Rose had never really been a girl who liked dancing. The masquerade ball hadn’t been much fun for her but she had still gone. Everyone seemed to insist she would be missing out on a lot if she didn’t go. So she had done what everyone suggested. While the ball hadn’t been terrible it hadn’t been her thing. So when everyone became excited about the Yule Ball Rose swore she wasn’t going to go, no matter who encouraged her otherwise. The funny thing about that was that things seemed to never go as planned for her lately and it was slightly frustrating for her.
She hadn’t expected anyone to ask her so she hadn’t thought much about the ball while the other girls in her year were. She had to study and quidditch practices, and those were her excuses whenever anyone tried to talk to her about the ball. She’d even gone to Hogsmeade with a fairly nice boy and since he had made no mention of it she was relieved as he had been rather fun to be around. But it hadn’t been him who had asked her to the dreaded ball. Oh no it was a boy that her father would disapprove of above all others. He was supposed to be off limits to her, not only as the son of her father’s former childhood enemy but as the ex- boyfriend of her best friend.
All intentions of turning down whoever asked disappeared when he had asked. To be completely honest it had thrown her off guard. Of all people she had never expected him to be the one who asked. And she hadn’t expected to accept. Her feelings for him had grown since the start of the year and it had taken her awhile to figure out that she liked him. Once she had come to that realization she had gone out of her way to avoid him, not that it was all that hard. And that was how she found herself going to the ball with Scorpius Malfoy.
It was finally the night of the Yule Ball and Rose was getting ready. Although she hadn’t wanted to go at first didn’t mean that she didn’t intend to look good. Even if it wasn’t exactly familiar for her to get all dressed up. It had taken her awhile but she had finally found the perfect white and silver ball gown. It was strapless and had taken a few adjustments but it fit perfectly. Standing in front of the mirror she was glad she had decided to get ready alone. Twirling in front of the mirror she checked the back of the dress and made sure it was zipped properly. Slipping on the matching heels and her favorite bracelet she used her wand to tie her hair behind her head loosely, it would most likely end up out of the holder but she was running late as it was already.
With one last look into the mirror she left the dorms and made her way down to the great hall, trying to hide her nervousness. Although Rose knew that Aubrey had gone to the ball with Frank but she still couldn’t help but feel what she was doing was wrong. Hopefully Aubrey wouldn’t be too mad at her. Rose stopped by the doors of the Great hall and waited for Scorpius to show up.
