The tournament was easily becoming the most exciting part of this year, if it hadn't been already for most of the student body. It was one of the quickest ways to strike up a conversation with a fellow housemate, or get into an argument should one feel like stirring up trouble with a rival house. Unfortunately, the gryffindors didn't have much to talk about, since their champions had ended up in a shockingly last place in the first task. However, Dani had high hopes for them this time, if anything just to have the house spirit. James was a good friend as well. It would reflect poorly of him if he had remained pessimistic on how well the other boy would do. After all, he knew what the Potter was capable of and the drive the guy had in him. The gryffindors wouldn't be in last place again if he had a say in it.
Either way, it was shaping up to be a very exciting day, and he had the privilege to spend it with quite the wonderful woman. The brunette passed a wide grin over to Lily as they made their way over to the Forbidden Forest. It was shaping up to be a cold day, and the gryffindor had made sure to dress up warmly for the event, while remaining spirited for the occasion. The weather was a little too chilly to go for the fun, bare-chested painting, but he had decided on using his face as the canvas instead, painting one half of his face maroon and the other half gold. He fussed with that for such a long time in his dorm this morning that he nearly missed breakfast, but even as he scrambled to get down there to meet with Lily, he didn't hesitate on dedicating a few minutes in painting streaks on his friend's cheeks before eating.
Frankly, he couldn't have asked for a better companion to accompany him to the second task this morning and was willing to admit that much of his excitement likely came from spending much of the day with the redhead. He was pleasantly surprised to realize how close they had gotten over the past few months, especially after the yule ball. Dani wasn't willing to assume anything (it tended to be disastrous to get ahead of himself), but he certainly enjoyed the direction their friendship was taking. Lily had been such an enjoyment to have around that he almost couldn't help but be a little nervous about everything as well-- which didn't really suit him at all. The brunette did his best to just place it as nerves.
”Ah, today is gonna be good,” he exclaimed as they neared the stands, ”I can just feel it! And I want to say thank you for coming with me today. I know it'll be a good day because of it.” He took a step onto the bleacher and then offered his hand out for Lily, already looking for a free spot for the two of them to take their seat. Though they had arrived early enough, seats were filling up rather quickly. Understandable, really. Ah well, he'd stand if he needed to. The gryffindor had a feeling he'd be standing up a lot anyway. ”Would you prefer somewhere high up, near the ground, or somewhere in between?”

honestly, if not for dani, lily doubted she would be here right now. yeah, it was the right place to be, supporting her own house, especially since her brother was one of the gryffindor champions, but... she didn't want to. if anything she wanted to cheer for slytherin, knowing that her more trusted brother's two best friends were its champions, or hufflepuff, where her cousin represented his house, or ravenclaw, where one of her closest friends was the male champion. she could think of a good reason to cheer for every single house, but the one that she couldn't was the one she'd have to cheer for to look like a proper gryffindor and a proper potter.
it sucked.
but she was here, and with dani to make it all better. honestly she couldn't think of a single person she would rather spend the time with. even though she should, technically, still be cheering for her brother it would be easier to enjoy the event and joke around about it with dani than any of her other friends. the aformentioned other friends had been understanding of her decision to split from the pack, as it was, to attend the task with the older gryffindor. they hadn't been blind to the amount of time that the littlest potter and he had been spending together, in fact it sometimes seemed that they'd made it their own private homework to tease her about it regularly, but the great thing about friends was that they knew just how much pressure to apply before backing off and avoiding her blowing up at them. she didn't like being smothered about crushes or boys who were friends... especially not when she was still trying to decide if there was anything going on there or not.
she wasn't dressed extremely festive for the day. jeans, a maroon and white plaid shirt, black boots, and a black jacket unbuttoned. that was all she wore. most festive was probably the paint she'd allowed dani to brush across her cheek, showing off her 'pride' for her house. she hadn't gone to see james this morning, finding no desire within her to do so. whether she saw him or not made no difference. he'd get enough well wishes from his admirers.
”ah, today is gonna be good, i can just feel it! and i want to say thank you for coming with me today. i know it'll be a good day because of it.” she'd had to learned to stop herself from reading too much into the little comments he made... they would drive her insane, and as jaycen had told her when she'd spoken to him, girls thought about things way more than guys did. to dani his little comments were probably just that. meaningless. "i couldn't just leave you planning on sitting all alone," she teased lightly. to tell the truth there really wasn't anyone else she would wish to spent the day with more. she always had fun around dani, and that could not be promised for anyone else.
she blushed slightly as she took his hand to help herself up onto the bleachers, trying to ignore how the contact made her skin tingle, and looked around at the other people already finding seats. it seemed like the bleachers were a rainbow of colors, or rather roughly red, green, blue, and yellow. the entire school had come out for the event. ”would you prefer somewhere high up, near the ground, or somewhere in between?” "high up," she decided almost immediately. "there's a better view. ...that is, if you don't mind?"

It was hard to remove the smile from his face. Everything was just brimming with a certain amount of energy and excitement that it was hard not to try and match it. It was better to play it cool for right now though. Fun as it could be at times, Dani really didn't want to go barreling into other students in a fantastic and reckless showing of his energy. That would be a day where maybe the gryffindor felt a little destructive-- and felt like getting a few enemies maybe. Most didn't like the idea of being shoved to the floor by what was probably a completely random strange, or in a slytherin's case, some “idiotic gryffindor.”
The chilly weather helped to curb that enthusiasm some, but Lily more than made up for it. He could admit in rather enjoying the position their friendship was in at the moment, even if he had to practice some patience before pushing things any further. He didn't want to push the redhead away, or rushing things and ultimately ruining something they had rekindled just recently. Of course, he would have to step up at some point. He wouldn't mind asking about it depending on how the day went, but one step at a time. The gryffindor would rather just enjoy the day for a good while first. He hoped Lily would enjoy the day as well, and would do his best to make sure of such.
A smile came quickly to Dani's lips as heard Lily. ”I must be one of the luckiest men in the world then,” the gryffindor teased lightly, ”To have a fine woman be so thoughtful as to accompany me.” Really, Lily had been the best choice to ask to accompany him. He could've asked anyone else, but Lily had proven to be the best to play off of. Quite simply, it was a natural choice, and he couldn't be happier about it. Indeed, today was festive, and he thought of no better way to spend it. He had good hopes for everything really, and was looking forward to cheering and commenting on the task with the redhead next to him.
”High up it is then!” the brunette announced with a large smile, guiding them up the bleachers while keeping his old on the younger gryffindor's hand. ”I don't mind at all. A spectacular view is an excellent idea.” Already, he could feel the excitement for the day's events returning. However, he made sure not to move too quickly, in case he tripped Lily up. He stopped near the highest point of the bleachers, waving his hand over the filling benches. ”Take you pick, m'dear.” Personally, he'd prefer near the edge himself. It'd be easier to move down or up should one of them wanted to get a snack or something.
