Payton wandered along the grounds, her hands tucked deep in her coat pockets. For being November, it wasn't too cold out today. There wasn't even a wind blowing! She moved down the long stone steps that lead to the gamekeepers cabin, her soft ballet flats making no noise. She wandered around the cabin for a bit, kicking around stones, picking flowers, just hanging out. Deciding that she would rather be at the lake instead, where she could enjoy the view, and maybe even freeze it to go ice skating, Pay left, her flowers sitting on a stone bench next to the cabin.
Treading downhill through the dead grass, Pay made sure that her feet didn't get caught in it and trip her. Reaching the lake, she sat down at the shore, her feet just inches away from the water. Bringing her legs up close to her body, she rested her chin on her knees. She had been really tired lately. Closing her eyes, she drifted off into a dream world, where she was the swan of the swan lake production. Sighing deeply, she smiled and watched herself dancing the part of the princess and the evil princess. Opening her eyes, she found herself actually up and moving, dancing those steps. She blushed, since she hadn't even noticed that she'd been dancing. She sat back down on the ground, then laid down, her curls fanning out around her.
Spreading her arms and legs wide, she acted as if she was making a snow angel. Oh how she wished it would snow! Her favorite season was fall, but she thought snow was so pretty. It was soft, and fluffy, and she loved making snowmen and snow angels. The sound of approaching footsteps made her open her eyes, but her inner Luna Lovegood kept her body anchored to the ground, still laying spread eagle.

Seizel was idly wondering how he had been talked into teaching Payton this and was still trying to figure out why he was even going out in this cold weather in the first place. Not bothering to wear the usual warm clothing and instead had just a regular button-up navy blue shirt on with blue jeans that seemed to do for him. Along with black and white sneakers hiding navy blue socks. Curly hair looking like he had just showered, but it just naturally looked that way sometimes. Considering he hated using gel in general, but even wizarding gel wasn't something he would be caught using either. Deciding to bring his chess set out since this was obviously going to be a long ass game he figured, but he supposed he could wait it out.
If Alaya were here, he was sure things would have went much smoother, but he knew she had bigger and better things to do. Plus being the duel captain leader could do that, and also one of the champions on top of that. Amusing as he found that, it seemed to him that he was going to have to make the best of this without getting too cozy. Payton was desirable in her own way, but not someone he'd consider dating anytime at all. Even if they were the last two people on Earth he'd rather cut off his own arms to give them to her to survive. Anything beyond that was off limits since he would need his legs to swim like a tad pole in case it came down to being stranded on an island.
Or just transfiguring objects into food would work, and now as he was lost in thought as his eyes caught sight of Payton up ahead just gazing at the sky. It looked like she was zoning out as he approached her and soon just sat there in front of her for a moment or two. Looking at her curiously as if she were crazy for a moment, but soon he snapped his fingers to wake her up as he was slowly setting up the pieces. They seemed to walk on their own on where they wanted to move. "I wouldn't sleep out here," was all he said in greeting. Seizel really wasn't one for words...more for actions than anything.

Payton looked up at Seizel as he stared down at her. He snapped his fingers and she blinked, Sitting up, she brushed the leaves and dirt from her hair before crossing her legs and sitting in front of him. He clearly wasn't one to show emotion. Or talk much. She'd just met him the other day, so she wasn't sure if he was always like this, or if he was just like this around her. She watched the pieces slide across the board to their spots. Not used to seeing this, Payton's eyes widened. In the muggle world, you put the pieces out yourself, not the other way around.
His comment of advice to her made her raise her eyebrows. Why shouldn't she sleep out here? Nobody was around. It was cold out, so not many people would want to come down to the lake. She crossed her arms and watched him. "Why shouldn't I sleep out here? What could possibly happen to me?" She could be somewhat blonde sometimes, so she didn't see that there could in fact be some danger in her laying out here by the lake. By herself. Where nobody could see her. Or hear her. So maybe it wouldn't exactly be a good idea to sleep out here again.
"Thanks for agreeing to teach me Wizard's Chess. I haven't even played chess in the muggle world. Which is weird considering I'm muggleborn." Babbling on about being a muggleborn, she looked around in the sky, rolling her eyes and flicking her hands every which way while she talked, emphasizing her points. Then she realized that the board was all set up, so she moved her hand towards a piece, one that looked like a horse with a man on top. A knight? It swung its sword at her fingers and she made a noise that sounded a bit like an "eep!" Pulling her hand back, she held it with the other one. "What was that about?" she asked incredulously.

Seizel was certainly amused as she tried to hit the knight that had swatted her with it's sword, but she deserved it for trying to antagonize the chess pieces. After all, this was a living chess set that did take offense to being injured or touched in unwary ways that would injure their own users. Remembering that you had to issue commands to your little soldiers to move them forwards, but he wasn't going to go into immense detail about it. After all, there was little to explain when it came to Wizard's chess, but Seizel was a blood prodigy at it...never really having anything to do with the bloody game itself. Even if it was just something that someone made up on the spot with too much time on their hands.
Seizel did consider one of the best inventions wizards could have ever come up with, but people like Payton almost made it fun to teach someone else for a change. Even if they did try to massacre their own hands by putting it on the market for slaughter to some puny knight that could have probably decapitated her pinky finger clean off. Strange as that sounded, he just shrugged his shoulders towards her not saying much, and being a man of little words was now proving to be true. Eyes glazed over as if he was in thinking mode and then spoke to her, "If you're new to this you'll lose in less than four moves," he stated rather suddenly. Seizel was never one to hide the truth.
"The pieces are self-conscious about their good looks and like to act like they don't care about women at all..cause underneath they're all soft," which caused a reaction from the whole chess board with the little figurines shaking their fists at him and giving him rather rude gestures. Seizel smiled down callously at them and then raised an eyebrow as if reminding them what happened last time they had done that. Suddenly they had turned away from Seizel's serious killer gaze that could instantly stone anyone if they looked too long, but that was just a saying. Mostly he was a nice guy as he then finished speaking to her, "Anyways, as I was saying, these guys don't like being touched and you have to voice your commands like night to a4 or whatever number that is on the board," he said to her.
Then as he was explaining would have her move her pieces in the set order, whatever that was, to help her learn the first basic strategy of deploying a three turn kill without any effort. Seizel was ready to repeat this process one hundred times until she successfully used it on him, but he was of course playing defensively to taunt her until he let her win at least one.

Still sucking on her injured finger, Payton looked up at Seizel. Clearly there was a lot to learn about chess and how to play. He seemed put off that she had tried to grab the little man though. But really, how was she supposed to know? In the Muggle world, you handle the pieces yourself! The knight shook his tiny little fist at her and she glared at it, moving to flick it off the board, then thought better of it. Narrowing her eyes as she watched them all riot against Seizel, she decided she wasn't all that trusting of these pieces.
She looked back up to him and listened. So, voice commands huh? Well, she would have to concentrate and figure out which square was which then. The pieces were all lined up in their spots now, at least she thought they were, so she looked down at the board. "I don't think it would be fun to lose in four moves," she drawled, her southern twang filling the chilly air. Placing her hand on her chin, she wasn't sure what to say. "So I just say something like, knight to A4-" Cutting herself off she watched in indignation as the knight then moved to that spot. Furious she whipped out her wand. "The little prat! I didn't want to move, I wanted advice!" She could already tell that this was going to be a long game, and that Seizel was surely going to get irritated.
"I'm sorry, its just that sometimes I get frustrated easily. And why did he move like that? All I was doing was asking a question. And now my move is over!" Indignant, Payton went to jab the knight with her wand but was rewarded with another scratch on her finger from him instead. Apparently they didn't enjoy being prodded either..... Sticking her wand back in her boot top, Payton looked up at Seziel. He was so studious, all the time! She'd seen him in the library and he was always so quite around others. She wondered if all he did was study, fly, and be quiet. Placing her palm on the grass, she enjoyed the cool lushness of it. It wouldn't be this way forever. It would soon be brown and crumpled and covered in snow. She loved the smell of grass and it always made her sad when the winter came. It was probably her least favorite season.
Snapping out of her grass related trance she looked back at the board, saw no more moves, and then looked at the older boy. Smiling pleasantly she pulled her hands into her lap, tangled her fingers together, and raised her shoulders, her blonde hair tumbling down her chest to almost touch her hands. "So can you teach me any secrets? I happen to know someone who would be interested in playing this game, but he's much smarter and wittier than I, so I want to have some secrets up my sleeve to beat him!"

Seizel knew this would take time, but he shrugged his shoulders while deciding what to say. Sure he was rather quiet most of the time, but he had to admire Payton since she was an incredibly attractive girl in her own rights. Not really Seizel's type, however, he didn't have much room to say that since he was going out with a werewolf and he knew what she was to begin with too. Maybe it was just fate that this was happening to him, even as he watched the knight moving forward and then prick her finger again. Luckily for them it hadn't started snowing yet otherwise the pieces would have rioted against him for keeping them out in the cold not like they could feel it.
Seizel rarely showed any compassion during a game at all, but this time he was deciding if he should at least show a little with Payton since she had requested to teach her about chess. Regarding the fact he was the head of the wizarding chess club and had experience with this kind of thing. Forcing Deimos to play this game had been his idea from the very start, however, there was also the fact he was indeed the Ravenclaw quidditch captain on top of that. None of those things really mattered in a game of chess other than the fact he could beat her literally within four moves.
Considering she thought that was boring, it wasn't a good game for her to learn in the first place then. "Well we can stop if it bores you, but I'm afraid once you start you have to finish, yes there is a secret. If you can move fast enough to take out your opponent's king right away then you'll win. There's only one sure-fire strategy for that, here let me show you...just play along and move your knights and pawns to where I say to to show you how this works," he said to her, starting to point towards the queen, the bishop and then the rook after moving the other pawns forward so they had a clear path to do so. Seizel was showing her the long way, but ten moves later, she would have him at check mate already.
So now here they were ten moves later, and letting her follow each of his commands as he rallied his troops for defeat. "Very good, you think you can catch on quicker than that? I have some hope in you now," he said to her, smiling warmly.

Payton sucked on her finger for a moment, trying to make it stop bleeding. Then she watched as Seizel told her exactly what pieces to move. The game passed by quickly, in no more than ten minutes. First one piece was moved, as if to distract the other player, then another swooped in to destroy a piece of the opposite team. She clapped her hands, memorizing the moves of each piece and where they went. Seizel was warming up after each move, talking about different strategies. He was friendlier and friendlier every minute.
"I think that I can remember all of those moves. Why don't we play another game?" She trailed off when the first snowflake began to fall. A soft smile came over her features are she watched it tumble slowly to the chess board. Before it could hit it, she caught it in her hand. Upon touching her skin it melted into a pool of water. Grinning she looked up into the sky, where millions more were falling down on them. Looking back at Seizel, she stood up.
"Why don't we go ice skating! You can't tell me that the big brave Quidditch captain is too afraid to skate!" Jumping up and down for a minute, she pulled out her wand and waved it towards the lake, freezing it over with one simple spell. Then she pointed to her shoes and transfigured them into ice skates. Hobbling over to the lake she placed a skate on it and glided out over the ice while the snow fell thicker and thicker. Grinning at Seizel she waved him over. He had shown her how to play chess, she could show him how to skate. Unless he knew how, then they could just have fun together.
Digging a toe pick into the ice, Payton pushed off and spun three times in the air and landed gracefully on the ice, gliding away. Grinning, she slid to a halt, ice spraying off her skates. Not only was she a good dancer, she was a good skater.

Seizel was not surprised that anyone would find this game boring, but he supposed it was within good reason. It wasn't the first time he had seen snow fall but he supposed he shouldn't be a party pooper now that she had taught him a little about herself too without her knowing it. Seizel was indeed always studying his partner, and found her to be rather intriguing, yet her apparent lack of attention was already obvious. Chuckling softly at that, but it wasn't the first time snow would fall either. Not wanting to ruin her fun though as he watched her put on ice skates and then Seizel had to decide what he wanted to do.
Pointing his own wand at his feet and decided to have it cover itself in ice too as they seemed to be rather hard to chisel off. Magical ice was certainly impossible to break or metl especially since Payton was the one that had made the ice appear on the lake near them. Curiously watching the ice crystals slowly form over the entire lake and was glad he could at least partake in this miracle of nature. Seizel remembered just how much he loved magic and the fact he knew everything there was about muggles too. Seizel's skates were a little backwards though considering he had never ever done this with anyone before. Curiously testing the ice as if he was scared it would break due to his weight.
"Ice skating, never done it, do muggles do it often?" he asked curiously, putting his one foot on the ice as he wobbled over every time he thought of just sliding along the ice. Although he really did know how to skate, but this was a new and dangerous territory for him. This would involve a bonding moment that he wouldn't live down from Deimos, and was considering just smashing up the ice. Although, he didn't want her death to be on his conscience and he was a lot nicer than that anyways. Only a truly evil person would have done that and then refrozen the ice over her.
Seizel finally smiled, just letting himself have fun for a change, and as soon as he touched the ice, landed right on his back. It hurt like hell, but the way he had slipped was a common mistake for beginners it seems...although his skates were...very pixel looking and not meant for skating on. "Son of a blast-ended skrewt!" he yelled out in pain.

Payton giggled behind her hand as she watched him step cautiously out onto the ice. Before she could skate over to help him though, he crashed to the ground, swearing vehemently. She quickly skated over to him and helped him up, her tiny hands pulling on his arms. "Well first of all, you should have transfigured your shoes into skates, like I did." Taking her wand out, she did that for him, the ice coming off his shoes to be replaced with boots with blades on them, like hers.
Helping him up, she quickly let go of him. She knew he had a girlfriend, it must be weird to be out here with someone who was clearly not your girlfriend. Payton skated a few feet away and waved her hands. "Come on Seizel, you can do it!" She chuckled. He'd never been on skates before? For her it came naturally. She'd been ice skating forever, since she lived back in the USA. She of course had gone to the rinks then, because Tennessee didn't exactly have frozen ponds. But she'd gone with her father.
"Yes, the muggles really enjoy this. There are even sports named after it. Like hockey, where they play as teams to score points by scoring goals on another team in that team’s net.” She stopped talking about hockey then, because most likely than not he had no clue what that was. As she helped him to his feet should couldn’t help but giggle again, aware that he clearly had no clue how to ice skate. Holding his hands to steady him, she waited until he had his footing. Linking arms with him, she skated backwards, still facing him. They moved slowly along, and Payton hoped that he could get the hang of it soon. Otherwise she would have to come up with some sort of spell to get him to not get hurt whenever he fell. Or maybe do spells to have him not fall.
Payton pulled her wand out and summoned her mittens from her dorm room, and some gloves for him as well. Pulling her’s down over her fingers, she stretched them out a little and flexed her fingers, making sure they fit right. ”Here, use these. Then if you fall again, your hands won’t be cold or get cut up by the ice. I bet you didn’t know ice could do that!” she added, referring to ice cutting people. Payton skated a few feet away, her toe picks digging into the ice to push herself off. Grinning, she enjoyed the feel of the wind in her hair. ”You’re a Ravenclaw Seizel, you will learn it fast enough!” she said back to him, turning her head to watch him try and skate again.

Seizel wasn't really too sure about this as he tried to maintain his balance when he got back up after he felt the skates giving way underneath him making him frown slightly. What was wrong with his skates when they had been formed? This Hufflepuff knew something that he didn't and it almost frustrated him a little, but he wasn't going to make her sound dumb at all by telling her that. No, instead in silent grief he soon muttered something about being goaded into doing this, but he shook his head at that thought. After all this was a free world, and Seizel knew he could have just walked off to leave her to deal with the chess pieces again. Looking back he had almost forgotten about the chess board as the snow w as falling.
Taking out his wand he completely forgot about the lake even after he was some how forced to skate beside her as he was more worried about those chess pieces being ruined at all. Not that it mattered since they could automatically regenerate themselves in the long run, and if they did get damaged that was his own loss. Finally licking his lips as he felt them getting chapped soon used a spell to keep them moist so that wouldn't annoy him either. Trudging awkwardly in the snow towards the set and realized the skates made it that much harder to skid on the snow too. Having landed on the ice had hurt him, but he was ever so more careful on fresh falling snow.
Soon he took his wand out again and cast it at the chest pieces to make sure they got back into the castle in his dormitory where they would be safe. Finally sighing softly as he let it out in relief at having dealt with the nuisance at hand, and finally moved back towards the lake. Making his way towards Payton, he soon started to push back some of his hair at the moment. Finally getting back on to the lake as he finally made his way over to her, and soon he just let his body glide over towards her. It seemed more fluent than last time as he reached her skating in circles around her after he had sort of gotten the hang up of it.
Finally just lacing his arm around hers in return to twirl her on the spot and realized how much fun this ice-skating thing was until he heard her babble about some sport called hockey. No he really had no idea about the muggle world compared to her, but he would sure like to visit more to learn more about it's history. Hell that's what muggle studies was for wasn't it? "I've never done this before, do muggles do this all the time when it's like this outside?" he asked in wonder, the Ravenclaw was actually asking her a question he didn't know the answer to.

Payton watched as Seizel wobbled around a little bit more on his skates, a look of discontent on his face. He was clearly not enjoying this. Maybe her wistful ways were her downfall when it came to getting others to like her. Maybe this whole ice skating thing was a bust. He took out his wand and pointed it to the chess set, making sure the pieces went back to the castle. And then he was skating around her in circles, his mind clearly understanding what ice skating was all about now.
She giggled as he linked arms with her and together they took off skating. It was funny how she, a Hufflepuff, knew more about this than him, a Ravenclaw. He was a pure blood though, so he wouldn't know much of muggle things unless he was taking a muggle studies class. She kicked off the ice with her ice pick, glad to be doing something that she really knew how to do. It was fun to be ahead of a Ravenclaw for once.
"Yes, Muggles do this frequently. I know back in Tennessee we had to go to a skating rink... er, a big building with an ice floor that was kept cold all year round, because ice doesn't usually get thick enough to skate on in the warm state." She thought about it for a moment. How could she further explain this muggle tradition to him? "Sometimes, in colder places, people are out on the ice over a lake like this, and there's lots of people. And music plays, you can buy food from vendors, stuff like that. Usually skating is just in the winter. It's really popular around Christmas," she said.
He was getting much better at this now, something she was happy about. As much as she liked being smarter about the subject, she also didn't want to be coddling him like a baby the whole time. So she was glad that he was catching on so easily. Don't get her wrong, she likes teaching people things, but she sometimes didn't want to take the time to. She was just glad that Seizel could now enjoy something so muggle.

Seizel had caught on pretty fast and now he had a general idea of what was going through her head whenever it came to the other many traditions muggles used for their own recreational sports. If they weren't muggle born wizards then there was no point in just going to the Wizarding World anymore, and enjoying the time of his life. Seizel was just glad it was full of magic no matter where they went, cause a world without magic would seem rather dreary. Life would be impossibly hard without magic, but muggles did that every day so he was sure that Payton was easily able to do nothing without magic. "Well, I don't suppose you use magic there for anything at all do you? I'm used to it most of my life, I've already studied a lot about muggle borns. Never heard a lot about it from an actual source though since I don't talk much to anyone," he said to her.
Seizel was doing jumps and even managed to pull off a brilliant flip as he got used to the dynamics of the ice skates. Almost slipping up on that one, but he managed to do a rather nice landing no matter how slippery it was out here. It was funny how fast he had actually picked up on it, and obviously very good to the point he could probably dance circles around Payton for a change. Instead he moved up to her wrapping his arms around her waist pretending to dance with her as he then let go of her after a little bit as he heard a crack in the ice just then. Stopping instantly and looking down at the lake they had covered in complete ice seemed illogical for him to move any further. Payton would need to listen to him very carefully now, and he knew what this meant along with other problems.
"I heard the whole slab crack, I think that's bad, I can't remember, but if you froze the whole lake then all it will do is rupture a little with that crack in the middle. I suppose we have nothing to worry about as long as the water deep below is frozen too, which I somehow doubt since a whole body of water usually doesn't freeze that far down," he said to her, chuckling slightly as he soon just continued doing whatever he was, spinning in a circle sometimes brushing up against Payton as if he were trying to get fresh with her.

Payton giggled as Steve soon caught on and was skating circles around her. His newly fashioned ice skates certainly were working better than the ones he'd made for himself. Laughing she slowly skated around the lake, watching him enjoy himself. "I don't like relying on magic for everything. I guess its the muggle side of me. I use it because it feels like a part of me." She watched him skate for a few more minutes before placing her foot on the ice to shove off and skate again, when she heard the ice crack.
Clearly her spell didn't work very well, because the ice was starting to break apart. Steve got very serious for a minute, his arms out to have her stop moving. But soon he was laughing and joking about the water down below them not freezing entirely. She laughed nervously, her eyes darting down to watch the ice beneath them, her nerves acting up. She wasn't a big fan of being on this ice now. She hated the fact that any second one of them could fall in, and she was deathly afraid of deep water.
Steve began to skate circles around her, brushing up against her a few times. This took her mind off the cracking ice for a moment and she laughed, skating off to get away from him, igniting a game of chase. About twenty feet away from him, she felt the ice move beneath her skates and made a sound that came out as a 'meep'. Seconds later the ice crumbled beneath her and she went feet first into the freezing water, the air rushing from her lungs in a silent scream. Underneath the water, her skates filled with water and their density began to drag her down. Freaking out, she waved her wand, sparks flying out to slice them off her feet.
Kicking back to where she knew there was fresh air, she hit ice. Realizing that she was a good ten feet from where she had fell through the ice, Payton panicked, forgetting the wand in her hand. Her muggle brain took over and she pounded on the ice, knowing that Seizel was off in the distance, probably looking for her. Opening her mouth, a soundless scream came out, bubbles hitting the ice above her. Panicking, she slammed her fists into the ice, cutting up her knuckles. The cold water began to make her body seize up and she had a hard time trying to get back to the hole that her body had sunk through. About two feet from the hole, she reached a frozen and almost blue hand up through the hole, hoping that Seizel would grab for her hand.
Sinking back down beneath the water, her long blonde hair spread out around her head, making a halo. Her piercing blue eyes darted around as she felt a burning in her chest. She couldn't force her body to move anymore, and she knew she needed to get to the surface. Payton's hand was frozen around her wand, and she saw something dart past her. Her eyes flicked to the side to follow it, and her wand shot out sparks after it. The creature didn't return, and Payton raised her eyes to the surface, waiting. Only thirty seconds had gone by, but it felt like an eternity.

Seizel was just minding his own business on the ice when all of a sudden he heard a rather loud crash and had to look over to see what was happening to the lake itself. Funny, this thing seemed to act like a whole wave as the ice cracked and he had to do his best from skating on the cracks. Eagerly dancing around them with ease and then as he looked over saw no sign of Payton aside from a hole in the ice. Great, she decided to take a swim and not invite him? He thought rather callously considering he did have a rather vague side to him that considered if he should react or not to this. A death on the school grounds right now would point fingers at him and he really didn't want to be the talk of the school from anyone.
Saving her life would earn him respect from a lot of people, including those he disliked, but had to consider the many errors of not helping her out. Contemplating what he could do to break up the ice or just you know levitate her out as he made his way to the edge of the lake so that he was a good distance away from the ice, but settled on a different spell to make sure that the water itself wasn't freezing cold. Aiming his wand towards her as he saw her hair pooling around her, he cast the bobble-head charm on her so that she could breath first of all. The next was the spell he was going to use to get her out of the water.
Preferring not to get himself all dirty he suddenly turned his ice skates into something that would stay firm within the snow in case he almost slipped forward while pulling her out. Suddenly he was pointing his wand in her direction and he was only a few feet away from her of course. Then an idea hit him as he realized that the ice that had cracked there definitely was sturdy until he saw a hand shoot out of the ice and instead of just being a normal person he instantly pointed his wand at her. "Levicorpus" was all he said and Payton would feel her body rising out of the water now that he had his target and was soon moving her over towards the bank beside him.
This was all done with carefully as he kept his distance from her after making sure her whole body wasn't blue but he managed to duck down to her level as he examined her vitals making sure she was laying down on a fresh area that wasn't covered in snow since he had used his wand to warm up the area around her to keep her at least at her normal body temperature and to attempt warming her up. Great, now he was going to be recognized for this, but he really didn't want her to thank for him for this at all. Just something anyone would have naturally done unless they were really cruel, but he did know a few people like that. "Payton! Wake up!" he yelled at her rather calmly as he put two fingers against her smooth skin near her neck to make sure her vitals were good.

Payton's lungs burned, fire erupting in her chest. Her last ditch effort to save herself without magic was starting to fail, especially if Seizel hadn't seen her hand come up. What if he didn't care? What if he didn't care at all and he was leaving? She fumbled in her pocket for her wand, her frozen fingers sliding uselessly in front of the pocket, not able to feel where it was. Suddenly she was being lifted from the water into the cold air, her body blue and convulsing from the cold and pain of the cold.
She landed on the ground next to Seizel, who she could barely see. He was checking for her pulse, and she sputtered, cool water rushing from her lungs, up her throat, and out her mouth. Coughing to the side, so as to not spit on Seizel, she shuddered for a few moments, trying to regain her composer. "G-guess I need to w-work on m-m-y charms huh?" she said, her blue lips breaking into a smile as her whole body shook with cold. Sitting up slowly, she removed her wand from her back pocket and waved it around, calling silently for a blanket. After a few seconds, it came to her shaking hands and she slowly and stiffly wrapped it around her shoulders, subconsciously leaning into Seizel to gather his body warmth.
"I don't want to make this awkward by saying thank you. So I won't," she said, teeth chattering away. "And I'm f-fine. Just really c-c-cold." She could tell that the air around her was warmer than before, and she suspected that it had to do with him. He'd probably cast a spell to make it warmer. "S-sorry I ruined t-today," she said, looking down at the ground, scrunching her toes in her wet shoes. Her wand sat at her side, and she was unsure of what to do now. She she wring the water from her sneakers? Should she warm up her feet so they didn't get frostbite and die or something?

Seizel was glancing over Payton to make sure she was alright, using his hands to make sure she was warm, but could tell she was rather shaken up as he continued to use the warming charm. Then tried to remember the one to dry her clothes as he pointed his wand at her feet and heated up the wand far enough to actually dry her clothes faster and soon said the one charm to make her clothes dry themselves. Making the water return to the freezing cold water as he suddenly drew her up close to him to give her body heat as his arms wrapped around her waist gently to hold her close to him as he then pressed his hands to her cheeks after blowing on them softly. Seizel honestly didn't see this as intimate as he kept her warm, and then helped her up right there as he soon nodded towards her.
"Calm down, and we'll get you back to the castle where it's warmer, we need to make sure you won't catch pneumonia, cause that would indeed be bad. Yes I know about muggle-born ailments since all wizards are just as human, even if some of them are pure blood," he said to her. Now starting to keep his cool and soon just made sure that she knew this was purely professionalism and didn't want it to be seen as making any moves on her. "Oh and just so you know, this is clearly just to keep you warm, considering you probably already know who I'm with anyways, haha," he added calmly despite his face being close to hers, but he wasn't even tempted to kiss her.
Yet she was an incredible beauty and anyone would have been lucky to have her as he started to help her up to take her back to the castle if she'd let him at least. Now starting to move with her, and making sure that she wasn't going to slip at all. Looking down to make sure no ice is around them, he soon started to move forwards at his own rate, and kept on checking Payton's pulse to make sure she was warm enough to make it without fainting.

Payton shivered and leaned closer to her new friend (?) Seizel. At least, she would always count him as one, for having saved her just then in her muggle panic. She kept her hands together so that he wouldn't seem them shaking, and they slowly made their way back to the castle. She had to admit, she was somewhat surprised that Seizel knew what ailments plagued the muggles. She nodded her head, glad that he knew what was going on.
He periodically checked her pulse, to make sure she wasn't going into shock or something. "N-no it's fine, I k-know about her," she said between chattering teeth. She snuggled in closer to him, feeling his body heat radiating into her own body. "That water was c-colder than the w-water I soak in after a l-lesson," she said, just murmuring about random things now. And in truth, it was much colder than the ice baths that her trainer made her take after each dance lesson, to make sure that he muscles didn't overheat or anything.
She pulled a blanket closer around her shoulders as they walked to the school. "S-sorry that you had to d-do this," Payton said, feeling bad that he was helping her out way more than he intended to. She couldn't believe that he was being this nice to her. She had heard things about him, like the fact that he was so stoney and hard to be around. He was always so serious. But she didn't think so, not with the way he was treating her.

Seizel was nicer than he usually was thanks to Alaya bringing out that side of him, but he was normally rather neutral despite his outward appearance of being rather cold towards other. It was just no one really got to know who he truly really was since he always distanced himself from a lot of people despite being in the chess club. One of the many honors of being the wizard's chess club captain was the fact that he could easily go anywhere he wanted that had anything to do with Wizard's chess. This had to be alright with the professor in charge of said club, but Seizel was pretty sure anyone would have gone along with his plans either way. Like perhaps to the area where Wizard's chess first started, now that would have been something.
As Payton was snuggling closer to him he smelled her body and instantly grew to love that smell from her as he realized this may have looked bad on his end. Nuzzling her cheek with his own softly in a moment of awkwardness as he realized what he had done thinking she was Alaya due to actually being in his arms to keep her warm. It was the least he could do and almost anyone would have seen this as Seizel cuddling with another girl. No, that wasn't it, and he eventually got her into the great hall making sure she had enough blankets to keep her warm all over. Seizel was smart and then he spoke to her, 'By the way, I knew what ice-skating was, I was pretending not to know to help you out by actually dragging me onto the ice. I have a fear of falling through ice, which as you see just happened to you, but I suppose I overcame that fear today when I saw what happened...nor did I want a death on my hands caused by me," he said rather softly to her.
This was in her ear and his hot breath would only linger that much longer when he pulled away from it so that he could let her go to actually enjoy the warmth of some blankets he found lying around. Although he would move her down to her own common room if she'd rather be with her own friends and have her help them there. The Great Hall was where almost everyone was during supper time, and it was such so he decided to help her over towards the Hufflepuff table to make sure everyone got a chance to see that she needed some attention. Aside from the fact he had just rubbed his cheek against her earlier and notified himself that it had been an act of compassion for just a little bit. Soon settling her down at her own table, "Don't worry, your friends should help take care of you unless you want me to stay here to keep you company, suppose it's the least I could do," he said to her as he took a seat beside her trying to catch a glimpse of any her friends coming up to help her out although he would stay there to keep her company either way.

Seizel slowly helped her back to the castle, his own large body granting her smaller one much warmth. By the time they were back inside where it was warm, her hands were regaining their feeling. This was also the point where she was coherent enough to realize that the reason she couldn't feel her feet moving was because he was carrying her. Payton stifled a giggle and burrowed into his warm chest. He was being so nice to her, something that she usually never got from guys.
Setting her on a bench in the Great Hall, Payton looked at Seizel, wondering what he was thinking. "Well, if you k-knew about ice skating, a-and how thin the ice was, p-pray tell why you stayed?" She spit those words out through chattering teeth. Of course, Payton was a bit grouchy right now, as she was colder than the dickens, and she was a bit miffed that Seizel had led her on to believe that he didn't know how to ice skate. She was also a bit miffed because she knew that these 'friends' that he asked her about wouldn't be coming. Shailene was somewhere else, and probably didn't know what had happened. And other than her, Payton didn't really have any friends.
"T-the only true friend t-that I have is Shailene. She won't know where I am." She hugged her blanket closer around her and looked around at the other students, ones who'd lingered after dinner. She threw them all a look and watched them just raise their eyebrows at the sight of her and Seizel together. "Thanks for bringing me inside at least. I suppose I should be glad that my death wasn't going to dirty your hands," she said, looking back at him. He seemed like he was being nice, but he was also being blunt. She wanted him to know that she could be blunt too.

]Seizel had just realized that he had probably said the wrong thing just then, but he no longer cared after all he had done her a favor. The least she could do was thank him, which she did, and he was grateful for that too. Many people in her position would surely have done the same thing on a whim, and decided that he'd at least give her his input on what she was feeling with her own body. Finally just letting her cuddle into the blanket and looked around at the table. Not wanting to cause an uproar, but he was with Payton on not having many friends. Aside from the Quidditch team, and the many other Ravenclaws he sometimes talked to. On the inside though, he was incredibly reserved and preferred to keep his distance from everyone.
It was just pure luck he had run into Payton at all in the first place in one of the random rooms of the castle and had wanted to be taught wizard's chess. Keeping her from finding out about his true intentions, which was to determine if she'd be any good at chess would have settled him down a little. Although, he had found the whole thing entertaining and soon wanted to be blunt with her again, "Why not? It was fun though, I have to thank you for showing me a good time. I'm surprised that you could skate so well, but then again I'd never actually experienced it first-hand. I really did need someone to teach me how to skate haha...I guess that was a round about way to ask for help...sorry bout that, I don't have many friends either...despite being the quidditch captain...respect isn't friendship to me," he said to her.
That was the truth, and if anyone dared to try to tell him wrong he would just instantly slap a duel warning to them. Usually it did result in him getting into a quarrel, but that's why he kept to the forbidden forest to avoid a lot of people. Finally sighing softly and then looked to her hoping his answer would satisfy her as she still tried to get warmer.
