Jessamine ran her fingers through her auburn hair as she surveyed herself briefly in the mirror, only able to now all the other frilly little girls had gone off to find their dates. maybe that was a little harsh but seriously, if they'd woken you up by giggling hysterically over silly things, gushing about presents from their boyfriends and scattering make-up and clothes and other crap all over the dorm room you'd have had enough of them and this whole day too wouldn't you! she couldn't say she was jealous of the girls with their dates, she was hardly a fan of guys, after the way her brother had acted to her over the years it was hardly surprising.
but what did surprise her was her friendship with not only lorcan, her only ex boyfriend, but of hugo. she hadn't thought she would become friend's with any guys, not when she found it so difficult to trust them. but after she'd gotten close to lorcan and found that there was decent guy's out there, she'd met hugo and equally been surprised that she trusted him. not enough to tell him much of her family life. he knew she was muggleborn and had only one sibling - a brother - but she clammed up if they started onto topics relating to family and such. she just didn't want people to know, after all she hid the scars well enough for a reason.
she shook her head slightly at herself and grabbed her favoured jacket. it was a little cold out there still with it being february but not too freezing luckily, and she headed out of the dorm room. she was actually looking forward to this day for once, even caught herself smiling slightly as she headed down into the common room, crossing toward the door. as neither of them were currently in any relationship, her and hugo had made a pact to spend the day together, and the lack of pressure of having to otherwise spend the day alone lessened. it wasn't that she wanted a boyfriend or anything, but with overly-lovey couples throwing themselves in your face, along with way too much pink and heart shaped things and all that sort of stuff made you feel a little queasy and a little depressed.
she headed down at her own pace to the entrance hall where she said she'd meet hugo. she was on time so there was no need to rush and besides, it wasn't like they had reservations at a silly frilly coffee shop that would most likely look like pink confetti manufacturing factory threw up all over it. she hadn't dressed up like all the other girls, nope she stuck to a favoured pair of skinny jeans and a simple top, with her favoured hoodie over the top. she wasn't one to dress up that much, sure she had a few dressy things and sometimes she liked to make her own fashion, but she was always casual. she waited by the doors, glancing about idly and waiting for hugo to turn up.

pulling on his black jacket hugo grabbed his sneakers and pulled them on. running his hand through his light hair he hurried out of the dorm room so he wouldn't be late. he was meeting jez, for their valentines not date, or would you call it a date? he was confused on that part. but they were going to laugh at all the couples who were so openly affectionate. hugo didn't get that, it was just, another day to him. and in the relationships he'd dabbled in none had lasted to the fourteenth of febuary, he hadn't liked the girls enough, they hadn't liked him, they'd annoyed him to high heaven with the closeness, he hated it, being smothered. it was enough to send him over the edge.
he hurried out of the dorm room, then through the common room, which was full of pink hearts and red hearts and balloons and everything to do with valentines day that was awful. shaking his head he moved through the castle, heading toward the spot where he'd be meeting with jez. he was still wary in halls, his eyes glancing around every now and then, though it wasn't as bad as it ad been, he was relaxing more and more, not thinking that around every corner was someone wanting to jump him. he still couldn't remember the day, it was still pissing him off, but the more he thought about it the further away if got so he'd stopped trying to think about it and just, ignore it. but that was easier said that done.
his sneakers echoed in the entrance hall as he pushed his way outside and he saw jez. he grinned slightly as he ran his hand through his hair and made his way over to her, he did note her clothing, and he liked it. it want over the top like he knew some single girls did on valentines to try and get noticed. "so ready to go?" he asked her as he grinned, slipping his hands into the black pockets of his jacket and he looked around. the path to hogsmeade wasn't long, and surprisingly the teachers trusted the students to walk on their own, thought hugo knew they probably had some charms on the road so they could tell if people were straying off it. he looked at her, and started to move down the steps, his head falling back slightly as he looked at the sky.

jez watched as couple after couple swan on past her and she pulled a face slightly. she just wasn't one for all that lovey dovey stuff, never had been. it wasn't like she was all 'boys are ick' because that wasn't true, and it wasn't as though she hadn't had a crush or two, okay she'd only really had one crush and that had been lorcan, but still, distrusting guys meant you didn't tend to develop feelings for them. maybe that was why she didn't like all the squishy romantic dribble, lack of trust? sure if a guy she liked gave her a rose, she'd find that cute, but that was pretty much the line. she was sure when she got older, maybe found someone to settle with then sure, she probably would want to be romanced every now and then but right here, right now, valentine's day made her feel distinctly unwell.
just watching the way couples were practically surgically attached to one another at all times throughout the day made her want to barf. she rolled her eyes and moved out the way slightly, not wanting her cynical down-with-val's-day bubble to get popped by too much pink that all the girl's had gone with. why couldn't they at the least be more original? go with the jeans and hoodie look like jez? nothing wrong with it was there? she frowned as one of the many hogwart's ghosts flew overhead and decided to drop a ton of pink glitter on her. "hey!" she called out in indignation, glaring as the think floated away cackling madly. jessamine didn't understand what was so funny about it as she angrily tried to dust herself off, grumbling under her breath.
"so ready to go?" she jumped a mile as she suddenly heard hugo right beside her and took a couple of quick steps back before recognising him and relaxing. she sighed at herself and nodded, grimacing slightly rather than smiling back. "yeah and fast, all this stuff is far to disgusting." she said with a slight smile this time, and jammed her hands in her pockets before going to head out into the crisp february air. it wasn't too cold, for which she was glad, but enough to make her draw her arms closer to herself slightly at the bite of the cold. it was then she noticed the pink lights lining the way and she groaned. "really? did they feel the need to decorate everywhere?" she complained and shook her head slightly. she was going to get followed by pink and hearts and glittery things all day wasn't she? oh fun. well, at least she had hugo to complain about it with, that was something.
