Before the semester began, the store was filled with students seeking to drive their teachers mad with tricks and pranks, now made possible with only the loss of a few Sickles or Galleons. It was often there were one or two would-be thieves or "borrowers" on a day-to-day basis to liven things up. However, with most of the store's clientele gone to school, only the few adult jokesters would come in and peruse the wares. Sometimes, there were people searching voraciously for the Peruvian Instant Darkness powder or some shield gloves, but not often. Instead, now a few people surveyed the shelves, sometimes with handling the merchandise with great care, but it was nowhere near the crowds of the summer or winter, when students flooded the store in full force.
Now, Elisabeth spent most of her time rearranging shelves, cleaning aisles, and restocking merchandise. It was usually a quick succession of busy nothing at the Weasley Wizards' Wheezes when the students were in school, and Elisabeth was not sure which she preferred more, the slump during the semester, or the business during the breaks from school. As Elisabeth began to rearrange some boxes of Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder (someone had come along and taken one from the bottom, causing the tower to collapse), she wondered how long she would be at the store, working this job that wasn't going to take her anywhere but where she was.
But in the contrary nature of Elisabeth, she immediately shied away from the thought of the future, of what she would do with her life, as she forced herself to focus on the task at hand. She wondered for a moment why she bothered thinking of the future, anyway. Nothing mattered more than the present.
As Elisabeth straightened from her task, she sighed at the sight of a spilt drink further down the aisle. At least cleaning this would be easier than what she had just done. With a flick of her wand, the floor dried and the drink cup floated up to her hand. As she walked back to the counter, Elisabeth flicked her wand again, Vanishing the cup.
She leaned forward, resting her cheek in her hand, wondering when the next customer would come in, rescuing her from her boredom.

Even as a child George had been quite the prankster and loved to get laughs from others. When he had first opened the shop his mother hadn’t been convinced but they had proven her wrong. The shop was mostly successful even though there were slow periods.
George hated the slow periods and although it gave him more time to come up with new products, sometimes it could be quite boring. Right now was one of those slow periods and it was beginning to drive him crazy. Before school started the shop would be filled with students returning to Hogwarts gathering up their last minute pranks before starting the new year. Sure there were some adult wizards who came in from time to time during the rest of the year but most adult wizards or witches were busy with work- with little time for pranking in between. While he hated to call his job boring his ideas hadn’t been flowing freely as they used to. Hopefully this would pass and there would be a bunch of great new products the next time the Hogwarts students got a chance to come to the shop.
Having spent the last fifteen minutes staring at his notes in front of him he decided it was time to peek out into the front room and see if Elisabeth needed any help. Or maybe she could take a break or something. It wasn’t as if they were really busy or anything right now. The few customers they might get would be more than enough for George to handle and then maybe by the time the end of the day came he could get some energy to work on the newest product. Rising from his bench he stretched and entered the front of the shop. ”Anything you need help with Elisabeth?” There were hardly anyone else in the shop but he had to ask. He couldn’t take another second alone in the back room. He might end up going mad.
