[atrb=width,240] there was constant sound in nikki’s dorm room as girls hurried here and there to get ready for the yule ball. it seemed that there was even more activity tonight than there had been at the masquerade ball, which made sense. at the masquerade ball couples didn’t know that they might end up together, and in most cases they didn’t. there hadn’t been a need for girls who’d attended the masquerade ball to look their very best when there was no one confirmed to look their best for. this was different. each girl in nikki’s dorm, like her, had a set date for the ball, and so there was a lot of ‘how do i look?’s and ‘can you help me?’s floating about the room. it was kind of amusing, actually, how even girls who were chilly at best to each other on any other day of the week could bond together to help each other look perfect whenever there was a ball. nikki couldn’t claim to be immune to all of the excitement. like most of the girls in her dorm, she had a date. having a date that you knew made the night so much more special and your appearance that much more important. she’d been getting ready with the rest of her dormmates for the last two hours, helping others with their hair, doing up their dresses, giving critiques on appearances, and of course getting ready herself until even she, generally (like any girl) her biggest critic, had to agree that she looked stunning and that her boyfriend’s jaw would hopefully drop to the floor at her appearance. she’d been more than wary of dressing up today. she was always wary of that, lately… of how she looked and acted around jasper. wary, not afraid. she always had to make sure to emphasize the difference between the two to herself. she didn’t want to make things any more difficult on jasper than they had to be after their encounter at the lake and jasper’s… circumstances. but this was the ball… she deserved to be able to dress up one day a year, right? this time it wouldn’t be as though they were alone by the lake in the middle of the night. for a good amount of time, at least, unless they decided to take a walk, they would be in the great hall surrounded by other students and staff chaperones. looking at herself in a mirror on the wall that stood taller than she, nikki allowed herself to ignore worries for a moment to just enjoy how the last few hours of helping and styling had paid off on herself. she was fully dressed, waiting for some of the other girls to decide to leave before she did (she didn't want to be the first to ditch), and she had to admit... there was a gorgeous girl staring back at her. as nikita lifted a hand and ran it down the rippling material of the fabric over her stomach the girl in the mirror did the same, toying with the beading. one of her dormmates had been in charge of her hair, and nikki didn't dare touch it for fear that the beautiful arrangement would fall apart. how the girl had managed to bind it up in such an elegant style with little pearl-like clips stuck here and there, the muggleborn had no idea, but she knew not to mess with perfection so she admired her hair 'from a distance'. by the time nikki and a few of the other girls headed down to the ravenclaw commons room and then to the great hall, she was pretty sure she'd had her appearance memorized, and by that point the familiar girlfriend anxiety of 'i hope he likes how i look' had hit her rather hard. not that she'd change anything about her appearance if he wasn't too pleased... it would be too late for that. what was she thinking, anyway? jasper was, in her opinion, one of the most supportive boyfriends possible. there was no way he'd turn into an ass criticizing her appearance. she had to stop her paranoia when she reached the top of the steps going down to the great hall. her eyes instantly began scanning the growing crowd of students, both male and female, grouped in front of the doors and slowly filing into the great hall, or just standing about in the entrance area waiting for someone. suddenly nikki realized that she had no clue what to do now... she didn't know where she and jasper were supposed to meet. the actual hall, or just wait around out here...? the muggleborn decided that the second option was the safest bet, so when she reached the bottom of the stairs she moved out of the way, near the wall, and looked around for the familiar face of her werewolf boyfriend. | [atrb=width,100] |
