It was easy to see where people had walked the day before because of the uneven layer of snow on the grounds. It had just finished snowing and she was glad for the fresh layer covering her tracks from the night before. It was the full moon and she loved the thrill of the run just hated the sudden cold that wash over her that morning when the moon went down. She was sitting behind the gamekeepers cabin, near the woods. She was glad for the cabin since it did block a good amount of the piercing wind that came from the lake.
She tied her long black hair back in a bun, making a mental note to dye it again. Some of the brown was starting to show through and she wasn't going to deal with it. She didn't mind having brown hair but she found that it was easier to hunt at night with black fur and to be honest she still hated anything that had to do with her family. The only things she had grown to enjoy was being a werewolf. Even then only a few knew about that little part of her. She made sure her school robe was wrapped around her to make sure no cold could reach her skin.
Her bright green eyes scanned the forest line. She didn't have to worry about going to classes that morning since she didn't have one. It was nice to not be taking classes in the morning. It gave her time to rest after a long night. Alaya was glad for the peace for once. With the strange things going on at the school and the tournament going on she was glad for these times to just think. It seemed like she was always doing something. From school, quidditch, the tournament and then spending whatever free time she had with Seizel there was little peace. She love spending time with Seizel and still enjoyed Quidditch but there was still that need for peace ever once in a while, especially now with the Yule Ball around the corner.
She smiled and laughed slightly at how stupid her thought were at that moment. There were other more important things to worry about. Like the strange things going on at the school and also her little dilemma that would determine if she was going to be coming back for her last year. There was only one way to have full freedom and the decision was not something she could make lightly and it wasn't something she could talk to anyone with even her best friend. Which was sad in itself.
She took a deep breath to help clear her mind. It was just best to enjoy what little time she could like this.

Ryan was doing yet another favorite past time of his: walking. He always knew he had a lots of favorite pastimes, but never this many. Everything just seemed so much fun! Bubble blowing, tree climbing, snowball fights, walking, watching the grass grow... yeah, he was an odd fifteen year old. As Ryan walked, pulling his cloak closer to him as the wind picked up again, he began thinking about all the talk that had been going on around the school. The tournament, and rumors of strange happenings. All Ryan could do was keep his eyes open and hope that no one got seriously hurt.
Even though it was brisk outside, his inner peace was calm. He was grateful for the day. That he got to live and have fun. His father had told him something once from a muggle movie he saw: try to imagine a bird on your shoulder. Ask the bird every day: is this the day? Is this the day I'm going to die? Any time it could happen. BOOM! Lights out. He had learned that when Edmund fell out of the tree. Ryan tried assessing his life daily. Was he living life the way he liked? It wasn't bad advice, but easier said than done.
Looking at the fresh snow on the ground, Ryan grinned. Beautiful nature... it looked nearly untouched. Aside from a few tracts in the ground, it looked new and undisrupted. He saw some tracts and his eyes went to follow them. They led to the gamekeeper's hut. A smile and an idea came to his head. One: get away from the wind. Two: he may have the aspect of meeting someone! The Hufflepuff edged his way over, the wind hitting his face and making him shiver. His hands were getting cold too... and he still hadn't invested in a good pair of gloves. Ryan mentally put that on his Christmas list, along with a new bottle of bubbles or two.
He finally got to the hut and then scrambled behind it. At first he thought that the person had gone, but then realized that the person was still there. Awesome! His face split into a grin. "Hey!" he greeted happily, thrilled to have an opportunity to potentially make a new friend. "Looks like I wasn't the only one with the 'Get away from the wind' idea," he laughed, smiling at the girl. Like many others, he had seen her around the school, but he didn't think he had ever talked to her.

The brightness from the sun mixed with the snow illuminated everything within sight. Even the forbidden forest that usually was dark and foreboding was almost welcoming to the non frequent traveler. It was so tempting for the werewolf to venture into the depths of the forest once more but she thought better of it. It wasn't because she noticed someone else approaching, but more so a test on her part. Staying in full control was one of the hardest things to learn and now that she had a grasp of it she wasn't about to let it go. Giving in to the temptation of venturing into the forest would loosen that grip she had.
Alaya decided to turn her attention to the boy that started to speak to her. He seemed like an underclassmen by maybe a year. Since he was in hufflepuff she did not know him. All things considered she did not know many people. Since being champion she had met more people this year than any of her other years at the school combined. A curse of not being social for the first two years of school. She was starting to, dare she say it, enjoy talking with others and meeting new people. Maybe not as much as most but it was growing on her. She blamed James for that.
She looked the boy over again before answering. "No I guess not. It is a fine morning, calm and quiet" Alaya emphasized the last word but in a playful voice. Surprisingly she seemed more welcoming than normal. "Name's Alaya, Alaya Tiaun. And who might you be?" She asked in her usual monotone voice. Her eyes were on the boy but her attention did not waver form the forest. It was always better to be safe than sorry.
She of all people knew the dangers of the forest even in the daylight. During winter food would be scares so other predators would dare venture closer to the edge of the forest looking for a quick and easy meal. A couple students would be an easy target, at least most predators would believe so.

Ryan had always been wary of the forest. The forest in Hogwarts terms, at least. For four years he had gotten the same spiel that it was forbidden and dangerous and all that stuff, but today, it almost looked like his forest at home. It almost looked non-threatning. Half of him was thinking that it was just him being too happy about being outside and having all the new snow on the ground. He had seen the untouched snow from the doors of the Entrance Hall; it was so beautiful. Perfect nature. This is why he loved country side. Then again, he was biased, he was raised in a rural area.
As he looked at the girl, he wracked his brain, trying to remember if there was anything he knew about her other than seeing her face around the school for the past four years. Nothing came to mind, but that was normal for him. Hogwarts so big, it was impossible to meet and know everyone in one fell swoop. It was sort of confusing, Ryan'd think that he knew most of the people's faces, only to find new ones a few weeks later. Add onto the fact that he was spacey and easily distracted, Ryan could of seen one person multiple times, but only really register them a couple.
The fourteen year old grinned. "Yes, it is... very nice," he smiled. Then he chuckled. "Used to be more like it," he pointed out teasingly, picking up on the playful note in her voice. Cue monotone; slight confusion flickered over Ryan's face before he realized that they were still infront of the forest. Right. Hogwart's forest was more dangerous than the nice welcoming forest at home. At home, he was completely fine with the woods, at Hogwarts, it was forbidden, and from what he had heard, for good reasons. "Alyssa," Ryan nodded. "Nice to meet you." Somewhere, the name clicked with something he had heard recently, but he got distracted as soon as she asked for his name in turn. "Ryan Simons. Or anything relating to that," he added with a grin.
