she was kind of scared of what he’d say. it wasn’t like he’d ever expressively forbidden her to talk to adrian or zmeyette, but his opinion of their father had made it clear enough that he didn’t want her getting mixed up in what that side of the family believed, which extended to not getting mixed up with them. but when she’d been speaking to adri a few weeks before, he’d been kind. nice. like a brother should be. and he’d made it clear that fenrir wasn’t the monster seyton made him out to be, at least not to him… the whole thing just set to confuse echo further. it wasn’t that she didn’t believe seyton, or thought he was lying to her, but it wasn’t that she didn’t believe adri, or thought that he was lying to her, either. she just didn’t know what to believe… and so she’d kind of been avoiding seyton. he was a leglimens, and even though she knew he didn’t use his ability randomly, he had the potential to do so and see inside her mind, and she kind of dreaded whatever he might say afterwards.
thinking of such things was doing nothing to help echo fall asleep. not that she really expected to go back to her sweet dreams tonight, anyways… for every other night in the past few sleepless evenings, she'd waited out the sun in her bed, tossing and turning as she tried and failed to get some rest. today she wasn't in the mood for such a tedious waiting game. she was already fully dressed in dark blue jeans and a black shirt, her sneakers just calling her name from where they sat under her bed… ah, screw it. moving quietly so as not to disturb any of her classmates who might rat her out to professor longbottom first thing in the morning, she grabbed her shoes and padded in sock feet down the stairs to the deserted commons room. of course it was deserted, it was about three am in the morning, for pete’s sake. she put on her footwear right before sneaking through the portrait of the, thankfully, sleeping fat lady and making her way down through the halls and secret passages to end up outside of the school. the route was so familiar to her by now that she didn’t really need to think about it or pay attention to where she was going; she was free to let her mind wander as long as she was alert enough to avoid any teachers or patrols who might still happen to be awake at this hour.
the energy of the fresh night air hit her all at once as soon as she stepped out of the walls of the castle. looking behind her the castle was a bit of an eerie sight. the torches and lights that usually flickered in the windows in the earlier hours of the evening had mostly been extinguished, leaving only a few of the hundreds of windows in the school illuminated. all the castle was was a dark outline of itself towering against the clear, starry sky. it was kind of cool, actually. echo debated going back to the quidditch pitch, as she'd done that day when she'd spoken to adrian, but figured that a change of scenery may be in order. she loved to look up at the stars to trace the shapes of her favorite constellations, but even without a perfect view of the sky the forest was one of her favorite places to visit. so that was where she headed out, breaking into a run just because she could and easily passing the ground to the forbidden forest before she slowed, just inside its trees, so that she wouldn't trip over a fallen branch or something pathetic like that. not that that was likely... her night vision was good. not as good as a full werewolves', but still pretty good.
the fourth year felt comfortable in the forest. of course she knew it was dangerous, but she'd been exploring its edges and deeper for years now, always straying in a bit further from the castle, losing herself a little bit more in the trees and nature that she found so comforting... that was what she did today, after making sure that her wand was safely tucked in the pocket of the leather jacket she'd grabbed before leaving her dorm. what reason should she have to be afraid, as long as she stayed away from the giant spiders? sure, there were dangerous animals in the forest, but you shouldn't underestimate even a little greyback. 1392 words with code,.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul The Words: 605 The Tagged: echo greyback The Notes sorry i couldnt match your word count The air was crisp; the snow would soon be upon the land. Not that Fenrir particularly cared when it snowed. It was true that he felt the cold a little now he was older, but it was still nowhere near the coldness that other people felt. The wolf within had its many advantages and little to none disadvantages. How could no one like the idea of being able to smell scents that a normal nose couldn’t, who wouldn’t want to run with a speed that was not capable in a human, most of all who wouldn’t want the power and strength that came from the wolf. Those that had prejudice against werewolves were afraid. Yes, they were afraid that they'd enjoy the power, they were afraid that they'd love every aspect of the wolf, in both human and wolf form. They were scared of the unknown. Didn’t they know that their fear just added to a werewolf's strength. Pathetic really, he thought as he passed a couple in Hogsmeade who looked as if they were trying to shy away and avoid him.
Turning to them, he snarled, watching them jump in shock before hurrying again. Oh what fun it was to scare people with just a simple growl. The power it gave him was out of the world. He had to hurry though, he couldn’t bathe in the small glory for too long, not if he wanted to come across one of his children, well Adrian really. He hadn’t seen his son yet and hoped that he would be out in the Forbidden forest. Of course it might have been better if he had sent an owl ahead of time, but where was the spontaneousness of that. Whatever Fenrir done was often at random times, better to catch unsuspecting people off guard.
The walk to the school's gates wasn’t a very eventful one, in fact he only saw a couple of people every now and then doing Merlin knows what in the shadows. Ok sure he could see what they were doing but he chose not to look, he didn’t need the distractions. Upon the sight of the gate, he veered left and headed a little away before coming across the small entrance in the forest that he had found when he had attended the school. It wasn’t fixed, perhaps people didn’t know of it. It was after all hard to find. Slipping into the tree line, he headed for the heart of the forest where the more dangerous creatures lurked. It was his usual path and the quickest one to get to the other side of the forest near the school. His eyes caught the movement of every little thing and his nose caught the scent of every creature lurking near him. A smirk crossed his face as he drew closer to the tree line. A new scent caught his attention. It was familiar and yet at the same time it wasn’t. It wasn’t Adrian, that was for sure, but it was definitely kin. He took a deep breath. It was one of his. He had smelt that scent only once before, at one of the births of his children. He followed it and upon the sight of her, he knew who she was, but did she know who he was. He doubted her grandparents were eager to talk about him, especially since they 'stole' his little girl away from him and her mother. "It’s too good a night to be locked up in the castle," he spoke, hoping that his tone was at least friendly, he didn’t want to scare her off now. |

those feelings, however, could only be applied to hogwarts students. it wasn’t like she ran across teachers or teacher-aged people regularly at night. actually, other than seyton, she never had before. the teachers were generally off patrolling the halls of hogwarts, keeping an eye out for those students who weren’t as sneaky or lucky as echo was and could be caught out past curfew, and any other adult who wasn’t employed at hogwarts had no reason to be around the school, right? it was all good and well to say that she would gladly chase off any student who might try to bug her this evening (even the seventh years; the night was echo’s territory, in her mind, and she didn’t have to take any trouble from them while she was in it no matter their ages), but it was a little bit different when the person invading her night was god knew how much older than her, and a whole lot larger than the tiny fourth year.
she noticed his scent before she actually noticed him. her senses had had that wolfy increase for a while now, enough that she could distinguish the different scents around her, and could tell when something did not belong. his certainly didn’t. it wasn’t something she’d ever smelt around the forest before, and obviously that of a wizard, and yet… there was something familiar about it. too focused on actually finding the source of the scent, echo didn’t give the familiarity much thought. everyone had similar scents about him or her somehow, whether it was because of the food they’d recently eaten or the shampoo they used in their hair, so the familiarity didn’t mean much to her. a few seconds after noticing the scent she could hear him, and a second later the mysterious man was there, in front of her.
he was certainly no hogwarts teacher. he was much older than the majority of professors at the school, and she was sure he would have stuck out to her even if he taught some class she had little or no interest in. there was something very… distinguished about him. no, maybe distinguished wasn’t the right word… but just by the way he held himself there was something about him that spoke of power and experience, which pushed the question of what in the world he was doing lurking in the forbidden forest at this hour of night? echo’s hand quietly moved to her pocket, making sure that her wand was safely tucked away there and not dropped somewhere in the trees metres back towards the school where she would be unable to find or use it. he seemed friendly enough, but you never knew.
"it’s too good a night to be locked up in the castle," echo nodded slowly, "if i can't sleep, i might as well be outside," she agreed with a small polite smile, but her tone was still very wary. come on, who could really blame her? an older man approaching a younger girl in the middle of a creepy dark forest? the scenario screamed of bad muggle horror films. she glanced over her shoulder towards the castle, though she couldn't see it through the trees, wondering if she should be wishing that she'd taken some sleeping potions from sey so that she'd be fast asleep in her bed at this moment instead. but, of course, her mind was only going to the negatives because in today's society everyone seemed to be pessimistic. expect the worst so that everything else seems amazing, right? drama novels and horror films were getting to her, weren't they? who was she to say that he didn't have a perfectly valid reason for being out in the woods? maybe he was just on his way to the castle and for some reason had been forced to travel through the forest. "are you here to see someone?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul The Words: 391 The Tagged: echo greyback The Notes sorry its short Fenrir's eyes noticed her hand movement, inching towards her pocket. She was after her wand, perhaps she did know all about him after all, well perhaps the whole notorious wolf, not the daddy part. He was about to tell her it was pointless drawing out her wand, he had no intention to fight her when she spoke instead. His earlier words weren’t a question, but she had answered as if it were. Her reply disturbed him though. What was the reason why his little girl couldn’t sleep, what kept her up at night. He doubted it was her dorm mates and their snoring, an easy silencing charm could fix that so he concluded that something in her mind was preventing her from sleeping, but what. This was one of the times he wished he could read others minds, delve into the brain and pick out everything from their weaknesses to what was troubling them. At least she had the werewolf instinct, to be outside in the forest. Being outdoors was like home, being surrounded by different plants, trees and shrubs; all the different scents that filled the air, the ability to run like the wind, there was nothing better than that.
She spoke again, this time asking him the question on if he were here to see someone. Well yes there was, but he could see them anytime. He wondered whether or not his children knew of this girl, maybe she was friends she some of them. She was around Adrian's age, or even Jasper's. Not that he wished her to actually associate with Jasper, but he hoped Adrian had gotten to her first. Maybe the boy was waiting for the right moment to tell him, maybe he was waiting for the girl to trust him more. "Actually yes I am, I don’t suppose you know where Adrian Greyback is now?" he asked. He had already decided that he could visit Adrian later, he was fishing for information out of her. Maybe she was smart and put two and two together. He glanced at her once more, he had no idea what house she was in, Merlin he hoped it wasn’t Gryffindor, there were already too many Greyback Gryffindors and they both had turned from him. Gryffindor was a cursed house. If only she had her school robe on, he'd know. |

'stranger danger!' flashed through her mind too often when she looked at this guy... but then, there was also something else kind of familiar about him, almost like she'd seen him before... but that was ridiculous. if she had a reason to know him, she was sure she wouldn't forget him quickly. there was something very distinctive about his appearance... the girl couldn't put her finger on it, but it was there, and something told her that he was a hard man to forget once you actually got to know him.
it would be rude to run off on him, though, creating some false excuse for her disappearance... echo did know that it was what she should do... or, at least, it was what she should want to do, but she had to say that while societies standards of meeting a creepy older man in a forest in the middle of the night might advise a girl her age to run in terror, she found herself just... uneasy. not frightened as she felt she probably should be. she was just curious, and yes, cautious, but more curious than she was worried now that the initial shock of meeting someone randomly in the woods was beginning to fade away. what law stated that any guy who hung out in the woods had to be a total creepball predator?
"Actually yes I am, I don’t suppose you know where Adrian Greyback is now?" that caught echo's attention more, seeing as the name that was presented was one of someone she knew rather well. so this guy obviously knew her little brother (it was weird for her to think of him as her little brother, seeing as only a few months separated the two of them in age) and if he knew her little brother, he couldn't be a terrible person, could he? well, okay, she could think of one nurse off of the top of her head that would likely disagree, but seyton seemed to be under the impression most of the time that anyone who associated with anyone he didn't approve of was automatically evil or something of the sort.
"um..." out of habit, though the castle and quidditch pitch were far out of her view blocked by trees, echo looked over her shoulder in the general direction of the field and the stands that surrounded it. "i think he can often be found by the quidditch pitch at night, i mean, that's where i saw him last time... but i can't really speak for him," she shrugged. she definitely couldn't claim to be an expert in all things adri... he was her brother, yeah, but she was still just getting to know the guy. 1180 words with code,.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul The Words: 486 The Tagged: echo greyback The Notes sorry if its blah Wasn’t she at least a tad interested why a somewhat stranger wanted her brother, did it never occur to her that perhaps that he was after Adrian because he was family, or was at the very least close to the Slytherin boy. Why was it that the Gryffindors were slow at putting two and two together, they were just as bad as those damn Hufflepuffs, although he was thankful only one child of his was in that house, yet having three in Gryffindor was just as unacceptable. Why couldn’t they be in Slytherin or Ravenclaw, they would have been a lot easier to deal with, well besides Seyton. He sighed glancing over in the direction of the quidditch pitch. What would Adrian be doing there when there was a whole forest to roam around in? Maybe he wanted a change of scenery for once, not that he blamed the kid.
Glancing back at his daughter, he didn’t know whether to yell at her or be proud of her. He wanted to yell for not knowing who he was on sight, but he was also wanted to be proud of her with the way she was acting, nothing like he expected from a female Gryffindor. She seemed a little cold, yet at the same time she had warmth to her. Maybe it was just because she was alone in the forest with a 'stranger', perhaps his presence put her on edge a little. But she need not worry, if he was going to hurt her, he would have done that a while ago. No he wanted his daughter to realise that she did have a family, that he never abandoned her, that it was her grandparents fault for keeping his existence from her. If she knew about him, if she knew that he lived close by, would she have sought him out? So many years lost wondering when his daughter was going to realise that she had a family, realised that what was and would happen to her was all part of her heritage. He was at fault, he should have sought her out long ago, but her grandparents seemed too protective over her. Did they know that he was still around, like a persistent pest, Fenrir would not go away for anyone. Surely by now her grandparents had to realise that their granddaughter should be with those that were like her, that could help her, especially on the nights of the full moon.
"I suppose Adrian will come when he smells my scent in the air," he shrugged, leaning up against a tree, "He'll be a great werewolf one day." He spoke his thoughts out loud. Adrian would indeed be a good werewolf, one that would follow in his footsteps, he was sure of that. "What of you?" he asked as if he were an old friend of hers, "are you coping with your newfound abilities?" |

maybe she should have been questioning what he wanted with adri. after all, though the two were very, very close in age the slytherin boy was echo’s little brother. shouldn’t she have some sort of protective edge towards the boy that set warning bells off in her head, but it didn’t. adrian was probably more set to protect himself and look after himself than echo. he didn’t lead the sheltered sort of lifestyle she had led for so long, so he was more experienced with shady characters… or maybe he wouldn’t even consider this guy shady. her upbringing probably made her view different people differently than his did. but this guy wouldn’t be looking for adrian if he didn’t know him, and it wasn’t echo’s place to question the relationships with other people that her little brother held.
"i suppose adrian will come when he smells my scent in the air," it was weird for someone to speak to casually about another being’s abilities… normally people weren’t so accepting of the differences of werewolves. they liked to either pretend they did not exist, or just avoid the person inflicted with lycanthropy altogether. she cocked her head slightly to the side, watching the older man as he leaned against a tree, apparently completely comfortable in the presence of a small child in the middle of a darkened forest. "he'll be a great werewolf one day." and again with the plainly obvious speak of lycanthropy… who the hell was this man? "what of you? are you coping with your newfound abilities?" wait, woah, how the hell did he know what she was? "how do you know-" she hadn’t made any mention of it… couldn’t she just be another random student out for a nighttime stroll? she’d never mentioned her last name, either, so he couldn’t know from her last name… which kinda basically left one option. somehow he knew her… like some sort of creepy stalk? ‘cept she didn’t get that vibe off of him at all. was his some sort of a greyback nut to know who she was and who adri-
okay, so echo was admittedly not the brightest student in the world. there was a reason that she was not in ravenclaw... she was observant, but not the best on connecting things together, at least not when what she was supposed to be connecting together was something that she'd never even considered a possibility before. seriously, what were the odds on this happening tonight? "...you're fenrir."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul The Words: 456 The Tagged: echo The Notes n/a She was being quiet, a little too quiet for his liking. He expected her to bombard him with a thousand questions or demand that he leave the castle grounds before she alerted a professor. Of course that would mean she'd be in trouble, have points docked from her house or get detention or both. Now that would definitely not be the smartest move. Maybe she was trying to think of ways of catching him off guard so that she could throw a spell or two his way, get rid of him on her own. No doubt anyone else would have tried doing so, and would have failed miserably. Then again any other person would have been able to tell exactly who he was, or at least know of him by reputation, not only from the wizarding wars, but from books that had sections written about him. He hadn't read all of them, but he found it amusing what they had written, the authors just couldnt seem to portray just exactly how dangerous he was, it was like they tried to down play him. Pathetic really he thought. If he had the luxury of being able to roam the world and seek out these authors, he'd she just exactly how notorious he was.
This was getting frustrating and irritating. Did she seriously not know of him, was she banned from ever learning about him, had his other children tried informing her about him and everything that went on in their dysfunctional family. Maybe she just didnt want a part of it after hearing everything. Obviously she knew of Adrian, that was a good start, but who else did she know. Seyton and Jasper probably, damn goodie toe shoes, he thought.
"how do you know-" He chuckled, well at least she hadnt lost her ability to speak. How did he know, if only she knew. Instead he lifted his hand and tapping his nose, indicating that he could smell the wolf on and in her, just waiting to be released.
"...you're Fenrir." Finally, he thought, it took her long enough. At least she knew of him, or so it seemed. "And my daughter finally acknowledges me," he replied, confirming that yes he was Fenrir, the most notorious werewolf to live and that he was indeed her father. He was curious though, want was it like for his children to have him as a father, knowing that if anyone upset them enough that he would be able to silence whoever upset them forever without a care for the authority of the ministry. "I'm disappointed that you didnt recognise me sooner. Are those... grandparents," he said the word with disgust, "of yours still keeping you from knowing about me." |

seyton was definitely not a fan of their old man. she'd lost track of the number of times he tried to warn her against him before she'd put her foot down and essentially told him to shut up, though there had been a choice swear mixed in. what would he say if he knew that his little sister was now standing alone in the forest with the man he claimed to despise more than anyone on the planet? ...no matter, it didn't concern her. he had his opinions, and she was free to make her own. it was one of the joys of being human and not some mindless slave of a creature.
"and my daughter finally acknowledges me," should she be scared? if she were to believe seyton she certainly should be... but instead the gryffindor found herself even more relaxed, eager even to talk to him more. there was no harm in getting to know her father. it wasn't like he had abandoned her specifically... from the sounds of it he was distant in most of his children's lives, and really, that was find with echo. distant was perfectly okay, as long as he didn't just forget. "you could have just introduced yourself earlier," she stated simply, not intending on challenging him, but... it was true. instead he'd for some reason decided to play a little game, though he'd known full well who she was.
"I'm disappointed that you didnt recognise me sooner. Are those... grandparents, of yours still keeping you from knowing about me." the fourth year flipped some of her auburn hair over her shoulder, finding herself unsettled at the tone he took when speaking of her grandparents. it was clear that there was no 'son-in-law' love there. then again, he wasn't their son in law anyways... she was a bastard child. illegitimate. she always knew that. it was probably just another reason why her grandparents disliked him so much. more scandal to the sacred family name. "not my fault all of the textbooks display you as a scarred forty-some year old," |
[/color] she muttered softly, a bit of the typical teenage attitude showing through as her confidence in his presence grew. of course she'd gone to research the man... but all of the textbooks that made mention of him displayed pictures of him before the war. she'd even gone to seyton once, asking what fenrir looked like, but the nurse's office was lined with pictures of his mother and not a single of their shared parent, so he had obviously been a dead end. "it's impossible to go to hogwarts and not know what the greyback name means... i've known about you since my first day at the school, whether they like it or not." and they certainly hadn't liked it... echo still cringed when she remembered how furious her grandfather had been, how violent and cold he'd been, basically telling her to throw away her last name and deny who she was just because he said so. "seyton's told me all about... us."[/color] she told her father, testing the waters a bit. seyton had always been her number one informant of the greyback's... and though he annoyed her greatly with his clear prejudice against fenrir, she trusted most of what he said about their family to be the truth. she wanted to know how fenrir would react to her brother's name. maybe it wasn't so smart to bring him up now, but... would fenrir get angry? tell her to ignore her brother? or would he just brush it off and come out the better person over the nurse?[/div] 1180 words with code,.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul The Words: 814 The Tagged: echo The Notes sorry about the wait "you could have just introduced yourself earlier," He smiled, yes he could have introduced himself but he felt it was more fun for her to play the guessing game. Besides he didnt know how she would have reacted to the whole 'Hello Echo, i'm your father' directness of it all. At least by playing the game he allowed her to come to grips with it slowly, much better in his opinion. "And take the fun out of everything?" he asked with a chuckle, "Didnt want you running for the castle if I did the direct approach." Now that the air between them was clearer, it seemed a little easier to talk to her, not having to hide who he was.
He took in her appearance again, she looked so much like her mother and he begun to wonder just what happened to the woman. There had been no contact between them, it was like she had dropped off the face of the earth.
"not my fault all of the textbooks display you as a scarred forty-some year old," She had spirit in her, that much he could tell from the way she spoke. She was obviously referring to the books all about the second wizarding war. Those books should never have been written, perhaps people wanted to remember Voldemort, but why? He was nothing more than a power hungry dictator, much like himself. Ok Voldemort had the big reputation of the most powerful dark wizard or some crap like that, but look where it got him in the end, dead with no offspring to keep the line going. At least he was still alive with numerous children, in his eyes he was so much more powerful than Voldemort. "And yet they have no idea whether I changed or not," he shook his head. Had he changed, definitely. No one got thrown in Azkaban and came out the same. Not only had his appearance changed but so had his outlook. Oh he still wanted werewolves to rule, but he was thinking more of his children now, trying to change the world for the better, all for them, all for other werewolves who were forced into hiding, he was more determined. "I admit, I done some bad things in the past, but war brings out the worst in a person." And it wasnt a lie, he had done bad things in the past, things he had wanted to do and did do. Since the war he hardly killed anymore, but that didnt mean to say he didnt miss it or he was going soft. Oh now he could very much kill someone right now if he wanted too, all he had to do was lift a finger and their life would be his.
Fenrir nodded, of course it would be impossible, especially in defence against the dark arts where they learnt about werewolves. No doubt his name would have been mentioned a few times in that class, heck he wouldnt have been surprised if the question of who was the most notorious werewolf popped up on any of the exams.
"seyton's told me all about... us." He clenched his teeth together at the name. Seyton had gotten to her first, it was infuriating. But how could he make it seem like he was the good guy and not Seyton. "There's something you must know about your oldest brother, he's not quite right in his mind. Oh he functions perfectly and from what i've heard he does his job alright, but ever since his ex girlfriend was attack, he's been messed up, even goes as far as blaming me for her hating him. Ive tried getting him help but he refuses, just be weary of him." Make it seem like the black sheep of the family was mental seemed like a good idea, a bloody brilliant idea actually. "If you need to know anything about the family, come find me, or Adrian, he knows most things," he added.
He needed to get off the topic of Seyton and fast, what he said was a small white lie, one that wouldnt hurt anyone, but hopefully make her turn to him instead. "You know when I heard your mother had run off, I came after you, trying to get you back but you're grandparents already had custody of you by the time I reached you. I figured you'd be safer with them, but i've always kept watch over you and your siblings, hiding in the shadows, having people keeping me informed of you. When I found out that you're grandparents refused to tell you about me, I wanted to rip their heads off. Every child has the right to know their parents no matter what said parents had done in the past." He stopped and took a deep breath; hopefully this topic would distract her from the Seyton one. |
