They needed no other distractions before they got to one of their loved ones, it would be even better if they had no other distractions for the rest of the task. It would be great if they could get first place, but he had no idea how far the other teams were or what creatures they had come across. Unlike the first task, no one knew where the other teams were, they were blind so to speak.
He pushed his broom on further, wondering how much faster it could go before it decided to give up and quit on him. He ducked his head, avoiding being whipped in the face by a branch before swerving to avoid a thick tree trunk. The forest was getting more dense, it was getting harder to fly, but he wasnt going to give up. Flying was his thing, it was easier than walking and running through the forest, much better then getting a twisted, sprained or even a broken ankle because of some unseen hole in the ground. He'd persevere with it.
The Slytherin could see something up ahead and his hopes immediately heightened. It had to be one of the loved ones it just had to be. He was excited that once more he urged his broom faster, leaving Theia behind a little. What he saw was indeed a loved one of his, but not what he wanted to see. His broom stopped suddenly, throwing him off onto the ground and in front of said loved one. Bloodied and lifeless, his skin looked deathly grey. His father was lying on the ground, blood covering his body. Yes his father was dead. That couldnt be, his father had started the task. Had something gotten to him between then and now, what would his mother say, would she blame him for the death of her husband? He took deep breaths trying to calm his racing heart, trying not to let the bile and fear rise up his throat. He sat on his knees, the minister was dead, it just couldnt be possible, right?

James was glad that their spells had finally hit and could carry on with his life in a rather normal fashion now. Awkward as it may be to have someone following him everywhere, he could only encourage Alaya to actually just continue with this task since they had already started. Even so, he glanced over at Alaya to make sure she was alright so they could move on as he walked over to her to spare some time to actually pay attention to his team mate. Sadly, this wouldn't be a very happy ending for anyone he was sure of it, but before he could even move onwards the pixies stopped dead in their tracks it looked like.
Each of them flying away or unable to move, and James astonished they were even able to make it past the beasts in general. It was a miracle they hadn't been swarmed upon and devoured, although Pixies weren't known to eat their victims at all. Merely pester them until shooed away or just gave up attempting to be a nuisance. Hence, why they were labeled as a level two classification number assigned by the ministry of magic. James could understand the annoyance from such beasts to have their number placed above other ones. Luckily this was just another day in the world of James Potter, who wanted nothing more than to just relax after this task. "Hey, you alright, Alaya, this is tougher than I thought, we may need to try getting to higher ground," he said to her, only wishing that they could just overcome the rest of their foes with immense ease.
Sadly, James wasn't going to be able to keep his hopes up for long when he saw the expanse of the forest in his own eyes ahead of them. There was just too many obstacles in the way and they would surely be stuck in this roundabout forever. So, instead he started running again, and made sure to look back to see if Alaya was keeping up with him..stopping every so often to let her catch up to him.

theia ran alongside him, keeping pace with him rather easily in her tigress form, her paws automatically sought out the ground, digging deep into the dirt and pulling herself on, pushing herself harder and faster and she snarled slightly under her breath. why couldn't this be easier? if she had his scent, if she'd ever really known him whilst in this form she might have been able to hunt him out by smell. as a tigress she had a much more developed senses - including scent - and had she spent more time with albus in this form she might have known it better, known it enough to follow. she knew it vaugely but not enough to be able to find a trace of in such a dense forest. she would have to rely upon hearing and sight for now instead.
something stirred up ahead and she gave a low warning growl to her companion, unsure if he would have seen it yet or not. she wanted to hope it was albus or even scorp's loved one but she was wary it would be a trick. indeed the figure was human, but lay upon the ground and for a second she felt a flash of fear. what if it was albus and he were hurt?! she shook her head slightly and ran faster, her breath in huffs as the exertion of running so fast for so long on such terrain began to make itself known despite how much training she'd been doing with and without scorp.
it didn't take her a moment to see that the figure was not albus, in fact it appeared to take the shape of scorp's father and she frowned slightly, slowing in confusion whilst scorpius sped faster. she dug her paws into the dirt a few metre's back, suspicious, cautious, before she padded forward slowly with a slight shake of her head. this couldn't be right surely? a small huff of confusion fell from her maw and she glanced up at scorp, going to butt his leg with her great head as if warning him. and then as she stood beside the figure it shifted, changed suddenly.... and out of shock as the figure blurred and suddenly transformed .. into her father...
"daddy?" theia's voice shook slightly, her hair in disarray from the wind and the running and though the shape had changed from scorp's father to her father she couldn't fathom that this was a boggart.. for one second she thought it was her dad... and she backed up fast as he raised his hand and advanced on her, anger distorting his stern features. "you'd disapointed me theresa..." the voice was the same, even if were not him, and theia shook her head slightly and swallowed, scared for that single second that he was going to hit her.. something that had happened before, not often, but enough to make her wish she would never disapoint him again.. but it wasn't something she ever spoke of. then she glanced at scorp and it all came back. this wasn't her dad. grasping her wand and pointed it the boggart's way and imagined him in her mother's dress. almost whispering the incantation she hoped to god that it worked and that laughter might drive the thing away....

Her eyes widened when Dunstable stepped in front of her, immediately remembering that she certainly wasn't alone. The ridiculousness of it all was reinforced once the kid had transformed into a man, realizing now that it was merely a boggart. She let herself fall for such a trick, one that should've been easy to spot. If anything, she only felt humiliated at the fact. Yori hated the idea of showing such vulnerability, and it was only immediately at that thought that she remembered that they were being watched. Of course they would throw a boggart into this mess, of course they would.
The hufflepuff only hesitated for a just a moment before following Dunstable through the forest; however, a scowl still set deeply on her expression. "Um... Dun, can I ask you a favor?" Yori asked carefully, "Can we never speak of this again?" She'd like to think most people wouldn't talk about it, assuming they were paying attention. Most anyway. The hufflepuff wondered if the other champions would encounter boggarts as well. It seemed a little messed up just to divulge everyone's fears like that. Of course, this was a tournament that came with sacrifices. Maybe people signed up with that expectation.
By the she had managed to keep pace with Dunstable, she noticed another form in the path with dread. If it was another damn boggart, she was going to be pissed. However, the hufflepuff noticed the relative size was wrong. Unfortunately, the creature was blocking the path. As she neared, she was relieved to notice that it was merely a red cap. They've dealt with this before, thank god. She took her wand out of her pocket. "Stupefy!" she called out just as the red cap looking in their direction, about ready to attack. It was nice to catch something ahead of time for once.

She was never a leader and until more recently she despised even the concept of being the head of something. That change this year with Dueling Club and such but still she had to wonder if she was holding James back in this. Alaya knew there was so much more she could do but years of hiding kind of limited that. No matter what she wasn't going to expose that just yet. She just continued to observe their surroundings and hope the wind turned in their favor.
The pixies were an issue she would have preferred to have skipped over. They were annoying and well not overly dangerous creatures. Why did they cause so much problems at one time when they could not afford to be held back like the last task. The spells worked and she was thrilled. Now they could get back on track, whatever that was.
"I'm a bit irritated but alright, how are you fairing?" There was no hint in her voice that would have given away her emotion at that time. She was looking ahead, trying to figure out the best route. Higher ground seemed fine for the time being. She wasn't concerned about getting lost, just finding the people they were suppose to locate. The forest was so large and it could take a while if they make one wrong turn. She followed after James, staying silent the whole time. There wasn't much to be said.

he watched the spell shoot out of the end of his wand, headed straight for what was probably the easiest-to-defeat creature in the forest, yet the one that the smartest house in the school couldn't seem to get rid of. the jet of light hit the annoying little thing right between the eyes, and with a cry of panic it turned and ran. "finally," jayce muttered, not caring if the people in the stands might be able to see his impatience. no doubt every other soul in ravenclaw was sharing his disgust right now. they wanted to win, not be held up by a thing a first year could probably get rid of with ease. for pete's sake, he was the goddamn head boy! a seventh year! if there was any student in ravenclaw who should have been able to dispatch the redcap with ease, it was him, not to mention the extra manpower he had in claire.
"we've got time to make up for," he told claire as explanation for why he immediately turned and began to run into the forest. she didn't seem to be in a chatty mood anyway, so like always he focused on the path his feet too him and on not running into any more damned redcaps as he hurried off to the next obstacle that the task put in their way.

Did she not see that his father was dead, you couldnt rush someone that was grieving. He went to brush her away and all he found was air. She must have moved he thought, his eyes never leaving that of his father's body. He saw the body blur and he thought that he was close to tears, but he never felt the pressure build up behind his eyes. Maybe he was just too emotionally numb to feel anything.
"daddy?" One word was all it took for him to snap out of it. Why was she calling Draco daddy? He looked at her before hearing the thing speak. That was not his father's voice. Glancing back to where he had seen the minister's body, now he found another man, Theia's father with no trace of his own. What the hell, he thought. Now this was simply confusing, he could have sworn he had seen his father and now Theia's father was standing there.
Oh he thought after a moment. They had been tricked. Damn it, he cursed as he stood slowly as to not grab the attention of the beast. If Theia kept it occupied. He rummaged for his wand, before dusting himself off. Pointing the wand at 'Theia's father' he noticed she was doing the same, obviously she had realised that they had been tricked by a boggart as well. He allowed Theia to deal with it as he turned and took a few steps back towards his broom that was hovering in the air. Plucking it from the air, he once more mounted it, getting comfortable and watched the whole thing, hoping Theia's spell hit its target.

“Um... Dun, can I ask you a favor? Can we never speak of this again?” Dunstable felt quite bad that Sari had to deal with that. Sure, he didn’t know much of her past, nor would he pry. But to have it appear before her in front of someone else, he was pretty sure that wasn’t something anyone would want. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell a soul,” he said with a smile as they ran through the forest.
He was actually looking at Sari when she had pulled out her wand and yelled “Stupefy” and that was when Dunstable came to a halt and turned to see that they had a Red Cap right in front of them. This should be no biggie for the two of them, they deal with one last time. He just hoped that it would be just as easy as last time. He swiftly pointed his wand at the Red Cap “Stupefy!” he called out hoping that with both of them casting out the spell, one of them will hit and cause the small beast to fall over so that the two of them could continue on their way. Otherwise, he was pretty sure the Red Cap would come after them if they missed.

She had seen the spell hit the redcap square in the chest, brought back even farther by Dunstable's additional power. Yori admitted it probably wouldn't have hurt to check to see if the creature really was down for the count, but the hufflepuff was in a hurry and was already quite flustered with the task's events. Personally, between putting her best friend in danger and dealing with the boggart, the Japanese girl was ready to put the day behind her. With those thoughts in mind, she had began to sprint back through the woods. It wasn't just the competition that had her rushing, though she still hadn't an idea of where the other competitors were.
She only got a few feet before she quickly realized her mistake. There was a strangled yell before Yori felt the still very lively red cap tear into her calf, slamming the hufflepuff onto the trail with a pained yelp. She tried to twist around as she begun to kick at the red cap. She could feel the blood flowing, hot and searing. She just needed to get the damn thing away. After struggling, she managed to twist just enough to get the wand pointed at the Red Cap. "A-alarte Ascendare!"

Post by JAMES SIRIUS POTTER on Jan 26, 2012 22:51:21 GMT -6
Well, James was glad to be free of the little nuisances and decided to keep up the pace he had going. After all, what better way to celebrate defeating pixies than just running them over with the spell he had chosen. Surely, something new were to come of this, but he didn't know what to make of it as the forest itself was certainly dark. James just wanted to get to the end to find their friends, but at the same time he wasn't sure what to expect anymore. Arriving upon a rather disturbing scene of course as he noticed a sphinx in their mist, and it was lingering just up ahead. Great, another riddle thing, and he hated riddles as much as the next person.
It was hard to determine if this was a test of his wits, but he wasn't sure of whether or not he wanted to actually answer said riddle. Making his way towards the strange creature and listening to the words as he imagined a scenario where he just automatically won instead of dealing with this creature. Finally getting the nerve to actually ask what riddle it wanted them to guess as he glanced at Alaya to make sure she had kept up with his steady pace. James was eager to get past this creature and enjoy victory on the other side. Somehow, he didn't think that was going to happen too soon, but one could only hope for such a fate to occur to him.

This was a setback that they simply could not afford. They needed to get to Albus and Rose quickly and then get them out of the forest. Who knew what dangers they could be in, his father hadnt said they were protected by anything and being unconscious, they were defenceless against the creatures that roamed here, he only hoped that the other teams were having difficulty with whatever stopped them.
They needed to calm down, well he did. He wasnt too sure what Theia was feeling at the moment. He took a deep breath, controlling his breathing, it worked, he could feel his muscles relax as the tension just seemed to fade away. They could do this, he though as he raised his wand to the boggart, ignoring whatever form it took. He knew now that this was not his father, in fact if people were watching his, his father would more likely be disappointed in him for not recognising it earlier. But hey at least he now knew it was a boggart.
He could feel the word on his tongue, but his mouth was parched. He needed a drink, something to wet his mouth, but he had the perfect opportunity to cast the spell. The boggart was distracted. Taking yet another deep breath, he steadied his wand. "Riddikulus," he cast the spell. In his mind, he saw the silhouette of the person that he believed had killed his father before and pictured it tap dancing while wearing bright coloured clothing and had a parasol in hand. Yes it was the only think that came to his mind at the time, but he thought it would be pretty hilarious and if he didnt cast the spell, he would be doubled over laughing at the images in his head. Hopefully his spell would work and give the audience a bit of humour as well.

pixies. bloody, freaking pixies. the sense of deja vu that his jayce from their first task when the little buggers had attacked them before they got to the brooms was not at all welcome. he might have preferred a boggart or a sphinx or whatever other larger creatures lurked within the task, waiting to pounce. the little fluttery creatures were just... so damn annoying! their buzzing, their small sizes, it made it nearly impossible for him to his a spell, though he cast a few after them. the little creatures just dodged out of the way of the jet of light, cackling, taunting him, and diving at his head again as he ducked.
he didn't know where claire was. he couldn't see any other jets of light saying that she was trying to get rid fo them too... but he figured she'd taken cover behind a tree or something. fair enough. she hadn't seemed to be doing much of anything throughout the rest of the task anyway, and if he could do all of that he could manage this little obstacle on his own. he could handle this. easy. right? after all, he knew what spell had worked to get rid of the buggers in the first task. "immobulus!"

James finally was glad that they had figured out the riddle, but the rest of it was still gibberish to him even as he was glad to have gotten past the annoying creature in general. Riddles really weren't his strong suit, because he never really paid attention to them in the long run. Always running head first into danger was his main thing and he really didn't want to change that at all. Luckily, they weren't that far from trying to rescue whoever was important to them, but he really didn't know who would be the most important person to him. Wondering if this was just going to be a rather nasty event that ended up in him forfeiting before even getting there. That would probably dishearten Alaya since he had heard rumors about her happiness with her new boyfriend.
That news had spread like wildfire throughout the school as soon as it happened since it was hard not to miss when a quidditch captain start seeing someone especially when it was on an opposing team. James almost wished it hadn't been the leader of the Ravenclaw Quidditch taem but he couldn't do much about that now could he? Yes, he could have, however, he felt no need to interfere with her love life. Thoughts running amok, but he looked to Alaya, "We'll need to hurry if we want to actually get there before the others finish," he said to Alaya. Luck really wasn't on their side in general, but he could only hope that it would change soon.

He balled his hand into a fist, if the creature had a more solid body to hit, Scorp would be up there using his fists on the thing. Wasnt there meant to be an unwritten law stating that any child of the minister had it easier than others, so why wasnt it being put into use?
Getting angry would do nothing for his and Theia's situation, he knew that in the back of his mind, but that damn boggart had already wasted more than enough time for them. Perhaps if he and Theia shot their spells at it together, the thing would disappear. But he needed to catch Theia's attention first. Would she be able to sense what he was going to suggest? Waving his arm to catch her attention didnt work. So he shot a spell of green stars in her direction. Holding his wand up, he gestured with his hand that they both use the spell at the same time. What would happen to the boggart, he wondered. Would it take on the humorous form of both people, or be split in the middle? He didnt bother asking if she was ready, instead he turned back to the boggart, aimed his wand. "Riddikulus," he spoke, casting the spell again, having the same humorous image in his mind as before.

Darn it. That wasn’t good, their Stupefy spells didn’t work and they were still dealing with that stupid red cap. Dunstable sighed, he never did like Red Caps. They were annoying little things, why oh why were they in this task as well? He just hoped that they weren’t in any of the last two tasks, that wouldn’t exactly be fun.
“YORI!” Dunstable called out when he saw that the red cap had gotten a hold of her calf. This wasn’t good, he remembered during the last task how he had gotten attacked by a red cap and it wasn’t exactly painless either. “Reductio!” he called out, pointing his wand at the Red Cap, maybe, maybe he could get the red Cap away from her.
And then there was a bit of a blast and the Red Cap was blown away and he took a hold of Yori helping her stand up. “Are you okay?” he asked frowning lightly. This wasn’t exactly a good thing, an injury like that could slow them down and it was best they got the finish line quickly so she could get it tended.

the spell didn't work, and she honestly wasn't all that surprised about it's lack of effect - she had hardly been focused entirely upon the image in mind for the thing, so focused upon the idea it was her father. it took her several minutes to get a proper hold upon herself, running a hand through her hair and shaking her head a little. only now did she realise she was trembling and she felt a wave of frustration at herself for it. how could she be so damned weak? what was happening to her? it was stupid - ridiculous. in the time it took for her to pull herself together she saw that her team mate had attempted to hit it with the spell, yet a second time the spell failed and theia almost growled in frustration.
"damn." she hissed under her breath, frowning as the slightly unsure shape now turned it's attention to her once more, morphing into a new shape. someone upon the ground, blood pouring from their body.. one that had the same shape as albus', yet she forced herself not to peer too closely at the pale face and dark hair. it wasn't real, it wasn't real. the thing kept morphing, seemingly confused by how both her and scorp had stepped up to it at once now and it didn't know who to try and scare first. as scorp waved in her direction she frowned and gave a small nod. together their combined spells should do the trick, and so with an amusing image in mind she raised her wand at the same time and spoke clearly and with detirmination, "Riddikulus". if this didn't work perhaps she could transform into her animagus shape and rip it apart.

it worked. the little buggers froze in midair, suspended above him with nothing but their eyes moving, following the head boy as he stepped back from the swarm, searching out claire with his eyes. he just jerked a nod to her, not in the mood at the moment to say much to her, and continued on his way. the sound of an extra set of footprints being him told him that his partner was close behind him, so he didn't check over his shoulder for her. she'd keep up, and if she fell behind she just had to shout out for him to slow down and he'd listen.
but when he heard a sound from behind him, it wasn't her voice telling him to stop. it was a short, quick scream. the head boy spun around, wand ready, to see claire against the ground and a darkened shape running off into the forest. he shot a curse at the thing, probably some sort of wild beast that lived in the trees, but his shot missed and the creature disappeared into the darkness of the forest.
"claire?" she wasn't moving. jayce hurried over, crouching beside her. "claire? c'mon, wake up." but she didn't. his partner remained still and silent on the ground, he couldn't even see her chest rising and falling as she took in breaths. ...wait, she was breathing, wasn't she? he checked, breathing a sigh of relief when he found she was, but it was shallow... very shallow. jayce swallowed, mind going a mile a minute as he tried to figure out exactly what should be done now.
it didn't take long for him to figure it out. there was no way claire would be finishing this task... but ravenclaw couldn't just drop out. after their third place finish last task, failure to finish this time would put them out of the running for good. jaycen just wouldn't stand for that. he could finish the task alone, he knew he could. and claire could rejoin him for the next task, right? his mind made up, jayce lifted his wand in the air, shooting sparks in the sky above the tree cover directly over claire's motionless body, took one last look at his fallen partner, got to his feet, and ran, more determined than ever to come out on top this task.
