The common room was quiet as usual during the school day, but even so there were bodies moving within the common room even at this time of day. Most of the other Gryffindors within the common room were already busy burying themselves in gossip about the House Tournaments this year. Sure there were rumors of the attacks occurring at the school, but he was still unsure who was responsible behind them. There was always something going on within Hogwarts and he always wanted to get to the bottom of it just like his father. Somethign was fishy and he was hoping that the students would pick up on it sooner than he had. One of the Slytherin's always acted suspicious around him, but he could honestly never prove that it was her at all. The oldest of the potters had joined the Gryffindor common room in silent thought, but that wasn't like him to sit there contemplating what was going on.
Sometimes heading straight forward into danger as his impulsive nature sometime caused him to get into trouble, but even so he was relaxing as he had some of his books laid out in front of him. There had been rumors of howling at night too coming from the shrieking shack, but James knew better since he knew about the shrieking shack from his father. James was wearing the usual common Gryffindor vest, and had on the dress pants to go with the dress code of the tower. The climb up this tower was always a drag, but he enjoyed the company of his fellow Gryffindors within the common room. Being the seeker on the Quidditch team also got him a lot of respect as well. Living up to his father's name as well was going to be tough as is after eharing about him being the seeker on the Gryffindor quidditch team as well.
Thoughts of Quidditch and studying occupied his mind as he then licked his thin lips at the same time brushing a hand through his shaggy brown hair. It was well-kept and combed to one side usually...today was no exception. Eventually most of the common room was empty and he was alone, or so he thought. Finishing with the book he had been reading, he decided to lay back against the chair to close his eyes. Then a thought occurred to him as he let one eye slowly open to look around the room to spot a female still within the room. James had seen her around before, and not really paid much attention. They still talked every so often, but he remembered her name since she was on the Quidditch team as well.
Sitting up almost instantly in case he was being rude or she wanted to talk at all, now smiling in return. In fact, James thought she was kind of cute in her own right despite how she seemed to be alone most of the time. "Hey, Alaya, is it?" he asked calmly, "How are you?" he asked calmly, his deep, smooth, voice surprisingly calm and confident too. Unsure if she would even talk to him, but they had been friends since he had actually talked to her first usually. Probably cause he gave her space when she needed it too is why he was also another of her good friends, but he didn't need to know about her past to be good friends. What was important to James was the here and now. Notes; Hope that was alright, not the greatest, but the only thing I could think of haha.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • There wasn't much going on in the common room when Alaya slipped in after her class. However as always students would file in. She noticed many enter and leave and she was glad to have her quiet corner to herself. She had a five page paper to write for being late to transfigurations. Lucky for her she was good at the subject and so the paper was not going to be too hard. There were rumors and bits of information going around the common room about the upcoming tournament. Alaya took no notice to them. Sure she placed her name in the goblet but it was best not to worry about rumors.
She wasn't much for being around her classmates that is except when one the field and working with the team. She very much enjoyed Quidditch and being a beater was the best position for her. For once she was relied on. And she did her best to not let the team down. Because really it wouldn't be much of a game if everyone fell unconscious.
She looked over when she heard her name being called. It was James. She smiled. James was one of those few people she talked to and even one of the fewer who knew about her condition. He was a really great friend and she was glad he took the time to notice her a few years back. He did give her the space she always longed for but he knew just the right time to start up a conversation.
"Hey James" She stated warmly. "I am doing fine all things considered. Whats up with you. We haven't really talked in a while" She stated. It was true with the tournament coming up and the rumors spreading there wasn't much time for chit chat. It was just how it was but no matter. It was best to live in the present and not worry too much about what might or might not happen. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • F O R . I . W I L L . James was indeed easy enough to hang out with, but he had made it a point to get to know most of the Gryffindor team, even the captain at times. There weren't many people he didn't talk with that were from Gryffindor as almost everyone seemed to talk to him when he didn't want them to. It was a rare condition none-the-less that Alaya had, but he understood completely as her exterior did well to hide her feelings. There was nothing like listening to a friend, and right now was perhaps that time as he was soon sitting down on the couch just to enjoy the comfort of the common room. It had been a long day and he didn't want to stand up anymore as he had been earlier since he noticed Alaya was about to leave.
The Gryffindor tower was silent at this time of day too, plus it was soon only the two of them, making it almost a warm kind of atmosphere, as he James was looking up at Alaya. Sure, she was cute, but he did have his eyes set on someone else even with her condition he would have considered her. Alaya was just a good friend of his he had opened up to in return, and she was the other one who treated him just cause of he was not cause of his name sake. It was always annoying when people were always calling him due to his last name, and it annoyed him immensely. Not many people did it, but those Slytherins sure liked to mock him for it.
"Yeah, well, classes kind of got me caught up and then there's the quidditch practice taking up most of my time too, of course you're usually there for when I practice at least..so I'm not bored," he mused slightly, "Classes are alright right now, and as for whats up, nothing now, just talking with a friend if you consider the now events," he chuckled, being a smart ass now.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • If there was one thing that Alaya learned from her past was to not judge people by their family. She knew how annoying it could be to be compared with the family and never really having your own name, your own identity. She respected James for who he was. She could care less who his family was. The warm feeling of the empty common room was welcomed. She loved the common room when it was almost empty. Not just because of her anti-social nature but because it felt warm, home like. It was nice having a simple conversation with a good friend and not having to bother with other students.
She smirked at James' answer. He was always one to lighten the mood or put a smile on someones face. James was certainly a site. He was more than just good looking, he was hansom. However, Alaya would never date him. Not in a bad way it was just she saw him as a good friend, maybe even a brother at times. He was an interesting person to talk to. She was glad that she was on the Quidditch team because it was never boring not with James and some of the other. It made the day worth it just to watch the antics of some of the practices.
"Oh yes, practice. I do not believe there has ever been a boring practice with the team we have now" She laughed slightly. The was a genuine smile on her face as she spoke. "Considering the now events? Well that changes everything. I thought I was talking to a Gryffindor not a Jack Ass" She teased. She meant nothing behind it. It was just a habit of hers to play along with whatever game someone was trying to pull off. It always made the conversation interesting. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • F O R . I . W I L L . F I G H T . U N T I L The Bitter End

James was nodding towards Alaya again, and this seemed to be a constant thing with them whenever they were in the mood to talk. Not that it bothered him any to actually be conversing with her as it was sort of private right now, but he saw her as his sister as more than anything. Although, there were few people he could say he treated like a sister that he respected who could take care of herself and fend anyone off on her own. Alaya was definitely the strong, type of female that many others should have learned from long ago when she first joined the Gryffindor house. Respecting her strong nature, and even having learned her secret was a few of things that only made him wind up respecting her more.
Shaking his head softly as she was retaliating with a quip herself, it was obvious he was going to have tread carefully while talking with her. Best friends, rather than enemies, was fine with him, considering he had his eyes set on someone else. The Ravenclaw Isabella, man, she was a beauty, but he really didn't talk about her to anyone else. James knew that whenever the Gryffindor team got together for practice, there were always some members on the team willing to pull pranks on the other members that were practicing. That didn't stop him from flying around the outskirts of the quidditch pitch to taunt them every so often, despite the bludgers wanting to chase him too.
There had only been one case when a bludger had actually noticed him, and he managed to barely escape it's clutches as it seemed to be a rogue bludger all on it's own. Unable to shake it off, it would be impossible to stop it with just his bare hands, but now that he was within the common room he then shook his head. Getting lost in thought again, "Well, I'm afraid, all the Gryffindor's have left this building and all that are left are jackasses it seems," he retaliated in a friendly nature. "Studies are really taking a toll on me, plus I hope to actually get into a real quidditch match soon, I want to show off my skills more, just like I'm sure you want to beat people more too, to help me out," he chuckled as he had thought it be clever despite how lame it sounded.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Respect was one thing that was very hard to earn and Alaya was glad she had the respect of James. He was a really good friend and a trust worthy person. They did not talk all that often but when they did it was always interesting. It was nice having a really good friend to talk to at the school. She kind of wondered what she would do when he graduated since she was a year behind him. Well what ever happened she would cross that bridge when she got there.
Alaya found it hard to get close to people so when it came to dating she was not one to jump into a relationship. Knowing her she would be one of those who would go their entire school years without dating. It wasn't bad but at the same time it wasn't really good. It just showed how much she disliked people. Well disliked talking with people. Sure there were a few that she was fine talking with but one the grander scale, not so much. She smiled at his comment about a Quidditch game.
"I would agree that there needs to be a game soon. I would love to break my record" She mused. Her record was an inside joke with the Quidditch team. Alaya could be very violent on the field and she always sent at least one person to the hospital wing each year. If she remembered correctly she sent two in just the first part of the game last year. She most certainly loved the game, it was an escape for her. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • F O R . I . W I L L . F I G H T . U N T I L The Bitter End

James was already amused that she was enjoying the years she had been here, and who wouldn't? After all she had succumbed to peer pressure on the Quidditch team at times to defend those other Gryffindors that were mistreated for their ideals. Hell, James even admired Alaya at times for the way she stood up for herself, and that take-no-shit attitude that considered rather highly of. Considering he had the same philosophy going for him for the time being, and there wasn't really any bad news that could scare him away or make him frown. It was all in a day's work, but earlier today he had to have had what, two hours of quidditch practice already? Sure there wasn't much time for anything, however, he knew that even with this school work and all the events going on this year was going to be fun.
Even with a plot going on in the background, and behind the scenes. James could only hope this was going to be a fun year, and having entered his name into the Goblet, many of the Gryffindors would obviously cheer him on. Just the thought of it almost put him into a state of great authority, but then he knocked himself down a few pegs realizing that most people probably just cheered him on due to his father's reputation. James didn't need that going around, and that was another thing he and Alaya shared out on the field. The fact that they're parents are what made them to this day, but they weren't going to be anything like their parents at all. Once more, he was finding himself caught back by what Alaya was talking about, even as he was watching her eyes focusing on his own.
There was a natural glow about them, even as he considered having asked her what it was like to be in that form at times when she was out of control, but he'd rather risk not losing her friendship over some silly brash question. "Hah, I know what you mean, I'd like to be able to catch the snitch within just one second of the match starting, of course I'm sure I'll be the first one to grab it, I hope," he chuckled as he said this, starting to just kick his foot up and down in the air to keep his foot from falling asleep.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • It was great having a friend like James. They had a lot in common and he was one of the few she felt like she could really trust. She could never bring herself to be near people or even consider trusting them with anything no matter what it might be. James was different. Maybe it was because he actually took the chance to talk to her. It was after she tried out for the quidditch team the moment there was a space open for a beater. The only reason she tried out that day was because one of the professors suggested it for her after she ended up in a fight. They said it was be a great way to release anger without getting into too much trouble. Now she was a different person from those earlier years. With the apartment and having people she could trust, Alaya was starting to feel part of society more so than she ever did.
The tournament coming up was a frequent topic of discussion. Sure she didn't mind hearing about it but she was more concerned about who would be chosen. She would support any of those who was chose for Gryffindor. She did place her name in the goblet. She made it seem that she wasn't really one would wanted to be chose but deep down she wanted it. She wanted that chance to prove herself and to no longer feel that weight of her past holding her back.
She laughed at James' attempt to stop his leg from falling asleep. "I am sure you will do fine in the game. Besides, we need to make sure the other houses remember that they don't mess with Gryffindors" She stated jokingly. It was great to have a decent conversation every now and then. She did keep to herself but there were those rare times when she was up to talking and she was glad James was there. "So what do you think of the upcoming tournament?" She asked. She wanted to see what James thought about the whole thing. It was exciting but at the same time there was something else going on. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • F O R . I . W I L L . F I G H T . James was considering what she had said and yes he realized the tournament was this year. What better way to prove to everyone that he was always better than his brother, but that was just his way of keeping him in check at times. Sure, he knew his little brother could be a pain in the butt sometimes, but that's how most brothers worked in these times. Even with his own mind set as it was, he was intent on making the best of the house cup. Quidditch was now far in the back of his mind as he was imagining himself being cheered on by a crowd of people as he had become the champion for Gryffindor.
Well, he hadn't, but in his day dream he had. Winning the hearts of many and most of the girls fawned over him. Even a faint glimpse of the other students around him would have noticed a strange glow from him. Of course, as he snapped out of it, he soon looked back to Alaya, nodding his head again. Should he tell her that he entered his name into the goblet to attempt to enter into the tournament. Sure, there was only a certain amount of words he could say before she even found it. Plus it would be slightly weird if she really wanted to join in while he was already getting in.
"Well, actually, I'm pumped for the tournament, and it's finally something to look forward to for my last year. I'm sure you'll miss me when I'm gone, I also put my name in...not really sure what I was thinking. I guess I just like leaping forward and acting bold," he spoke to her quite confidently as if he was going to win it instantly. Sure, he'd have to try to impress her some other way, but right now he knew that Alaya would want to perhaps enter it herself. Luckily he had spilled the beans, and he was unaware she had entered too. Was it a last minute decision that had spurred him to enter his name into that darn cup? Nah, probably the promise of adventure and danger at every corner that lured him.
The Potter blood burning deep within him was yearning for it, and wasn't scolding him at all for doing what he thought was right.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • She figured as much. Alaya knew that it was only a matter of time before the Gryffindor decided to place his own name in the cup. She wasn't sure if she should come clean and also mention that her name was entered. She did not tell anyone about her desire to enter the tournament nor did anyone else know that she had entered. It was something she kept to herself, like most things. But this time it was different. It really didn't matter to tell anyone if she entered her name because if she wasn't chosen it wouldn't effect anything. On the flip side if she was chosen it would come as a shock and she could always pull of the whole last minute thing.
She wasn't one for attention and the reasoning behind putting her name in the cup had nothing to do with fame. She had an inner desire to prove herself to the rest of the world and to her peers. She was nothing like her family and she had the guts to face any challenging to prove her worth. She knew that her chances of being selected for the tournament were slim already but now that James had entered, her chances were really numbered down to a minuscule amount.
It wasn't something to worry about. What happens next will be up to fate. James was like family so why should she keep something like this from him. "Well good luck to you. I guess that makes us somewhat of rivals" She laughed to make what she said next seem humorous. "Because I entered as well" She smiled warmly. It was kind of funny when you looked at it. She had little chances of making it into the tournament but just putting her name into the goblet was a huge step for her. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • F O R . James was already considering what he could say, but there was something odd about the house tournaments these days. Even with the previous ones being not so long ago, he had watched many students try at it and only a few managed to follow through to come out on top. In the end it wasn't like the last few where this one they knew what the tasks were gonna be, instead they had no clue about what tasks they faced. Licking his lips softly as he looked down at the ground for a moment, he was anxious for their first quidditch match too. Sure it was a little hot-headed to think that already, but he wanted to at least keep his feet up in the air at times.
It was fun having the freedom of flying around, but as soon as she mentioned that she entered the cup he shrugged his shoulders. If they were lucky, it would be one boy and one girl entering, then again, that would have been more fair to some. James was the only boy who had entered for Gryffindor, but he wasn't sure if that's how it was going to work. Of course if they both somehow got in by some weird fluke, well he'd have to participate no matter what. Harry Potter had told his son about his encounter with the Triwizard Tournament a while back when he was actually in school. Unsure of how this was going to actually work out, he soon nodded in return.
"I'm afraid, I can't say the same, rivals we may be, but even so, it's really up to the goblet of fire to decide. No one knows how it will choose, but I'm certain that if either one of us get in...well best of luck to us I suppose. I'm afraid I don't want to know what the tasks are just yet. For all we know, we could have an ultimate death match with the teachers and have to duel them," he said to her. Thinking that would have been a rather cool idea though, so he nodded again. Yes, Alaya would definitely be a fun partner to challenge. Plus have some good ol bantering fun with whenever she had the urge to talk about anything.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • It was up to the goblet, or fate or whatever it was that controlled the decision making for the champions. She had to disagree with James on not knowing what the tasks would be just yet. That was the most interesting part of the whole competition. Sure it it was great to wait and be surprised to some degree when you figured out what a challenge was but on the other hand it was good to be prepared. She laughed slightly at the comment about a duel with the professors. It would be an interesting sight. Only time would tell what was in store for the champions.
"Very true, it is up to the goblet. I think it would be an interesting duel with the teachers. Hey and you never know if I'm not chosen then I could very well be part of one of your challenges" She was purely joking on the second part. Trying to lighten the mood up a bit. There was a slight nervous energy in the room and she did not like it. She very much enjoyed her conversations with James when they were had and did not like them ending on a tense note. It wasn't the best thing in the world.
She was curious to know exactly how many people from Gryffindor entered. James was the only male that she knew had placed their name in the cup. She had heard Lily had as well. It wasn't a shock to her, she kind of half expected Lily to enter along with her brothers. She couldn't wait for the names to be chosen and announced. There was something about this year that was she believed was going to be really exciting. However, she couldn't quite figure out what. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • F O R . I . W I L L . F I G H T . U N T I L The Bitter End

James looked over at Alaya and smiled, he really didn't care if there was tension in the air at all. The only thing that got him all worked up was the fact he only knew of a few Slytherin's that entered, and he thought he entire house would have put in their names. Even so, he was unsure what was going on this year, and the thrill of surprise was always evident during the school years when Kingsley had been headmaster. This had been the best deal since he started here, but it also helped that Kingsley had also been part of the Second Wizarding War. Of course, James had another concern now...that Ivan kid dating his little sister.
He knew he really didn't have a say in what she did, but it seemed odd that she opened up herself more to him than she did her own brother. Of course he wasn't about to let it out that he was going to be chosen. Since he didn't want there to be tension between her and Alaya at all. Not that he ever saw it that way, but he would be sort of disappointed if he didn't get chosen or any of his family. It would just seem wrong if a Potter or Weasley wasn't chosen. Figuring he should answer before he got further distracted from his original goals, "Well, I'm sure you'll get chosen, I won't mind if I don't and be there for you. Don't worry we'll always be friends," he said to her softly.
Trying to figure out the last time he had talked with his younger sister, but even if he had seen many of the other people he knew entered. Looking at Alaya, he hoped that her truth wouldn't come out either, but if anyone had a problem with that he would be there for her. Once more he gave her a genuine smile in the long run while he was stretching his arms out and hearing his arms crack a little. Speaking of the tasks had got him thinking to many other events that were likely to happen.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • There were so many different events and rumors floating around the school. Which was normal, just not to the magnitude as it was that year. Then again with the tournament there was so much that could spread around the school. It was interesting listening to the stray gossips that bounced off the walls. It was calming listening to simple things as who is dating whom and this and that type of things. However, Alaya was always interested in hearing about the upcoming tournament since she was really excited for it, like most. She usually did not get worked up over anything except for Quidditch. But, this could be her chance to prove herself and stake her claim in the wizarding world.
Alaya was grateful, extremely to be able to call James a friend, well more so a brother than anything. He always had the right thing to say. She smiled. "Hey nothing can go wrong if we have each others back" She stated while saluting James. It was a playful jester but what she said was meaningful. She really meant it. She would have James' back no matter what happened. And with what was coming up he might need it. Alaya knew that James' was really likely to be chosen as the Gryffindor champion and she would make sure to be supportive.
She looked over James and knew that there was something on his mind that was eating at him. She changed the subject. "So what is on your mind?" She asked knowing that whatever it was that was bothering James had to be important. She wasn't trying to avoid talking about the upcoming tournament but some things were more important. The tournament did not house the fate of everyone. There were still other things that held a strong presence in the lives of the students. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • F O R . I . W I L L . F I G H T . James didn't know up from down, but he soon regained his cool macho look that everyone knew him for. The same James that didn't take bullcrap from anyone trying to hurt his best friends as he glanced down slightly. There was a reason he had wanted to talk to her, but the tournament talk was over. "What if people find out about your ability? Although I wouldn't run away at all or anything, there's a chance something could happen. I know that a few tasks might be outside, which would be alright. Yet, I'm just curious about that aspect of your personality, but I know you'll deal with it as you always have," he said confidently.
Offering her a smile as he was just looking at the flames broiling within the fireplace even as the first month had passed by like nothing. Now the Goblet of Fire ceremony had started up, or was going to, so they might as well have headed down to get there. It was after all, no point in waiting when you could already go down to see the whole thing, and then come back up to discuss who the champions were. Yet, it seemed to be a surprise to many, he hadn't left the ceremony once, hell he couldn't as he had to figure out who was to be named.
Headmaster Shacklebolt sure liked to put a lot of suspense on everyone, but he then continued smiling as he spoke once more. "Once this Tournament is kicked up and doing, I'll cheer for ya. I doubt the Goblet would choose two people from the same house, but something's off about it this year. Doesn't it seem odd that only one champion gets chosen for each house?" he asked, quite serious as he crossed his arms, almost pondering it. It would have been cool if it had sorted out a few more champions, but that wasn't in the Goblet's best intentions.

She really was more so deal with it when it came. Sure she was used to people not knowing anything about her past or who she was but that was before Hogwarts. At the school she slowly opened up more and now she was in her sixth year, almost seventeen and surrounded by amazing people and friends. She had nothing to really worry about with people like James backing her up.
"I really am not overly concerned anymore if people find out. Before, yes especially when I was still living with my parents but now it is different. And who knows, I could use it to my advantage. You really don't need to worry about my personality then. I have a very good sense of control" She was clam in her explanation. Alaya did not need someone else to worry about things that, yes mattered but didn't need to be addressed too much. She was fairly confident in her abilities after over ten years of mastering it. She knew that there were others at the school who were open about themselves being werewolves but she never met them. So she knew that it might no be too bad.
James had a point that there was something weird going on. She personally would love it if there were more than one perosn chosen from each house. It was make everything more interesting. "That would be sweet. To have more than one champion from each house. No only will you be competing for your house but also agianst members of it as well. It would really test ones skills" It was an unlikely occurrence but if the goblet wanted more than one champion then it would choose another. It would also mean that those chosen were equally matched in some form or another. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • F O R . I . W I L L . F I G H T . James did consider Alaya's words for a moment before he actually responded, choosing his words carefully as he was acting like an over-protective big brother just then. Of course, he already did that for Aubrey, but he didn't want to act like that towards everyone. So instead, he nodded towards her, respecting her decisions, considering she knew more about her abilities than anyone. James knew she was the only werewolf that could control her abilities to the tea, without tearing a piece of out of the other students. It must have taken years to practice the art, but with her mind put to the test, she could do almost anything. Once more, he found himself longingly looking at the ceiling again.
Tilting his head slightly at her answer, he nodded in return as he then spoke to her again, "Yeah, what was I worried for!?! I figured you would always be in control as usual, and I do agree. That would indeed be sweet," was all he said in response as there wasn't much else to say to that accusation. Even as his mind imagined all the many different tasks that could come about, and then glanced outside, wishing he hadn't done that. The quidditch pitch looked to be empty and he was already feeling his veins pumping with the Quidditch blood that wanted him to go outside to enjoy the fresh air. It did look like Rose Weasley was out there.
His cousin, and he was pretty sure he was close with all of his relatives, well, the only exception really was his brother, odd as it seemed. The only Potter that had been sorted into Slytherin, and he was certain there was no other that had gone there. Even so, he supposed they should leave the tower soon to head towards the quidditch pitch or even the Great Hall...except he found no reason to be there just yet. The school year hadn't even gone by too fast just yet, as he then nodded to Alaya.."Hey, you want to head out to the quidditch pitch, I hate being cooped up inside all the time?" he asked calmly soon standing up in his usual posture.
Showing he was rather serious about where they would be going this time, Alaya could join him or stay here, up to her as he left the choice up to her. Either way, he was about to bound down those stairs as he had that look in his eyes showing he did indeed want to be challenged by anyone right now.
