Neville remembered his days as a student taking N.E.W.T. Herbology. He enjoyed in his sixth year, however in his seventh year he was saddened that he didn’t really get a chance to go to the class because of the war. But now he got to teach the class, which was a lot better than taking the class, at least that was what he thought. Herbology is his passion, something he discovered at such a young age and he was glad to stick with it to eventually become the professor. Now it was his turn to show the students why they were right in taking the Herbology class.
He hoped that the students would enjoy the class today as he gathered up different types of woods and laid them in a line across his table before taking some and laying them on the students’ tables as well. He knew that some students would perhaps think of either joining in with making wands in the future, or even want to make racing brooms, but even then with those who didn’t want to make either or perhaps the would be interested to know what each of the materials meant when it came to their wands.
Once he had everything laid out he went back to the front table and watched the door as he waited for students to enter the number five green house, which was a greenhouse he had added when he became a professor to house the many different trees for students to see what the different materials are for wand making. There were several different greenhouses that he added actually, but those will be revealed in another lesson.
(( This is October's lesson and will go until the end of the RP month of October. I do hope you all enjoy it! ))

Squish, Squish, Squishwas the sound coming from Shailene's shoes as she made her way across the grassy field to the number five green house for her herbology lesson. It had been raining all morning and still hadn't stopped. Although Shailene was grateful the hard rain had stopped. Her polka dotted bag was held up over her head protecting her hair and uniform from the rain. She really didn't want to be soaked by the time she got to class, she hated staying in wet clothes.
Shailene rushed into the classroom closing the door behind her to escape the wetness outside. Her polka dotted bag was very wet. She placed her bag on the table to check inside glad that it's contents were still dry. "Such a nice day to talk a walk, wouldn't you say Professor Longbottom." She said with a smile, fingering combing her hair to restore order. "How are you today?" She asked. She as she was the first to arrive she thought she chat with the Professor to kill time. Shailene got along with all the professor and enjoyed talking with all of them whenever she could. They knew so much and she wanted to learn so much.
Shailene glanced down at the table noticing the wood in front of her. She couldn't really tell the different woods apart but she knew they differed due to their colors and texture. "Wood?" She questioned out loud though not really expecting an answer knowing that Professor Longbottom would just have to repeat himself to the other students.

“Fuckin' rain...fuckity fuck fuck...” muttered a very annoyed Hughes as he made his way across the field to the greenhouses. It was bad enough that he caught a cold while trying to adjust to England's cooler climate. With the rain, it looked like Hughes' case of the sniffles was going to last him at least another week. In a vain attempt to escape what seemed to be torrents, he started a slight jog across the field, only to find out that he was slowed down by the mud. When the door was in plain sight, Hughes broke out into a sprint towards it, which flung mud onto the bottom of his robes.
A loud sigh of relief could be heard as the greenhouse door opened. Hughes shut the door behind him and proceeded to wipe the water off of his glasses. “I'm like a durn wet dog...” he muttered as he walked deeper into the classroom. Once again, he was one of the first students to arrive as there were only the professor, another student, and himself in the greenhouse. He recognized the girl as being from his Care of Magical Creatures class and let out a friendly, “Howdy” towards her before placing his bag down.
When he looked up again, Hughes thought he saw one of the most handsome men ever. Of course, there were many whom he considered “The Most Handsome Ever,” but Damn!, he thought. He's hot... He caught himself staring about three seconds too late and let out a rather quiet, “Good mornin', Professor. Lovely weather we're havin' eh? Least it'll be good fer the plants out there.” He forced a wry smile, then looked down at the wood on the table to avoid further eye contact. Hughes cursed at himself for being so awkward and so obvious. It was one thing to be attracted to his fellow classmates; he could handle that. Having feelings for a teacher though, even in the slightest, was a whole 'nother ball game for him.

With a very loud, shrill laugh, Poppy Longbottom entered the rain falling outside from the shelter of the school. Poppy loved the rain. It was so refreshing and made the greatest sounds, and jumping in puddles wasn’t so bad either. Maybe she was childish, but she still loved doing simple things like that, even if she ended up soaked to the bone, it was usually worth it. After all, it would only take a quick drying spell to fix, or she could simply wait for her clothes and hair to dry naturally, it wasn’t all that bad of a feeling. But one thing that Poppy couldn’t stand was wet feet, so she toed off her shoes and pulled off her socks before running off into the grass, feeling it squish and squelch under her toes.
She didn’t run as fast as the others did, she didn’t have an umbrella to protect her, nor was she using her school bag, which was secure on her back. The incredulous looks people gave her made her laugh, and she convinced a few other people to at least let down their shields and enjoy it a bit, even if they didn’t want to remove their socks and shoes. Everyone should have the chance to play in the rain at least once; the chance to feel it splatter against their skin and spritz on their face.
She was more than a little disappointed when she finally reached the greenhouses; she’d been enjoying herself. With a frown, she pulled open the greenhouse door, suddenly hit by the humidity that made her clothes cling even more. Well, that was going to be uncomfortable. She waved at the other students that had arrived before trumping to one edge of the class, her feet making muffled thumping noises on the ground as she went. “Hey Daddy,” she greeted, finding a watering can and filling it with water before using it to rinse the grass and dirt stuck to her feet.

Rose left the Great Hall with her schoolbag at her side. Outside it was very clearly raining but she didn't much care. At least it was better than snow. Sure it was wetter but it often wasn't as bad or cold. Still she had put some hair product to keep her hair from getting frizzy an she didn't want it to get all wet and washed out. Rose didn't have an umbrella and she hated using her bag and getting her parchment all wet. So she would have to just settle for running as fast as she could. Making sure her bag was stuck to her side pretty good she began to ran down to greenhouse number five, where the lesson was to be. Along the way she was sure she saw Poppy Longbottom in front of her playing in the rain.
Finally she reached the greenhouse and used a drying spell before entering. Inside she saw a few students, Hufflepuffs mostly, and the professor. Professor Longbottom had gone to Hogwarts with her parents and she liked him well enough. He was a great professor. "Morning Professor." Rose noticed the tables with the wood laid out but she decided not to question the professor just yet. After all Professor Longbottom had yet to ever teach a boring or unuseful class. Still there was a lot of time yet before the class was to begin and Rose didn't want to be bored the entire time. Hopefully a few more people she knew well would show up and they could all chat before the lesson began.

Walking in the rain didnt bother Cade, he didnt mind the rain, though it was cold, it was somewhat refreshing, none the less, his pace was quick, he didnt want to be late to this lesson, herebology was one of the classes at Hogwarts he enjoyed most. But, he hated to be late to any class, something he loathed when all he wanted was a sleep in, just like today, it had been an inner struggle to roll out of bed and head to breakfast, but he had gotten over it in the forst few lessons, and no it came to herboology.
He walked into the classroom, and saw he wasnt the last student to arrive, but he wasnt the first either. Straight away he saw his little sister Shailene sitting at a desk and he walked over to the same desk she was sitting at, he looked around and offered a smile to the two other girls in the room, he knew them of course, but he hadnt seen his sister in a few days, so he wanted to talk to her. He nodded to the guy sitting at one of the desks and then looked at the front of the class. "Morning Proffesser"
Going to sit in one of the seats at the same desk as his sieter his eyes went to the wood, he heard her speak and laughed lightly. "Well, we have something in common with the lesson then" He said lightly. He was talking about their last name, said as it was, was Wood. He picked up a random piece of wood and grinned. "oooh .. think we're making wooden boats? . . boat races . . there's an ocean outside" He said jokingly, it felt like he had been walking through an ocean of water outside.

"Protego totalum." Zmeyette said as she pointed her wand at her school bag as she stood in the entrance of the school. It was pouring outside and although Zmeyette enjoyed the rain she did not want to have to dry her books once she arrived to herbology. So she casted a small protection charm on her school items and headed into the downpour. The cold rain splashed against her skin, sending goosebumps down her body, but to Zmeyette it felt wondrous. She loved the rain. The smell, feel, and sound of it. To her rain was an amazing one thing that could calm her down.
As she crossed the field to the green house her feet kept sinking into the soft ground causing mud to get all over her shoes. She didn't mind much since she could clean them later. As Zmeyette made her way to class, she was passed by quite a few people rushing to get out of the storm. Some hufflepuff appeared to be dancing in the rain.
Zmeyette's clothes were soaked and her long black hair was a mess by the time she finally entered the green house for today's lesson. Being the only Slytherin in the room as of now, Zmeyette felt grossed out being so close with everyone else with none of her own kind around. Quietly she took a seat in the back, releasing the charm on her school bag before placing it on top of the table. Scanning her mismatched eyes across the room, she noticed everyone had wood sitting in front of them. Great today was going to be a boring class. She thought before she decided to put her head down.

theia huffed in annoyance as she walked through the rain. it was really going to mess with her hair. she would have reached for her wand and sorted something out, but that was far to much effort seeing as she'd shoved her wand into the recessed of her bag, and her bag was pretty much velcro'd to her side right now. she mumbled something unintellagble but otherwise just gave up complaining and just kept on heading to the greenhouse.
she wasn't the first or last to enter, not that it really mattered to her anyway, but she noticed how there was noone she really cared enough about to sit with. damn. frowning, theia simply moved over to the table and took up her own space - perhaps someone she knew and actually liked might care to turn up eventually. if not then .. well she would deal with that possibility later. for now she simply flicked her now drying curled hair over her shoulder and peered at what it looked like they'd be dealing with today. wood. oh how terribly exciting... not.

lyra squealed slightly in surprise as she exited the castle and walked straight out into the rain. she hadn't known it was raining, and damn.. now her hair was going to go all .. frizz. well, it was never too bad - it tended to just curl a little, but it got a little too annoyingly poofy for lyra's liking. ah well, too late now. lyra headed through the rain to greenhouse five a little reluctantly. she didn't really know why she'd chosen to continue with herbology, she wasn't really a plant person.
pausing just under the shelter of the greenhouse roof, lyra pulled out her wand to dry her clothes and hair, thankful for the handy little spell, before she entered the greenhouse. she didn't really know any of the fellow students, noting a few fellow huffelpuffs, a couple of gryffindors and a couple of slytherins - and one lone ravenclaw. lyra figured that seeing as she didn't know any of the huffie's personally, she'd just go over toward the lone ravenclaw and stand around there. putting her bag down and shoving it under the table with the toe of her shoe she glanced at the ravenclaw. " hey there.." she said quietly, branching out, friendly as always.

roxy grinned as she ran through the rain, laughing slightly in the fun of it. it had been far too long since she'd sprinted through the rain, crossing the grounds quickly as she headed for greenhouse five. she loved herbology - learning about all the plants, their uses and how to care for them. she found it really interesting, and so she'd worked hard in herbology over the years to get a good grade, and she'd made it - managed to get into the newt class.
she opened the classroom door and headed inside, pausing to see that there were actually quite a few people already here. she hadn't figured she was late, then again she hadn't exactly hurried - well, not until the rain anyway. roxy ran a hand through her damp hair, shaking it out slightly and brushing it back over her shoulder and noting who was in the class. her eyes immediatly flickered to cade and she grinned lightly, making a beeline for him and moving to stand beside him. "hey cade," she said lightly, glancing at the wood and grinning at him. "looks like we'll be studying your name's sake." she teased gently, eager for the lesson to start.

She was looking forward the the herbology class. She loved the different plants and uses for them. It was always fascinating. She had her died black hair tied in a bun, an odd look for her. She really did not want to deal with the rain at that moment. At least it wasn't raining that hard anymore.
In truth she loved the rain but after a slight cold, rain was not the best thing in the world. She quietly strolled into the greenhouse. She looked around at the wood that was placed on the tables. She smiled, wondering exactly what the lesson would be. "Good day professor" She stated as she stood slightly off from the others in the room. Even if she liked the class, that did not mean she had to interact with the other students around her.

Hughes' eyes were darting from the wood on the table to Professor Longbottom every few seconds or so. The weather was still cold, but he was feeling kind of warm. Either he was lovesick, or he had an oncoming fever from the cold. A voice calling out to him yanked him out of his thoughts. He was about to answer the Hufflepuff when suddenly... “Ah...ah...ACHOO!” Hughes had procured a piece of tissue from his robes and covered his nose just in time before he sprayed all over the wood on the table. “ACHOO! Goddammit... ACHOO!” After the sneezing finally subsided, he turned away and blew his nose long and hard. Finally the soiled ball of paper went back into his robe and he turned towards Lyra.
“Howdy, miss,” he greeted. “How are you doin'?” Despite his sickness, Hughes managed to greet her with his usual smile and be a chatterbox. Finally there was someone to distract him from Longbottom, and maybe a chance for him to get to know someone in this new school. “I see yer farin' better in the rain than I am. I jus' haven't gotten used to the weather in England yet. I came all the way from Tennessee.” He fell silent for a minute and then remembered to introduce himself. “Oh my name's Hughes, by the way. Hughes Bromden. I'd shake yer hand...but er I don't think you'd want me to.” Hughes grinned at Lyra as he kept his hands inside his pocket.

Neville nodded to his students as they entered in one by one, each of them seemed to have different opinions to the weather. He could tell which ones liked the rain and which ones didn’t. Neville of course, loved the rain. It was perfect for the garden outside and rainwater was better than magical watering the plants. That was one of the reasons why each greenhouse had a chimney like tube at the top of them leading down to a huge trough at the end of each greenhouse to collect rainwater so that he could use it on his plants.
When he felt that most of the students were there he decided to begin the class. Those who were late would have to be filled in by one of the other students; it was their fault for being late after all. “Alright class, I know many of you are wondering why you have all sorts of branches on the tables in front of you. And sorry Mr. Wood, they aren’t for making boats,” he chuckled lightly. Why would he have the students make boats anyways?
He pulled out his wand and held it before his class to show them. “Now this here is my wand. It’s made out of cherry wood with a strand of unicorn hair. Now I’m sure all of you know that each of your wands are different. That is why you have different woods before you so you can see each of the types used in wands. Does anyone here have an idea on why a certain wood would choose a person?” he asked the class, he would of course give house points to the first student to answer his question.

As each student entered it was easy to tell who enjoyed the rain and who despised it, although some took an indifferent route, with most it was either or. Shailene was quite amused watching all the various expression that were caused by the weather. After a few minutes she didn't really know anyone until she was joined at the table by her older brother Cade. She laughed lightly at his joke about how they had something in common with the lesson for today. Cade always made Shailene laugh when they were growing up. Whenever she happened to be feeling down about anything her big brother would come and cheer her up. She loved her dearly for that and just always being there for her. She knew no harm would come to her while Cade was around. "That would be a rather interesting class. We should make pirate ships." She said laughing at the sound of that scenario. She knew it was quite improbable that they would be making boats but Shailene was well aware that Cade was only joking.
Cade and Shailene were soon joined by another girl that Shailene wasn't all that familiar with but she obviously knew her brother. "Hi I'm Shailene." She said to the pretty girl.
Professor Longbottom was now speaking and taking the attention of the students off each other and on to him. Shailene gave a smile toward her brother when Professor Longbottom spoiled his fun. He began to explain the reason as to why they were all staring at wood. He spoke of his own wand and asked why might a certain type of wood choose a wizard or witch while buying their wands. Shailene popped her hand in the air before stating, "I think it might have to do with a person's personality or connection to the wood. Sort of how muggles are assigned an astrological sign for the month they were born in and their personalities seem to reflect the given sign." She wasn't sure if she was right but it was worth a shot.

Neville looked out to the class as he waited for someone to answer his question. He noticed that some of them were chattering a bit. He didn’t mind as they weren’t too loud, but he would get annoyed if all they did was chatter instead of paying attention. But it was just the start of class after all. But then the class seemed to fall silent for a moment. He hoped that meant they were thinking about answering his question.
“I think it might have to do with a person's personality or connection to the wood. Sort of how muggles are assigned an astrological sign for the month they were born in and their personalities seem to reflect the given sign.” Neville smiled at her as he placed his wand in the pocket of his robes. “Correct Miss Wood. Ten points to Hufflepuff,” he said before turning to the rest of the class again. “As Miss Wood said, each wood corresponds with the person in a way an astrology sign would. The meanings of each wood actually came from the Celtics, but they give a very close meaning to it. If you were to look up the Celtic Wood meanings most of will see the similarities between the meaning of your wood and your personality. Some of you may not, as it doesn’t always work that way. But then again it could be close to you, just the Celtics might not have picked that part out about you,” he chuckled lightly before walking over to the board and writing Celtic Wood meanings is similar to astrology signs.
He then turned to look at the class once more. “Alright, now for the time being I would like you all to open up your books to the section about wand woods and look at the pieces of wood before you to see what each of their meanings are. Perhaps you’ll be able to figure out why your wand chose you when it comes to the wood of your wand. If you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask,” he chuckled lightly before he began to walk around the classroom watching as students scurried to get their books open and started reading. He was sure many of them would chatter about other things as well, but that was just how teenagers were.
