WILLIAM ALEXANDER GREYSON, 62. MINISTRY EMPLOYEE. Carolyn and William met many years ago when she began her training as an auror. He was the person assigned to train her. At first, he underestimated her but then she showed him that she wasn't just some woman. And that's when he started to fall for her. He "courted" her for three years before the two started dating. And four years after they started dating, they got married. Everyone thought their relationship was a strange one - and it was - but they loved each other. Sometimes Carolyn had a funny way of showing it, but she did. The couple got pregnant after they were married for about four years, but they lost the baby. Carolyn tried to apparate when she was around seven months along, but something didn't go right. They were both devastated. Carolyn began to pull away from him in the months following. She gave him divorce paper not long after, and they were divorced a year after they lost the paper. They were still very much in love, and it was obvious, but they never acted on their feelings. Carolyn remarried two years after she and William divorced (only because she didn't want to be alone), and then she had a baby four years later. William was hurt, but he never said anything. He always said the nicest things and wished her well - and he was always there for her whenever she needed it. When her husband, Michael, died a year ago, he was there to let her cry on his shoulder, and he was also the one who encouraged her to teach at Hogwarts; he suggested that she might be able to get away from all the things that reminded her of him and keep a close relationship with her daughter. The two are still very good friends and, whether they know it or not, they are still very much in love. They have a very close relationship. William is the one person Carolyn confides in. He is the one person she allows to call her Carrie. She can tell him almost anything, and he is unbiased and nonjudgmental because he knows her really well. Even though she is very good at hiding her emotions, he is the one person who can read them without wondering if he's right. He knows what she's thinking and how she's feeling, even if she doesn't think he does.
----- PLOT IDEA: So this is what I'm thinking. Obviously, as I said, he was there to make her feel better after her husband committed suicide. She cried on his shoulder and told him how very upset she was that Michael had died. I'm guess they've kept in pretty close contact since then - mostly since she worked at the Ministry until August or September. They've probably been exchanging owls and maybe he's even come to visit her during Hogsmeade weekends. (Obviously, they would meet in secret.) But I am thinking that the two of them are beginning to realize they still have feelings for each other and that they probably never should have divorced in the first place. To sum it up, I'm thinking that maybe they end up "dating" and getting married again, thus making William her final... again.
Carolyn and her second husband, Michael, had a daughter about four years after they got married. She has not mentioned this to anybody, but the birth of her daughter is her happiest memory and the one that she uses to conjure up her patronus. When Elizabeth was little, Carolyn was very motherly towards her and treated her like she was the only thing that mattered, mostly because her parents never gave her that kind of attention. She was spoiled too. There was once a time when the mother and daughter were very close, but they have grown apart since Carolyn's husband/Elizabeth's father died. According to the magical authorities, the case of death is unknown - and Carolyn doesn't know either. But that's aside from the point for right now. Elizabeth was close to her father, much closer than she ever was to her mother. When he died, she was devastated, more so than Carolyn was. But at that point... Carolyn told herself that she couldn't cry anymore and she kept a very strong face, making it look like she was not the least bit concerned even though she was. I mean... she woke up next to her dead husband's body and didn't know how it happened. I'm thinking that Elizabeth doesn't necessarily like William, but she tolerates him because he makes Carolyn feel better or maybe a bit happier. And if someone takes the request for the ex-husband, I'm thinking that Elizabeth can eventually warm up to him and accept him as another sort of fatherly figure. But anyway. Ever since Carolyn started teaching at Hogwarts, their relationship has gotten worse. Carolyn does not acknowledge Elizabeth since she doesn't really want people to know that she has a daughter. Carolyn also pushes her harder than anyone in the DADA class because she's her daughter. Recently, though, Carolyn's been trying to make an effort and trying to at least talk to her to get to know her more, so they have random really late-night meetings in Carolyn's living quarters so they can talk. Sometimes Elizabeth will sneak from her room to just go into her mother's room and sleep for majority of the night, at least until most of the castle starts waking up, in which case she hurries back to the dormitory and gets in her own bed so nobody things something is going on. The two have a strange relationship, that's for sure. (But if you read the plot idea below, they can have an even more dramatic relationship... if you want to go with the idea.)
----- PLOT IDEA: So I had an idea for Miss Elizabeth. I was thinking that maybe, just maybe, her father either (1) told her that he was going to commit suicide before he did it or (2) left her a note explaining that he had committed suicide and why he did it or (3) she just doesn't know anything about the suicide at all. Either way, I think it could really be one of those things that she keeps inside and it bothers her, if she knew about the suicide. BUT... she can eventually tell Carolyn. It can come up in one of their conversations, maybe during an argument between the two when Carolyn is being difficult and Elizabeth is frustrated. In case you're wondering about the suicide thing, I don't really have a reason, but MAYBE he did it because he was tired of Carolyn? Secretly he didn't really want to be with her anymore because she never seemed to show love and affection and instead of admitting that, he took his life? (If you have a better idea, please let me know.)
