Layton stretched his arms above his head from his slightly awkward sitting position. He yawned slightly, having woken up only a few hours ago, because it was a Saturday. Most days, he didn't like getting up in the morning, being more of a night owl. Layton cracked a soft smile in the afternoon sunlight, soaking up the sun's rays, just enjoying his time outside.
Leaning to his left, he picked up his acoustic guitar, plucking at a few strings, and winced at the sound emitting from it. Ouch. He fiddled with the knobs, running his slightly calloused fingers over the frets, out of habit. When the guitar was tuned just right, Layton let his fingers flow, creating a beautiful melody he had written up a week ago. He was still experimenting with it, and hadn't gotten anyone's opinion just yet, so he was a little wary to let anyone listen in.
Layton let his mind wander, taking in his surroundings. His flaming hair extended towards the sun, in all different directions, and his green eyes sparkled, a laugh hidden there. The clouds were pure white and fluffy, against a beautiful blue sky, a few birds breaking the serenity of the moment every now and again.
He was shaken from his observances as he heard footsteps close by. His playing stopped immediately, as he wasn't too keen to let anyone listen. His eyes shot in the direction, his senses on high alert. For what reason, he wasn't sure, it was just instinct, he supposed. Though it didn't quite make sense; he was never this jumpy.
He saw dark curls invade his vision. Jos? he wondered, and spoke his question aloud. "Hey, Jos, is that you?" Part of him wished it was; he hadn't seen his friend in a while, despite being in the same house.
