why the hell am i in here? don't i know that i'm going to get in trouble if i'm caught in here? i'm going to hell, i'm certain of it...
gregory paced back and forth in the spot that he was standing in, swaying back and forth as he paced. he could hear the crickets - wait, why was he hearing them if he was at a school for wizardry? weren't they creatures in the muggle world? whatever the case, he just knew that he shouldn't have been out there. the forbidden forest was forbidden for a reason, and even though students had been in the forest for years, rarely would they go in without being caught. there were the few times in which students would be brought into the forest by a professor, but that was for a late-night detention... and that wasn't why the hufflepuff was even in the forest to begin with.
to put it into terms that the simplest of people could understand, gregory was just being curious. he had never been near the forbidden forest in the six years he had been attending hogwarts for, because the news that others had given him just wasn't good. 'there are mean, nasty, and just plain horrible creatures out there that can eat you whole,' one person said. mister linely wasn't sure if that piece of advide was something that the student was just giving out, or if they were really in the forest before. it didn't matter, however. advice was advice.
and he was pretty sure he was breaking it.
he pulled the hood of his sweatshirt down over his forehead a little bit more. it had gotten substantially chilly outside; not 'winter coat and gloves' chilly, but more like 'sweatshirt and blue jeans' chilly. it wasn't necessary, as his ears hadn't gotten cold since had stepped foot outside of the castle on this early evening, but he thought that if he pulled the hood over his forehead, nobody would suspect that it was him in the forest.
professors be damned. he was in a restricted area, and there was nothing they could do about it. yet.

[/i] she was frustrated, absolutely pissed off. After screaming she jumped because she knew someone else was near the forbidden forest too. “Hello? Anyone out there? Um…I know,” she asked out loud this time she would’ve screamed but she didn’t even think about it because although he looked scary the person with the hood, she wasn’t scared. tag: gregory notes: hope its ok i join you? :] outfit with black shoes [/size][/ul][/blockquote]

it felt like the forest grew on forever, by what the eye could see. and, on top of that, it got a bit colder as well. maybe it was the foreset itself, and maybe it was just the temperature outside of the forest. whatever the case, gregory kept his hood over his head in an attempt to keep the heat around his thin frame. he'd take that hood off eventually - maybe when he got back inside the castle. or unless he met someone walking near the forest, which was pretty unlikely. though, of course, he knew that this place was common to just hang out around. so maybe there was a chance that he would see someone walking by.
since he started pacing back and forth, he started to clear his mind of all the negativitiy that had been building lately. thankfully, there wasn't much to clear out. he had been missing his family, sure; they sent him another letter a few weeks ago telling them that they would see him in a few weeks. leaving hogwarts for the summer to see his family again would lift off the stress from his shoulders. he was still nose-deep in schoolwork, and life as a sixth year was putting a toll on his mind. the chaos would eventually start to die down within due time, but still... at least this pacing made his mind feel a little bit better.
suddenly, he heard what he thought was a voice. his head shot up from its current position of bent down towards the ground. was someone else in the forest as well? or was that person close to the forest themselves? gregory slowly pulled down the hood from his sweatshirt and started to turn around. as he was doing so, called out to the voice he thought he heard. "someone's out here," he called. "i don't bite. i promise." he didn't mind having company around, which was nice, and he felt as though he could help ease their own stress.

[/i] Ari let out a deep sigh as she casually walked closer to the boy that looked about her age. “Hey…You scared me a bit. Sorry, I don’t mean to bother you. I’ll be out of your hair, I was just out for a run,” she apologized sincerely, not sweetly since she didn’t want other people to think she was a non Slytherin. “Unless, you don’t mind the company?” she offered maybe it would be nice to get to know someone from another house. She promised herself she wouldn’t get involved with someone from another house, it would get sticky and she would hate the drama. Then again sometimes she lived for drama. Her mother would hate her and her friends would blackmail her, oh yes this might be fun. “So, what are you out here for?” Ari asked him as she began to get comfortable with talking to him. Though she didn’t really know him, he looked very familiar and she knew he was a student she just wasn’t sure what house he was in. Or if he was a pure blood. Her mother & step father would be terribly upset if she talked to someone that wasn’t a Slytherin. ---------- tag: greg outfitnotes: short sorry! :/ [/size][/ul][/blockquote]

it wasn't common for someone to just show up in the middle of one of gregory's thought-clearing sessions. the sight of someone popping in and interrupting sounded like a great idea at the time. he wasn't sure if he was going to regret the talk or not afterwards. maybe it would be nice for him to at least try to get to know whomever it was that just showed up randomly. she seemed like a nice person, with the excusal of herself and her sudden appearance, and the sixth year smiled. it's okay, he thought. get to know this girl. it won't hurt you if you try just slightly...
"no problem. i didn't see you coming until i heard your voice," the hufflepuff said, smiling. "i wasn't expecting to see anyone out here at this time of day. it's not a private party i've got here, so you're welcome to stick around if you'd like." he still wasn't sure which house this girl was in. was she ever in the hufflepuff's common room? or was gregory talking to someone who was in a completely different house altogether? it didn't matter, however; it was a body, and anybody was better than talking to nothing but the trees in the forest. they wouldn't respond back to him - inanimate objects tend to do that. at least he could talk to someone who'd understand half of the stuff he was trying to say.
then the girl asked another question - just what was he doing out near the forest, anyway? "oh... i was just out here clearing my thoughts. too much crazy stuff going on inside of there. nothing too crazy." what a pathetic answer that was. gregory knew that he was getting hell for that. "just wanted to think about nothing, really. don't think it's anything special. though to some people, it might be."

[/color] she answered him; she thought he was kind of shy when he didn’t know who she was. “Yea, me neither. It is nice out here by ourselves you know? Kinda of romantic in a way,” she said to clear up the air as she stuffed her hands in the pockets of her sweater. Ari tried not to make things so awkward whenever she met a boy, but she supposed she was a hopeless romantic when it came to that sort of thing in her daily routine. “Penny for your thoughts?” she questioned and hoped he would be ok to answer. “oh... i was just out here clearing my thoughts. too much crazy stuff going on inside of there. nothing too crazy. just wanted to think about nothing, really. don't think it's anything special. though to some people, it might be,” so he had already answered her question before she had a chance to reply a cold breeze went through the forest. She shivered slightly although she was sort of warm from running; she still was a little bit cold. It wasn’t that bad but it was alright. “I agree with you there. So, got any important things to do tomorrow besides class? I was thinking if you don’t mind we could travel and venture in the forest a bit?” she suggested and shivered a little as another howling in the distance she over heard she hated going along in the forest. As long as she had someone with her then things wouldn’t be so scary. ooc; so sorry it's so late! :/ [/size][/ul][/blockquote][/blockquote]

things were looking up. this girl, still nameless, seemed to not mind about being 'invited' to the 'party' that was in the forest. one was the loneliest number, and two was a company. it was always nice to have company, especially in the forest, a place where gregory knew was forbidden. it didn't explain why this girl and him were even near the thing to begin with. still, it was nice to have someone there... in a romantic way? was she starting to flirt with him?
just chill out, gregory told himself. i don't think you want to get your hopes up. it's nice to have this girl near you, but be careful. looks can be slightly deceving... so did the sixth year take his own advice? he should have. but he proceeded to continue on, without heeding to his own words.
"now that you mention it, the forest does look romantic," he said, trying to keep as straight of a face as possible; the smile he had on his face, however, was not a sign of not keeping a straight face, but a sign of caring. "it's like a candlelight dinner - the darkness provides an atmosphere that you can only find when the lights are off and the candle's the only thing providing light. sort of."
sure, make it sound like something it's not. go right ahead, you dumbarse.
when the girl asked him if he had other plans for the day tomorrow, gregory shot up. "oh, no. i don't think so. i think my schedule's freed up." he smiled, looking down at the ground this time, for no apparent reason. "i know we could be caught by a professor, but hell... take chances. make mistakes." it sounded like the perfect opportunity to get to know the girl a little more. as there was a howling echo deeper into the forest, the hufflepuff boy thought it would be a great idea if they actually started the 'get to know you' experience. he looked up.
"i'm sorry, i don't think i caught your name yet. i'm gregory. sixth year."
[it's fine. i understand.]

[/i] he was actually agreeing with her? Wow. No boy had ever agreed with her, not anyone from Slytherin anyway. He must’ve have been from another house other then hers. Though, what if he was a Slytherin they were smooth talkers, before she had a chance to react she smiled a little and nodded. “See I told you it was……” stepping closer as she wanted to get a better look at his face. He was sweet looking and nice. “oh, no. i don't think so. i think my schedule's freed up..i know we could be caught by a professor, but hell... take chances. make mistakes,” smirking like crazy she shivered yet again with the howls, they were pretty far though and not too close for them to hurt them. “I…er well that’s great. We’ll have a blast, come on,” she nudged her head to the other side and extended her hand out. “I’m sorry, i don't think i caught your name yet. i'm gregory. sixth year,” she turned her head to glance down at the ground before she answered, he only said he was a sixth year…should she give her house too? Or save it for later? Ari was contemplating it. “You can call me Ari, and I'm in Seventh year.....” she covered and hoped that would be a good enough name so she wouldn’t have to reveal her true name, unless he probably figured it out her father was Goyle, or maybe he wouldn’t even guess. She also wondered what he would think if she was a year older then he was. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. [/size][/ul][/blockquote][/blockquote]

as the two of them proceeded to start walking through the forest, gregory started to feel comfortable about the whole situation. it might have felt a little awkward at first, but he seemed to let that awkwardness (if that's even a word) go by the wayside, and he started to feel more open about being in the forest. somehow, he didn't mind being out in the forest with no staff supervision. this was almost private time he was sharing with the girl next to him, and he didn't mind it one bit.
but when the girl started to come closer to him, something didn't feel right. the hufflepuff didn't know just what it was, but he seemed to know that there was something about this whole situation that sort of... he didn't know. surprised him, maybe? did she find him attractive? nice job, you dumbarse. you're definitely in hot water right now. you might want to say something to her. maybe. but gregory didn't say anything. he just looked at her, with widened brown eyes and one of his hands out to take hers as well. that was all he could do then and there. he didn't know just why he was doing what he did. maybe he was in a trance, one in which he couldn't get out of unless he did something stupid...
"well, ari..." gregory started to say, before he turned his head and looked down at the ground. seventh year? oh, you're good. maybe i shouldn't even call you a dumbarse now. you've seemed to hit the jackpot here. he looked back up at ari. "nice to meet you, too. seventh year, huh? how do you feel about leaving here at the end of the year? a little nervous?" if he was going to make the next move, that was definitely a good start.
off you go, deeper into the forest, then.
