The Aftermath - Aubrey

Scorpius was not looking forward to this, most certainly not. It seemed like the head students thought it was funny pairing him with Aubrey...or maybe they just didnt care and thought that had sorted things out by now. Ha well how wrong were they. Scorpius had not seen or spoken to Aubrey since the day they had broken up and honestly he preferred it that way. He didnt have to get the constant bickering, he didnt have to explain himself why he took Rose to the ball and he certainly didnt have to worry about her anymore.

But fate liked screwing with him and so here he was waiting at the bottom of the stairs in the enterance way, waiting for his blonde gryffindor ex. Peppy and energetic Aubrey, he wondered how she felt finding out that they had prefect duty together, or had she hoped that he would try and give the shift to someone else. He had thought about it and had been so very tempted, but perhaps Aubrey had done the same, said she was sick or something.

The slytherin crossed his arms over his chest and tapped his fingers on his arm. What was taking her so long he thought as he stole glanced up the stairs every now and then. Waiting around was painful and if she didnt appear within the next five minutes, well he'd go to the patrolling on his own.

His mind couldnt help but wander back to the ball. Aubrey had been with Frank and it annoyed the hell out of him. What was she doing with Frank looking as if they were more than friends, as if something had been happening between them for ages? He had only asked Rose to try and get under Aubrey's skin, of course by the end of the night he was happy Rose had said yes to him for it wasnt about Aubrey but about Rose. Apart from seeing Frank with Aubrey, it had been one of the best nights. Snapping back to reality, Scorpius once more glanced up at the stairs, wondering what was taking so long.

Aubrey had been pacing back and forth in the Gryffindor Common room as she decided whether or not she should just call herself sick for the patrol. She had a skiving snack box filled with Fainting Fancies, Fever Fudge, Nosebleed Nougat, and Puking Pastilles up in her trunk, if she truly wished to fake that she was sick, but she knew that nothing good would come out of this if she were to just keep on avoiding it. The young blond sighed softly, she never wanted this awkwardness between them… She knew she had hurt Scorp when she broke up with him and she hadn’t meant to start dating Frank… Just some… interesting events had seemed to unfold and now that was where she was. Besides, didn’t he have Rose? At least she hadn’t gone after Albus! Well… she knew that she shouldn’t see it like that… she was just still rather annoyed by the fact that her best friend didn’t tell her that Scorp was taking her to the ball… that was the main thing with this situation.

She turned to look at the portrait of the fat lady, knowing that she should better start heading out. Dragging her feet along, the young blond crawled out of the portrait and headed on down to the great hall where Scorpius was supposed to wait for her. And there he was, of course he looked rather impatient waiting for her down at the bottom of the stairs. Then again, she did pretty much make him wait. Sighing softly the young blond descended the stairs and stood next to Scorp without saying a word, mainly because her body wouldn’t let her as she didn’t even know what to say.

He caught sight of her coming down the stairs. If this was happening a couple of months ago, he'd have gotten excited to see her, he would have still be able to call her his girlfriend. But things changed and now here he was, tapping his finger impatiently as she took her time walking down the stairs. A little emotion stirred within him but he quickly shot that down, they were no longer together so he shouldnt feel anything for her nor should he care about her right? She had been the one to end it, she had been the one that went to the ball with Frank as if they were more than friends...perhaps they were and that angered him greatly. No one moved onto someone as quick as she did after breaking up with someone else unless they had been sneaking around behind his back...cheating on him. There were many things Scorpius was, but he certainly wasnt the type to cheat on anyone and yet he hated it when others done it.

Finally she was next to him, standing in silence. Turning his head away, he avoiding looking at her. What was the point anyways, she was nothing to him...nothing. Well thats what he kept telling himself. Oh he would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Rose and Aubrey confronted one another after the ball, he would have loved to hear the hurt in Aubrey's voice, if there was any at all, just to know how unhappy she had been about it, how...hurt she was. Pushing off from the railing of the stairs, Scorp begun walking, not particularly caring if Aubrey followed or not.

This was going to be a very long, awkward night he realised, but he didnt expect any less. Did she not know that he could make her life hell here, all he had to do was say the word and he'd have people annoying her, picking on her, teasing and insulting her. A smirk appeared on his face. If she was not a friend of the Potters, not a friend of Albus, he would have already done so, he would enjoy watching her squirm. Albus and Rose were her only saving grace. Walking along the corridor he wondered why she had yet to start talking, was she waiting for him to speak first. Well she'd be waiting a long time. She had been the one to cause the chain of events to happen, she should be the first one to speak, whether or not he would listen to her was another matter.

Awkward silence… that was the sound between the slytherin and the gryffindor at that moment. It seemed that neither of them wanted to say anything first as if they expected the other to go first. Well… in Aubrey’s case, that wasn’t really true. She just didn’t know what to say. What was there to say? Sorry I broke up with you and shortly after I realized that someone had a crush on me for quite a while and I didn’t expect things to go the way they did? Oh like he should get mad, at least she didn’t go out and hooked up with Albus behind his back! And it wasn’t like she was keeping her relationship with Frank a secret; he just didn’t even want to talk to her.

The young blond sighed; she knew she shouldn’t be thinking like that. She wasn’t one to think of those things in the first place, or to stay mad at someone she cared about. And she still cared about Scorp even if he didn’t seem to care about her anymore. By the time she had turned to really look at Scorp he had looked away, it seemed that he felt this to be more of a childish game… well should’ve known that he would act this way, it was how he always acted when something upset him. “So you and Rose huh?” she asked, as if a friend would ask a friend. At least she hoped that they could still be friends in the end. Besides… if Rose really did like Scorp, she hoped that he was dating Rose because he liked her, not to get back at her.

He didnt look at her, not even a sideways glance. She had hurt him and that was something that scorp rarely forgave someone for. He didnt care if she was friends with Al's family, he didnt care if she tried using Al and Rose to get him to forgive her, it was not that simple. She was treading on thin ice at the moment and if she ever made Rose or Al or any of the Potter/Wealsey family upset, Scorp would not hesitant to defend them, even against Aubrey.

He gulped, just the thought of her name brought back that day in the snow, her standing there trying to tell him it was over and yet he had thought she was joking at the time. No one broke up within a few weeks to the Yule ball. He had been lucky enough to get Rose to go within instead. He had planned to drive the two best friends apart but at the end of that night he had completely different intentions, having Rose avoid Aubrey was just a bonus.

“So you and Rose huh?” This time he did look at her, setting his sharp glare onto the woman that once was his girlfriend. He had been told that she was no good for him by many people, guess he should have listened to them.
"What about us?" he asked, his tone just as sharp as his glare. He let his eyes linger on her for a moment longer before once more looking down the corridor, acting as if she didnt exist to him.

Where did she get off asking that anyways, he could have simply turned around and asked about her and Frank, ask her how long that they had been going on behind his back, accuse her of cheating, being low etc. Not once did he cheat on her and yet it seemed as if the thing she had with that damn gryffindor had been going on for longer than they had broken up. Something just did not sit right with him and he was angry at her and at Frank. Perhaps James had put Frank up to it? Whether or not he had, Scorp was always angry at James.

“What about us?” Aubrey definitely didn’t like his tone, but it was to be expected after all, wasn’t it? There had to be a way to turn things around… He couldn’t be mad at her for dating Frank could he? After all… he started dating Rose soon after as well so it wasn’t like she had moved on and he hadn’t… Ah Hogwarts Drama….what could you do about that. But… what if he had asked Rose out to get back at her? She sure hoped that wasn’t true… Rose seemed to really like Scorp and if Aubrey were to find out that he was just dating Rose to get back at her, she would never let him live it down.

“Well Rose seems pretty happy, I hope that you are as well. After all, I wouldn’t want anything to happen to my best friend,” the young blond nodded lightly. Hopefully he would get the hint that if he were to hurt Rose he’d have a peppy Gryffindor after him. Even if she did care about him, Rose was her best friend after all and she definitely didn’t want anyone to hurt her. She glanced at him for just a moment before looking back down the corridor… who knew if this tear in their relationship would ever get fixed…
