The library seemed to sigh as a fresh rush of students entered its confines. Evander paused to watch as the second years bustled about, struggling to find a seat where they could study or research and still giggle undisturbed. He smiled faintly, shifting the armful of books that he was shelving. Sometimes during his free period he would come here and help out the Madame Pince, replacing returned books or shining the covers of some of the more esteemed ones. He enjoyed this little chore. The library was quiet, gentle. Not like the Great Hall that always seemed at a constant roar, or beside the lake where puffed up boys try to impressed silky girls. A blush spread across Evander's face as just the thought of such flirtations crossed his mind. He cleared his throat, and moved down the shelf.
Here he placed a book titled A Hundred and One Spells for Self Defense. It was a popular one, as the many dog eared pages and the hardly-there back cover seemed to suggest. Evander had read it cover to cover twice, though he knew he'd never really have the courage to raise his wand if he were attacked. He bit his lip, recalling just the other day when he escaped from a scuffle with a bleeding brow and a black eye. The eye had turned to a mottled yellow and purple now, and the swelling had gone down considerably, but he was still overwhelmed with shame every time he glanced in the mirror. But then again, what else was new?
"Ah! Sh-shoot," Evander fumbled, juggling the half dozen books in his arm as he stumbled in to an aisle. They tumbled from his arms, falling with several thumps to the library floor. He flushed deeply, dropping down and scrabbling to pick them up, hoping that none had seen his undignified mistake. [/blockquote]

Whatever her reason Alaya found herself in the back section of the library away from the tabled that were filling with students trying to accomplish some work that day. She held a couple of books in her hand as she looked for another. One of them was on myths about magical creatures, an ironic book for her. The other was an advance book on ancient ruins. She was scanning the shelves for another book. She wasn't necessarily looking for anything specific. She just loved reading. Sure she was an average student but that was just because she never really applied herself. She did love reading and learning. She knew if she bothered with her school studies she would be among the top students in her classes.
She walked down an isle where she noticed someone putting books back in their place. It was Evander, another six year. She never talked to the ravenclaw even though they had been in classes together. It wasn't surprising knowing her anti-social nature. She was about to turn around and head down another isle when she noticed the books fall. She contmplated for a moment about helping him. Sighing to herself she walked over to the boy.
Kneeling down she started to pick up some of the books. She didn't say anything as she gathered a few. She stood with four new books in her arms. "You want some help putting these away?" She asked. It was not something she did often but she did know where most of the books went. So really, why not offer her help. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • F O R . Evander nearly jumped out of his skin when the girl spoke. He jerked upright, flushing yet again. Why did he have to be such a clutz? The girl was pretty too, which didn't help his sudden inability to speak. After a moment he recognized her as Alaya Tiaun, a Gryffindor. She was in his year, so they had a couple classes together, and of course he had seen her play Quidditch. But he knew the quiet girl tended to keep to herself, and well, Evander was never one to force himself on a person. He attempted a smile of thanks when she stood with the dropped books in her arms. He hoped he didn't look terrified. When she offered to help, he blinked, taken aback. He hadn't expected that.
"Oh! Th-thank you! That would be helpful. I-if you have time," he said, readjusting his own books and nodding toward the next row of shelves. Evander nudged a couple books aside on the shelf, releasing a cloud of dust that he blew away. It was sort of sad really - that all these wonderful books would just sit here with out ever being picked up. There were a lot of students who never even stepped foot in the library unless it was absolutely required of them. Even then, they would often whine at the librarian or one of her aides to go find the book they need, instead of venturing into the stacks themselves. It was a shame. As far as Evander was concerned, the library was the most wonderful place in Hogwarts.
"I'm Evander Cauffe...b-by the way..." he piped up, glancing at his shoes instead of into Alaya's eyes. "I-in case you didn't know. Ravenclaw." [/blockquote]

She never spoke with him even though they have had at least one class together since the first year. She knew nothing of the ravenclaw and for all she knew this was his normal behavior. "I wouldn't of offered if I didn't have the time" She state simply. Strait to the point and simple was how she talked most of the time when she needed to. Most of the time when it came to her classmates she was always quiet and out of the picture. That is until a quidditch game.
She started moving books aside to place the ones in her arms in their right spot. She hated all the dust that was on the books and the shelves. Books were meant to be read not to sit and collect dust. She had been to the library often since her first year but did not think she would ever be able to read even half of the books in the library. She noticed that he would not look at her when he spoke. "Yes I noticed. Alaya Tiaun, if you didn't already know" She stated back. She knew that he probably knew her name but there was no harm in being polite and introducing herself.
"You know you can look at me when you speak. I don't bite" There was a slight pause before she spoke again. "Much." It was kind of a joke but at the same time not really. She placed the last book on the shelf and was left with her original two. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • F O R . I . W I L L . F I G H T .
