Liyah smiled when he claimed that his grandmother was liable to dote on her. "Can't really say I would complain" she replied with a small laugh. Being doted on could be nice at least she pictured it to be a nice thing. She had never really been doted on by anyone before, in her own family she was just kinda there. It was easy to slip between the cracks in her family since there were eight kids. She was one of the middle kids and so was generally more ignored than the others. It seemed like that was how it was in most families. The oldest is the first born and therefore special, the youngest is the baby and therefore special, the middle kids are just there. Of course her family loved her and all, she just wasn't payed that much attention. It was all good though, she enjoyed her times alone for the most part.
Stake through the heart, holy water, crosses. I have to wonder if every way to kill a mythical creature is actually accurate. I mean I don't have any issues with crosses, but not sure if a full vampire would. It is an interesting thought really" she replied wondering. She wasn't about to find out about the holy water or anything else because if it was true she didn't want to cause herself any pain. Maybe she would ask another vampire or something, or maybe her eldest sister, Angelica, might know. Nonetheless in the end Aaliyah was happy that she was only half vampire, being a full vampire would be even more annoying in her opinion.
When Dom said he was sorry for what had happened and that he was glad she had trusted him she simply shrugged. This was her closing off again, she had opened up to him for a moment but her walls were moving back into their rightful places. "I just felt like I should tell someone, it is in the past though. Probably something I should let go of" she added trying to brush the subject aside. She wasn't sure why she did stuff like this, tried to act like nothing was wrong, part of her defense mechanisms she supposed. It was something that happened automatically when she was feeling vulnerable and right now she felt extremely vulnerable. She moved her head off his shoulder and let her eyes meet his for a moment. If anyone could help her fix herself if would probably be him. He was just that type of guy that had that affect on people. Liyah felt like confessing to him more but didn't, one thing was enough.

Dominic was positive that every myth that went along with vampires, being or other creatures of the wizarding world that muggles had weren’t correct. There were nuggets of truth of course, but it was sorting out what was real from what wasn’t that often proved to be the problem. Experimentation, for Aaliyah would be the only way to fully know what did and did not affect her. And as she had already mentioned there were sure to be discrepancies between full and half vampires. “I read that the only way crosses have any power is if they person wielding it is of religious origin, but there is also lore that vampires can not cross any body of water that has a current and that isn’t true now is it?” It was natural of her to have questions about herself, that was normal for any teenager, whether they were as special as she was or not. It came with the territory of self-discovery. “If it interests you though I would suggest seeking information. You never know when it may prove to be useful.” The first person that Dominic would have suggested would have been her father but Aaliyah would know who she was most comfortable with speaking to this about than he would.
It didn’t take her long to close him off again. The habit would be a hard one to kick, but he was patient, always had been. Dominic’s greatest strength probably was the fact that he had immense tolerance. That made it easier for him to deal with troubled people. Even the kindest of people wouldn’t be able to deal with the things he did if they didn’t have the fortitude to stick through till the end. Sometimes that meant putting yourself in danger too but Aaliyah was worth it, just as Galen had been. It wasn’t really his place to go questioning her decisions. If Aaliyah wanted to put something in the past then it was her right to do so, but wasn’t it also his duty as, since they had made it official, her friend to try to help her through difficult times, whether she liked it or not?
“You could do that.” Dominic conceded not forcing her back into his embrace. Personal space was always granted. Sweeping things under the rug was never the best approach if the person expected to come to terms with the issue at hand it was simply a quick fix- nothing more than a bandaid. Eventually Aaliyah would trip over the lump that she had created under the proverbial rug. “But by letting go do you mean forgetting it ever happened, or working towards amends?” A reconciliation with her father was the most likely course of action to let it go. Even if Aaliyah had to be the one to initiate things, which could be scary especially given her circumstances, it still, in his opinion, needed to be done, or at least attempted.

Liyah nodded in agreement towards him "I think I probably will do some research. Probably see what I can find out on my own and then go from there and maybe talk to some people. It might be useful information sometime in the future" she replied with a smile. Part of it was finding out more about herself, self discovery and all that jazz but the other part of it was knowing exactly what she should fear and what she shouldn't. It wasn't that she felt anyone was out to get her but it would be nice to know what she could and couldn't be around because of what she was.
Liyah turned away from him slightly starting to play with a flower growing out of some moss on the edge of the rock. It was hard for her to sit down and talk about feelings and secrets, generally she just kept everything to herself. For some reason she had let slip to Dom and now she knew that she couldn't just pretend everything was dandy. "I don't know" she mumbled softly plucking at the petals. "I know I need to be the bigger person and set things right but I just don't have the will to do it right now" she replied with a sigh tossing the petals to the ground and watching them flutter down softly and slowly. While half of her told her that Dominic was right the other half refused stubbornly and wanted to brush it back under the rug, a place it had been for years already. But Liyah knew that someday things would have to be brought up again or else it would only fester and get worse, at least for her in her own mind.
In the back of her mind Liyah wondered why Dominic cared so much about fixing families. It didn't really bother her that he was trying to help, she knew he was right she just didn't want to accept that right now, it was just interesting to her. He had tried to make things right between her and her brother and now he was doing the same with her and her father. The more Liyah thought about the more she thought that maybe instead of expecting the other people to fix themselves she needed to fix herself. If her family life was that broken then maybe she was doing something wrong. Thinking about Dominic fixing her family ties made her remember the night Dom had kissed her on a dare and also kissed her sister. She wondered why he had chosen her over Angel, Liyah looked up to Angel as the perfect person that she herself would never be. "This may be out of line but why me? Why not Angel?" she asked figuring he would know what she was talking about.

Dom was glad that Aaliyah seemed receptive to the idea. It was always a good idea to learn your limit, but it was especially smart when you were in the situation that she was. Having the potential to hurt people and not wanting to, that was a guilt that she certainly didn’t need on her conscience. He couldn’t even begin to imagine what that must be like. The pressure alone had to be over whelming. It was enough to make her aversion to being overly friendly understandable, but Dominic hated to think that who she was happened to be the reason that Aaliyah was holding herself back. As cliché as it might have been, in her case, knowledge really was power. “It would be.” Dom agreed offering her a kindly smile.
She seemed to be pushing him away again. Given the subject that they were harping on it was no wonder as to why. Dominic had probably just stirred up the worries that were already so predominant in her mind- the ever-present concerns being kicked up by a whirlwind of prodding on his part. Making Aaliyah uneasy even in the slightest sense didn’t sit well with him. He hated to see her in any form of distress. Whether that was because he was such a nice guy or something more remained but a mystery to him, but the fact remained the same; Dominic cared deeply about Aaliyah. “Taking the high road is never an easy thing to do. The only way that you can travel upon it is when you are ready. Your time may not be infinite, but you still have time enough to make certain it is something that you want and are prepared to face.” Dealing with her father was tricky business. If he hadn’t brought up the fact that he had hit her afterward then there was a good chance that he would be upset if she did. It allowed the fear factor to weasel its way into the equation.
He couldn’t blame Aaliyah for being curious. Angelica was a beautiful young lady, she had grace, charisma, wit, everything that would be more than enough to allure many of men, but Dominic had in fact kissed Aaliyah first. His mind had prioritized Aaliyah above Angelica, something that scarcely happened in Aaliyah’s life he was sure. As to why he had done so though, it took him a moment to figure it out himself. All the beauty, grace, charm, and wit that he saw in Angelica was tenfold in Aaliyah for him. “Instinct.” The simple answer was hardly enough to be suitable for a mind as insatiable as hers though. “When Galen dared me to kiss the both of you I naturally wanted to go to you first. Aaliyah, I fear I am about to overstep my bounds here and for that I apologize, but, you have such a magnetism about you. You hardly know the effect that it can have on people, specifically the effect that it has on me.” He had admired her from a far for many years, but he was a young man of great appreciation of all things of beauty, whether it be inner or outer. There wasn’t much thought put into it that there was something more, until the night that he had kissed her.

Liyah's fear of harming a human had reduced significantly over the years, but it was still there of course. There was always the temptation, even now. Despite only being half vampire, blood still called to her but that was one call she chose to ignore as best she could. Slipping up wasn't an option for her, not after going so long without the taste of human blood on her lips. It made it harder when there were some people that wanted to be bitten, some people that asked for that to happen. Those people were harder to resist but she still did and had done it for years. That didn't change what she was or who she was really, the monster was still there, her human side was just able to overcome it. Vampires weren't exactly terrible, sure some were and some weren't, but they did crave their natural food source no matter how controlled they were. What you did with that craving was dependent on the vampire. Most of her family drank human blood and while it disgusted her she didn't try to stop them. That was their choice. It made it easier because Dominic was so accepting of her, and she had the feeling that he would be no matter what she decided as long as it wasn't something terrible.
"Someday things will be better, maybe that day isn't today or next week but someday I am they will be. Whether I forgive or chose to forget I haven't decided but only time will tell in my case" she replied with a soft sigh tossing the stem of the flower aside and turning her body back towards him slightly. He was right, she knew it. It had to be her decision to take the high road, it wasn't something that anyone else could make her do and it wasn't something she could do unless she really wanted to otherwise it wouldn't turn out right anyway. Fixing an issue such as hers would require her to be willing and for her father to be willing as well. It couldn't be one sided or else nothing would ever get solved. All she knew was that she wasn't going to live her life in fear of him, she was determined of that.
When the conversation got brought back to them, something Aaliyah hadn't really thought of fully before asking about, she looked at him intently. She wanted to hear what he had to say, she was dreadfully curious to say the least. When she heard his response she felt warmer inside and a light flush came to her cheeks and she looked down. "Thank you, it's nice to come first for once" she replied in a soft tone before bringing her eyes back to his. She knew he wouldn't lie to her, he couldn't lie to her. It was nice to know that someone actually valued her above one of her family members in one way or another. Ever since Dominic had started coming around she had taken an interest in him, never really thinking much of it until she had started seeing him more and more often. She figured it was nothing but a school girl crush though. Knowing that he returned her feelings made her feel special. "Don't be sorry" she added "I know what you mean, ever since you became friends with my brother I was drawn to you. Of course I would have never said anything."

Therein laid their dilemma. The fact that neither one of them would have said anything and yet, they both just had. Repressing feelings was a matter of… acceptability, but venturing into another’s territory wasn’t. Aaliyah was not to be owned by anyone, never would Dominic have so much thought a thing, but that didn’t mean that, in a way, he was now in his best friend’s territory. Family was a very important thing to him. He knew how fragile it was, how easy it could be lost and one’s appreciation for what they currently had was a necessity in his eyes. It was the reason that he was so keen to help the D’eath’s reconnect in a more cordial manner. Now that their feelings were out in the open it meant that Dominic would have to speak with Galen sooner rather than later.
It wouldn’t have been fair to put it off for too long. This was what Dominic was apologizing for, the bounds that he had overstepped. Aaliyah had asked for it though. Both were going to have to deal with waiting. Dom did want to pursue Aaliyah. Getting to know her on a romantic level would prove to be different than being friends with her. Perhaps it would have been best to establish a better rapport with her as a friend before moving into anything more but that time had passed. Curiosity was a dangerous thing to dive in to.
“I plan to speak with Galen at the soonest time in which he is available.” The statement, formal as it might have seemed, was necessary. He was a gentleman through and through and with that came a certain code that he was keen to stick with. He did wonder if it might make him seem cold toward Aaliyah though. Heartfelt as Dominic was that wasn’t acceptable for this sort of thing, not until business was taken care of. It could be considered one of his flaws, the fact that business mixed with pleasure in these instances. “How do you think he will fair with the news?” To be fair Aaliyah had known Galen longer and was more in tune with how he had reacted in the past when it came to suitors and his sisters. If Dominic had to guess from his own experience… Galen was going to harass him about liking Aaliyah, make him squirm a little bit before giving his consent. Dominic was prepared to endure whatever Galen cooked up for him though. He had a feeling that Aaliyah was more than worth it.

Aaliyah nodded and waved her hand a little "Don't worry I am not trying to pressure you into talking to him right away. Do it whenever you feel the time is right, better not to rush sensitive subjects with him" she replied with a smile. She didn't want Dom to feel like all she cared about was getting with him, she wanted to get to know him as well. This was one time that she didn't want to rush into things because she really wanted things to work out. Dom was the first person she really cared about making things go well with and so she planned to do things right. Get to know him first and worry about other things later.
"With Galen it is hard to tell how he might take the news. I think it all depends on his mood during the time you ask him. I would ask when he is in a good mood. He will probably give you a hard time, make fun of you or something cause that is just how he is. But if he makes fun of you that means it won't bother him, if he is serious then I would be worried" she replied knowing that with her brother things could really go either way. If Galen was in a good mood then he would probably be happy that his sister was being pursued by someone as great as Dom, but if he was in a bad mood then he would be mad that his best friend was going for his sister. Liyah was hoping for the former of the two options but even she had no way of knowing for sure. Time would tell.
Aaliyah glanced down at her phone which told her it was getting late and she still had some homework to finish. With a sad look that quickly was hidden she glanced back at Dom. "Well it seems our time today has come to and end. It was really great being able to talk to you though, you really helped clear some things up in my mind" she replied getting up from the position she had been sitting in. "Till we meet again" she replied with a smile and pulled a necklace that had her family crest on it off of her neck "A keepsake" she added and handed it to him before turning to head off back to the school. She hoped she would see Dom again soon. She enjoyed his company greatly.
