December 24th, 2022. Lucas Harry Shunpike was seventeen years old, experiencing his last ‘away from Hogwarts’ holiday of his entire life, and sported a buzz cut. Yep. A buzz cut. His poor blonde locks, which he had been happily growing out far past when his mother had told him they should cut, had lasted not ten minutes in her presence before she’d whipped out her wand and muttered a quick spell, causing all of his precious hair to fall to the floor in a useless clump of strands. Lucas had endured the ‘torture’ of having hair shorter than the family cat’s while in his mother’s presence, but it took less than two minutes of her leaving the house before he was standing in front of the mirror in his room, muttering the ‘hair growth’ spell under his breath and only cutting it off when his hair was about an inch longer than it had previously been. ”Much better.”
His parents were gone. It wasn't really an unusual thing in the Shunpike household; members of the family, even if there were only three of them, came and went as they pleased. As long as you gave the rest of the family a bit of warning, even holidays were fair game. His mother had been made the godmother of a girlfriend's daughter when she was born, and today happened to be that goddaughter's first birthday, so of course the Shunpike parents had disappeared for a few days to see the little girl. Lucas, however, had never met her in his life, so he'd taken it upon himself to make the house more festive for Christmas and then had no plans but to chill out until his parent's return the next evening.
The Shunpike House was Lucas' kind of house. It wasn't new. It wasn't super modern. It was actually the house is great grandfather had grown up in, which told its age quite nicely. Everything, from the kitchen to the narrow staircase screamed of the building's age. From the outside it looked pretty simple, two stories, a porch out front, two chimneys on top, etc. Nothing that would catch a muggle's eye, as Tinsworth wasn't mainly a wizarding town- nothing that would make its inhabitants seem as 'interesting' as they really were. Inside, however, it was a bit more spacious. The size of the rooms were still the tiny dimensions as a muggle house, but it had four invisible stories stacked up on top of each other hidden from muggle view and connected by a spiraling staircase at the back of the house. Lucas' room was the attic, the real attic, not the muggle appearance attic. An entire floor to himself... he loved it.
The building was always decorated. First Lucas had to take down all of the decorations his parents had put up from their last holiday; Halloween. Down came the witch from the front door, the 'Ooooooh'ing ghost that randomly appeared over the stairs, and the various spells and enchantments that caused things to come to life or pop out of nowhere and scare whoever walked by. It was a definite help that he was seventeen, a legal adult in the wizarding world, and could use magic to make the process go by a bit faster. Packing all of the decorations away in the basement in the boxes they'd been held in for years, exchanging them for a box of Christmas supplies.
Turning on some Christmas music to blare over the speakers in the living room the blonde haired seventh year started his decoration spree. Tinsel was strung up and down the rails of the stairs, fake frost was sprayed on most of the window (with little sayings like ‘Rock On!’ etched in it), icicles were created (if they didn’t already exist) along the roof outside, Christmas lights were put up and turned on, and the traditional Shunpike spell was cast on the house. What was that spell? Mistletoe. Mistletoe made to randomly appear in random places around the house at random times, with no pattern or predictability whatsoever. The spell had been used for as long as he could remember, apparently something from his parent’s dating days, though the mistletoe had only caught them a few times over the many years since.
The one Christmas decoration he didn't have to get on his own had been supplied for him by his parents, but now stood bare in the corner of their living room near the biggest fireplace of the house. The tree was nearly ten feet tall, full and round (magic helped with what muggle supply couldn't), and rather magnificent. It had been Lucas' job each year since he was seven years old to decorate the tree however he saw fit. Some years he went through phases, such as when he was ten years old and every decoration among the greenery had been a star wars' ornament, but this year he was going for the classic look. He dug around inside the blue container, magically modified (of course) to hold far more than its appearance dimensions should be able to, and pulled out gold and green bulbs, beginning to randomly place them around the tree, spacing them out so that no area was too crowded or empty. ”Decorating’s an art...” he chuckled to himself, taking a golden mesh strip and wrapping it around the tree with a wave of his wand.
It was slow work, but rather enjoyable to Lucas as the music blasted in the room, giving him a beat to move to. Without really even noticing it, Lucas began to hum along to each new song that ranged from Rock to ‘Silent Night’, and by the time his favorite song came on, the guy was really getting into the music. You didn’t have to be seven to make a fool of yourself dancing to “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree”, and that’s what Lucas did. Except he didn’t like to call it ‘making a fool of himself’ he liked to call it ‘having fun’. Singing, dancing (complete with air guitar), Lucas jumped around the living room, putting the finishing touches on the tree, belting out the song at the top of his lungs. God, he loved Christmas.

"later daddy," roxy smiled lightly and kissed her father on the cheek briefly, grinning as he turned his head toward her to acknowledge her words then returned his head to the newspaper article he was engrossed in. she picked up the neatly wrapped present she'd placed on the side table and her bag - swinging it onto her prefered right shoulder - before exiting the lounge. she paused at the bottom of the stairs, turned her head to glance up to the top, "bye mum!" she called, knowing her mother was upstairs somewhere, sorting out the washing perhaps, and she'd wanted to know when roxy was going. her sisters were goodness knew where - out with friends maybe? roxy wasn't their keeper, and though she got on well enough with them she didn't always know where they were.
she tucked the present under one arm, grabbed her door keys and opened the door, quietly slipping out into the cool of the evening air and shutting the door softly behind her. roxy had told her parents she had to go into town and pick up and few things - a few last minute christmas things, and to also drop off a present to a friend of hers. she'd told them she'd be back later, not having specified when, but her parents trusted her - they knew she was old enough to take care of herself, and responsible. you might wonder why she was doing this, going off to deliver a present when it was so close to christmas. well, she always gave her friends gifts, and she tried to hand them out before she left for the christmas holidays, but there was one present she hadn't been able to get until she'd left school, and so she was having to go and give it to him now.
she didn't mind - it meant that she got to go and see him, something she'd been hoping to do since the end of term and they'd parted ways.. she knew she shouldn't be so keen but, ever since that time in the darkened passageway.. well, she hadn't been able to stop thinking about it. she knew now... she knew the truth. roxy had feelings for lucas shunpike... again. she bit her lip as she turned on the spot, apparating away from her house to the end of his road. roxy could remember the apparation lessons they'd all had in the year before - how it'd taken her at least three lessons to move from one hoop to the other, and even then she'd manage to splinch herself..in a comedic way at least. she'd lost both her eyebrows... which would have been embarrassing to most girls, and yes it was ... but it had also been rather amusing, and roxy had laughed it off along with everyone else...and then hurried to the nearest girls bathroom to regrow them.. but still, at least she'd managed to apparate properly in the end.
roxy reappeared several houses away from lucas, not having wanting to turn up right infront of his door... at least this way she had been inconspicious with the random appearing. roxy had been to his house a couple of times as friends, and so she knew where to go roughly. but she hadn't been a while. chewing her lip in a bout of sudden nerves, roxy headed along the road toward lucas' house and up toward his front door, pausing halfway along the path as she caught sight of him in the lounge window, properly rocking out to a song she couldn't hear through the glass. roxy grinned, lips spreading wide at the sight and she shook her head lightly. that was so lucas. still grinning she switched the present to her left hand and knocked gently on the door with her right, chewing her lip again as butterflies danced in her stomach.
she was only dropping a present off... and this was lucas, she didn't need to feel nervous about..well she didn't even know why she was nervous! the present was a little flimsy...it was neatly wrapped in christmas-y wrapping paper, and it had taken ages to find... not that she'd admit it to him if he asked. the present happened to be a medium sized star wars t-shirt, she'd guessed at the size seeing as lucas wasn't large, but his broad shoulders and strong physique hardly made him tiny. you might wonder why it had taken so long to find.. it was just a t-shirt. well funnily enough the wizard world didn't really cater to many muggle things, and star wars wasn't one of them. even the muggles didn't seem to career much to the star wars fans.. or if they did roxy hadn't been able to find them. she'd managed to hunt down one shop in the end, and she'd had to resist the temptation to buy him a light sabre...but when you were magic the light sabre wasn't quite as cool as the t-shirts had been. roxy shifted on the spot and hoped lucas had heard her knock over the noise of his music...

sugar we're going down swinging , [atrb=style, background: #373737; border: dashed #ffffff 4px; border-radius:50px 0px 50px 0px;] [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, border: dashed #ffffff 3px; width: 400px; height: 500px; float: left; padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 20px; padding-bottom: 25px; padding-top: 25px;]
Anyone who really knew Lucas knew that the guy didn't place many limitations on himself. What that meant was that he didn't think things through. When he got the urge to do something, he would generally act on it on a whim. A perfect example of that would be that little meeting he'd had with his ex girlfriend in the tunnel, kissing her in the darkness simply because he believed he'd temporarily lost his sanity. He hadn't wasted the time to think through the action, he'd just pressed his lips against hers. In hindsight, it would have saved a lot of awkwardness if he had taken an extra second or two to debate 'gee, should I or should I not make out with my ex-girlfriend-now-really-good-female-friend?', but hindsight was always twenty-twenty. The basic point was that even at school Lucas didn't really think through what he was going to do. He didn't generally worry of what others thought of him- he'd long had a reputation as the bit of a wacky weirdo (though he hoped lovable) that he was. So why should he be self-conscious of someone stalking peering through his window to see him rocking out to his favorite holiday tune? Simple answer- he didn't.
Having experienced the joy that was having Lucas Shunpike as their child for nearly eighteen years now, Lucas' parents were pretty easygoing about his nature most of the time. Seriously, the guy could do anything and get away with it (which could have something to do with his mom always being so busy looking after his dad that she didn't have much time to keep an eye on her son... but he didn't dwell on that), but at the same time he tried not to abuse their trust which kept it on him. As long as his family could put up with random ideas or spontaneous bursts into song, Lucas always got along well with his parents, sometimes even more than he did with peers his own age. Still, he wouldn't be quite as comfortable 'rocking around the christmas tree' if his parent's were home. Seeing as sometime shortly after July he'd be moving out and starting a life of his own, they would probably want him to be a bit more mature than he was currently being... bah. Maturity.
There was a noise, off from the familiar beat of the blaring music, that made Lucas pause in his movements and slowly let a string of tinsel fall back into its place in a box as he pocketed his wand. Who the hell would be visiting today? If his parents were home early they would have just walked in with a 'Lukey, you didn't burn the place down, did you? Good boy.' and he wasn't expecting any visitors himself... maybe one of his parent's friends who hadn't gotten the memo that they were away was stopping by?
Leaving the music blaring at its current volume, Lucas made his way to the front door, not bothering to look through the little peephole to see who was there. Honestly, what was the point of even having a peephole? They were wizards. If the person on the other side of the door was someone who wanted to kill him that he wouldn't want in his house, a damned door was not going to keep them out. All creepy murderer speculations aside, though, a huge grin spread across the Gryffindor's face when he pulled the door open and saw who was actually there, and he instinctively wrapped her in a tight hug around her waist, lifting her feet off of the ground. "Roxy!"
(Heheh, hope you don't mind that lil lil bit of powerplay.)

Roxy wasn't sure if he'd heard her for a moment for the blaring music still continued and she heard no calls of 'just coming' as some people tended to do. For a moment she hesitated, wondering if she should just turn and leave and maybe try again another day. After all this was pretty much out of nowhere, she'd had invitation to turn up at his house over the holidays, despite the fact that her and Lucas had barely had enough time after their ... Encounter - okay their moment, she had to call it what it was - to have anymore than a couple of awkward passing greetings in the corridors and a couple in class before they were heading home for christmas. In honesty she'd been a little disappointed that they hadn't been able to 'reconcile' before they'd left hogwarts .. Hmm although maybe that was the wrong word, after all it wasn't that they'd had a falling out, more like a make out and then proceeded to not know what to think about it in terms of feelings. At least for roxy she'd managed to get to the point were she realised she was feeling more than friendship for her fellow seventh year gryffindor, even though she had to admit it hurt.
Why? Because they'd already had their relationship. They'd already been down that route and look what had come of it - a break up resulting in the sudden shock of going from spending a lot of time with someone she really enjoyed spending a lot of time with, to suddenly spending very little time with him at all. They'd gone from that easy going, relaxed relationship they'd always had, to abrupt awkwardness. If they went there again... Sure she thought it'd be great but could their friendship survive if they broke up again - which would be inevitable unless they planned on getting married and settled down together ...roxy put the breaks on her thoughts fast. Marriage! Settling down! She'd only just realised she was once more crushing on Lucas shunpike and suddenly she was jumping to the future, a future with him when she didn't even think he liked her back like that! Sure he'd kissed her but... There could be all sorts of reasons as to why, and she thought liking her was probably one of the bottom. Perhaps it was a signal of low self esteem but roxy didn't think about it. She just didn't think there'd be s reason Lucas would be crushing on her again.
She pulled herself completely from her thoughts and shook her head at herself, running a hand through her thick dark hair and wondering once more if she should just leave when suddenly the door opened, light spilling out from the hallway and casting a shadow as a tall human figure blocked most of it. She couldn't help it, she just couldn't.. And a wide grin stretched across her face, her eyes lighting as she turned her head up (and up and up.. He was so tall!) to look into lucas' handsome face. Her heart stuttered and picked up a rhythm double time as she saw his own grin, and a surge of relief flooded her. He didn't seem mad that she'd come, didn't seen annoyed or wary and there was no trace if awkward as his arms wrapped around her waist and she was swept right off her feet.
Roxy laughed lightly at the exuberance of his greeting and squealed slightly in surprise as her feet cleared the ground completely. She made to wrap her arms about his neck gently for balance, no caring as the feel of his strong warm arms wrapped around her and the feel of her arms around his neck reminded her of that moment in the tunnel. She pushed all thoughts of that moment away as she revelled in his closeness, hugging him back, grin widening slightly as she made sure she didn't drop his present. Still laughing slightly she shook her head slightly. "hey lucas," she returned the greeting and waited for him to set her feet back down. "sorry for turning up like this, I just wanted to give you your Christmas present... I didn't get a chance to before." she said lightly, wanting to explain to him before he wondered why she'd just randomly popped out of the blue like this. She was glad she had come here, his exuberance at seeing her had washed away all the worries and awkwardness from before.
She made to place her feet back on the ground once he was done and grinned up at him, before remembering her arms were still around his neck and taking then back carefully. She held the present out to him with a slightly shy grin, suddenly nervous that perhaps he might not like her present, that it might not fit or he might already have one. She shifted nervously on the spot and made to hand him the wrapped present. "sooo happy christmas." she said softly, hoping he like it.

Of all of the people that Lucas might have thought would stop by him and see him near Christmas, Roxy was about last on the list. Don't get him wrong, he was ecstatic that she had taken time out of her day away from her family to come see him, but he had never been expecting it. Since their little meeting in the tunnel they had had minimal contact. Lucas was as much at fault for that as Roxy, it seemed that neither had been too fond of beginning an awkward lengthy conversation. The little 'hey' talks that they had while passing in the conversation were weird and unnatural enough... a meeting alone was sure to be an entire new kind of awkwardness...
Well, if you let it be it will. Why was it that every single fucking voice of reason in his head had to come in the tone of his mother? It wasn't enough that she got to lecture him on morals when she was in the room, she got to give him life lessons when she was hundreds of miles away, too! But, with 'his mom's' words in mind, he pushed all negative thoughts from his brain and tried to forget about the entire tunnel incident that had the great potential to make Roxy run from his house in terror.
"hey lucas, sorry for turning up like this," "You never need to apologize for surprising me," Lucas informed her with a small smile. It was unexpected, yeah, but he'd enjoy her company for however long she happened to stick around. "I just wanted to give you your Christmas present... I didn't get a chance to before." Instantly Lucas felt pretty guilty. He hadn't gotten her anything... he didn't usually get people Christmas presents, and hadn't been expecting to get anything from Roxy, but now he kind of felt obligated to get her something to... the thing was, Lucas' house wasn't exactly stocked with a wide variety of things that a seventeen year old girl might enjoy getting. Maybe he could just grab something before they went back to school and give it to her on their first day back? Yeah, that seemed like the best option...
He barely even noticed that her hands were around his neck, maybe it just felt right... he only noticed when she moved them away, and a shot of awkwardness hit his veins. He tried to push it away as quickly as possible, determined not to ruin Christmas because of a silly little kiss in a darkened tunnel months previous. "sooo happy christmas." Lucas grinned, taking the soft package from her hand. Of course it would be rude to just rip it open on his doorstep, so he took a step back, holding the door open with his free hand. "C'mon in, Roxy. Stay for a while. Er.... that's if you don't have anywhere else you need to be?" Of course, she might not have wanted to stick around... this could have just been a drop off visit... but Lucas really did hope that she'd stick around for a while.

she could tell she'd surprised him. maybe he'd been expecting someone else, or maybe he hadn't expected anyone at all from the volume of his christmas music - which she had to admire, and give him points on good taste. there was nothing worse than a scrooge at christmas time, and thankfully lucas seemed to be the type to get right into the swing of the festivities rather than be all 'bah humbug' about them. she could only hope however, that dropping herself on him as a surprise like this wasn't a bad one in his book. she didn't want to inconvenience him or anything. after all, he could have ... been doing work or ... or ... entertaining guests? roxy would've rolled her eyes at herself if she could, but doing that right now in front of lucas might cause him to label her crazy.
he genuinely seemed pretty damn happy to see her though, which made her heart swell slightly and a grin spread across her face, cheeks reddened by the cool of the wind and by his exuberant greeting. she could only hope he didn't put her flush down to just his arms around her, otherwise that might be highly embarrasing and cause them to go back to that awkward stage which she desperately didn't want to go back to. so far in this greeting neither of them had mentioned the tunnel thing nor the awkward occasional greetings during passings in the hallways or in the classrooms, which was great! really great that they could put that behind them. she just hoped that neither of them brought it into play again..which meant she needed to stop thinking about it herself.
"You never need to apologize for surprising me," she grinned lightly, trying to ignore the slight tinge of red to her cheeks as he spoke that immediately after her apology and she glanced at him. "even if i jump out at you and give you a heart attack?" she teased, her smile widening to a grin and she felt herself slipping back into how her and lucas where before all the awkwardness... and it was easy. she didn't know how it was easy but it was. she didn't want it to be awkward, and so suddenly it didn't feel awkward. it just felt like... roxy and lucas. she tried to shove out of mind the ring of 'roxy and lucas', and looked at the guy opposite her, seeing a look of guilt pass over him and she rolled her eyes and shook her head. "it's fine you know, i know we didn't agree to get each other gifts or anything but ... hey i saw this i couldn't not leave it there so .. don't worry about it." she said lightly.
she didn't want him to feel guilty or anything or go and buy her something, she wasn't one of those people who cared about getting gifts, she was happy to give them to people but she wasn't fussed about getting anything in return. she knew she'd gone and brought this specifically but lucas didn't need to know that. that was when she remembered to take her hands away from his neck, noting how he didn't seem to notice that they'd been there in the first place and she tried to stop herself from biting her lip awkwardly. no, she wasn't going to let this get awkward. nu uh. nope. no way. she handed the package over as he took it and watched him take a step back.
"C'mon in, Roxy. Stay for a while. Er.... that's if you don't have anywhere else you need to be?" she hesitated for a moment, only because she didn't want this to get awkward or anything. but it wasn't like it could really get that awkward, and hey she hadn't told her parents when she'd be back so she had the time. "no i don't have anywhere else to be... so sure." she said lightly with a smile, going to step forward into the house, bringing herself a little closer to lucas by accident until they were almost touching so she could squeeze in past the door, gently going to shut it behind her seeing as he'd have to reach around her to do it otherwise. she felt her heart flutter at his closeness but she tried to push past it and looked up at him with a light grin, a little uncertain in his house seeing as she hadn't been here in a while, but it felt familiar and comfortable..homely. "nice music by the way," she said lightly, being honest despite her slightly teasing smile as she waited for him to lead the way to where ever he wanted them to go.

"even if i jump out at you and give you a heart attack?" a familiar grin spread across lucas' lips at the familiar joking comment, just like he would expect from the girl that stood before him. her sense of humor, her smile, all those things about her were what had attracted him to her back when they were together, or really before they were together way back when. before he'd had the courage to speak up about his crippling little crush on the gorgeous gryffindor. before they'd dated and been happy. before the devastating breakup. before all of the awkwardness that had torn apart their friendship... woah, debbie downer alert! ...sorry. yeah, lucas was whipped by his own inner voice. great. what the hell would it be like when he actually had a woman to whip him? ...kinky. ...oh my god! "if the heart attack kills me, you might want to apologize for killing me in my eulogy. otherwise, never say sorry."
"it's fine you know, i know we didn't agree to get each other gifts or anything but ... hey i saw this i couldn't not leave it there so .. don't worry about it." but it wasn't right for her to spend her hard earned money on something for him when, to be honest, he hadn't really thought of getting her something given their extreme awkwardness in the tunnel that had made him begin to worry they were heading backwards into the early months after the breakup. she was an amazing girl, she really did deserve something for christmas, especially after giving him something... lucas said nothing in response, but kept his mental note to find something for her before their return to school so that he could present her with it the first time he saw her in the common room.
"no i don't have anywhere else to be... so sure." he scolded himself for the instant grin that showed up on his features yet again, though he supposed it never really disappeared... just faded and accented itself with time and situation. why should he be so happy she was staying? it shouldn't make too much of a difference to him. well, okay, it should, but his happiness was a bit too much for a friend staying over for a bit, wasn't it? he stepped back, as much as he could, back pressing against the wall in the small hall of the doorway as he tried to give her some space and, most importantly, ignore her closeness. yep. that was very, very important. "nice music by the way," glad the for distracting thought, lucas nodded with a slight chuckle, only now realizing that the music was up on full blast still. "heh, yeah, well... classics, ya know? these songs are what i'm going to make sure my children dance around the christmas tree to."
suddenly flustered and trying to hide it he maneuvered his way through the hall, back to the living room and the fire crackling in the fireplace near the tree. boxes were strewn about here and there, bits of tinsel and moving ornaments lying or crawling along the floor in no particular pattern. "er, sorry for the mess. i get a little bit, uh... enthusiastic about decorating sometimes," he admitted sheepishly, crouching down to pick a piece of tinsel up and throw it in a nearby box. "go ahead and sit," he invited, indicating the leather loveseat in front of the fire. "i'll go get us some hot chocolate, kay? nothing says 'winter wonderland' like hot chocolate."
(so imma talk to you on msn together if there's something you thin ki should change or that this went too fast... i'm kinda meh about the ending, but that's why i'll talk to you tomorrow. < 3)

as he grinned she couldn't help but copy the expression, her own grin spreading across her face. it was like that with lucas, his moods were always very infectious - especially when he grinned or laughed. he just had that happy persona that everyone caught, and if he grinned you just wanted to grin back. it was nice to joke with him again, she'd missed it since they'd kissed; worried that they'd loose the easy going humour between them once more. his sense of humour had always been something she loved about him, he'd always been able to make her grin - not just smile but full on grin and laugh, and it'd always been effortless. she avoided thinking about the time they'd broken up. roxy hadn't realised how badly a heart could break, but she'd learnt the hard way when they'd split up, the months of awkwardness had been just as painful.
least they'd gotten back to becoming friends, that was the main thing, even if the feelings she'd had for him before had begun to return. "if the heart attack kills me, you might want to apologize for killing me in my eulogy. otherwise, never say sorry." roxy grinned gently and shook her head slightly. "i don't think i'd be the best person to write your eulogy.." she teased gently and shook her head. she didn't want to think about about that dark corner though; the idea of a world without lucas was shuddering, incomprehensible in fact. instead she focused on telling him about the present - he didn't need to get her one, honestly, she'd be happy just spending a few hours with him, she felt no need for presents in return. heck even just a hug from him was enough.
she doubted he'd listen to her, he was such a kind, generous man that he'd want to give her something in return, but she could only hope that his lack of response was agreement that he didn't need to buy her anything in return. as he grinned she grinned once more in return, unable to help it. she was glad he seemed happy that she was able to stay; that he generally wished for her to remain with him rather than it being one of those times people ask out of courtesy. she tried to ignore what his close proximity was doing to her heart, the way it stuttered a few beats them picked up double time in response. everything about him was great... the way he looked, the way he smiled, the way he smelled... she swallowed and instead focused upon the music to distract herself from lucas.
she smiled as he chuckled and moved a little past him so he could shut the door and both of them could breathe. "heh, yeah, well... classics, ya know? these songs are what i'm going to make sure my children dance around the christmas tree to." she grinned and tried to hide a faint blush as he spoke of the idea of his children dancing around the christmas tree...his words 'my children' echoed in the back of her mind and she tried to push back the thoughts that invaded her mind... he wanted children? she hadn't really thought about the future but somewhere along the line she'd wanted to marry, to settle down and be a mother... once upon a time when they'd been together she'd wondered...wondered if lucas would be father to her children but after they'd split up... so why couldn't she get those thoughts out of her mind?
he seemed as flustered as she was and she ducked her head and made to move after him down the hall and into the living room, smiling at the scene. it was so very festive - with the merry fire crackling and flickering away, the christmas tree half decorated with other christmas ornaments and such strewn about the room. "er, sorry for the mess. i get a little bit, uh... enthusiastic about decorating sometimes," she grinned and shook her head. "no i like it... christmas is always the best time of year! i'm glad someone finally shares my enthusiasm for decorating..." she said happily, loving all the festivities and glad that he seemed to love them as much himself. "go ahead and sit," she smiled lightly and made to sit where he indicated, watching the fire crackling before glancing back to lucas as he spoke. "i'll go get us some hot chocolate, kay? nothing says 'winter wonderland' like hot chocolate." she grinned again - heck did he make her grin - and watched him head off to get the hot chocolate. she relaxed into the seat, feeling strangely at home as she glanced about and waited for him to return, trying to keep unbidden thoughts of him out of mind...unsuccessfully...

"no i like it... christmas is always the best time of year! i'm glad someone finally shares my enthusiasm for decorating..." it kinda sucked, sometimes people to too wrapped up in the religious debates and conflicts that surrounded christmas and forgot to just enjoy the frickin' holiday! it was time of school with family. time to do nothing but relax and fool around and have fun. if you didn't enjoy christmas and decorating, or holidays in general really, you deserved to be locked up in some back room at st. mungo's awaiting brain surgery because your mind was fucked. it was good to see that roxy was of the same mind as him, though. he'd hate to have to kill her for a lack of spirit at his favorite holiday. not that he would of course... ebbing overdramatic was just fun at times, as long as the drama was kept in his head. people would likely think him crazy himself if they knew what went on in the seventh year's brain half the time.
he walked through a small doorway in the wall of the living room, down a small hall, and in to the olden style kitchen of his family's home, calling over his shoulder as he went. "we shunpike's go all out for holiday's. you can't be a part of this family without a whole ton of christmas spirit. it just isn't allowed." he'd inherited his love of christmas and holidays from his parents, who had likely inherited it from their own parents, and he fully intended to carry on the 'tradition' with whatever little rascals he someday produced. the world sucked sometimes, true, but if you couldn't find it in you to enjoy holidays even when things were a little bit dreary you had terrible life skills and optimism levels.
he had to duck to avoid hitting his head on some of the cupboards that hung above the counters in the kitchen. actually, it was more like he had to lean backwards since the bottom of the counters hung at about three quarters his height. his mother was the only one in the family who could maneuver in this kitchen without an issue, which probably made sense seeing as she was the one in it most often. the point was proven when he opened the family's fridge, which was more than half full of trays of cookies and cupcakes and any style of christmas themed pastry you could find. little snowmen were etched in inch high icing on the cupcakes, trees made out of small hard candies sprinkled over the cookies, stars sparkling on other cupcakes... yeah, mrs. shunpike went all out on baking.
seeing all of the goodies, an idea began forming in lucas' brain. he pulled out one of the trays from the fridge, setting it on the counter. moving to the pantry he reached inside, pulling out a nearly full clear plastic bag containing dozens of large marshmallows and two sticks for roasting them. with a wave of his wand the kettle on the counter began to whine as it heated with water within. he moved to a cupboard near the sink, reached up and pulled out two packets of hot chocolate. reaching into another cupboard he paused, looking around for good mugs to use... "great..." being a family of three, they only found need for three mugs. as a boy lucas had saved his money for his parents to buy them two mugs, one saying "#1 DAD!", and one saying "#1 MOM!". in return a few days later his parents had presented him with one that said "#1 SON!" it had been the family's little joke, and because of the lack of company they had at their house, generally, they found no need to get other mugs. when lucas went to pull out his mug, though, he could only find his parent's, which would just be kinda weird... but the tea kettle was wailing away and lucas didn't want to keep roxy waiting, so he grabbed his parent's mugs, poured in the powder, grabbed the kettle, and added the steaming water.
a spell sent everything he had prepared hovering in the air before him as he went back to the living room, grinning yet again. "scratch what i said before, nothing says winter wonderland like hot chocolate and roasting marshmellows." the 'mom' mug drifted through the air to settle on the end table near roxy's side of the loveseat, as did the tray of cookies, while his mug went to the identical end table on his side. the marshmellows and sticks settled between where they would be sitting as lucas sat down on his knees on the couch with a grin. "christmas party of sorts for two. sound good to you?"

"we shunpike's go all out for holiday's. you can't be a part of this family without a whole ton of christmas spirit. it just isn't allowed." she grinned lightly as she heard lucas' voice drift from the kitchen back to where she was sitting. she grinned lightly, knowing that she felt exactly the same way and glad that he shared her views. "sounds like my family," she laughed lightly. "you've gotta at least have over-decorated one of the house rooms otherwise we'll just be dissapointed." she grinned and rolled her eyes, remembering how many hours she spend every year in the run up to christmas making endless paper-chains and hanging them up in every room, making paper snowflakes and sticking them to the ceiling, lining everything with tinsel....the tree, heck that was more baubles, tinsel and random decorations than it was foliage when she was done with it.
she didn't think of religion when it came to christmas time, she just thought of the joy that was had with your family - the fun you could have decoration and buying the christmas tree and wrapping presents for the people you loved. she hated people who made such a big deal over the 'real' meaning of christmas, but she liked spending time with family and friends...like now, she liked being here with lucas spending some time with him for once. she was glad that it wasn't awkward between them, and that they could enjoy each other's company again. she could only hope that in the future she met a guy who would have the same love for christmas that she did... like...well, like lucas did. she blushed as that thought popped into her mind, unbidden, unexpected. it was true though, lucas shared so many of her views that it was impossible not to think about him like that...
she steered her thoughts away quickly to cool her flaming cheeks and looked into the flickering flames instead, smiling slightly as they danced in the grate so merrily. it'd been a while since she'd been in lucas' house and the first time they'd ever been alone together. she'd met his parents a couple of times, and they'd been very nice and welcoming, but being here now felt different...mostly because before they'd been a couple and now they were friends...things were just..different. she shook her head slightly, trying to move her thoughts away from this whole..lucas..future..thing she kept circling over. it did her no good to think about it. her and lucas were friends, whether she was crushing on him again or not.
she blinked and looked up as he came back into the room, raising her eyebrows slightly but grinning none the less as she saw the array of foods he was floating in front of him. that was the beauty of being over seventeen - being able to do magic without having to worry about the ministry on your tail. "scratch what i said before, nothing says winter wonderland like hot chocolate and roasting marshmellows." she laughed lightly and watched a mug with 'mum' settle on her side of the table, trying to push back those unbidden thoughts again on the word on the mug after her earlier thoughts of the future. "are you trying to make me fat?" she teased, grinning nonetheless and watching as he settled beside her. "christmas party of sorts for two. sound good to you?" she nodded in return and smiled softly, "sounds perfect."
he was closer to her than she'd realised; the loveseat didn't really leave much space between the two and she could feel her heart rate increasing as she thought of his proximity. she chewed her lower lip as she caught a movement above their heads and she blinked and glanced up. "mistletoe...!" she half exclaimed in sudden surprise, and then after she'd identified what it was she remembered what came with mistletoe... a kiss. her cheeks flooded rose and she glanced at lucas, unable to hide the blush as she looked at him, a sudden bout of nerves coming over i. "i..." she bit her lower lip once more, trying to say something. "i think that means we're supposed to kiss now..." she said softly, almost a whisper...and then without letting herself over think things, without thinking that perhaps he might not want to kiss her or something, her head tilted up toward him slightly. then before she could let herself back out, her eyelids fluttered shut and she made to press her lips to his...

"are you trying to make me fat?" "you? roxy? fat? the very idea shocked lucas. that was the last word he would ever call her, and though he knew she'd meant the comment in a joking tone he was still just stunned by the very idea of her thinking herself fat. "never. you're perfect just the way you are." ...okay dude, when did you get so sappy? it's nice to be suppotive of your friends and all, but reign it in! man up for god's sake! he was in... too good of a mood today. it was making him say weird things, or think too much on the things he did say. christmas crazies, he supposed... crazies that he hoped would disappear damned fast before they made him say or do something that he might forever regret.
"sounds perfect." it did, actually. lucas might have been fine being alone for the day, decorating his house all alone and rocking out to some awesome tunes, but he knew that he was far better in the company of miss finnigan. christmas holidays weren't meant to be spent alone, of course. they were meant to be celebrated with friends and family, even if it wasn't a planned celebration. sometimes the random 'dude, let's do this!' ideas came up with the best results, and lucas couldn't see himself not getting a good result from inviting roxy into his home.
he glanced at the fire, flickering orange flames a few feet away from them, occasionally sending a few sparks flying up into the chimney. when he was little he used to try to climb into the fireplace and up into the chimney, wanting to be exactly like santa... his mother had always been furious with him when he failed, often times hurting himself in the attempt, and tracked ashes and soot through her living room when he came out of the fireplace. she'd always scolded him, grounded him, punished him any way she could think of, but little lucas could always be found pushing (or attempting) his way up the chimney the next week, or the next year. he was a stubborn child.
"mistletoe...!" startled, lucas looked back to his ex, and then above them. "wha-" the spell. his family's spell... the random mistletoe that had only caught his parents four times in over twenty years of marriage... it had caught them. it had the worst timing. "i... i think that means we're supposed to kiss now..." lucas was ready to laugh, to make some awkward joke about it along with roxy... he didn't expect her to actually be serious, but when he looked at her he found himself all too willing to follow the tradition of the mistletoe. she was so close... so kissable... "roxy..." like someone else was in control of his body, lucas leaned forward as she did, closing the little distance between them while his hands wrapped up to pull her towards him, their lips finally connecting.
he was far less hesitant this time than he had been in the tunnel, his arms pulling her so close to him that there wasn't really any distance between them. the kiss started off strong, and only grew in intensity, like a fire spreading through his veins. breaking the kiss for a moment he moved off of the loveseat, leaning down with one arm still wrapped around his ex, and kissed her lips again, tugging lightly on her body with his arm to tell her to follow him. that 'damned' spell had the best timing.

she hadn't been sure what he'd do when she went to kiss him. normally the guy kissed her, she didn't usually make the first move - she wasn't usually that confident. indeed she wasn't even that confident now, scared that lucas would push her away, ask her what in hecks name she was doing and suggest that she leave immediately. she heard him murmur her name and wondered if he was about to reject her as she was scared he would. but no... suddenly she felt his strong arms wrap around her and his soft, warm lips against her own and she simply melted against him, feeling all of the tension and awkwardness between them before dissipate.
the kiss started stronger than she'd intended but she wasn't complaining, and things only grew more heated as neither of them broke the kiss. she didn't know how quickly time was flying - seconds, minutes, hours...all she knew was lucas... his touch, his scent, his lips, his hands... he had to break the kiss, she didn't remember how, and she took the moment to remember how to breathe as she followed his movement, watching as he stood and going to stand herself, not really needing the small tug of his arm around her as she followed him willingly, lips going to seek out his like he was a drug to her...and indeed he was. she couldn't get enough of him as she moved with him, not letting herself think about consequences and for once, living in the moment...
she woke slowly, not really wishing to wake from the peaceful sleep. she didn't usually dream, she had nightmares sometimes but often her slumbers were pretty void of dreams. she wouldn't remember much of it in the morning, but whilst she slept she saw lucas... cliche perhaps but after such a night she couldn't help but dream of him. it was a simple scene... her and lucas where sitting beside a christmas tree, colourful wrapped presents spilling out from under the huge douglas fur tree. roxy was holding a present, about to hand it to a young child that lucas had in his arms. anyone might think that was scary, to dream that the boy she loved was holding a child in his arms, but they were happy...and the few month old child was laughing as roxy handed him a present and lucas helped him tear it open...
...she shifted slightly and felt the comfort of a warm, strong torso beside her. automatically, as though it were second nature, she moved closer to said person and made to snuggle against him, wanting to get closer. then as she began to stir properly the thought occured to her that didn't she usually sleep alone? confused for a moment, she half frowned, yawning as she blinked her eyes open and found herself looking at a boy her age, quite close to her, his warm arm wrapped around her smaller body. she blinked, about to wonder what the heck was happening...and then the events of the night before came back to her, and a blush blossomed on her cheeks.
now she remembered everything. lucas and her....and their escapades. but rather than be embarrased she simple felt.. warm... comfortable... happy. she'd never been with a guy in that way before, and she'd always wondered what it would be like after, whether it would be awkward. but, this didn't feel awkward at all... she just felt relaxed...as if she belonged right here. she smiled softly and shifted onto her side slightly, not meaning to disturb him as she got comfortable once more and couldn't help but think just how adorable he looked when he slept. it was a weird experience...to be waking up beside lucas, but... it didn't feel awkward...she didn't feel as if she should be leaving before he woke... she felt ...right...and she just couldn't help herself as she shifted slightly once more and made to press her lips ever so gently to his and then settle on her side, close her eyes and wonder if she could sneak another few minutes of sleep....

sugar we're going down swinging , [atrb=style, background: #373737; border: dashed #ffffff 4px; border-radius:50px 0px 50px 0px;] [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, border: dashed #ffffff 3px; width: 400px; height: 500px; float: left; padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 20px; padding-bottom: 25px; padding-top: 25px;]
it was a good thing that the shunpike parents weren't home today, and wouldn't be home for a while. their reaction to coming home to boxes and tinsel strung about the living room, cold hot chocolate on the end tables, and their son asleep in his bed with a teenage girl... well, that was one lucas wasn't exactly keen on seeing. don't get him wrong, it might have been amusing... had it happened to anyone else. his parents never gave him 'the talk', but though they were easygoing he never really got the 'live life how you want to live' vibe to this extent. they wanted their son to enjoy his life, but to points of responsibility, not this far. he was only a teenage, sure an adult in the wizarding world, but a teenager all the same. his parents just would not approve of this situation...
luckily they weren't due back until, well, the evening at the earliest, and in his blissful state of peace the last thing on lucas' mind was the potential reactions of his parents. he might as well have been floating on a cloud, completely relaxed, calm, dimly aware of a smaller warm figure pressed close to him, his arm loosely draped across whoever they might be. he knew that he was slowly coming awake, but that it was very, very possible for him to just drift back off into the happy state of unconsciousness and dreams he'd been in a moment earlier.
that was, he knew that until there was the soft, warm pressure of lips against his for a moment that made him stir, eyes flickering. what... what was that? he kept his eyes closed, still unable to find the energy to open them, and reflected. what was the last thing he remembered...? decorating the tree, going nuts with tinsel and the decorations he loved, and then there had been a knock at the door and then...
roxy.
his eyes opened to see her familiar face a few inches away from his, eyes closed, looking as peaceful as an angel (though, really, she always looked like an angel). she couldn't be asleep, though... unless his house was haunted by a poltergeist whose lips felt too perfect on his. okay, fucking creepy thought, lucas... it was much better to focus on the perfection a little ways away from him. he debated letting her drift back into sleep herself, why bother her? but from the sun drifting through his window it seemed it was late in the morning, maybe it was time to wake up. maybe her family would be freaking out over where she was... "roxy?" he whispered softly. his hand draped across her waist nudged her, gently rocking her back and forth. "rise and shine, beautiful."

she was glad she hadn't given her parents a time limit to when she was home, or indication of where she'd gone. she knew they might worry but she would talk to them soon enough, she'd told them she might be late and they knew she'd gone to a friends and that roxy was known to be sensible... okay well that kind of went out the window after tonight. it wasn't like they'd committed a terrible sin - her and lucas - and she didn't regret it but she knew her parents would scold her for her lack of responsibility if they knew. she didn't really plan on them finding out however, she would say she stayed at a different friend's house and they'd be okay with that...hopefully.
which brought around the question...what did this mean for her and lucas? she wasn't the 'friends with benefits' type in the slightest... but what if he thought it had been a mistake? or a spur of the moment thing? or he just wanted to be friends? she had to stop herself from over-thinking things. she liked him... a lot, and last night had been...well for her she had to say it had been rather amazing, and she didn't want to forget about it and move on. it had meant something to her...but she was worried it hadn't meant anything to lucas. not that she thought he'd be an asshole to use her, but she hadn't exactly let him speed before kissing him, and well...he was a guy....
she felt him shift slightly and wondered if he'd woken, though she was a little nervous right now to open her eyes. she didn't know what time it was or if he had things to be getting on with today, maybe he wanted her to go? she forced herself to stop thinking like that again, knowing she'd only upset herself with thoughts that lucas didn't like her like she liked him. she had to remind herself of the feel of his lips against hers...you couldn't kiss someone like that if you didn't feel anyone for them. you couldn't... do what they did last night without feeling something for the person you were ..well doing it with. or at least she didn't think lucas could, he wasn't a jerk like some guys. he was honest, and sweet and he cared....
"roxy?" she heard him whisper her name and considering she hadn't managed to fall back to sleep she let her eyelids slide open slowly, seeing him so close to her made her heart beat a little faster. she felt the hand he had draped over her rock her slightly and she gave a small smile, a blush forming as he said - "rise and shine, beautiful." he thought she was beautiful? it made her heart warm slightly at the thought and the way he was looking at her. "morning, handsome." she grinned softly, unable to help it, or the fact that she moved one hand out from under the covers to touch his cheek gently, wondering for one crazy moment if it had been a dream. apparently not...but that made it all the better. she noticed by the light that it was quite late in the morning, but it was nice, laying here beside lucas like this...she could only wonder what was going on through his head though.

sugar we're going down swinging , [atrb=style, background: #373737; border: dashed #ffffff 4px; border-radius:50px 0px 50px 0px;] [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, border: dashed #ffffff 3px; width: 400px; height: 500px; float: left; padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 20px; padding-bottom: 25px; padding-top: 25px;]
"morning, handsome." the soft voice and gentle touch against his cheek sent a certain kind of warmth flowing through lucas' veins. a smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he looked back at her perfect face, his mind jumping from a million things, to nothing, and then back to a million things again in a matter of seconds. there was no use denying it anymore... no use saying 'we're just friends', as though the kiss in the tunnel hadn't made that lie obvious enough ages ago. his feelings for roxy had never faded. they'd retreated to the back of his brain where he could pretend to ignore them. they had sat and festered and, if anything, grew, which explained their actions of the evening before. never in a million years had he imagined actually waking up to the perfection beside him, but there she was, looking back at him, and lucas knew that there was no way he would regret their evening.
that was... unless she disagreed. unless she thought that the night before had been a mistake. unless she was anxious to go home. unless, when they returned to school, it would be like this visit had never happened, or worse, that it had and that she was disgusted with him. but... roxy wouldn't do that, right? she seemed content enough lying next to him right now, and it wasn't like he'd taken advantage of her, right? she'd wanted their night as much as he had, he had no reason to feel guilty...right?
no, of course not... why did his mind go to the negatives? he was generally a fairly optimistic person, he should keep himself that way and be happy with it. leaning forward he kissed her lips, arm around her drawing them slightly closer together so that when he pulled away their noses were almost touching. "merry christmas," he chuckled slightly. he pulled away again, pushing himself up on his bed towards the pillows and headboard so that he could sit up and read a clock across the room that read 11:14am. "if you're not in any rush to get home i can make us some breakfast and- oh!" 'merry christmas' had reminded him. "i didn't open your present yesterday!" somehow that flustered him more than waking up unclothed next to her had. reaching over he grabbed his wand from his bedside table, flicked it downstairs, and muttered the summoning charm for the gift wrapped present, which whizzed into his grip a moment later. he peeled back the paper, revealing dark fabric. lucas was confused until he pulled the t-shirt away from the wrapping paper and opened it up, sitting up on the bed by now. "jesus, do you know me, or what?" he grinned, holding the t-shirt to his chest. "the right size, too! this is perfect, roxy!"
of course, now he felt worse about not getting her anything... but he had time until school started up again. he was sure he could find something... besides, the t-shirt had given him an idea that pushed thoughts of getting a present for her out of his mind. lucas found himself almost blushing as he spoke the words. "you know how, in muggle movies, the girlfriend wears the boyfriend's t-shirt in the morning?" he forced himself to actually look at her, a shy smile on his lips as he held out what was sure to be an oversized t-shirt to her. "i think you should do that." was that his workaround way to asking her out because he was too nervous to say 'roxy, want to be my girlfriend?'? yes. yes it was.

she couldn't help but grin as he smiled at her, feeling a small pang of relief wash over her - as well as a heat she'd come to recognise as something only lucas could ignite within her. at least he hadn't moved away from her touch or told her to go - that was a good sign right? she knew she was perhaps being more pessimistic by thinking worrisome thoughts about lucas rejecting her but she couldn't help it. she was at her most vulnerable. not only because she was clothe-less right now (which upon remembering almost made her blush) but more the fact that she'd laid her heart on the line last night. not being the one night kind of girl she'd given something rather precious to lucas, bare not only...well her physical attributes to him but her heart, and she knew she could have been suspectable to rejection or having her heart broken - she'd shown him she was still in love with him, and if he'd been another type of guy he might have taken her heart in his hands and crushed it...luckily he'd done nothing of the sort.
Everything so far this morning had shown her that he felt the same - the way he smiled at her..and the way he made to press his lips to hers. roxy grinned gently and shifted closer as he pulled her against him, happily responding to his kiss and moving her hands to rest them upon his strong shoulders, marvelling still at the feel of his bare skin beneath her fingertips. she didn't regret anything from last night, it'd been so perfect in her mind, and she hoped he knew that. if he was worried about it she'd tell him - last night hadn't been a mistake for her, she didn't want to forget or act like it hadn't happened, she wanted them to go forward from here. she just hoped he felt the same.
"merry christmas," roxy grinned and opened her eyes to gaze at his face, their noses almost touching. unable to help herself she made to touch her lips to his nose gently and grin slightly, "merry christmas to you too.." she murmured and she shifted as he pulled back and sat up, going to sit up herself and in self-conciousness she couldn't help but blush and pulled the covers up in modesty with her. even if he had seen her last night and they'd slept soundly beside each other, she still couldn't help but be a little self concious, even if he didn't seem to be at all - well not that she think he needed to be either, it was all she could do to stop herself staring at him...the tatto continued to catch her eye, and she couldn't help but admire it, her fingers wanting to trace the lines across his chest but she held back and her eyes flickered to his face lest he catch her staring.
she couldn't help but follow his gaze, blinking as she noticed the time - surprised. she didn't usually sleep in quite this late...then again there were a lot of firsts happening these few days it seemed. "if you're not in any rush to get home i can make us some breakfast and- oh!" she was about to say that she didn't have a time limit and breakfast would be nice but the 'oh' made her shut her mouth again and she blinked, confused until he explained himself. "i didn't open your present yesterday!" she grinned, finding it cute how he got flustered. "it's okay...i guess we kinda got distracted..." she said, blushing slightly herself. first with the whole living room mess that had directed their thoughts to decorating, and then to the hot chocolate and marshmallows, and then of course...to this kissing and what had followed. she didn't blame him for forgetting - she had. she settled happily beside him as he waved his wand and the present flew into his hands.
a bundle of nerves coiled in her stomach as he tore at the paper, worried for a moment that he wouldn't like it...worried it'd be the wrong size, the wrong this or maybe he already had one but then his words wiped away her worries and she relaxed. "jesus, do you know me, or what?" she laughed lightly and blushed faintly. "well i should hope i'd know you a little at least by now..." she half teased - after all, they'd been friends for years, and been a couple for some of the time... she'd grown to know him pretty well and their love of muggle movies particularly star wars was a shared passion that she would never forget. "the right size, too! this is perfect, roxy!" she chewed her lip lightly and glanced at him, "you're sure it's okay and all?" she just wanted to double check in case he was just saying it to make her feel better...but so far he looked genuinely happy about it.
she glanced away for a moment then back to him as he spoke once more, catching a difference in his tone. "you know how, in muggle movies, the girlfriend wears the boyfriend's t-shirt in the morning?" this time she blushed properly, her own smile as shy as his as she looked at him. of course she knew - whenever the girlfriend stayed she always seemed to slip on a boyfriends shirt the next morning...roxy had always thought it was really cute..she nodded to show she understood what he was talking about it. "i think you should do that." her blush darkened as he said that. lucas was asking her.. to wear his t-shirt. just like in the cute movies that she loved.... did this mean what she thought he meant? that he wanted to be her boyfriend again? it was the only thing she could think considering how he'd worded it - talking about how girlfriends always wore the boyfriends shirts..and he was telling her he should wear hers. she couldn't help but grin and nod, "i'd love to.." she said; both in answer to what he'd said as well as the silent question he'd ask. in other words.... yes she'd love to be his girlfriend..
she took the shirt lightly from him and opened it up properly so she could slip her arms into it and then poke her head out the right hole, brushing her hair back as some of it got stuck into the t-shirt and she pushed it down properly before looking at lucas with a soft almost shy grin. it came down to almost mid thigh on her once she'd sorted it out; bagging but comfortable and warm; already it smelled like lucas and she loved it. "how's it look?" she asked lightly, sitting up properly and pushing the covers away so that he could see the full t-shirt and the way it fell just past the tops of her thighs.

"i love it, roxy. promise." he'd said that it was perfect, hadn't he? maybe he should be teasing her about her unease, but lucas was still rather struck dumb by this. it wasn't like he'd woken up that morning- or, er, yesterday morning, thinking 'guess what, lukey boy? you're going to screw your ex-girlfriend today!' (or any variation of that thought in wording more or less crude). no, yesterday had started normally in lucas-world, and then somewhere between tinsel and midnight the world had suddenly shifted to a state of having the girl he was in love with naked in his bed. merry christmas, lucas! this wasn't supposed to happen. no, once you went through a relationship, terrible breakup, and the awkwardness ensuing afterwards, that was supposed to be it. done. fin. no second chances, no redemption, hell, he'd counted himself lucky that he'd even gotten a chance at friendship. but, even though this defied lucas' laws of teenage relationships he didn't want the world to make sense again. if it did their evening wouldn't have happened and he wouldn't be able to called roxy finnigan his again.
"i'd love to.." the familiar rush of warmth that lucas always felt around roxy came around again. whenever she smiled, laughed, hugged him, joked around with him... he'd spent the last year chalking it up to happiness at their friendship, relaxation as was his nature, but now he allowed himself to recognize them for what they were: butterflies. a flock of them by the feel of it, sending tingles up and down his spine and a crooked grin on his lips. these weren't bad butterflies. not the type that said 'i don't think i can do this', no these butterflies were the good kind. they were having a celebration, telling the seventeen year old that something in his world was going right, and lucas didn't have to question and wonder what they were referring to. roxy. always roxy.
too elated to speak, lucas let his grin do the talking as roxy took the shirt from his grip. he felt like a little kid, like nine year old lucas who had just unwrapped an amazing christmas present (no pun or connection between wrapping paper and roxy's clothes intended) and couldn't help but shout out 'this is the best christmas ever!' he restrained himself, though. anyone who knew the blonde haired teen was well aware he was not the most mature guy around- easily excitable, too easy-going, those sort of traits, but he could control himself once in a while.
he didn't want to stare. honest, he didn't. despite what they'd done and how they'd woken up, lucas would never think of using roxy for her body (however perfect it was) or objectifying her by it. she still had his respect, and he didn't want to lose hers by oggling at her while she was most vulnerable. still, though he did divert his eyes as she pulled on his shirt, he supposed he might have been able to move thm a little bit faster. the view he got in that short moment of time sent the butterflies in flight in his stomach again, memories of their night crashing back in his brain, doing nothing to calm the butterflies. "how's it look?" lucas looked back to her, hoping his cheeks weren't tinged pink with a blush, and let his eyes take in what he'd asked for. "there needs to be a word better than 'perfect'," he informed her, then adding like an afterthought, "and the shirt looks pretty damn awesome on you, too." it was good to be cheesy, to be himself without the awkwardness and self-denial. it felt right. far more right than 'just friends' had ever been.
swinging his legs over the side of his bed, waist still covered by bedsheets, lucas leaned across to the top drawer of his dresser and pulled out plaid maroon boxers that he pulled on, back to roxy, before standing back to face her and promptly being distracted by the window behind her head. outside was the perfect picture of a winter wonderland. the giant pine tree beyond his window had branches weighed down to the ground by untouched snow, more of which was falling down past the glass in fat, heavy flakes. "after the... exciting evening we had, i'm sure you're tired... but want to do something that'll really wake us up?" he asked, a mischievous smirk on his face as he tugged a worn pair of blue jeans and a green hoodie on his body. "meet me outside." and with that the teen disappeared, dashing out of the attic and down the narrow flights of stairs that followed, bypassing the floors they gave access to. he had no memory of coming up these stairs last night. roxy had captured his attention completely. nothing else had mattered.
reaching the bottom of the stairs lucas jumped to the floor from four steps up, landing with a 'thud' on both feet. from there it was a few steps to the door, where outside a blanket of paradise awaited him. despite the late morning hour things were practically dead on the street. this town wasn't exactly the most happening place for parties, so most likely the other families on the on the street, wizarding and muggle alike, were in london or elsewhere for the festive holidays. lucas wasn't complaining, he would more than enjoy the peace he and his new-old girlfriend would have.
vaulting over the rail on the steps leading up to the front door, lucas waded through foot deep snow (several inches of it fresh) to the corner of the house where he had a bit of cover. it was cool outside, but not instantly chilly with no wind and the sun beating down on the town from high in the sky, warming things up a fair bit. reaching down he scooped up a handful of the fresh-fallen fluff in his bare hand, grinning as he found it heavy and sticky, perfect. as he waited he moulded the snow into a perfect ball, adding to it from the ground until he was ready to launch it whenever roxy came out the door.

"i love it, roxy. promise." she blushed lightly and gave a small smile, glad that he seemed genuine about it. she didn't want him to say it was good if he would have preferred something else - whether they'd just slept with each other or not. okay ... well not just slept with each other, that was last night. it was almost a shock to think that they really had slept together... they'd well, she could be cliche and say made love, but in honesty she thought they'd been in love a lot longer than that, longer than they'd care to admit to themselves. she had to say she didn't regret it in the slightest, if she could go back to when she'd seen that mistletoe and do things differently.. she wouldn't. she still would have gone to kiss him, she still would have gone upstairs with him. she wouldn't have stopped anything and she didn't think he would have either.
she grinned when he grinned, unable to take her eyes from. lucas. everything was about lucas right now. she didn't know how she was going to be able to leave his house today, or even this bed - it was so warm and comfortable...and it had lucas in it. why would she want to leave? she took the shirt he offered and grinned softly, going to slip it on carefully. she knew some people might call this a mistake- not just sleeping with lucas but the fact that he was one of her ex's. but she didn't think it was. she was in love with him, and he at least seemed to like her back, why couldn't they go back out? they'd always gotten along and right now she didn't wan to be with anyone else, couldn't see herself with anyone else. there needs to be a word better than 'perfect' She blushed, unable to help it as he complimented her. To be honest she could have said the exact same thing to him, she didn't think there was a guy out there who was anything as brilliant as Lucas.
and the shirt looks pretty damn awesome on you, too. she blushed again and looked at him. thank you she said softly and glanced at him as he swung his legs over the bed, shifting up slightly more and unable to help but running her eyes over his chest, gaze automatically drawn to him. She diverted her gaze out of politeness for him, having noticed how he had done the same for her a few moments ago. She loved that he was so respectful of her, she didn't mind him looking she was just a little self conscious was all.
She glanced at him as he stood, eyes sliding over his chest, hesitating on the tattoo, before glancing at his handsome face, raisin an eyebrow as she saw where he was looking. Lucas.. What is it - oh ! she suddenly exclaimed as she turned her head and saw the blanket of white. It looked simply beautiful and she shifted and made to reach over the edge of the bed for her clothes, pulling on her underwear before she moved out of the covers, the shirt do long on her it fell to kid thight;after the... exciting evening we had, i'm sure you're tired... but want to do something that'll really wake us up? she grinned lightly and nodded, watching him grab his clothes and going to start pulling her own clothes on, leaving his shirt on in replacement of the one she'd worn yesterday and she hurried outside after him, back down the stairwell she had no recollection of - too wrapped up in Lucas last night - and suddenly rewarded with a wet slap of snow in her face the moment she opened the door, before she could even see the scenery. luuucas! she squealed with a grin, bending to grab a handful herself and throw some back at him before dashing down the steps and running for cover...

it was cool outside, it was winter so you could expect nothing less, but lucas’ entire body was aglow with energy. he could barely feel the temperatures nipping at his bare arms. he was perfectly comfortable in his limited amount of clothing, too energized and happy to care about any discomfort he might have been feeling in a less ‘high’ state of mind. he had roxy. she was his for, well, the foreseeable future, at the very least. lucas could kiss her. he could hug her. he could hold her and cuddle her and keep her hand wrapped in his as they walked down the halls at hogwarts. he could be standing in the antarctic right now, freezing his ass off, and he would not care because the warmth within his chest was stretching to every limb of his body, keeping his head light and body toasty warm. he would never get tired of this feeling. ever.
he rocked the snowball back and forth in his hands a few times, waiting for the beautiful gryffindor girl to appear. he didn't like predictability. it was boring. it made life too orderly for his taste, and anyone who knew lucas knew that order was just not his style. he could not just have a typical teenage relationship. he needed to joke around, to laugh, to consider roxy his friend first and gorgeous girlfriend second. why couldn't that laughter of their second relationship begin with a snowball fight? he knew that roxy was not going to be the type of girl to freak out at him. she'd be fine with a bit of playfulness. that was why he loved cared about her so much.
and then there she was. with a grin lucas jerked his arm back, letting it fly forward while flinging the loose ball of snow towards her. "luuucas!" he grinned at the squeal, her grin telling him that she wasn't upset. "bullseye!" he chuckled, ducking down to grab some more snow. as he did a loose clump hit his back, sticking to his t-shirt as he straightened just in time to see her dart away. he balled the snow he'd collected in his hand as he ran after her, chucking his new formed snowball at her back. he didn't pause in his run to notice if he hit her the second time or not, a new idea quickly forming in his brain and far too tempting to resist.
his longer legs caught up to her within a few strides, his long arms wrapping around her, pinning her arms to her side. he stretched his neck over her shoulder, turning it to kiss her cheek with his body pressed against her back. "gotcha," he growled playfully, twisting her around in his grasp so that he could place another kiss on her lips.

roxy was surprised by how warm she felt despite the cold of the outdoors. she had to assume it was something to do with the warmth lucas had ignited within her, just waking up to him beside her this morning had warmed her insides right to the core, and even the freezing cold of the snow couldn't quell it. she was comfortable in lucas' shirt, and her jeans from yesterday, not bothering with a coat and figuring their antics would warm her up plenty when she dashed outside to be dealt a snowball to the face. she'd shrieked of course, having expected something of the sort - after all lucas was a playful lad, put him in a load of snow and three guesses what he was going to use it to do.
but her shriek wasn't one of anguish or upset, just surprise and laughter as she spun on her heels and hurried away, trying to find some form of cover so she could get her own back on him. it had been a long while since roxy had messed about in the snow. being the oldest of sisters they weren't always so keen upon the cold white stuff, mostly complaining about what it did to their hair or make-up, or that they'd fall over. roxy didn't care about that, she was too much about the 'have as much fun as you can while you can' motto, and it was nice to get a chance to muck around...especially with lucas. he was so easy to have a good time with, being so carefree and relaxed and just a good laugh... she'd missed this, and she was glad that last night had happened - so incredibly glad. it was times like this she realised how much she'd really missed him.
sure they had become friend's again, but being friend's was not the same as being 'with' somebody. it was a different closeness, and you were always a little bit unsure about the boundaries afterward, could you hug or would that over step the mark? she was lucky her and lucas had retained their easy-going relationship after they'd broken up and gotten past the awkward stage, but still only now how she realised how much she'd missed really hugging him, and kissing him, and knowing that he was hers and she was his. it was hard to run in the snow, but she dug her shoed feet into the soft flakes, compacting it, and trying to propel herself forward as she heard lucas shout "bullseye!"
roxy laughed lightly and shook her head, slowing her steps and spinning round to face him, she ducked, grabbed a handful and flung it at him. probably not quite as good at aiming or power as he was, but she was decent enough - after all she was alternate keeper on the quidditch team which was something - and then once she saw it hit target she grinned and made to dart away again, intent on hiding. she felt another pelt of snow hit her back and laughed lightly, almost squealing again as she tried to keep running. it was only a half hearted escape attempt really and so it didn't surprise her when she heard him coming up behind her, until suddenly his long arms were around her.
laughing breathlessly, roxy slid to a stop, pinned in his warm hold, a huge grin on her face. she felt his head stretch over her shoulder - no surprise there considering he was so much taller than her - and she turned her head to face him, blushing faintly as his lips touched her cheek. "gotcha," she heard him growl and she couldn't help but giggle lightly. "oh really?" she teased and turned as he made to twist her to face him. "now what're you going to do with me?" she couldn't help but add, a light tease to her smile, a twinkle in her eye, and then they were kissing. she wrapped her arms gently around his neck and pulled herself closer, unable to help but think that so far, this was the best morning she'd ever had (including her birthdays and christmas' so far.)
