flightless birdwhere was the most stereotypical place for a ravenclaw student to be found? even slytherins shouldn't have to think too hard to figure it out. the house was pinned as holding all of the brainiacs, the studious nerds with nothing better to do than read and write O-earning essays. the best place to do such things was, of course, the library, which was where nikki wynter could be found on the first saturday evening of january. the immediate observation might have been that a fifteen year old girl should have better things to do with her time on a weekend than spend it alone in a library, and this was... unfortunately false, or maybe not depending on how you looked at things. she could probably find something to do... friends to hang out with, for example, but she hadn't searched out an activity to fill her evening with any more than others had called her out. it was fine, really. her friends knew that if she did anything on saturday it usually involved a certain greyback. so, in a way, today wasn't unusual in any way. after all, the whole family could certainly be related to the topic she was currently looking up on the dusty shelves of the library... lycanthropy.
maybe it was stupid, the hope of having information on werewolves ease her nerves. but knowledge had never made nikki feel any worse ever before. she knew the basics of the disease, and a bit more since she'd gained interest in jasper, but there was plenty about werewolves she knew nothing about, like how exactly half-werewolves differed from full werewolves other than the monthly transformations. did their human temperament change at all? maybe that could be a suitable explanation for how odd jasper had been increasingly acting since the bite his father had given him, though nikki still wanted to believe that that had just been his overactive imagination and that he was still the same guy she'd come to care so much for.
so, at roughly nine pm, with the library practically deserted around her, nikki was wandering down the aisles reserved for magical creatures, hoping to find a book that gave her the information she desired. if she couldn't find it she'd head to the 'magical illnesses' section, but if that failed to produce results she would be clueless. she supposed she could always ask the librarian for help, but frankly the older woman gave nikki the creeps and she wasn't keen on any sort of conversation with her.
there was an eerie feeling to the library when it was this quiet and no light streaming in from the windows. the flickering candles and torches spread throughout the huge room seemed to only add to the atmosphere than they did provide light and ease the girl's nerves. the ravenclaw found herself moving faster, standing on her tiptoes to try to reach a book that seemed promising on a shelf a few feet above her head so that she could get the hell out of the room. her fingers closed over the spine, pulling it forwards towards the edge of the shelf, but just when she thought she had it she lost her footing and stumbled, jerking the book with her, which knocked the other books on the shelf. before she knew it the girl's shriek echoed through the library as she fell towards the ground, tens of books following her to the floor. words- 807, tag- open!, outfit- jeans and a navy blouse with belt notes-n/a |

Something in the air had told Derek to head to the library, it was too cold to chill in the gardens (which is what he liked to do the most) and the Ravenclaw common room was filled with arrogant elitist jerks who bitched and moaned at the smell of his cigarettes. It was beautiful, he had found the perfect spot in the library to smoke and not get caught. It was between the exotic plants and history of divinations sub-sections that had a window where he was able to let the smoke out into. Grabbing a coat and a nice long trench coat, he left the Ravenclaw tower with a very grim look on his face. Last night had been a full moon and he wasn’t able to get any sleep. It was strange; Derek had gotten even more aggressive as he ran down to the kitchen to get some food and converse with some of the house elves. They were very devoted to their job and never thanked, there was something about loyalty that really impressed the Greyback. With his left hand on his lighter, he occasionally played with the thing letting it move through the gaps of his fingers in motion as if it was bewitched to dance through them. Knocking a few precious first years on his way down, Derek really didn’t care. His right hand was bruised and still red from last night as he also headed into the grounds to punch trees. It was masculine and stupid but did it really tire Derek out, it was one of the few ways he was able to get out his aggression from the relentless moon. Being a half-werewolf was the worse because he had the anger of a Werewolf but wasn’t able to turn. The release was definelty in the turning as the body transforms into a vicious beast ravaging and destroying anything in its path. That sort of power intrigued Derek, an untapped glorious form that let his body work for once instead of his mind. Always overanalyzing, sometimes Derek wondered what it was like for those who just worked on impulse. It just wasn’t him but sometimes, just sometimes he yearned that he could act like them, if only for a day. Looking out into the night sky once again, he saw the ebb of the moon had began. ”Good.” he muttered with his hands in his pockets still heading down to the library, these were the worst three days because all he wanted to do during the night was either fuck someone very aggressively, kill someone or eat blood meat. It was disgusting, it made Derek feel inhumane but it was his life for the past ten years or so. Finally making his way into the library, he smiled at the gentle librarians who orchestrated their books back into position. ”Is my section open?” he asked as she gave a gracious smile and nod, and Derek was off. Grabbing the book he was currently working on: Dark Wizards and the Mentors that Inspired, a gracious take on those wizards who tormented the world and why they did it. Mostly because of family issues but it was always something he enjoyed reading, the tormenting of others. A bit twisted but Derek was a Greyback, it was in his genes. Liting his cigarette and sitting on his favorite chair, the Ravenclaw had begun his descent into the book zoning out everything else as the candles flickered in the library. A few minutes as he was reading, a large thud could be heard and Derek jumped. Who the hell could be in the library at this hour? Grabbing his wand, the kid was off to find the suspect. ”Lumos.” he said as his wand emitted a bright light and in the other hand was hit lit cigarette. Soon enough he saw none other then Nikita Wynter was scaring herself, ”What the hell are you doing here?” he asked, announcing Nox.” as he put his wand back into his pocket for safekeeping. Derek took a long drag from his cigarette and looked at her waiting for an answer. 690 words | nikita bby | sorry this took to long c: |

flightless birdhow klutzy could you get? bookshelves were nothing new to nikita. she'd been eaching up high to grab books since she was little and her father gave her her first picture book, sitting with her on his knee to read to her after the day's classes were over in the elementary school he'd worked in. libraries were as familiar to her as home... so how did she end up flat on the floor under a blanket of books after trying to grab one of them?
with a small groan the ravenclaw tried to push herself to her feet, wincing at a sharp pain in her wrist. she'd partially landed on it, trying to break her fall, but the jab of pain wasn't enough to make her think that it was possible it was broken. she started to maneuver out of the pile of books, pushing them to the side as she slowly stood to her feet, brushing off her jeans. that was... embarrassing, but at least the library was empty enough at this time of day that the odds of anyone hearing her fall were pretty low.
but then... luck had never been on on nikki's side. a bright light in the darkness, a spell from the end of someone's wand, momentarily blinded her as she looked into it, beginning to crouch down to gather the books she'd knocked to the floor. the figure behind the wand was hidden, but their voice was familiar. ”what the hell are you doing here?” one of the girl's eyebrows raised at the tone and words. someone was certainly confident in their own authority. a moment later that confidence was explained as the guy canceled the illumination spell from his wand, letting nikki's eyes adjust and her mind identify the other student. she tried not to look at him for too long, afraid that her gaze might give her thoughts away. would he even have any clue who she was? she knew him... he was a greyback, and her boyfriend's elder brother. he wouldn't know that connection she had to him, and she'd prefer things stay that way, especially after their father's attack of jasper. it had nikki on edge around all of the other greyback students, even echo, and even jasper because he wasn't himself lately. "i didn't realize i needed permission to go to the library, derek. is there some reason i shouldn't be here?"
without waiting for much of a response she crouched down again, shuffling through the thick books on the floor, putting them into two piles. one contained only two books, "beasts of the full moon" and "dark creatures of the magical world". neither had very imaginative names, but she figured they were good places for her to start her search. the second pile contained all the other books, and with a wave of the muggleborn witch's wand she sent them soaring back up to their shelves, back in their places. now, that would have been a much easier way to get them down in the first place. words- 807, tag- open!, outfit- jeans and a navy blouse with belt notes-this is a bit of a terrible post... sorry! |
