Dareious knew he was woefully underdressed for the weather. It wasn't like there was much meat on him to keep him warm either. It was getting late, but he was restless. Maybe the copious amounts of sugar and sheer amount of winding him up has something to do with it. He was so easy to get wound up though - too much noise and too many bright colours had him bouncing off walls and playing don't touch the floor. He was, in truth, still the biggest child going - a little fact he liked to revel in. Of course, he wasn't all go all the time though. He could be calm, even if it took him a while to wind down. He had been toying with making this walk around the lake part of his daily routine, just before curfew so he wasn't winding everyone else up when they wanted to sleep. Part of him wanted to say they'd bought it on themselves, but he wasn't that cruel, not really. He did have a heart, unlike some of his peers.
The sun was just starting to fall though, and the temperature was starting to plummet with it. He wasn't a fan of the cold, he wouldn't lie, but it wasn't like he was that far from the castle. That, and there was still plenty of time before curfew kicked in. He had time to get back to that pretty little sett with all the people he loved. Well, not all of them...some of them at least. He liked the idea of it though - somewhere that warm and cozy filled with everyone he cared for so deeply. Almost like...a home? A real home though. Some place where people really gave a damn about each other. He'd had a place like that once, and then a stranger walked in and ruined it all. He had often wondered if killing Andrew would make things go back to how they were,b ut it was a thought he would throw from his mind just as quickly as it entered. He wasn't like that - he was not violent. He'd worked too hard to keep himself in check and balanced. He would not let that part of him beat everything else. Rage could be controlled and it didn't have a place in his life.
He paused at the edge of the lake, watching that giant squid surface for just a moment before disappearing again, it's great and terrible shadow lost in the ever darkening waters. He knew it would be wiser to go back now, but he still had a little time. Still enough to wait it out a little longer. He didn't want to go back yet - he didn't want to be confined by walls and rules. He wanted to forget it for a moment. Still - he knew it was going to happen. He knew he was going to go back to rules and conventions soon enough. But not right now. Shivering a little, he rubbed his arms in some attempt to put a little warmth back in to him. Good lord he hated this cold, but what could he do? There was no changing the weather.

jasper shoved his hands into the pockets of his jackets and walkedo ut of the castle. he wasnt hungry, dinner had just finished, or so he thought anyway. it was optional he reckoned, you ate when you wanted to skipped when you felt like it. he ran his hand through his black hair and moved toward the lake. it was a nice night, he had no idea why he was wearing a jacket, probably from the few times seyton had found him walking around while it was snowing outside without one on. the only bad thing about having a nurse for a brother he thought.
he chewed his lip as he thought about what his brother was going through, his girlfriend getting pregnant, him beating himself up about what had happened to her years ago. and jasper thought that kinda drama only happened in soap opera's. he grinned slightly and shook his head. he'd get through it, greybacks were tough, maybe a little too tough but that wasn't the point. jasper was grateful it wasn't a full moon tonight, he didn't have to worry about one for a little while, which was good. absently he touched his hand to the scar that ravaged his neck and he frowned a little, he rolled his shoulders slightly and shifted his head but still, he felt it. he was getting more used to it now, but it was still bugging him. after all, it wasn't even a month old yet.
he spotted a familiar figure by the lake and he grinned slightly. one of his older brothers. jasper didnt bother calling them half, they were his family end of. even if some of them had turned to the dark side. he saw how underdressed he was to be out here and he rolled his eyes and slipped off his own jacket, his body heat wa higher than that of a human, one of the perks of being a werewolf he guessed. he walked up to his brother and slung the jacket over his shoulder. "you'll freeze ya know . . then you'll have seyton after you" he said with a grin as he dropped to the ground next to his brother and looked over the lake.

Had he missed dinner again? He wasn't sure. Yeah, he ate like a pig when he was there, but he was really only there when he was with a group. His body didn't always remind him that he needed to eat several times a day, every day. It wasn't exactly his fault, was it? It wasn't like he asked to be shut out on that island every single time he went home. No, if it was up to him, he'd be on mainland, constantly surrounded by people he could get to know. He'd be with his mother if it was up to him, and Andrew would be thousands of miles away from them. Seth too for that matter. Still, right now they weren't around and he was, relatively, safe. Even Hogwarts could be hazard to one's health if one was not careful.
Still, all in all his life seemed pretty charmed right now. It could have been far worse for him. He knew everyone had their issues and his couldn't have been that bad over all. It wasn't like this had been constant - just since Andrew had turned up. Other than that, things were good. He had plenty of friends really, he did OK so far as school work went, he had his life mapped out already. What was a few weeks of solitude here and there? No, he knew his siblings had to have it harder than him at the moment. Really, he did need to get to know them better. Still, he didn't want to look like he was taking sides. He kept his distance from them, with the exception of Echo, so he could better evaluate just who was going down the right path.
"you'll freeze ya know . . then you'll have seyton after you" Something broke in to his little worl - a voice and the shift of something heavy. He near enough jumped out of his skin, far too used to such pressure coming from a hand on his shoulder or something similar. Usually, that would lead to some sort of impact for some crime he'd committed. Even if that wasn't the case here, he couldn't help his reactions. "If you say so." Truth was, he was pretty sure Sey had more important things to worry about right about now. Nothing definite, but it was a feeling nonetheless. Pulling the jacket around him, he dragged his mind out of his lovely little home and in to the present. It wasn't that long ago he'd left it, but part of him did wonder how much longer it would last. The winds weren't kind and it had been wet, not to mention cold. All that expansion and retraction, plus the affects of the elements on already weak walls could well be devastating to the ageing structure. Was it too much to want assurance that it wasn't going to fall apart on him? "Besides, the cold doesn't bother me." With a smile and a shake of his head, he was back in the room...so to speak.
Looking over at the person, it took a moment for it to register as one of his brothers. Jasper, actually. It was the scar that did it for him, kicked his mind in to gear as he pulled it on. Despite being the older of them, Dare was the smaller of the two. There was less of...everything to him. Apart from personality - nobody could accuse him of lacking personality, or confidence for that matter. His gaze followed his brothers out over the lake. The odd tree and the masses of bushes smothered the other side, making it hard to pick out details. The odd break in green gave way to the grey slate and dull gravel beaches. They weren't really beaches though, were they? More place that people stood on good days. "How have you been?"

jasper couldn't help but frown when he jumped. he hadn't meant to scare the guy, and he'd have been sure that his brother would have heard the footsteps coming up behind him, even being a part werewolf turned up your sense's a little. "sorry dare" he said as he shifted back and made to sit down beside him. though he knew what it was like to be jumpy, had known since his father had attacked him the first time, the second time, had snapped jasper out of it. he'd realised that he wasn't as weak, and now, well now he didn't really have a reason to fear anyone. if someone was out to hurt him, well it was better than him hurting someone else, or so his reasoning was anyway. grinning he folded his arms across his chest and brought his knee's up to rest against. he'd be okay without a jacket, he didn't feel the cold so much any more.
"If you say so." "Besides, the cold doesn't bother me." jasper nodded with a slight grin and he looked at dare again. "yeah i do say so . . i know so . . he'd be on you faster than mosquito's in a swamp if he'd seen it" he rested his chin on his arm, relaxed as some would call it as he glanced at the lake again. "he cares too much sometimes" jasper said softly and he shook his head with a slight grin. "so what brings you all the way out here? . . the view? . . hopes of meeting some pretty girl? . . " he said, trying to lighten the mood. he wasnt as close to dare as he'd like to be, but he'd be trying. he loved his siblings, he really did, they were the only family he had left now, and in some weird way, a way that he ccouldnt understand, he loved their youngest brother, the evil thing that he was too.
he saw dare glance at his scar and he couldn't help but scratch at it absently. he did it when people looked at it. he knew it was there, it was getting less painful, but not less noticeable. it would fade over time, but it wouldn't go away completely. it was amazing that now he knew who his actual friends were. the ones that stuck with him, through being bitten, and knowing what he could do to them, they were the ones he knew were true friends, not the ones that had run at the sight of it. though, he couldn't hold it against them, it was understandable for people to be afraid of what they didn't understand. "How have you been?" the words cut through his thoughts like a knife and he turned his attention back to his brother.
he shrugged slightly "eh not bad . . grades are finally picking up . . weather's been good . . me and nikki are still on the right track . . full moon's still a little bit away . . so yeah i'd say good" he said as he rubbed his hands up his arms slightly as he felt goose bumps spread. yeah it wasn't cold, but it was cool, and he was just starting to feel it. "what about you . . how you been? . . got any interesting plans in the next few days i can crash?" he asked with a grin. he was more open with his siblings, more inclined to have a bit of fun with them than other people he didn't know, it was just one of his quirks he guessed.

On most other days, under most other circumstances, Dareious would have heard. He would have known. Anyone who knew how Dare got would know come tomorrow morning, he’d be beyond wired and unable to sleep at all for a few days. If he could get any sleep tonight, it would go a long way to keeping him sane. Nobody ever really looked forward to a few days of awful Dareious. They came when he thought too much, when the moon was coming or, rarest of all, when home sent him a letter. There were days that made him worse, days when you could see what he liked to call his beast at the very edge of its cage. Pacing backwards and forwards, raging at the slightest taunt, just dying for a reason to break away from his usual nature. There had been a comment made once; if this was Dare only half werewolf, then turning him was out of the question. He would be beyond control. Sure, he was small and light…but he was near enough suicidal some months. You’re twice his size? Fine, he’ll just take out your kneecaps first. You’re armed and taunting him? He’s not stupid and he’s a damn sight quicker than you think. Besides, he’ll make you bleed too. Monster; he deserved the name some times.
"yeah i do say so . . i know so . . he'd be on you faster than mosquito's in a swamp if he'd seen it" He knew Seyton cared…but lately he found himself not really giving a damn. He wanted space from it all – he didn’t like people getting too close. They only stabbed you in the back in the end, or so was his experience. Hel, he was even starting to set back from some of his friends. Some of them had tried to point it out and, as much as he agreed with them, he couldn’t change it. Home and contact did this to him; he pulled back and tried to keep space. With a shrug, he knocked loose pebbles around with his hands before curing in to himself; arms wrapped around legs and face half buried in his knees. He liked being small.
"so what brings you all the way out here? . . the view? . . hopes of meeting some pretty girl? . . " Why was he out here in the first place? The same reason he had every time he was on his own. His only acceptable reason, in all reality. “Dreams.” Staring out at the water, he couldn’t help sighing. Nightmares, dreams, it didn’t matter; he didn’t need to specify. They were worse at the moment and he was too tired to figure out why. Too tired, not eating, snapping at people and jumping at his shadow. Truth is, with full knowledge of all those he should have been able to tell something wasn’t right, but it hadn’t dawned on him for some reason. “If I’m tired enough, I don’t wake anyone up.” he tried to explain, knowing they had something of a reputation growing around them. He refused point blank to deal with them in any way, knowing what played in his mind was bad enough without having to explain it to others. They usually had some sort of charm up to keep things muffled at more predictable times, like around the full moon, but no-one had seen this bout coming. “It doesn’t stop them, but…” he tailed off, unfolding himself. He knew Jasper was trying to make things less…doom and gloom. He wasn’t helping at all. “Besides, no girl wants to be with someone prettier than them.”
“eh not bad . . grades are finally picking up . . weather's been good . . me and nikki are still on the right track . . full moon's still a little bit away . . so yeah i'd say good" Good, he couldn’t help nodding as Jasper spoke. Things were going well for him and that was good. And at least the full moon wasn’t around to make him even more irritable than he was – Dare had breathing room. "what about you . . how you been? . . got any interesting plans in the next few days i can crash?" How…how was he? Swallowing back hat lump when he thought, he found his voice after a few moments silence. As cracked and quiet as it was, it was his voice and his words. “Got a letter from home. Mama’s not well – Andrew says I have to go back as soon as I can." There was a sadness in his voice that one could mistake for love, though it was more fear than anything. Mama…that oh so sacred word. There was a good chance darling Andrew was just manipulating the whole thing, possibly even lying through his teeth to make Dare suffer. A favourite little game of his. Dare’s tears had dried up years ago; people took him as perpetually happy, but it was simply that he was too numb to cry over anything. He was far too desensitised to horrors that life presented. Maybe in a way we was more prepared to change than people thought, too blank to care what happened to him. He was damaged, even if he hid it well. Hell, the thought had crossed his mind once or twice ever since he’d found out the truth…but then he drifted to his other siblings. Those who’d had a chance at knowing something of their father. Father…hardly. A donor and nothing more: he’d been beaten, abandoned, abused…and Fenrir had done nothing to try and stop it. He’d done nothing to try and protect his precious children. If he ever did let it happen then Fen was in the first three he was going after, though not for the reasons most would come up with. “Shouted at a first year, got shit for it…you know how it is.” Sniffing a little, he buried his face back in to his knees, talking in to his legs. He didn’t want to look up or repeat himself, a little ashamed of it…and how the hell did he have a cold already? Honestly. He really did have to have the worst immune system in existence. And plans? Well, plans beyond not trying to kill the next purist to make one out of place comment? “No, no plans…I don’t ever plan anything. Things just tend to happen.”
