It wasn’t much of a secret that Nikko wasn’t exactly a brain. No, his specialty was making people laugh, more the class clown type than anything else, but did that mean that he slacked off? Of course it did. So the fact that Nikko had just spent the past three hours knocking out all of his class work for the entire week was a huge accomplishment for the young Hufflepuff. He had a sort of confidence about him that borderlined on arrogance, stepping over that line on a few occasions as he headed down the corridor wanting to drop off his school bag in his dorm room to be free of the heavy burden, not to mention major pain in the ass, that lay within it. A large grin was plastered on his lips and rather than walking, Nikko was strutting, winking at pretty girls along his route and simply just relishing in the high feeling that was coursing through his body.
As Nikko rounded a corner he saw something, or more accurately, someone that caught his attention. A big blob of gray frizzy fur perched on a windowsill. Nikko shook his head going over to the fat cat and swooped it up in his arms not much caring that the plain white tee that he wore would soon be covered in cat hair, his vintage leather jacket making the familiar creak as he cradled his cat, Fritz, in his arms rubbing behind the ear. “You fat fucker.” Nikko scolded affectionately, Scottish accent thick. He wasn’t sure how his cat always seemed to find its way out of the Hufflepuff common room. It had to be his silly sods of roommates letting him slip out the door when they went in and out, but now Nikko had two reasons to go back to the common room.
It wasn’t that he minded Fritz getting out and about sometimes, just that he worried about what might happen to him. Peeves could lock him up in a classroom that he had wondered into or someone could trip over the cat. Nikko’s concern was on a high note especially since he had heard about that toad being stolen from the Weasley kid. The thought of someone snatching up his beloved cat didn’t sit very well with Nikko. It was sure to make him cranky and no one liked Nikko when he was in one of those moods. He was a right pisser. Starting back on his way he was forced to stop short, sidestepping to avoid the girl that had came around the corner right up on him. Noticing who it was Nikko grinned. “Mind yourself Charlie.”

Charlie was simply minding her own business, walking down the corridor, lost in her thoughts, as usual when she came face to face with someone she did not want to see. Nikko. Ugh.
"Mind yourself Charlie" She scowled at Nikko. "You mind yourself!" She huffed, not enjoying the smirk on his face in the slightest. "And wipe that silly smirk off your face!"
And of course, at the worst time, her tics kicked in. She felt her eyes blink rapidly and her arm jerked at the elbow. She hated this. She wasn't in control of it, and she just knew Nikko would make fun of her for it. She remembered a time when they actually got along, when they were younger, as kids. When her tics appeared, he supported her, letting her know it was all okay. She hated it when she was little; she cried after the episodes because she was angry.
As the rapid tics stopped, Charlie found herself blinking back tears. I mustn't let him see me cry. He'd probably only tease me more. She brought a hand to her face, brushing her thumbs over closed eyes. Charlie dropped her hand and cleared her throat.
"Please don't tell anyone you saw that. You probably want to call me a freak like everyone else.... You did... once. I've never forgiven you for that. I don't think I can." Charlie's gaze quickly fell from Nikko's face. Why was she telling him this? Why was she actually being somewhat civil? And why did she almost cry a second ago? What was wrong with her?

The smirk, defiantly, stayed planted on Nikko’s lips feeling that it was rightfully placed now that Charlie wanted him to get rid of it. They had been friends once, in their formative years, but one over zealous moment had left Nikko out in the cold. She had always known that he could get a little eccentric at times and that he never really meant anything by the things that he said, but still Charlie had blown up at him and he felt like she had never given him the chance to explain himself. Not that Nikko wanted to explain himself. What was there to say? I’m sorry? That wouldn’t change the fact that he had still made fun of her that one day, and didn’t all the days before where he had supported her and been that shoulder for her to cry on count for anything. One mistake and Nikko was suddenly the bad guy. It wasn’t fair.
However, he wasn’t a cruel person so when Charlie’s tics started to spaz on her the smirk quickly vanished. That wasn’t funny in any way. He still cared about her, after all those years it was impossible for him not to, but he just went along with her hatred for him. Nikko didn’t tease her, or even make any expression that could lead her to believe that he got pleasure out of seeing her syndrome act up. Everytime he had seen it happen before Nikko had always felt so helpless, wanting to do something to ease her pain, but the only thing he had been able to do was be there for her. He couldn’t even do that now because Charlie didn’t want him to.
“I’m not gonna say anything to anyone.” Nikko promised her sympathetically. Straight from the mouths of babes, Charlie would never forgive him and he just had to accept that. He felt ashamed that he had called her a freak before. At the time Nikko had just been all revved up over some punk kid in the neighborhood and Charlie hadn’t understood why he disliked the guy so much and after all the understanding that he had shown her it would have been nice to get a little in return. He had snapped, called her a freak, and because of that they had stopped being friends. Looking down at his cat Nikko’s brow was furrowed heavily letting these thoughts weigh down on his mind. “Maybe you shouldn’t be so stubborn.” The words were out of his mouth the moment he had thought them. She was being stubborn.

At first, Charlie was angry that Nikko's smirk didn't disappear, but after her tics stopped, she noticed it was gone. And... was that pain in his eyes? Charlie chewed the inside of her lip, feeling a bit bad now... It was her nature, she didn't like to hurt people.
"I'm not going to say anything to anyone." Charlie's eyes widened slightly and she looked back up at Nikko. "Good... t-thank you." She struggled with the word, as she really had nothing to thank him for. After all... what he did... She really didn't know if she could bring herself to forgive him. He shattered her trust for him, and if she ever did trust him again, it would kind of resemble a broken mirror put together again. There would always be cracks; flaws.
Maybe you shouldn't be so stubborn." Charlie raised her eyebrows. Did he just say that to her?
"Excuse me? How long have you known me, Nik?" She faltered slightly as she realized she called him his nickname, a word she hadn't used in years. "You know I'm stubborn, it's not going to change anything. Trust is a hard thing to gain back, and I don't think I want to let you back in if you're just going to hurt me again... It hurt me severely, Nik. You probably didn't realize it, as I got called the same name every day for years. After awhile, it really got to me. It still does. And apparently you're too much of an imbecile to see your mistake!"
Charlie let out a huff of air as she grew frustrated. Nik just didn't understand anymore. It was as if they never grew up together... Did he not realize stuff like that still hurt? She let out a noise somewhere between a hiccup and a contained sob and turned away from him so he wouldn't see her cry. She lifted her hands to her face and rubbed her eyes, willing the tears to just go away so she wouldn't embarrass herself any further. [/size]

She seemed genuinely shocked that he was agreeing not to say anything. He hadn’t changed into some horrible beast in the lull of their friendship, just a teenage boy, which in a way he could see where that shock might have come from. But still. Nikko was a little offended by it. It caused him to be a tad bit huffy, “You’re welcome.” Charlie’s eyes were glazed over he had seen that look before. Tears were welling up and her tone was subtly effected by it, small hitches in her voice indicating that at any moment now Charlie was going to spring into tears. They may not have been friends anymore but that didn’t mean that he got any joy out of seeing her upset or crying.
It was there and then gone again, her emotions on a roller coaster when it came to him it seemed. Charlie was either hurt or angry with him and the fluctuations between the two were giving him whiplash. That was so hypocritical! “And how long have you known me?” Nikko returned feeling a bit of bluster rise up inside of him. “You knew that I could get a bit carried away sometimes and that I only mean the things I say good naturedly, it just that they aren’t always taken as such and I go and do one thing, one Charlie, and you just dump me like yesterday’s trash.” You didn’t do that to friends.
“Its called forgiveness for a reason. Not because it’s supposed to be easy, but because you have to show some faith in the person you’re forgiving, not to mention yourself.” His voice was rising slightly in his indignation with her. She thought she was so superior to him, didn’t she? “What do you want me to say? I’m sorry, fine, I am. I opened my mouth, words came out, and it was stupid. I’m an imbecile, fine, dually noted. What’s done is done either forgive me and stop your whining or you’re always going to feel hurt.” He wasn’t much of the philosophical type, but it seemed like the fate Charlie was sewing herself with her stubbornness.

"And how long have you known me?" Charlie swallowed a lump in her throat, not answering him. She didn't trust herself to speak at the moment.
“You knew that I could get a bit carried away sometimes and that I only mean the things I say good naturedly, it just that they aren’t always taken as such and I go and do one thing, one Charlie, and you just dump me like yesterday’s trash.” Charlie bit her lip, still facing away from Nikko. It was true he did get carried away at times, and she knew everything he said was true. But she couldn't tell him that... She was still too stubborn.
"Its called forgiveness for a reason. Not because it’s supposed to be easy, but because you have to show some faith in the person you’re forgiving, not to mention yourself." Charlie gulped, on the borderline of breaking down. She was finally hearing things from him that she wanted to hear... She knew she was wrong... She truly did. But the stubbornness was still there. She couldn't make it go away; it was part of her.
“What do you want me to say? I’m sorry, fine, I am. I opened my mouth, words came out, and it was stupid. I’m an imbecile, fine, dually noted. What’s done is done either forgive me and stop your whining or you’re always going to feel hurt.” Charlie shook her head. She knew he was sorry. He didn't need to tell her. It was her own damn fault; she actually did want to forgive him... but there was something in her... stopping herself from reaching that point. She turned around to face him, tears streaming down her face. She opened her mouth to speak but a sob escaped. Next thing she knew, she was pushing him aside and taking off down the hallway, vision blurred from the tears that fell fast now that she was away from him. She stumbled and fell to the floor in a heap, and she sobbed.
"What is wrong with me?" she whispered. She wanted him as a friend again... Why couldn't she just forgive him?

Hearing those choked up little sobs that Charlie was trying to beat back, Nikko felt like shit. He knew that he was being harsh but going to subtle route hadn’t gotten them anywhere. Was this one of those necessary evils that people spoke about? If so he had never anticipated how much it would suck Charlie was hands down, the sweetest person that he knew, never said a bad thing about anyone, ever, and there he was reaming her with the harsh truth of how things were, no sugar coating it or ever sprinkling it with pleasantries, just raw fact. That feeling the he was one low SOB got stronger and stronger with her verbal silence, with nothing to break the void but the sound of her emotions breaking down around them. He was a right git.
Nikko rubbed the back of his neck with one hand he was forced to shift Fritz’s weight to one arm. Nothing was ever easy was it? A nicotine craving punched him in the gut tokick him while he was down. And what if this didn’t work? Then he would have just acted like a dick in front of her for no reason. Already he was regretting having made such a bonehead move. He should have just apologized, stepped aside and let her continue on her merry way. But no, that wasn’t in his nature. Nikko had just had to make some snarky comment and then it lead to this… as Charlie brushed past him a heavy, self-deprivating sigh passed his lips. Imbecile she had called him, very accurate.
He had been taking his first step in the opposite direction when Charlie’s voice carried down the deserted corridor reaching his ears, as well as the thud that had occurred only a moment beforehand. Twisting to look in the direction she had jetted off in he saw her slumped on the ground. She didn’t want to forgive him and have him as a friend anymore that meant that she didn’t want his consolation or sympathy now too, didn’t it? Nikko should just walk away and leave her to her woe, but did he? No, it wasn’t in his nature. Crouching down next to her, Nikko lifted her chin with his forefinger giving her a small lopsided grin. “Not a damn thing, toots. Just bloody stubborn.”

Charlie jumped when she felt someone touch her. She raised her eyes to see Nikko and relaxed. It was odd, one minute, she's hysterical, and the next minute she felt at complete ease around him. She smiled softly, and wiped away the tear tracks on her face, trying to pull herself together. "I-I guess I am pretty stubborn, huh?" She laughed softly, hiccuping quietly as the tears finally stopped. She looked up at Nikko once more, sincerity in her eyes.
"Nik, I'm the one who should be apologizing, not you. I overreact a lot; heck, we both do. I never let you explain, anything. I'm sorry. I really truly am." She flung her arms around him, murmuring a quick sorry to his cat as she squished the poor thing. "I'm sorry Nik... was all she could really say. She had no words to attach to it, she was just sorry. She was a bad friend, not giving him the chance to explain himself or anything. She had always given him the cold shoulder and gone out of her way to avoid him. Now she finally came to her senses. What kind of friend was that? She just hoped he could forgive her, after all this time. She pulled away from him, still partially on the ground, and carefully got to her feet. She glanced over at him, still wary he would reject her plea like she had done his every time.

Getting that up close and personal view of Charlie’s tear stained cheeks, that glossy sheen in her eyes making them turn a lighter hue of brown, it brought that unpleasant prickling feeling to the bridge of his nose feeling himself tear up as well, but was quick to blink the treacherous beasts back. Nikko hated, no loathed, seeing Charlie like that. He widened his smile hoping that it would help. “Well yeah, but its all part of what always made you special. I’ve got this horrible fondness for the frustration that your tenacity can cause.” It was good to hear her laugh again, to have that earnestness directed at him once again.
He nodded solemnly, a contradiction to the toothy grin that he was flashing at her. Feeling Fritz pinned between them in the hug the gray blob squirmed sucking in its breath in order to slip out of his arm, which, under the circumstances, Nikko allowed. “You’re forgiven.” He informed matter of factly regaining his balance that Charlie had managed to knock out of him momentarily when she flung his arms around him. It really was that simple for him too. Unlike Charlie who had, apparently, lost her trust in him, Nikko had never doubted her loyalty or friendship, even when he hadn’t had the privilege of either.
She was an amazing person, he might not have been super perceptive, and yeah, his mouth had a bad habit of opening up and speaking before really thinking things through, but he knew Charlie’s character. There wasn’t an evil bone in her body, she would never be callous or malicious toward another, never aim to hurt someone. Charlie was the genuine article, a real saint. How could Nikko not forgive her?

Charlie was ecstatic, to put it simply. He forgave her, just like that... After all this time, he could simply forgive her, no questions asked. She had a few of her own, but decided they could wait for another time. She beamed up at Nikko, realizing now how tall he was. He had to be close to a foot taller than she, if not more.
"You make me feel tiny!" she exclaimed, stretching up onto her toes, but to no avail. He still towered over her. She hadn't realized how much he had grown in the past few years. She felt something furry winding its way around her ankles and smiled, bending to pick up Nik's cat and handed it back to him with a small smile.
Charlie looked up at Nikko and saw his appearance. She shook her head softly, a smile tugging at her lips and tried to fix his tie, which honestly looked like it was about to fall off from around his neck.
"You, sir, look like a ragamuffin." Charlie gave him a playful wink, showing him she was just joking and reached over to stroke Fritz between the ears, setting the cat into a loud purr. Charlie laughed merrily, her cat didn't exactly like to be petted near its ears, so Charlie very rarely got a purr out of Abbie.
Where she was headed off to when she ran into Nikko was far gone, and she couldn't remember if she wanted to. "So... where were you headed again?" ooc; should we wrap this thread up and go somewhere else?

”It’s ‘cause you are tiny.” Nikko informed her matter of fact. She had barely inched over the five-foot mark and there he was in his lanky six foot plus looking like a giant amongst a midget in her presence but Nikko didn’t mind. It put Charlie right at that perfectly height to sling his arm over her shoulder in quite the comfortable position. He had always been taller than her, even as children Nikko had always had, at least, three inches on her. Charlie was just a petite girl and there was no harm in that- lucky for her she was so well portioned in this stunted height of hers. She wouldn’t be strutting down any runways, but Nikko liked her- thought she was perfect as is.
He gratefully took Fritz back into his arms when Charlie passed him off allowing his beastly cat to get some good lovin’ from the pretty girlie. Nikko’s arms vibrated lightly from the purring that was being coax out of the cat compliments of Charlie. That lopsided, infamous, grin of his was back in a wink as she fussed over his appearance. Though he didn’t physically protest Nikko was, light-heartedly, verbal about it. “Come on Chaz, ye gonna make me look like one of those pouncy little mincey neaps that walk ‘round here like they got themselves a proper stick up their tight arses.” It wasn’t unusal for Nikko to have such colourful language, but it had gotten much worse since Charlie and him had been close.
With his parent’s being as…care free as they were Nikko had the liberty of speaking so brazenly no matter the company, in fact his dad found it a riot to hear Nikko go on like that. Bad influence right there, though still a damn good man. “I was just heading to the Common Room, to drop this off.” He pulled on the strap of his satchel indicating it. “You should walk with me. Make me look more presentable by association- save me from my wayward ways of looking like a ragamuffin.” Nikko jerked his head toward the corridor.

Charlie stuck her tongue out at Nikko playfully. "Nu-uh! I'm not tiny, you're just too bloody tall! Shrink!" She smiled up at him when he put his arm over her shoulder, but the smile faded as he spoke up again.
"Gee, language, much, Nik? Anyway, I was just fixing your tie. And what does that make me then? Hmm?" She gave him an angry look to be replaced with a smile within seconds to show she was only kidding, while thinking inwardly that his Scottish accent seemed to be popping up more and more lately. And she... liked it. But she could never tell him that... It'd be too weird. He was her best friend.
She turned her attention back to the conversation at hand and smiled when he mentioned the Common Room. "Yeah, you'll look better with me by your side." she said with a laugh, hoping he didn't take it the wrong way, even if she meant it, just a little bit. Okay, this was getting weird. Where was all this coming from? Honestly... this wasn't like her. "And you know you could look even better if you just...." She trailed off, tugging on his shirt until both sides were untucked, and tried to do something with his hair, but she was too short to reach. She huffed, giving up. "Well... it's a little better. At least your shirt isn't confused as to where it's put now.
She skipped off down the hall, then paused, looking back at him. "Well, are you coming or not?" [ooc; thought i'd make it spiffy 'n all ]

Nikko chuckled seeing Charlie stick her tongue out at him. It was childish and playful so, naturally, he liked it even if the bratty gesture had been directed at him- it was amusing. “I am tall.” He conceded. There was no denying that. Six foot two for a sixteen year old wasn’t the most common thing in the world but considering his father was six foot six, there was still a chance that Nikko would get even taller. He was comfortable with his current height though. He might not have been stacked like a brick house or anything but the muscles that he did have, however small, were defined, which he supposed, if the urge ever struck him, could make him the intimidating type. At the very least he towered over most students, a good majority of the teachers too, especially the chicks ones, one of which he had a forbidden druit kind of crush on.
He sighed blissfully, “I know right, isn’t it boss?” Nikko shifted Fritz in his arm to a more comfortable position for him. He definitely needed to put the cat on a diet, it weighed a god dang ton. “Makes you the pretty lass that makes me look good.” Assuring her his previous comment had been kosher- all on the up and up. Nikko gave her chin a gently nudge with a knuckle perking her up.
“Complimentary, you are.” He agreed vigorously laughing along with her. It was very rarely that Nikko took things to heart assuming, most of the time that any comment made was meant just as good naturedly as he meant everything that he said. It was only fair to operate that way and usually Nikko could feel the vibe of a person to tell whether they were being a wanker about something or just being playful. Charlie was giving off a playful vibe. “Fair enough, but mind you, I wasn’t thinking much about how I looked I just spent an eternity in the library, which by the way, I don’t recommend its stuffy and stinks like dusty auld books. Thought I was going to have a sneeze attack.” Her trying to reach for his hair had Nikko tipping his head back letting out a snicker.
While he had been doing that however, Charlie had started down the corridor and only when she called to him did he react double stepping it to catch up with her. Long stomping strides in comparison to her tiny little skipping steps, maybe four at most, was all that it took. “Actually I was contemplating standing in the hall all day- want to be one of those street performers that look like statues and then sudden break out doing The Robot when someone gets too close to them trying to figure out if it’s a real person or not.” Nikko was abusing the use of sarcasm by that point. Nikko's last comment had Charlie in a fit of giggles. God, how she missed laughing with him. She had forgotten how easy it was for him to make her laugh. It felt just like old times, Charlie loved it. She hoped every day could be like this. That'd be perfect.
She began to walk again, taking two or three steps for Nikko's one. She huffed, trying to speed up, but her short legs refused to do so.
All of a sudden, she had a strange feeling, and her hand shot up, hitting herself in the chest, repitively. "Ow, dammit!" she cried, trying to pull her hand off with her 'normal' arm, but to no avail. By now, she was stopped, helpless to her tourettes. It hurt, and she had never actually hurt herself through it. It scared her. Her eyes pleaded for Nikko to help her, somehow. She just wanted it to end.
She bit down on her lip hard to stop tears from flowing yet again. This just.... was not fun. She absolutely hated the syndrome; she hated she was a slave to it. Why couldn't she have been normal? Was that such a hard thing to ask for? Suddenly, she tasted something metallic. Blood. She had bit her lip so hard that it broke skin. Dandy. Wasn't this going smoothly?
"Damn it. Why does this happen to me, Nik? Why couldn't I be normal, like everyone else? I hate this.... This wasn't fair. Why did the stupid syndrome have to pick her? ooc; sorry it's short >.<

That laugh could brighten up anyone’s day and that was precisely what it had always done for him. Even when he wasn’t down just a single note of laughter had him grinning like a fool. Watching her try to keep up with his was amusing in the most juvenile of ways making his laughter turn into a stupid, short hiss of air being forced out between the small spaces between his teeth, barely them completely to her. Nikko was about to slow down for her when Charlie came to a stop the hollow sound of her hand hitting her chest rapidly pulling his attention to another one of her episodes. The smile on his face vanished quickly being replaced with concern, That had sounded painful.
“You alright?” Nikko asked on instinct. What a dumb thing to ask. If she had just said ow she bloody well wasn’t alright. It was the feeling of being helpless that had Nikko being so hard on himself. His hand reached out to touch Charlie’s cheek hoping, in a lame attempt, to give her what little comfort he could and get her to lighten up on her lips but his hand recoiled seeing that he was too late as a bead of blood pooled up on her plump lower lip blossoming out into her mouth but the beautiful structure of Charlie’s lips prevented the blood from trickling off of them. He found himself staring at her lips glancing up only when she spoke to him again.
“I don’t know why.” Nikko wished that he had some answer for her that would satisfy but he didn’t. “Are you kidding me though?” He was quick to try and say something, anything, to cheer her up again. “Seriously doll face, the majority of the world’s population ain’t normal. Besides normality is subjective to any given person. Just think, you could be a serial dog rapists and that could be what you consider normal.” Nikko didn’t want to make too much light of her condition, because it was serious, but maybe shine it in a different light for her. Charlie licked her lips, ridding her lips of the blood and scrunched up her nose in disgust as Nikko explained 'normal'. "Okay, you have a point." She took a tiny step forward, the episode finally ceased, and hugged Nik tight, her head barely reaching the top of his chest, if that. "Thank you..." Charlie whispered, looking up at him with her large brown eyes. She pulled away suddenly, realizing what this could look like to innocent passerby. Not that she would mind. Her eyes widened, she really did not just think that. She strode forward, hoping that Nik didn't see that. He probably did though. But knowing him, he wouldn't ask. And that was perfectly fine with Charlie.
"So, what were you in the library for?" She mentally slapped herself. Such a boring question. Why did she ask that, of all bloody things to ask? She pulled herself from her little internal battle, trying to focus on Nikko, but she drifted in and out, catching snippets from time to time. If Nikko noticed, Charlie couldn't tell.
What was up with this slight... crush... on him? So... weird. She'd had a boyfriend before, though it didn't last long. He was scared off by the tourettes and Charlie's anxiety issues. And though Nikko was only a friend, she didn't want it to repeat itself. Wait, why would she even think that? He was still here, right? He always had been. Nikko wasn't afraid. He wanted to help her. The thought alone brought a small smile to Charlie's lips. Wait.... hadn't he been staring at her lips earlier? She didn't miss much. Then again... she did have a bloody lip. That had to be why, right? He'd have no other reason, would he?

Nikko nodded his agreement, “and its rather sharp if I do say so myself.” Wrapping his free arm around her shoulder to return the embrace his chin came down to gently rest on the top of her head “You’re welcome of course.” He replied titling his head back so she wouldn’t conk herself with his chin. The abruptness that she had pulled away with did give him a wee inkling of what she was worried about, but Nikko could care less how people perceived him. That much was obvious by the way that he dressed-like some fifties greaser- and spoke, his opinions and his interests, or so he thought. If Charlie didn’t want to give anyone the wrong impression that was her business though, he wasn’t going to force her to be flippant about it like he was.
Following after her Nikko had half a mind to sling his arm around her shoulder, but didn’t considering she had pulled away from the hug, so instead shifted Fritz from one arm to the other as the arm his cat had been in was starting to go numb. “Cranking out all my homework finally. I figured that I couldn’t put it off any longer if I expected to get a grade for it.” He wasn’t too confident as to how high his marks would be but he had tried and that was all that Nikko ever asked of himself.
“I know, I know.” His free hand came up prematurely to sooth any astonishment from this stunning piece of information. Hell had frozen over, pigs could now fly, and Nikko… he had his homework all done up in a nice little bundle in his bag. “It’s amazing, one of those rare sightings that you can go back and tell the kids about one day.” Cracking a cheeky grin Nikko gave Charlie a light nudge with his elbow on her arm. “Where were you headed off to in such a rush? Hope it wasn’t anything important.” After all they were now going in the opposite direction of where she had been heading. Charlie was shaken from her thoughts and brought back to the present as Nikko bumped her arm softly. He must have said something funny, because he had that ever present cheeky smile on his face. "Kids? What kids? I thought you knew it was my secret to grow up and become a crazy cat lady, Mr. Linely!" she said sarcastically, grinning along with him.
"Where was I headed?" That was a good question. Charlie pondered it, trying to remember and honestly, she couldn't. When she had ran into him, all things were forgotten. But of course, she wouldn't tell him that. "I don't remember. I forgot when I ran into you." What the heck? She slapped a hand over her mouth, eyes wide. It had to be her tourette's, but a mild case. She never talked like that. She didn't do that, not ever. And Nikko couldn't take it as her being funny because of her overreaction afterwards. Now he had the tip of the iceberg. Oh no. This was not going to end well.
She stared at the floor, afraid to look at him. What would he say? Would he dismiss it, or even her and tell her to get lost? She didn't want that, not after they just made up... She didn't want to lose him so quickly; not again.

”Aye, of course.” Nikko shook his head in mock shame. “How could I have forgotten? Tell it to your cats then, I’m sure it will be massive entertainment for them while they are licking themselves.” Really though he thought that she would make an excellent mother. Charlie was so caring and giving, the love that she could show to a child would have definitely been the kind of thing the people wanted in a mother. She had that way about her that Nikko imagined, if the child fell and scraped their knee Charlie would be right there soothing and tender, a simple kiss would make that pain go away and in no time the kid would be beaming up at her with the unconditional love that children had for their parents. Nikko wasn’t sure why he had put so much thought into what Charlie would be like as a mother. Like most things, it had strolled right into his mind one day and he had followed it to see where it might take him.
At first Nikko wasn’t sure how to take Charlie’s reaction. If not for the quick hand over her mouth he could have just taken it as nothing more than a compliment and been done with it, but he couldn’t do that [/I]now[/I]. There had been that moment before, when she had hurriedly pulled away from his embrace, that he had wondered if something was… different about Charlie. Something had obviously changed about the way that she felt about him. It was just he wasn’t sure if it was for better or for worse. There was a decision to be made: how to handle this? Should he freak out over it, demand that Charlie tell him exactly what it was that was going on with her- or more accurately, them? No, that wasn’t Nikko’s way. Instead his smile widened and he nodded with mock superiority. “Yes, I can see how my presence could bewitch your mind, make you forget your intentions, all your senses go haywire, because I am just that awesome.” In a pompous gesture Nikko flicked the collar of his leather jacket upward on one side, his eyebrows waggling at Charlie. LOVE, GIVE ME LOVE, GIVE ME LOVEI DON'T NEED IT, BUT I'LL TAKE WHAT I WANT FROM YOUR HEART G I M M E M O R E G I M M E M O R E G I M M E M O R E “Yes, I can see how my presence could bewitch your mind, make you forget your intentions, all your senses go haywire, because I am just that awesome.”
Charlie shook her head, a small smile appearing on her lips. She deemed it safe to look up once again, and caught Nikko popping his collar. She snorted, yes, literally snorted at how arrogant he was trying to act. God, he was so odd. And the wiggling of the eyebrows; Nik was the only one Charlie knew that could perform that gesture, and in all honesty, it was quite entertaining.
“You are so odd, Nikko. But it’s okay, because you’re awesome sauce!” Interesting expression, but hey, Nikko had some interesting ones of his own. She blamed it on the Scottish blood in him. Not that she minded; it made for interesting conversation. Odd that they went from yelling in the corridor to laughing and joking like old times in mere minutes, though it simply showed how deep their friendship went.
Charlie quickened her pace as she went down some stairs, a mere habit as well as a tactic to keep up with Nikko that failed, miserably. She was still a few steps behind and double timed her walking pace to match his. Spinning around so Charlie faced Nikko, all the while walking backwards, she had a good view of his handsome face. Whoa, no, no, no. “So, Nikko, don’t let me trip and fall, okay? If I fall, you’re dead meat. And you’ll never know when it’s coming. You might just not wake up one morning, or eat a bad apple…” She winked. “Only joking. I’d be out a best friend if I did that.” She stumbled slightly, tripping over her foot, but quickly righted herself. “That was lucky…” she commented quietly. Curse her clumsiness.
“So, I have a question. Answer it honestly?” She bit down on her lip softly as she decided how to word her question without coming off… desperate.
“As a person, do you think I’m attractive?” she finally blurted. It was honestly something Charlie had been struggling with for a while. Her self-confidence was at an all time low, and she didn’t consider herself pretty or attractive in any way. And she figured the most honest opinion would come from someone she completely trusted. And that person was Nikko.
