hang in the air between them. She thought she felt it, and her stomach rolled with the thought of kissing him. Vic had always been so headstrong and confident. But Teddy brought out her girlish side, the side that wanted to write about him in a diary, the kind that made her want to call on a girlfriend and tell her all the details of this night. Teddy made her want to be dangerous and do something different with her life. Maybe it was the fact that she had always been so blah. She rubbed her hand up and down her arm again, and settled for just leaning against him. Her head nestled against his shoulder. Victoire’s stomach stopped fluttering around for a few moments, and she was able to concentrate on Teddy again.

Teddy remained quiet and allowed her to take the time to familiarize herself with the names he gave. As much as he would hate to admit, his silence was just an excuse for him to enjoy the feel of her so close to him. A small smile eased its way onto his lips as he heard her make a tired sound, her interest still there despite her apparent fatigue. "That's it. Just us three Hogwarts alumni on the team," he whispered after a while. He didn't get to spend much of his time with his two colleagues back in Hogwarts, but in a few years they've all grown on each other and became good friends with the rest of the men in his team, watching out for each other in every single mission they set out for. Teddy trusted them a great deal. "They're really nice bunch... when they're sober and coherent," he mused.
A soft expression washed over his face as he seemed to stare through her, his head swimming with thoughts as he looked back at her next to him. He was never one for detail and was quite unfocused, so he thought it was funny that he suddenly found the contrast of the way her eyes lit up when she laughed a while ago and the way it was now glazed over in a struggle to fend off sleep as she spoke to him. His eyes drank in the way her blond curls fell over her shoulders, a few wisps caressing her face. Who would've thought that this night was going to turn as good as it was at the moment? He fought a compelling urge to lean in and close the space between them completely. A replay of what happened on the platform would be more than nice, but it wasn't appropriate. An impromptu replay would be rude and might earn him a slap, too.
"Are you alright?" he found himself asking her again at the sight of her hand trying to soothe her arm. Deeming that the cold atmosphere the rain brought with it was getting to her Teddy moved a little more closer, sitting with both feet resting on the ground. His breath caught soundlessly in his throat when he felt the weight of Victoire's head rest on his shoulder. His free hand carefully pulled his beanie further down his forehead and over his one ear to cover his hair. He hoped to Merlin that no stray strand of hair had escaped to catch anyone's notice with its amusingly bright shade of pink. A faint warmth coursed through Teddy much like earlier but it was different in so many ways. It gave him a feeling as though he could take down a whole gang of rogue wizards with a single spell. It made him want to stay glued on that spot with her forever.
"I miss this," he thought – or at least thought he did. Both of his eyebrows rose in surprise as he heard his voice louder than it would have sounded if his thought had remained in his head. Teddy opened his mouth to speak and to explain himself, only to snap close again. He scratched nervously at his temple, willing his mind to come up with something. "I mean, seeing you. Talking about...things," he said in an attempt to save his little slip. Realizing he may have just made it sound worse, he looked away. Teddy cleared his throat and sat up straight, careful not to move too much and disturb Victoire. It didn't sound too bad, he told himself. It didn't sound sappy at all...maybe she'll think of it as platonic? A small part of him hoped not.

Vic closed her eyes for a few moments, listening to the sound of Teddy breathing in and out. She pulled her legs up underneath her, tucking them close to the side of her body. The rise and fall of his chest was soothing, and she drifted off for a moment, her breathing slowing. But Teddy’s voice made her crack an eye open, and she smiled. Licking her lips she looked up at him. Only the three of them? Well, that was better than him not knowing anyone. She chuckled at his comment about how they were nice men, especially when sober. She noticed then that he was staring at her, or rather it looked like he was staring at her and thinking off into space. She reached up and pushed some hair from her eyes. It was a bit disconcerting to know that he was looking at her without really looking at her.
But Vic realized that it was really him just thinking off into space. She was known to do that from time to time, and people would ask her things and she wouldn’t notice. She wouldn’t notice that she could be staring right at someone while spacing out. She laid her head back down. When she came back to the Leaky Cauldron tonight, she’d planned on drinking some coffee, maybe having a drink, and then going to her room to sleep. She wished she could have returned to her home to have a drink and then go to bed. But she was currently out of a place to live. So she’d started renting out that room upstairs to live in while she looked around for a place. She didn’t want to burden her parents by staying at Shell Cottage and apparating to work every day. She knew that it was stupid, but she didn’t want to inconvenience anyone.
Finally he snapped out of his daze, making Victoire realize that she was dazing away as well. He’d asked her if she was alright, then pulled her closer, obviously thinking that when she rubbed her arm she was tired. And that was true. She was exhausted. But she wanted to sit on this couch with him all night. She nodded her head and smiled a little. "I suppose. There’s not much I can do about things going on right now." She patted his hand. Things would look up at some point. Then he spoke once again, and it made her blush. She looked away for a moment. She hadn’t expected him to say that. She didn’t have a response to it, but thankfully he did. Although it wasn’t really something she wanted to hear. He missed just talking… She tried to play like it didn’t make her sad that he was covering, that he was trying to make the situation less awkward. Sucking in some air slowly, Vic gathered her courage, deciding then that she would do what she had thought about doing for the past twenty minutes.
"I actually miss us Teddy," she whispered, her eyes darting up to lock onto his. Heat flushed in her cheeks but she kept her confidence. Maybe if she told him this, then he would realize that he wasn’t the only one enjoying this right now. She pulled away from him then, running a hand through her hair. Her fingers ran through the thick curls, something she did when she was nervous. "I hope that I’m not being too forward. But I do miss this…" Her voice trailed off into a whisper. She’d always been so confident in herself and now she felt like a giddy school girl. She was tempted to stand up and stretch. Instead she settled for just staring at him, willing him to say something that would make her feel better. Even if it wasn’t anything to do with what she’d just told him. She just wanted him to speak, to say something to her.

He couldn’t believe his luck when things were almost perfectly unfolding as each minute of the night ticked by. He mentally cursed himself for making things uncomfortable for both of them, just when everything seemed to go their way. The last thing he wanted was to end this night and go home having a heart plagued with disappointment. Although with the phrase that accidentally spilt out of his mouth, he better prepare himself for whatever she would have to say. His head turned to face her once more when he heard her speak. Teddy wore a funny look, his eyes questioningly looking at Victoire. Despite the fact that he was sitting inches from her, he was still unsure if he had heard her whispered response correctly but was terrified to ask thinking that he might hear something he would not like at all. In seconds he felt himself recover from his nervousness that had momentarily set his senses askew. And that was when a light flutter started in his stomach.
She misses us, he thought, oddly finding the need to repeat it to himself. He didn’t know exactly how to explain why and identify the main reason that caused his heart to suddenly start thundering in his chest. A part of him worried that it was completely audible for her to hear because it felt like it was as his pulse almost drowned out the throaty laughter in the background. Here was a grown man who had undergone two full years of training for intense battle and fatal situations rendered speechless by a harmless shared sentiment. Teddy never dealt well with voicing his feelings. His difficulty with verbally expressing his fondness was one of the sad downsides of growing up without a traditional family setup. So he always settled for working to try and make the small remainder of his family and friends feel that he appreciates them, that he’s thankful for those who stuck around him.
He looked down and avoided her expectant gaze. Teddy didn’t trust himself to speak yet, not wanting to give her senseless blabber that his barely contained excitement would inevitably bring. Merlin forbid that he give her anything less in exchange for the backbone she had shown – something that he obviously still lacked. But the little smile that split the gentle features that he had acquired from his father spoke of the way he felt more than he could ever do. He let out a deep sigh to calm his nerves before he returned his gaze back at her. “That’s great,” he finally spoke. So much for a well thought answer. “I don’t mean that missing someone is good because I know how much distress that can cause, but what I meant to say is I think it’s wonderful that we feel the same way.”
Teddy couldn’t help but chuckle at his own fidgety speech. He simply smiled meekly at her, hoping that she would understand his scattered explanation. After all, she was one of the few who actually didn’t find his hyper active tendencies and unending stories from his creative imagination annoying. She had put up with all of that since they were able to form a single coherent sentence. Once he was sure that he was fully composed his hand closed over Victoire’s hand again, his fingers curling around her small digits. “I’m not letting go of you this time. I won’t lose you again.” He had meant for it to be a light joke between reunited friends, but he found himself seriously meaning every single word of the vow he had just made.

Victoire pushed her hair behind her ear again, her eyes clouded over with thought. She had just voiced to him how she felt. What if things went wrong again? What if things went horribly wrong and they words she just spoke broke them apart forever? She didn’t know if she could make it through that again. She had been so sad when they had split apart the first time, all those years ago. They had only just found each other again. She wanted to say that it was fate that they had met her at the bar tonight. Gathering some courage, she took a deep breath for stability. Leaning towards him, she hugged him tight. She buried her face in his shoulder.
He finally spoke, after what seemed like a century. She pulled away from him and looked up at him. He seemed genuinely happy about what she’d said, which let her know that he was glad to be back to talking with her. It made her think that maybe they could work out together this time around. His fingers wrapped around her small hand. She smiled softly, her eyes practically sparkling. Vic hugged him again, leaning into his body. She was being really forward right now, but she felt like she needed to do this. Sighing, she closed her eyes, her arms wrapped around his torso. She felt so relaxed right now that she could have fallen asleep. "I’m really glad that you’re not gonna leave me Teddy," she mumbled. Although the room was noisy, she was still able to curl up against Teddy and start to drift into sleep. Reaching one hand around to rest on his chest, she smiled sweetly.
"I’m really tired Teddy," she slurred, falling deeper into a sleep. She snuggled a bit closer, breathing in his scent. He was so strong, so sweet… So everything. In her pocket a coin buzzed, startling her awake. She fumbled around in her pocket, trying to find the button that would turn it off. Yawning, Victoire looked over at Teddy, sleep written all over her face. "Teddy, I’m kind of tired. My room is right upstairs…" Covering her mouth with another big yawn, she blushed, embarrassed that she was so tired. She wiped underneath her eyes to remove any makeup that may have clumped up there, and then stood up. Slipping back into her shoes, she grabbed her wand from the table. Sticking that in her back pocket Vic looked over at Teddy. Grabbing his hand, she pulled him up to stand in front of her again.
"I’m really glad that I met you here tonight. It’s been such a long time since we’ve talked." She reached up to place a hand on his cheek, her warm skin connecting with his. She took a step towards him, and forgetting that she was back in her shoes, scuffed her heel along the floor. Tripping, she fell towards him, an embarrassed and frightened squeak erupting from her mouth. In a flurry of blonde hair and flailing arms, Vic fell ungracefully towards the floor.

Teddy held back the urge to answer back sarcastically, but with good-hearted intentions. He wanted to tell her that it was near impossible for him to leave her with the way she was holding him. It was ludicrous to even entertain the thought to pull away from her. Not when her arms around him had given him a feeling of comfort and had mysteriously melted his worries away – at least for the night. His chest rose slowly as he took in a deep breath before he expelled a long, soft and shaky sigh. His quiet smile reflected the indescribable feeling that was overwhelming his entire being. Gently slipping an arm around her side, he grasped her arm loosely and allowed her head rest on his chest. His teeth nipped on the inside of his lip, reminding himself to knock off the goofy grin he currently had on his face.
He heard her softly mumble something unintelligible; his ears barely catching her utter his name. He let his eyelids flutter shut as she burrowed sleepily against him. Her slow breathing almost lulled him to sleep, his own fatigue enticing him to join her sweet slumber. Victoire jerked awake, and he watched her feel about for whatever had reverberated, effectively rousing her from her light sleep. He smiled at her apologetically and nodded. “’I understand. It’s getting late anyway.” Teddy moved aside to let her fix herself and pulled his feet closer to the sofa, careful not trip her. He pushed himself off the cushions when she tugged at his hand and stood in front of her. Smiling at her, he couldn’t help but notice how adorable she looked with her small form and heavy lidded stare
“It has. We’ll have no more of that, okay?” he said cheekily, his head leaning into her hand. Her shriek had startled him more than anything else, his back recoiling in response and both his hands sliding down her arm to brace her. His movement wasn’t quick enough however, and the top of Victoire’s head collided with his jaw, causing him to bite down on his own tongue. Tears immediately gathered at the corner of his eyes as pain spiked up his head. Teddy held her against his chest with one steady arm while he pressed the palm of his other hand over his mouth.”A’ you hur’?” he tried to say without moving his tongue that still throbbed from the subsiding pain, blinking away the tears that brimmed his eyes.
Hands securely holding her elbows, Teddy helped Victoire back to her feet keeping her as close to his body as possible in case her legs still couldn’t hold her up. “Maybe it’s best I walk you to your room, yeah?” he suggested, genuinely worried about her. He gave the bar behind them a quick glance, remembering that he had brought along with him his whole team and checked on how his friends were doing. Almost half of them were slumped on the counter, unconscious and snoring, while the other half were exchanging slurred words in a heated debate of something pointless. They can manage a few minutes without him.

She was thankful that Teddy reached out to help steady her, but then felt her head connect with his chin. As he brought her up to hold her against him, she gasped and put her hands up around her mouth, her eyes wide. "Oh my gosh Teddy, I’m so sorry!" He asked if she was hurt, and she shook her head no, still embarrassed. Before she had tripped over her own feet, Victoire had heard Teddy say that they should work on not talking more often. She smiled a little at that, not feeling so bad anymore. She really hadn’t meant to collide with him. She noticed that he kept her held tight against him to steady her. She wrapped an arm around his waist, her head just reaching his shoulder.
She started walking to the stairs when he suggested that he help her to her room. In all honesty, she might need help getting up the three flights of stairs. She shuffled along, her head still resting on his shoulder. "Teddy," she began, not sure about how to ask him what she was thinking. She didn’t want to ruin the night. Maybe she should just forget it. Or maybe she should just grow a pair and ask him already! The second thought made her blink a few times. She hadn’t realized that she could be so persuasive! " What do you think stopped us from staying together in school?" It all rushed out of her at once. Taking the stairs one at a time, she glanced back at the bar when he did. His friends were all still there, but most of them were passed out drunk. She smiled a little bit. Her legs wobbled a little and she continued up the stairs.
One flight of stairs later, Vic was even more tired. She felt like something was wrong with her. She was too tired lately, and it had come up unexpectedly. It was like someone had cursed her and she wasn’t able to sleep as well anymore. Rubbing a hand across her face, she continued up the stairs. Once they got to her room, she turned to face him. Looking up at him, she leaned towards him. "I really have missed you Teddy. We should get together again." She could hear her bed calling her name. But she wasn’t ready to let go of him yet. In her half awake half asleep state, she thought that if she let him go right now, he would just float away and she wouldn’t see him again. Fumbling around in her pocket for her key, Vic held the metal close to her, so she wouldn’t drop it. Yawning quietly, she patted his chest.
Tomorrow she would have to get out of the office and stretch her white bunny legs. She felt the need to right now, but knew that the energy it would take to turn into a rabbit would pretty much use her up. Vic decided that tomorrow morning she would take a run and stretch those little legs. Sighing, she realized that while standing here thinking to herself, that Teddy could have been talking and she wouldn’t have known it.

Teddy shook his head dismissingly, turning his head to the side as he rolled his tongue against his teeth. "It's okay,” he smiled, feeling the sharp pain that his teeth had caused subside. He walked alongside her, his long legs taking lazy steps towards the stairs that led to the rooms in the upper floors with an arm draped around her shoulders. Not that he was being snobbish, but Leaky Cauldron doesn’t have the best accommodation in Wizarding London. Its wooden floors creaked loudly with each step, making it impossible for anyone to pass by unnoticed. He had the misfortune to stay in the oldest room for the entire span of his training, until a colleague had invited him to share a flat. The room service was a great advantage though, because he had no talent for cleaning.
He had been expecting that she would eventually ask him that question when the time comes that they would meet again, and he had already figured out what to say to her even before this night but she still caught him off guard. He looked at her once and turned his attention back to their feet, watching as they climb each step. “I’m sorry Vic,” he began, calling her by name for the first time since he approached her tonight. “I’m sorry for dropping everything when we’d finally taken the leap.” It didn’t take the young Teddy long to realize that he liked Victoire more than a friend, but he had taken years to build up the courage and let her know. His arm around her tightened as he felt her steps waver as they continued.
They had finished walking up two flights of stairs, and was about to reach the floor of Victoire’s room still Teddy had yet to answer her question. “I guess I was just scared,” he said, breaking the silence. She wasn’t the first girl that he fancied, but with them being great friends and practically growing up together, things were sort of different – a little more complicated. He knew it was because he cared more about Victoire than any one of the few he dated. He slid his beanie off his head, the fabric dragging his turquoise hair downwards. He felt that she deserved his honesty, void of any form of mask. “You were doing so well and I didn’t want to hold you back,” his voice spoke, not strong enough for his words to be completely believable.
He listened to her tell him that she really did miss him and he nodded with a small smile. “I’ll drop by your office when I can. Or maybe pay you a visit here.” His voice faltered slightly, after hearing her say that they should get together again. He knew what she really meant, but his thoughts had over-analyzed things again for him. He was unsure if she still had her attention on what he was saying, but he went on otherwise. “I was afraid that you’d realize that you could do better than to drag around a prat like me,” he said with a little nervous laugh. His hands “So I thought, since we were fantastic as friends that we should just be. But that’s just me…”
