Ryan thought he could easily be diagnosed with ADHD. That was what his brother had told him anyway; Edmund thought Ryan had always been edgy and ready to bounce around on a moment's notice. One moment the Hufflepuff would be studying, the next his mind was focused on something happening half way across the common room. If he wanted a career, he had to learn how to keep his eyes and brain on one task. Heck, if he wanted to pass school he had to.
He flipped through his text book, scratched out a sentence in his essay and the rewrote it; his somewhat untidy scrawl took up half the parchment page. Then a random reflection of something caught his attention. Someone must of had a mirror and it had hit a light or something, because there was a rainbow on the constant move on the basement wall, along with a square of light. It was pretty! Then a chain reaction started: the light made him think of a patrounus, which made him think of his spell work, which made him think of transfiguration, which reminded him that he needed to practice.
He glanced at his essay, debating either trying to practice or to write. Ryan shivered. He didn't much like animate into inanimate transfiguration. Poor animals! He didn't think wizards would like to get randomly cast into objects. Which made him think. Maybe he could start an Animal Rights movement. There was one in the non-magical world, so why couldn't there be one in the magical one too? He could petition! .... which made him think of his essay again. Right, original dilemma. Essay or transfiguration spell? Then he forgot about both as the shine caught his eye again.
This time, the shine reminded him of bubbles. Deciding that he had worked on his essay enough and should have a five minute break, Ryan took out a regular bottle of bubbles and started blowing them in the common room. The fourth year watched the reactions of the common room as his bubbles spread out, filling the basement. Those who already knew about him and his antics either shook their heads and went back to work, or perhaps popped a bubble or two, much to his delight. Ryan merely grinned as others looked at him as if he was crazy. He didn't mind what others thought about him. Bubble blowing was fun!
OOC: >.> Product of too much Ryan muse in my system....

It was starting to get late in the common room area of Hufflepuff but that didn't stop people from being up and about. Joy was in a dark corner of the common room with her little notebook of songs and such and her guitar. She didn't like others to listen to her or watch her when she played or sang but it was easy enough to blend in and disappear in the corner of a busy common room. No one payed her any attention and she liked it that way. Currently she was just doodling in her notebook, not sure on what to write for lyrics. Sometimes she got writers block and today was one of those times. Her mood had been especially sour as of late because it was nearing the anniversary of her sisters death. She was always unhappy around this time of the year.
Getting bored with drawing she decided to grab her guitar and start strumming some notes. She had started to come up with a melody for the song she had started writing a few days ago. The melody was soft and sweet, soothing in a way. It was a song for her sister, sort of like a remembrance song. As she strummed the melody, tears started to well up in her eyes and she tried to push them away. She was always getting emotional whenever she tried to write this song which was why it was taking her so long to complete it.
Once she saw the bubbles beginning she knew that a particular Hufflepuff must be having a hard time studying. She knew his name was Ryan but she didn't know the boy that well. He was two years younger than her and she noticed that he was easily distracted but otherwise seemed like a really nice boy. The bubbles did lighten her mood though as she shoved the tears away from her eyes and set her guitar back to the side. She watched as the people around the common room either popped the bubbles in mild delight or shook their head in irritation at the boy. People needed to relax sometimes, honestly. Sitting in her little dark corner she smiled as she watched the boy enjoy himself, at least he was happy.

The Hufflepuff Common room was probably one of his most favorite places in the castle. Then again, he was biased. Being a Hufflepuff played into that. As he popped one of the bubbles that had stubbornly clung to the blowing wand, Ryan started to think about the houses. Even though they were deemed with being hard workers and loyal people and all the good old stereotypes, it was probably just the same as every house. It was a House, so it was a family; yes, even the basement full of patient, hard workers were subject to bicker on occasion. Ryan usually didn't go looking for a confrontation; in all reality, he hated fighting. Nevertheless, his antics had caused disruptions on occasion. He just hoped that tonight wasn't the night.
As Ryan continued to blow bubbles, he looked around the Common Room, seeing what everyone else was up to. Some were working, some were still rolling their eyes. Was he the only one having any amount of fun in here? School was making so many people uptight these days. Geez, it was just a race to nowhere sometimes. Sometimes he thought that Hogwarts had to have a "How to live life" course, teach people how to loosen up and relax at one time or another. Ryan knew that if all he did was hard work, then he'd go bezerk. His patience was more in his temperament with other people, not schoolwork. School wise, Ryan got distracted a bit too easily, and his mind had a tendency to wander. It was something that he needed to work on.
His eyes drifted to one particular Hufflepuff who was alone in a small corner. If he was right, she was a few years above him, her name was Joy and her last name started with an H. Ryan had seen her in the Common Room, the Great Hall and occasionally in the Hallways of the Castle for four years, and that was all information he was getting about her at the moment. Quite sad that he didn't actually know a lot of his Housemates. His head titled as he saw her smile slightly as his last stream of bubbles died down; even though she was smiling, her eyes looked kinda red. Then the guitar caught his eye and he grinned. He went over to the girl and sat down a few feet away from her.
"Hello!" he greeted happily. "Joy, right? I saw the guitar," he said, nodding over to the string instrument and smiling. "I didn't know you played," he said, tilting his head slightly. "Then again... I don't know a whole lot about everyone in the house except that some of them get annoyed with floating bubbles," he joked.

Joy watched curiously as the boy, Ryan, caught her eye. When he noticed her he started over towards her and sat down on the other side of the little couch. He instantly noticed her guitar and commented about it, saying he didn't know that she played. "I usually play in private. Kind of shy about people watching me" she replied with a smile. She didn't think she was any good and so she didn't want people to make fun of her if they did hear her play. Her family reassured her that she was indeed a great musician but she didn't believe them. They were of course biased because they were her family and couldn't just tell her that sucked even if it were the truth, family just wasn't like that.
Realizing she had completely ignored his inquiry of her name she back tracked quickly "Oh and yeah, Joy" she replied and then added "You are Ryan right? I think I have seen you around but honestly I can't say I know much about you either. Guess we are both kinda behind on the news". A small laugh followed her statement. She was just sort of a loner as it was so that explained why she didn't know everyone in her house. Not to mention there was a ton of people in her house, way too many to remember even if she wanted to. "I don't mind the bubbles, ads some fun and breaks the tension sometimes. This common room gets way too serious sometimes" she said glancing around at the people in their little cliches. "So what else do you do in your free time other than blow bubbles?" she asked with a friendly and joking tone.
It was only far to try and get to know a little bit about this Ryan boy, especially if he had taken the time to come over and talk to her. Joy wasn't always the most approachable person, a fact she knew fairly well. It wasn't that she ever looked mean, but she often times looked sad or so focused on whatever was going on inside her head that people steered clear of her. Joy didn't have a ton of friends despite being a sixth year, she just didn't have the drive to really meet new people all the time. She had a select few best friends and called it good at that.
