The Whomping Willow was pretty much the most exciting landmark that Nikko had seen in his entire life. Fascinating, it was and in his formative years at Hogwarts Nikko had even liked to spin ridiculous scenarios about the tree. One of his favourties had definitely been that the Whomping Willow had the mentality of a scorned female. Its temperament sure did seem to have the fury of one. Maybe it had been something along the lines of age and hatred turning a once beautiful tree into the mangled monstrosity that’s branches swayed aimlessly in the stagnant air. But staring and commiserating on old theories hadn’t been why Nikko was out there that day it was just something to do to occupy his time while his true purpose was being fulfilled.
A cigarette hung lazily from between his middle and index finger, wrist flopped over his raised knee as a plume of smoke was exhaled from Nikko’s lungs. It was a nasty habit; smoking, but Nikko had picked it up a year ago and found that the stress reliever was well worth, at least to him, the potential dangers. Besides it was a decent enough way to pacify his restlessly over being idle for too long. His parents disapproved yet did nothing to discourage him from continuing. They had always allowed him to make his own choices, his grandmother disagreed with this particular method of raising a child, not that it had any pull in the matter.
Watching the willow swat a large, yet limber, branch at a passing bird, which really Nikko would have expected that the birds would have learned by now not to fly any where near the tree, and miss he took another drag of his cigarette. The cherry at the end glowed red hot as a bit of ash tumbled off the end and onto his jeans. Nikko brushed it off only to smear half into the fabric of his pants. Sitting where he was the ground was already chilled getting on to the winter months and Nikko wondered if winter would come early that year. His mind often turned to random and pointless thoughts and Nikko just went along with it, preferring to muse on nothing than have a quieted mind. The sound of footsteps approaching barely pulled him out of his thoughts, but did in time to turn his head to see a figure coming straight over to him, or so it seemed. Nikko slapped on a vibrant, lopsided grin in greeting.

The day itself was rather chilly and warranted wearing more than just a school uniform so today when Mini left her dorm room she left with some extra clothing to pile on if need be. It was one of those rare days that Mini didn't have any school work to try and finish and today was her day free of classes so she actually had some free time on her hands. Before heading outside she decided to pull on her powder blue fleece jacket and a matching scarf to keep her warmer than her uniform would. She grabbed her glasses off her night stand and slid them onto the dridge of her nose before heading outside.
Today she decided it might be fun to head down to the whomping willow and see how the angry old tree was doing this year. She liked to visit the tree at every year. Usually not many people ventured down to the tree because it was so nasty and unpredictable. It was always a good idea to keep your distance if seeing it caught your fancy. As she started to make her way down to the tree to popped some headphones into her ears and turned her music up, not too loud but loud enough. Making it almost to the tree she started doing a little dance to the song that was playing in her ear. She had grown up liking to dance and do such things as gymnastics. She hadn't realized there was anyone else down here and so she didn't see any reason not to dance and enjoy herself. Her blonde hair, natural due to her part veela blood, flipped around behind her as she spun a bit.
Getting almost right to the spot where the tree was she suddenly caught site of a figure sitting on the ground just out of reach of the tree. After spotting him she jumped and pulled the headphones from her ears in embarassment. She hadn't know there was anyone else there and if she had then she wouldn't have been dancing like a fool. The fifth year suddenly turned from pale white to bright red in a matter of seconds. Upon seeing his grin she tried to force a smile to her face but it was hard on top of her embarassment. At the moment she really didn't know what to say to break the tension that she was feeling so in a very soft and slightly stuttery voice she said "I uhh didn't think anyone would be down here" and waited for him to either make fun of her, laugh or look at her like she was a complete freak.

The blonde girl seemed to be enjoying herself immensely doing a little dance to whatever it was that she was listening to. Nikko couldn’t help but to grin at that. He could get pretty caught up in his own little world at times too and if there was some boss beat in her mind then more power to her. It made him wonder it was that got the girl so wound up though. He was more old school than anything else. It extended from his musical tastes, to his clothing style, and even the way he spoke. Nikko thought that he should have been some 1950s greaser rather than feebly trying to fit into the norm of what these kids were into. His leather jacket was vintage, well worn so that it was supple rather than creaked whenever he moved.
When the girl finally noticed him there Nikko waved a hand in the air dismissively. “No sweat, Chickie baby.” His thick Scottish accent made his slang all the more difficult to understand at times but he did very little to make any efforts against the fact. By some people’s standards, maybe it was most Nikko was an odd ball, but the way he saw it, at least he wasn’t boring. Flicking the ash of his cigarette he brought the thin white object back up to his lips taking another draw, the last before he sucked it down to the filter and, as Nikko was exhaling, snuffed it out on the bottom of his shoe.
Another second passed before Nikko got to his feet absently brushing off the seat of his jeans. “Name’s Nikko.” Since she was down at the Whomping Willow and he didn’t have any other plans for the day there was no harm in meeting someone new, right. If he wasn’t mistaken this blonde was one of the Weasley’s though. Unlike a lot of the other kids at Hogwarts he hadn’t grown up hearing the stories of the Potter/Weasley family and their major role in defeating Voldemort. Of course that changed around his first year during his History of Magic lessons. What was it like to hear about your dad or mum, aunts, uncles, whoever during class? Sure you had an advantage and all that but was it weird? Making sure that he didn’t have any dirt or nothing on his hand Nikko wiped his hand on his pants leg before extending it to the girl.

Relief washed over her as the boy merely shrugged off her odd dancing. He then proceeded to finish the cigarette he had been smoking and then after wiping off his hand offer it to her in greeting. She accepted this friendly display and extended her hand to meet his in a shake. After this she moved her hand back to her side and then replied with a soft smile "I'm Dominique, but people usually just call me Mini." Her voice had a sort of French accent to it, nothing really thick but just noticable enough. This was because she had been raised speaking French and had picked up the accent from her French mother. She loved the language and would speak it more if people would be able to understand what she was saying. Instead she wrote poem and such in French. Writing in French was nice because it allowed her to use the language she loved, it sounded prettier and no one else could read it really.
"It is a pleasure to make your acquantance" she added looking back at Nikko. She was pretty sure she had seen him around school at least but didn't really know who he was at all. She knew he was a hufflepuff and that was the extent of her knowledge, she wasn't even sure which year he was. Suddenly she wondered if smoking was even allowed on school property, she was pretty sure it wasn't but hey she wasn't the smoking police so what the head masters didn't know wouldn't hurt them. Though she did believe in rules she wasn't about to rat someone out for doing what they wanted in their free time. It wasn't hurting her or anyone else so she didn't really see it as a problem at all.
Mini had to wonder if this boy knew who she was. Most people did and sometimes it was rather annoying. She was a Weasley and because of that she was related to some of those that had helped defeat the dark lord so many years before. Her father was a great man and she knew all about what he had done and how he had helped protect so many people. But that was her father, not her, she had done nothing to deserve special treatment and didn't like it when people treated her like she had. Sometimes she wished people didn't know her entire family but it was a fact of life and she lived with it. "You are a hufflepuff right?" she asked just trying to start some small talk but failing at it.

”Mini.” He repeated letting the name roll around on his tongue before giving a satisfactory nod. “I dig that.” It did remind him of that old Walt Disney cartoon, Nikko was more partial to the black and white era of Mickey Mouse, but regardless the name Mini left him with a good memory of watching the ancient show with his Pops so naturally, he got a good feeling about the girl in front of him. A lot could be discovered in a handshake too. Mini’s seemed to be exactly what one might expect from a petite chick, with a face as innocent as an angel, or maybe cherub, ‘cause angels were supposed to be hardcore from some of the lore that he had read. He was a young man of odd enthusiasms.
“I’m sure the pleasure’s all mine though, Sweetheart.” Flashing her a lopsided smile Nikko stuffed his hands into the pockets of his jeans rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet. He had a slight issue with sitting still, which probably had something to do with why he smoked in the first place. It gave Nikko something to occupy himself with even if there was nothing around to entertain him otherwise. When it came to having a reason to smoke, his was most likely the most ridiculous one he was aware of it and yet did nothing to change the fact.
He couldn’t help but to laugh at Mini’s question, good-naturedly of course. “What gave it away? Wait, let me guess…” Nikko pursed his lips in thought though it was only for show as an answer had already come to him before he even paused. “It’s my cheerful disposition and all around amiable nature. Screams Hufflepuff, like a hickey screams someone’s been playing little too much back seat bingo, if you know what I mean?” He winked making a clicking sound with his tongue. It was on rare occasions that people around his age had any idea of what he meant when he used those sorts of expressions.

Mini smiled when he commented on liking her name. "Well thank you" she added with a bright smile. She wasn't used to people actually wanted to stand there and talk to her. While she wasn't terribly unpopular she wasn't super popular either. She had a circle of friends and that was about it. She didn't tend to go out of her way to make new friends but instead stuck more to herself. Of course in a situation like this where she had literally walked into the small talk she did make an attempt to be personable.
In her own mind she thought about his name. Nikko. It was interesting and different, a name she hadn't ever actually heard before but she did like it. She had to admit though that Nikko seemed to be quite the flirt, she could be wrong and maybe it was just his personality but the way he talked reminded her of someone that was quite flirtatious. Mini wrapped her headphones around her IPOD deciding that it would be impolite to continue listening to it while they were talking. She placed the IPOD into her bag and then turned her attention back to him.
She had to laugh when he joked about how she had known he was a Hufflepuff. "Well actually I have seen you around school in your uniform and I have seen you at the Hufflepuff table during meal times" she replied with a laugh. Then she added "But I am sure you are just the perfect personality for hufflepuff" in a joking type tone. He sort of lost her on the next part of the joking but she didn't really want to ask what he meant so she just smiled. She liked him so far, he seemed different than the others in the school, not so superficial and fake like so many were. "Sorry your joke was way over my head" she admitted with an innocent smile and a shrug. She never meant to but sometimes her small stature and "angelic" features along with her slight veela charm made her seem like a tease.

As far as his own name went, like most people, it had a story behind it. While some might have been names after their grandparents or a certain one just ringing right for the parents when they laid eyes on their new bundle of joy, an expression, mind you, that Nikko had never been able to see the significance to as babies weren’t all that joyful, them being the crying puke machines that they were, his parents had named him in honor of Iron Maiden’s drummer Nicko McBrain. A band, specifically drummer, that his dad was obsessed with. Nikko didn’t have any complaints about it. The way he viewed it was that Nikko was a rather unique name, and if one thing could be said about him, it was that he certainly was a non-conformist.
It didn’t surprise him that Mini hadn’t understood his humour. Not many did and he had accepted that a long time ago. Nikko flourished his hand in the air dismissively before replacing back into his pocket. His lighter occupied his fingers for the time being as he flicked lazily at the igniter, though never hard enough to actually spark a flame. As long as people were laughing it didn’t much matter to Nikko what the cause was. Whether they were laughing with him or at him, it didn’t concern him. “Most just find it best to smile and nod. I never know the difference anyway.” He chuckled lightly, it was more that he didn’t care to know the difference rather than him being ignorant to the fact, but there was no need to dredge that up.
Nodding toward the IPOD that Mini had wrapped up his curiosity needed to be satiated. Mini obviously had veela charm and where usually Nikko would associate that with some blonde bittie taking the mattress route, in Mini it seemed classier. “So what sounds were razzing your berries?” Nikko hadn’t been sure if even mentioning the fact that he had indeed caught her dancing was such a good idea, but his curiosity won out over his politeness, which wasn’t that rare of an occurrence. Anyway he wanted to know what Mini had been listening to, to see if he was familiar with it.

The conversation soon turned to the fact that he had indeed seen her dancing. When he brought it up a slight blush covered her cheeks once more. Although she had known that he had to have seen her dancing around like an idiot she was kind of hoping that he hadn’t. Of course now that he mentioned her music and IPOD and such she was certain he had seen her and that brought the embarrassment back once more. It wasn’t like the situation itself was so horrible, she had just thought she was alone so knowing that someone had seen her made her feel like an idiot but it wasn’t exactly something that would eat away at her or anything. She would get over it eventually and it would cease to be more than just a faint memory if that.
In all truth people never expected Mini to listen to the types of things she did listen to. Mostly she liked alternative rock, heavy rock, metal and such things like that. Her IPOD contained mostly Nickelback, Mudvayne, Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Rise Against, Metallica, Iron Maiden, some Pink when she was in the mood for it, a bit of Selena, Savage Garden, Chevelle and then some other random songs from lots of different bands. She did listen to almost any genre out there depending on her mood so really there was a little of everything on her IPOD so she could choose music to suit her mood at any given time. She hesitate for a moment though when he asked what she had been listening to her, she didn’t want to sound dumb when she told him who it was. He might think her taste in music was horrible which make for a rather odd and uncomfortable part of the conversation.
“Oh umm I was listening to a song called So Beautiful by Savage Garden, they are kinda alternative and not too terribly popular so I won’t be surprised if you haven’t heard of them” she replied with a small smile. The song was one of her absolute favorites and luckily she hadn’t gotten all the way into it when Nikko caught her because usually she would not only dance but also sing. Of course her mother told her that she had beautiful voice but Mini never took what her mother said as complete truth because after all it was her mother and it was her job to make her children feel good about themselves. Mini had never been brave enough to sing in front of anyone and didn’t know if she ever would. “At least you only caught me dancing, if I had added in the singing I would have been really embarrassed” she replied with a laugh trying to lighten the mood, more for her benefit than his. He seemed to be in a light mood already, she on the other hand needed to laugh about the situation to keep herself from feeling too uncomfortable about it.

Nikko resisted the urge to audibly awe as rouge stained Mini’s cheeks a rosy pink. It was by far the cutest thing he had ever seen, except maybe that one time that he witnessed a newborn Saint Bernard yawn, its tiny pink tongue curling out of its mouth and making a soft cooing sound, but Mini’s blush was definitely a close second. Not even a veela could compete with puppy yawns. He personally didn’t see why Mini had any reason to feel embarrassed about dancing. She hadn’t looked awkward or anything of the sort. In fact it was kind of hot, whether that was her intent or not. Lithe little body like that shaking her hips to the laid back sound of Savage Garden, Nikko had enjoyed the little show. It might not have been the dance of the seven veils, but it certainly wasn’t a snoozer either.
His musical stylings were more along the lines of The Doors, Blue Oyster Cult, Kansas, Black Sabbath, Rush, and The Who, but not limited to. Nikko had explored other types of music throughout his childhood. It was just that those type bands were the ones that he enjoyed the most. At least he had gone a little bit forward in the future from his fifties colloquies. Though Elvis was pretty hip, the guy was like the ultimate stud, what with all those chicks swooning at that trademark pelvic thrust and upper lip twitch thing he did. Though dying of an overdose on the can… not something to really idolize. Then of course there was Dean Martin and Chuck Berry. Who didn’t love Johnny B. Goode? Those guitar horn riffs totally set the tone for great guitarists.
“Just ‘cause it ain’t popular don’t mean it isn’t good.” The majority of what he listened to most wouldn’t know either he supposed. They were all too concerned with the latest teen pop sensation that sounded like some computerized repetitive beat, despite them being by, supposedly, different artists. That was other people’s problem though. Nikko was hip to what was cool and that was all that mattered to him. He would have liked to hear her sing honestly. “There is still time if you’re up for it. If it makes you feel any better I can sing with you.” Nikko offered without a hitch. “Fair warning though, I’m a horrible singer.” That fact didn’t sway or make him apprehensive about singing with Mini. He didn’t care if he did something embarrassing. It was a daily occurrence for him actually Nikko kind of thrived off of it. One day without embarrassment and he went to bad feeling like he forgot something, it was an awfully nagging feeling.

When she mentioned singing he instantly had a response for that as well. It seemed that she was just getting herself deeper and deeper into this without even meaning to. She shook her head with a slight laugh “I wasn’t being serious about that. I never sing in front of people. Don’t have the guts to do it” she replied. She wasn’t big on public functions of any kind, she didn’t really like big crowds especially if she was in front of them. ”Besides I have no idea what I would sing if I did” she added glancing around her. It was only her and Nikko down at the tree right now and while she was half tempted to actually just do it and sing the other half of her was saying heck no! She didn’t think that Nikko would make fun of her either way it was just that she didn’t think she was a good singer or anything and so didn’t see why singing in public would be a good idea.
When Nikko admitted to being a horrible singer she looked over at him with an odd look, her head tilted a little. ”So you would still sing in front of someone, even if you know you can’t sing? You aren’t afraid of what they might think?” she asked curiously. It wasn’t like she had been raised in a family that had critiqued her every move but she also wasn’t one to just do whatever she wanted no matter what people thought. She didn’t live her life based on people’s opinions but she also didn’t like humiliating herself. It was an odd balance.
Her mind was whirling back and forth, do it, don’t do it, do it, don’t do it, back and forth. Finally she decided that she would do it, she didn’t know why she had decided that but for some reason she really did want to sing in front of him. She wanted to go out on that limb for once in her life and say she actually did something that she had been embarrassed to do before. ”I’ll do it” she finally said before taking out her IPOD. She pulled the headphones out of it so that external speaker would activate and turned it to the song she had been previously listening to except that it was the instrumental version so she could just fill in the words.
At the right moment she began singing. It started out quiet and shy but as the song went on her confidence rose and she even started to dance a little while she sang. Her focus shifted to her performance rather than to the fact that Nikko was watching. She was actually enjoying herself and having fun. Whether I'm right or wrong There's no phrase that hits Like an ocean needs the sand Or a dirty old shoe that fits And if all the world was perfect I would only ever want to see your scars You know they can have their universe We'll be in the dirt designing stars
And darlin' you know You make me feel so beautiful Nowhere else in the world I wanna be You make me feel so beautiful
Whether I'm up or down There's no crowd to please I'm like a faith without a clause to believe in it And if all the world was smiling I would only ever want to see your frown You know they can sail away in sunsets We'll be right here stranded on the ground Just happy to be found
You make me feel so beautiful Nowhere else in the world I wanna be You make me feel so beautiful
I have lost my illusions I have drowned in your words I have left my confusion to a cynical world I am throwing myself at things I don't understand Discover enlightenment holding your hand
You are.. So Beautiful
Once the song ended she remembered that Nikko was watching and turned her attention back to him ”So?” she asked wondering what he had honestly thought of it. If she was going to go out on a limb and sing in front of him she might as well find out if she had a good voice or not from someone that wasn’t her mother.

Nikko sung in front of people all that time, blurting out whatever tune sprung into his mind in the shower, walking down the hall, he sometimes even hummed quietly in class. It all depended on when and where the whim struck and regardless of if it was an appropriate place to do so Nikko was sure to satisfy his craving. He was extremely undisciplined like that. It was almost as though he had no shame, and that was rather accurate considering Nikko didn’t let little things like his interests or entertainment being accepted by the masses. He was his own person and never concerned himself with fitting in or being thought of as cool. The fact that he was pretty cool, didn’t affect his personality in the least.
“I don’t really care what people think of me. The things that I like and do are meant to keep myself happy not those around me.” That didn’t pertain to the fact that Nikko liked to make those around him feel comfortable, brighten their days with laughter and good times. But Nikko didn’t go out of his way to alter the way that he was in order to do so. “Sometimes you just got to belt out a tune, you know?” Everyone had those songs that whenever they popped into your mind you just had to sing it out. For him it was probably Ozzy’s Crazy Train and Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song, both of which were hilarious to hear Nikko jam to, not only because his singing was pitchy and unpleasant in general but he would get so into it that air guitar gestures and drumming were prone to happen.
Nikko clapped his hands, rubbing them together eagerly as Mini said that she would do it. Looking on he nodding his approval as the first note trilled out of her mouth. She wasn’t bad at all. Why Mini was concerned about what people might think of her singing was beyond him. She seemed to be able to hit the right notes, had a nice sweet tone, easy on the ears, most definitely. The lyrics made it all the more beautiful to hear. All in all Nikko was quite impressed. Mini put him to shame dozens of times over. Nikko walked up to Mini laying a hand on her shoulder and shook his head solemnly, teasing her just a little bit. “I’m sorry to tell you this but,” He paused a moment sighing heavily. “You’re singing is absolutely… awesome, like seriously what were you even hesitant about?” He cracked a small grin.

Once she finished with the song Nikko came over to her and put his hand on her shoulder and then complimented her. She smiled brightly and looked over at him. "Well thank you kind sir" she replied with a laugh and did a fake curtsy. It was nice hearing from someone other than her mom that she had a nice voice and nothing to be ashamed of. Maybe it was just part of being a girl, but it seemed that guys were always so much more confident and sure of themselves than their female counterparts. Of course that statement didn't stand true for all males or for all females but it was just an observation that Mini had made over the years. That and the fact that everyone always wanted what they didn't have, no matter what it seemed to be. The grass is always greener right? Wrong.
Mini liked hanging out with Nikko, he had a way of lightening the mood no matter the subject and was good at making people, well her at least, feel better than they had before. Mini didn't often spend time with guys other than her twin brother, her cousins and of course Lorcan and Lysander, more so Lorcan though since he was her best friends next to her brother. Mini had never dated anyone, being the more quiet, to herself kind of girl and not really ever being interested in guys before. Sure she thought some were cute and had been crushing on her best friend, Lorcan, for a while now but that wasn't something she would tell willingly to anyone. "So tell me about you. You have a big family or anything? Hobbies, anything?" she asked with a smile wanting to know what he liked to do.
She found a rock right near them and plopped down onto it hoping to have a nice little chat with Nikko before they had to get back to reality also known as school, classes and homework. Mini enjoyed learning about new people and making new friends, kind of a family trait. She was glad her family had sent her to Hogwarts instead of Beauxboutens, the school her mother had gone to, because going to an all girls school would have been just plain boring. She coudn't imagine being surrounded by girls. She had to admit that she got along better with the male members of her family than the female ones. Probably because she liked to avoid drama and girls were known to carry drama with them everywhere.

In a flourishing, over-dramatic bow Nikko dipped down in response to her curtsy. “You are most welcome m’lady.” His Scottish accent with distorted in a poor attempt to sound posh, it was just too thick and seemed to make his words jumble together even more than they already did. Eh, it was the effort that counted. He was clearly the playful type so poking fun at himself and making himself look stupid was par for the course. Nikko didn’t mind it any. In fact he amused himself greatly on many occasions. It kept him from being bored at least.
“I’m an only child. Always wanted a little brother though, someone that I could go around terrorizing the general public with, doing stupid things like spinning super fast on a merry-go-round until you feel like you’re about to up-chuck.” A consequence of being as flippant as Nikko was, happened to be that he could get vulgar as well, as boundaries seemed to be non-existent for him. With Mini being as classy as she seemed to be he wasn’t sure how well this particular trait of his would sit with her but, Nikko wasn’t much for censoring himself. His parents were hippies in their mentality so they had taught him never to repress himself even if something about him wasn’t all that amiable. Nikko was rowdy, to say the least.
As for hobbies the list was endless. “I’m one of those people that like to try everything at least twice, ‘cause just doing it once you can’t really get a taste for it now can you. But for hobbies that I do often, lets see, most are muggle mind you considering I’m a muggle-born, and include the old school video games like Pacman, Galaxia, Tertis, Donkey Kong, Street Fighter, Pong.” He was a classic nerd in that sense. “And I like to work on motorcycles. My dad found this 1969 Indian Velo 500, a real beater when he got it but we spent the summer fixing her up, 499cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine, thirty-four horsepower, wet clutch and chain drive. By the time we were done, she was a cherry I tell ya.” The luck of his dad coming across something like that had been once in a lifetime, but this old widow had it squirreled away in her garage, what she called a trinket of her late husband’s. Nikko’s dad wasn’t a crook though so had offered a fair price for it considering the work that needed to be done on it. Realizing that mini probably didn’t understand most of what he was rambling off about the motorcycle he leaned up against the rock gesturing a hand toward her. “And yourself? Besides singing and dance, of course, what do you like to do?”

When she heard he was an only child she mouthed the word wow. She could only imagine what it must have been like growing up in a small sized family like that. "No siblings, that is crazy. I have such a huge family, though I am sure you already know that since I am a Weasley. Everyone knows my family" she replied with a laugh. "I have so many cousins that it is insane, family functions are like giant. I love it but at the same time wonder what it would have been like on the other side of the river, small family and such" she added. She would never change anything about her life right now but wondering couldn't hurt anyone.
When he started talking about the motorcycle him and his dad had worked on and fxied up together she smiled. Really she had no idea what he was talking about but it was still nice that he had done something like that with his father. Sure she spent time with her family but never that intently. She was often busy spending time with her animals or doing any number of the other things she enjoyed. Maybe that was the hazard of having a large family, she just liked to escape a lot of the time and enjoy some time on her own doing the things she liked to do. "That is really cool that you got to do something like that with your father. Sounds like some great bonding time, just you and him" she replied with a smile. She did think it was a nice idea.
When he asked about her hobbies she paused for a moment to think, her list was huge so she was trying to narrow it down to just the ones she really liked. "Well I am an animal lover, avid horseback rider, avid gymnast. I also like to read and write and sometimes even draw. Obviously listen to music and I am quite the nerd" she replied with a laugh. It was true she loved school and actually loved to learn new things and didn't even mind doing school work except for potions, that was her east favorite subject, though she did make do. Most of her hobbies were ones that people generally did alone, but she also loved just spending time with people.

Her being from such an extensive family Nikko could see how his life style might seem foreign to her. He had never had to share a room, or his toys, Nikko had never had any one that he could bond with like a brother or sister, but his dad was essentially just a really big kid, so Nikko figured that with a dad like that he wasn’t missing out on too much. His parents were a bit weird by most people’s standards but he loved the unique approach they took in life. He had never felt unwanted or unloved in his entire life. To him, his life was perfect. The Linely family were financially set, though didn’t have money coming out their ears like some people did, his parents loved him and showed it often, and he was always happy. Wasn’t that what life was all about anyway? Finding out what makes you happy and then sticking with it? Nikko thought so at least.
“I don’t suspect it is all that much different than how your family is, just less crowded.” It offered Nikko plenty of time to himself if he wanted, that was for sure. But most of the time he didn’t mind spending time with his parents, especially not his dad. His mum could sometimes get like mothers could, all mushy and gushy over him, fussing over the way he parted his hair, or rather his lack of attention paid to what his hair looked like, or how Nikko would pick up any clean shirt and put it on in the morning regardless of whether it was wrinkled beyond belief.
Animals were pretty cool by Nikko’s view. They didn’t rely on the sort of stuff that humans did. Gathered food for themselves, made their own homes and the likes while most humans were dependent on, depending on whether they were muggle or wizard, their wands or stores and other people to have all the essential things in life as well as the luxuries. Gymnastics looked like it would be hard. Nikko definitely couldn’t get his body to be that limber. “How are you quite the nerd?” Nikko inquired having heard nothing that she said that could have been considered nerdish behavior. To him, Mini was a sweetheart, the genuine artifact actually.

"I guess I just couldn't imagine being in a small family. I am used to having people around me twenty four seven, it gets tiring sometimes but at the same time I love having the closeness" she replied with a smile. Her family was so different and versatile. Her father had a rough past and was the rock in their family, her mother was prim and proper, her brother was quiet and a lot like her, her sister was the one everyone seemed to look up to. Then there was her uncle Harry, Aunt Ginny, Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione, all of whom were survivors of that fateful day. She was lucky if she could go anywhere without at least someone knowing who she was and who her family was. But it wasn't so bad, she couldn't imagine how it must be for Albus, James, Lily, Hugo and Rose. They all had a lot to live up to, at least that is what people thought.
When he asked how she was a nerd she smiled and thought for a moment. "Wekk my family tells me that I take after my aunt Hermione. I guess she was big into studying and books and such. I love to learn and love my classes. I spend almost all of my free time reading, writing, studying and doing homework. My friends like to joke that I spend too much time with my nose stuffed in a book" she explained with a small laugh. She didn't mind it though, she got high marks on her work and because of this was left alone by the teachers, her parents were never on her case and people only saw her as just another sweet Weasley girl. There were a lot of them now, Weasley's, especially girls.
Really when she looked back upon her life up to this point she had never really done anything exciting or memorable. Sure she had memories of her horses and such but she had never done something out of the box, or anything extreme. She lived a very rule based life and didn't like to break the rules that had been layed out for her. Sure people may think she is boring because of this but it was just how she had been raised. She honestly couldn't imagine ever going agaist when her elders told her. It would make her feel horrible to know that she was disappointing or hurting someone else and so she tried her best to never do that. Maybe a little to conscious about the feelings of others but so far it had worked for her.

Nikko didn’t think that closeness was exclusively attributed to large families, considering his family consisting of just his mum, dad, and self, was, of course, small and close, but he didn’t argue with her on the matter. After all, how was he to know what a large family was like or how they operated? He had always thought that with a large family it would be easier for you to slip into the cracks and be forgotten as, who had time to keep track of so many people? All Nikko could do was take Dominique’s word for it though, and that was precisely what he did. As he saw it, Mini had no reason to lie to him so he had no reason to suspect that she was.
He nodded his understanding to both matters. “Some might just say that you are a smart lass, but nerd works too.” Nikko shrugged nonchalant-like. He wasn’t much for cracking open a book himself. There wasn’t anything out there that Nikko couldn’t learn just as well from personal experience, hands-on work that he could learn from a book. Essentially, it seemed, he was the exact opposite of Mini. Where she claimed to be studious, he was carefree and all willy nilly. It mattered little about commonalities. Regardless of their differences, so far, Nikko found Mini to be a rather amiable person. He wasn’t about to turn his nose up at her for being dorky, not a chance.
“To each their own and all that beat.” His smile ever-present on his lips, widened with that said. When it came to smarts, Nikko had more street smarts than book smarts or common sense. Well the latter wasn’t completely lacking, it was just set aside in favour of being reckless and accommodating his whims. So common sense was there, but ignored. “About these books of yours; is it just about study for you, like reading text books, or are you into reading for the pure pleasure of it. Not much for either myself but I have been known to crack open a book on occasion.” Most that knew him well, whenever such an event occurred, felt it necessary to metaphorically frame the moment, like a meteor shower that came around not nearly often enough and was worthy of being appreciated in memory.

When he asked about books she had to think on it, there were so many that she liked and she had to think of a way to condense it and not answer his question with an essay. "I like just reading for fun, textbooks are good when I am curious about things or need to do homework but mainly I like to read for kicks. I mainly read fantasy, science fiction, horse based novels and other books such as those. I will read non fiction books as well but they are right up there with textbooks, only read when I feel I need the knowledge" she replied with a smile. Even though she had tried to cut her answer short she had still answered with quite a long winded response. Oh well, that was just how she was. Overzealous at times she supposed.
Suddenly Mini got the idea to look down at her watch to check the time and she gasped slightly. "Oh wow, the time has escaped me completely! I have class in fifteen minutes, I should really be going. It was so great talking to you though. I am sure I will see you around" she replied with a smile and leaned down to grab her bag from the place she had dropped it earlier. She pulled her scarf around her neck and then with a last wave and smile she broke into a jog up the hill towards the school. She hated to be late, actually kinda hated to be just on time. She was always early and today she knew she would be pushing it. She still needed to stop by her room to grab her books and then head to class. She hadn't thought she would get so caught up at the whomping willow, she did hope she would see Nikko again though, he seemed like he would make a good friend.

Nikko nodded his head slowly as Mini spoke. As he had expected her literary interests were rather vast. He pretty much stuck with comic books that was the extent of Nikko’s reading. He liked the older Superman ones and Batman, classics, epic… totally in Nikko’s interest. Sure he read actual books too, like that one about that guy that had some government clone that went around killing people, what was it called? Mr. Murder, that was it. That had been awesome and managed to keep Nikko’s attention. A real accomplishment because not too many could or did. He had never heard such a thing as horse based novels, but figured it had something to do with the book being written in the horse’s perspective, which he wasn’t sure how that worked exactly. “Cool.” Nikko said despite his internal confusion.
As Mini looked down at her watch he already had a feeling of what was coming. He knew that some had classes, but Nikko was a sixth year, he had the great fortune to have some free time between his classes. He had dropped a few that he no longer wanted to take, for example. Mini didn’t have the same schedule as he did. If Nikko wasn’t mistaken, she was a fifth year. That meant OWLS and most were busy with that, loaded with course work. “Alright.” Nikko gave her a lazily two-finger salute in parting. “See you around Sweetheart.” Once Mini was well on her way back to the castle Nikko resided his seat on the ground and lit himself another cigarette. He had time to kill and idle hands, it suited him.
