[/div] tearing love apart, Looking in the mirror, Lucy frowned. She didn't think she was ball worthy. She didn't know who she was paired with, and that was the whole point. She didn't know who was going to be on the other side of that mask that her partner was wearing. And what if they were disappointed that they got half vampire Lucy? She knew she was pretty, but most people avoided her simply because of her blood status. She'd been somewhat humbled lately, by a muggle born named Dunstable. He'd shown her that she didn't have to rely on blood status to be friends with someone. As she raised her wand to magically do her hair, she was thinking of him. Her hair rose up high above her head and began to twist and braid itself. It ended up piled on her head with an elegant bun and a braid, she smiled at her handy work. Next was makeup. Even though her mask would be on until midnight, she wanted to have some make up on for when it came off. She didn't want to look like a hag when she removed it. So she swept on some blush and eyeshadow, followed by mascara and a thin line of eye liner. She stepped back from the mirror, impressed with her head so far. Turning to her chest, she knealed down and opened it. What she saw made her want to cry. A long red dress that she'd picked for the ball was ruined. It laid in tatters in the chest. She tentatively reached out to to touch the ruins, not sure what to do. She knew who'd done this. Removing the carcass of a dress from the chest, she dumped in on the bed of the girl who'd ruined it, and with her wand, set it on fire. Let that be a lesson, she thought. Returning to her chest, she reached through a few piles of clothes to remove a large box. For just this reason, she'd had a back up dress sent to her. Removing the lid, Luce smiled. She lifted a one shouldered white dress from the box. It was tight and elegant, just what she wanted. She shimmied into it and smiled at the way it fitted. It was like a second skin. She slipped her feet into some heals and whispered a spell that would make them like walking on clouds, thus not hurting her feet. And last but not least, Lucy removed a mask from her bedside table. It was white feathers, with silver diamonds just underneath the eyes. She smiled and put it on. Excited to see how it all fit together, she stepped back in front of the mirror. She gasped. She was magnificent. She was sure to upstage the jealous girl who'd ruined her red dress! Smiling, she tucked her wand into a magically concealed pocket in her dress and walked out of her dorm. Walking through the corridors to the Great Hall, she wondered who her partner would be. She got lots of appreciative cat calls and whistles from other guys on the way, but didn't take them to heart. They didn't know who was behind the mask. Entering the Great Hall, she marveled at the beauty of the decorations. The professors had really gone all out for this. She stood by her table, her hands folded in front of her, waiting. The candle light caught the sequins on the side of her dress, bringing any passing eyes to the skin that was revealed. Not much, just something sexy yet pretty at the same time. She was so nervous. What if she got Jacob? Or some other girl? She really wanted it to be somebody who could at least stand to be in her presence for a few hours and then not snort in disgust when she removed her gorgeous mask. The masquerade ball had sounded like a neat idea to Dunstable and he had decided to go and somehow at the same time he managed to convince Albus that he should try it out as well. What could it hurt? They would learn something new about someone without even realizing who it was behind the mask. Looking at himself in the mirror Dunstable flattened the white coat of his outfit. He was really glad that over the summer his grandfather had taken him out to find this costume. It was perfect, white with gold on it so that he still showed him some of his Hufflepuff pride. Perhaps that would give him away? No he was sure there would be others that show off some of their houses colors. He smiled at himself before reaching over to the table that his mask laid on. A golden mask with black feathers that stuck out of it. It was perfect and not too showy for a mask. He figured he leave the showy masks to the girls, they were much better at that. He glanced at himself once again before picking up his hat and placing it on his head before heading on out of the Hufflepuff Common room. As he entered the Great Hall with everyone else he took a number and then glanced up to see who what table he was required to sit at. He found his number and saw that it was table thirty-five. So he made his way there, keeping his eyes open to see who else was at the table, or headed that way since he may have gotten there before the other person. Finally he spotted another person at table thirty-five and she was, well breath taking, that was for sure. The way the white dress she wore hug her body really brought out her features and her mask really did bring out the girl’s hazel eyes, the way they shimmered in the candlelight in the room was breath taking. Yet he had this distinct feeling he recognized her eyes, but he couldn’t quite figure out who they belong to. But that was how it was supposed to be for the ball right? You weren’t supposed to know who you were talking to so you got to know the real person behind the mask before the mask was even taken off. He soft lips curled up into a smile once he stood before the girl, he took her hand and kissed it lightly on the top of it. “ My you look beautiful tonight,” he said softly, “ It’s an honor to be matched up with such a beautiful girl,” he said softly as he let go of her hand. A light pink blush was on his cheeks as he felt a slight bit embarrassed about what he had just done. ( OUTFIT )

[/div] tearing love apart, Lucy's arm hung down at her sides, her fingers smoothing the fabric nervously. She watched as people were entering the Great Hall, each one oohing and ahhing over the decorations. She saw people greeting each other at tables, and wondered where her partner was. She wasn't entirely sure. Maybe the person was a dud and wasn't going to show? She was about to turn and leave when she heard someone behind her. She turned her head to see someone dressed entirely in white, with gold trimming, from head to toe. It was as if he knew she would be wearing white as well! He took her hand and kissed it, bowing at the same time. A blush crept into her cheeks, flattered by this man. Tonight she decided to let all her inhibitions go. He didn't know who she was. She could be someone entirely different tonight, someone she wanted to be. Not the person she was. She used her one free hand to pull her dress out a little curtseying for him. She pulled her hand free of his and stood there embarrassed. My my, what a charmer he was! "Why thank you, you look very handsome yourself," she replied. She pulled out a chair and sat down, her hands tucking her dress softly underneath her. She drummed her nails on the table, then looked up at the gentlemen before her. "Care to join me?" she asked, her voice light and airy. The whole point of tonight was to dance and get to know one another. But she wasn't very good at dancing. She was horrible at it actually. Hopefully he would understand. But if he insisted on her dancing, she would eventually give in. Most dances were male led anyways, so hopefully he wouldn't notice she had two left feet. "It is an honor to be paired with such a gentlemen sir," she replied to his comment. He was so kind to her! And he looked dashing in his outfit. She especially loved the gold embroidery on the tux. It was beautiful. And the mask accented his ensemble well. The black feathers really made the gold stand out. Maybe he was from Hufflepuff? Who knew. She wasn't about to give away what house she was in. She knew that as soon as she said Slytherin, he would walk away. "Well, this is about getting to know one another. Want to play twenty questions?" she asked, looking up at him. DRESSMASK you're gonna catch a cold, with the ice inside your soul

“ Why thank you, you look very handsome yourself, Dunstable’s soft lips curled up into a cute half smile as he nodded in thanks for the complement. He slightly wondered who it was that he got paired up with, but he figured that it would be a lot more fun to just get to know her and find out in the end, rather than try to guess the whole time who it was. It would only ruin the whole surprise after all. He watched as the young beautiful girl sat down at the table they were assigned at, “ Care to join me?”. “ It would be an honor to join you,” he smirked once again before taking his seat in the chair opposite of her. What was it about this girl that brought out the more gentleman part of Dunstable? There was also that itching feeling that he was sure he knew this girl. “ It is an honor to be paired with such a gentlemen sir,” he blushed, but was glad to know that she at least thought he was a gentleman. And tonight he would be a true gentleman, although many have told him he was most of the time, but that was without trying. Tonight he wanted to make this girl happy and showed that she got paired up with such a wonderful guy, who knew what that might do for him in the end. For all he knew this girl could be the one he was destined to be with, but he didn’t know that and he just wanted to be nice. “ Well, this is about getting to know one another. Want to play twenty questions? Twenty Questions, that seemed like a good idea and Dunstable knew exactly what his first question was going to be. “ Alright, I like that idea as long as I get to go first,” he smirked yet again as he stood up and held his hand before the young girl. “ Would you care to dance with me?” he blushed lightly. Yes that was indeed the first question that he wanted to ask her. It would perhaps be more fun if they asked as they danced the night away in the light renaissance style of music. ( OUTFIT )

[/div] tearing love apart, Lucy smiled sweetly at him. For now she could act like the girl that she'd always wanted to be. Even other passerbys smiled politely at her, not knowing who she was. Maybe this ball idea wasn't such a bad one after all? As the young man sat down next to her, she cradled her hands in her lap, unsure of what to do. But at his eagerness to play twenty questions, she locked eyes with him. Had he just asked her to dance? Luce smiled and gently took his hand, allowing him to lead her across the dance floor. Twirling, she laid one hand gently on his shoulder and let the other rest comfortably in his. Her gown swirled around her feet, the material just a hairs breath above the floor. She kept a respectable distance from his body though, to make sure everyone was comfortable. They danced between all the couples, a slow dance on. She had a song in her head by a muggle band called Seether, and it was a song called Broken. Her heart panged as the song was played quietly in her head. She secretly wondered if the song was stuck in her head because she'd heard some kid singing it today, or if it was because it was how she was feeling as of late. So he'd asked the first question. If she wanted to dance. And clearly they were dancing, so she figured it was her turn. "What's your favorite class?" she asked. Her's was Charms. There was something satisfying in knowing that you could correctly perform a charm spell, especially with tainted blood. It boosted your confidence. Plus that class came rather easy to her. As they danced, she kept staring into his eyes. They were so soft, so gentle, and so familiar. Probably lots of people right now thought that they recognized their partners, but Lucy really did think so. DRESSMASK you're gonna catch a cold, with the ice inside your soul

Dunstbale smiled at the girl as she took a hold of her hand, it felt delicate in his so he made sure to treat her with care and to be gentle. Softly he led her on out to the floor before she twirled in his arms, her dress shimmering in the candlelight of the room was really a breath taking sight. “How beautiful,
” he whispered softly once she had finished twirling and now had one hand on his shoulder and one in his hand. He was sure he had seen her somewhere before, but where? But now wasn’t the time to try and figure that out, once the clock stroke midnight he’d know who she was. Carefully he led them into a slow dance, listening to the peaceful slow music as they slow danced their way around other couples. It was really a site to see so many people talking amongst each other without really knowing who was who. He wondered where Al was and who he was partnered up with. He hoped that for Al’s sake it wasn’t someone who hated Slytherins, he had enough of a hard time from James when it came to that. “ What’s your favorite class?” her angelic voice broke his thoughts and his deep brown eyes met her deep sapphire eyes and only caused him to blush lightly. “ Charms, it really is a wonder to be able to charm things. One of my favorite charms is the laughing charm. It’s perfect for those dreary days,” he said lightly as he thought of the few times he had used it on Al when he was in a sour mood. Of course Al didn’t particularly like it, but it helped him. “ How about you?” he asked curiously. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

[/div] tearing love apart, His hand held her's gently in his own, as if she was so delicate she was made of porcelain. Her feminist side was taken aback by this gentlemenly gesture, and she allowed him to treat her so. It was like she was a princess! Man, Hogwarts should have one of these more often, because this night was making her feel like a real girl, someone that everyone wanted to be around. Or at least this guy. As they twirled in the candlelight, Lucy couldn't help but feel like a princess. She was wearing a beautiful gown and was dancing in the arms of a handsome guy. How could this get any better? He answered that his favorite class was charms and she smiled. That was her favorite class too! But what was her favorite charm? Probably the impurterbable charm. It was able to project a boundary around an object, kind of like a barrier. It meant that she could truly be alone when she locked herself in a cubicle in the library, or if she wanted to pull a Moaning Myrtle and lock herself in the girl's bathroom. It meant privacy, privacy that she didn't get in her own dorm. She twirled in his arms, her feet skimming across the dance floor, her face alight with joy. This really was such a great night. She couldn't wait to see who was behind his mask. She could only hope that he wasn't disappointed with who was behind her's. "Your turn, next question," she said, smiling. This boy was so charming! What about him made him so familiar? Her eyes were locked onto his, trying to see into his soul and figure out what and who he was. DRESSMASK you're gonna catch a cold, with the ice inside your soul

He hadn’t realized that he was still gazing into her beautiful sapphire eyes. When was the last time he looked at a person like this? He wasn’t sure, but it was probably a long time ago. He rarely crushed on a girl as often as girls crushed on him. But there was just something about the girl he was now dancing with. Something familiar, as well as the fact that it felt right for the two of them to be dancing like this. Why was it like that? He wasn’t even sure, it would probably make more sense if he knew who this girl was. “Your turn, next question,” her voice broke his thoughts as he realized the he forgot that they were playing a game of twenty questions. “Hmm… What’s your favorite candy?
” he asked her lightly. His was pumpkin pasties, he really did love the way they melted into his mouth as he ate them. And then there was the way his Aunt Ginny made them that made them taste even better than the store bought version. He was carefully gliding her across the floor as he waited for her answer, being careful not to bump into anyone along the way. He didn’t want to start any fights or anything else on such a peaceful night. He just hoped that the girl he was with was enjoying it as much as he was. After all, he was trying his best to make a night she remembered, but he wasn’t really sure why he felt that he should do that. There just had to be something about this girl that would make him even think that. ( OUTFIT ) [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Twirling in his arms, she couldn’t help but notice how delicately he held her, and yet how forcefully and manly he led them across the floor, not bumping them into anyone. Which suited her just fine, because she didn’t particularly want to get kicked out of the ball just because a fight had started from her clumsy feet tripping and hitting someone. It wouldn’t be good. Her eyes locked onto his warm brown ones and found herself lost in them, trying to figure out who it was. She got so lost in them, that when he asked her what her favorite candy was, she had to force her eyes away. She thought about it a moment. It was usually chocolate frogs, because she liked the idea of earning her prize. Nothing in life ever came on a silver platter. At least not to her.
”Well, this is weird I suppose, but I like chocolate frogs because you have to catch your prize, you have to earn the right to eat it. And I like a challenge.” Blushing, she realized word vomit has caused her to state her stance on this topic. It was just candy, couldn’t she come out with a simple response? Did she really have to debate her point to someone she didn’t even know? She was dipped low, looking up into his eyes and she blushed, her skin flushing with blood. Standing back up she was again pulled into a dance across the floor.
What would her next question be? Something interesting, that’s for sure. She didn’t want him to think her superficial by asking questions like what kind of clothes he wore, or who he hung out with. She wanted to know something about him personally, not physically. ”Well, what’s your favorite past time?” she asked, looking at him again. Her’s was sitting and reading, or cooking and reading at the same time. She found that she was a good cook, and that she could finish an average sized book in two days. ”Back home, I have this window bench that I like to sit on and read on. It’s got a great view of our gardens, especially at night with the sunset,” she said, explaining herself yet again. Too bad she couldn’t be like that Seizel kid and just speak in limited word supplies. Perhaps this was her folly, her downfall.

“Well, this is weird I suppose, but I like chocolate frogs because you have to catch your prize, you have to earn the right to eat it. And I like a challenge.” Dunstable tilted his head slightly smiling at the light blush that appeared upon her cheeks. She was sure that she was a bit embarrassed about why chocolate frogs were her favorite sweet, but in all honesty Dunstable thought it was cute. He dipped her lightly, gazing into her sapphire eyes as if searching for the person they belonged to before bringing her back up.
“Well, what’s your favorite past time?” He thought for a moment wondering what exactly was his favorite pastime as he had any. There was Quidditch, building his models and enchanting them and then there was just flying in general. He didn’t know for sure that he could just pick one; it was an awfully hard choice for him. “Back home, I have this window bench that I like to sit on and read on. It’s got a great view of our gardens, especially at night with the sunset,” he smiled at her thinking that, that was actually a pretty pleasant pastime, tough his home didn’t have a window bench or anything like that. “That seems like a really relaxing pastime,
” he said cheerfully as he danced them around another couple being careful not to him them. “ As for me, well there’s a few things I really like to do, but I really do enjoy flying, and I mean just flying around on a broom letting the wind blow through your air. It really is relaxing to me and helps me clear my mind to help me think,” he said thoughtfully before he twirled her out again, watching her dress spin once more and then twirled her back into his arms. “ So, what do you want to do once you graduate from Hogwarts?” he asked her curiously. Lucy twirled in the man's arms, her face turned up into a grin that rarely graced her features. She felt safe and secure in his arms, something she had never felt before. As he carefully maneuvered around another couple, she felt like she could just glide around this floor with him forever. A slow song came on, and she slowed the pace just a little, moving in closer to him. From what she'd been seeing other girls do, she had to move in a little so that she could put her head on his shoulder. But she wasn't about to be so forward with someone she didn't know, so she just moved a little closer to make it more intimate, like she had a feeling it was supposed to be.
Lucy listened to him talk about flying, as though it were actually enjoyable. She supposed that it might be, but she was terrified of heights. Just thinking of being up on a broom made her want to shudder. She knew that if she fell she would get hurt, and if she was high enough up on the broom, that she could die. She was just so afraid of heights that she'd never even tried flying before. All it took was looking down after climbing up a tall tree when she was a little girl.
"Well I've always been afraid of heights, deathly afraid of them. I've not once gotten on a broom because of this." His next question, that of what she wanted to do once she graduated, had her thinking. She hadn't even thought about that. It wasn't something that she'd ever thought about really. What could a half vampire do after school? Who would want to hire her? She did like writing, and thought that a career in journalism would be fantastic, but she didn't think it was something that she could pursue. It was an idea though. "Well, to be honest, I don't have an idea. I like to write, so maybe I can be a journalist? I haven't given it much thought, I tend to live in the 'now' rather than the 'later'."

“ Well I've always been afraid of heights, deathly afraid of them. I've not once gotten on a broom because of this.” Dunstable nodded, letting her know that it was okay to be afraid. He knew that not everyone agreed with heights. After all it was a long ways up, he just tried not to think of the long drop if he were to fall while he was up in the air. But then again, he had a wand that could do magic and he knew a spell that would help him float safely back to the ground. But then again, not everyone thinks on their feet when something like that happens. They panic, forgetting everything they knew before it is too late.
“ Well, to be honest, I don't have an idea. I like to write, so maybe I can be a journalist? I haven't given it much thought, I tend to live in the 'now' rather than the 'later'” A journalist sounded like a pretty neat idea. “Hey you never know, you may one day end up writing about me and my amazing Quidditch Abilities,
” he joked lightly before letting her out for a spin and then spinning her back into his arms, dipping her once more just as the clock chimed midnight. He held her, keeping her dipped before him as he gazed into her lovely eyes. It was time for him to find out who it was behind the mask now. “ Well, I guess it’s time to reveal who we are?” he smiled gently, still gazing into her eyes, waiting for her to make the first move. Lucy smiled at him, feeling safe in his arms. He seemed to know what she was talking about, and it made her feel like they had a connection, like they had met somewhere before. Her hands rested lightly where they should be, one in one of his hands, the other resting on his shoulder. How cute they looked, the woman in a startling white dress and the gentlemen in the white tux with elegant gold trimming.
She laughed lightly as he twirled her away, their fingertips just holding onto each other, and then pulled her back to him. She came to rest just inches from his face, and he slowly dipped her down, their eyes locked. She was breathing a little heavy from the spinning and dancing. Her chest rose and fell in rhythm and time once more, and he spoke to her softly, still looking down at her. From behind the elegantly feathered mask, her blue eyes searched his face, scared to reveal who she was.
Why couldn't one just go through life like this? Why did everyone have to judge you by your blood, couldn't you just skate through life with friends and people who cared about who you were, not who your parents were, or what blood status you held. With trembling fingers, she reached a hand up to untie the back of her mask, letting the feathered ensemble rest in her hand, still against her face. "Please don't judge me when you see me," she thought out loud, her words just barely audible, and only he would hear because he was so close to her. She lowered the mask, letting her big blue eyes take over her face. Holding the mask at her side, she stared up at him, her breath held, her eyes dancing with hope and anticipation.

“Please don't judge me when you see me,” Dunstable tilted his head to the side curiously. Why would she think that he would judge her? He was never the one to judge people. But then again, she didn’t even know who he was. “I promise I won’t
” he said with a smile as he carefully stood her back up while she took her mask off. Once he was sure that she would be find standing, he reached up to take his mask off as well, wanting to take his off at the same time as hers. As well as not seeing who she was until his mask off. But once his mask was off, revealing who he was he opened his eyes to see the beautiful Lucy Sanguini standing before him. “ Lucy…” he started off as a light blush formed on his cheeks. He never thought that he would get partnered up with her, but he was quite glad that he did so he could learn more about the girl that he had hung out with at the Whomping Willow. But was she glad that she got partnered up with him? “ I’m glad I got partnered up with you, ” he said softly, raising his hand up to her face and tucking a loose strand of golden blond hair behind her ear. “ Perhaps we could meet up again, maybe at the next ball? This time without the masks?” he didn’t know why, but he felt that he should ask her to the Yule Ball hopefully she would say yes. ( OUTFIT ) [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Lucy felt him picking her up to stand facing him. They removed their masks at the same time, her fingers almost shaking. Would he walk away in disgust? Would he be okay with it? What if he was just someone pretending to be this nice? What if it was a sick joke, and someone had switched partners with her, and it was someone who just wanted to hurt her? Lucy removed the white feathered mask from her eyes and saw that it was the guy from the Whomping Willow the other day.
Dunstable stood in front of her, and the look on his face made her feel like he wasn't going to run away. In fact, he looked delighted. At first she wanted to sneer, but she remembered all the fear and desperation that she had just been feeling, and swallowed those emotions. Dunstable was still standing there with her, and he'd actually said that he was happy that she'd gone and been his partner. Before she could respond, he asked her to the Yule Ball dance.
Olivia wasn't going to like it if she found out that Lucy had just danced with a muggleborn, and that he'd asked her to the Yule Ball. She was about to say no, when she smiled and her mouth spoke before her brain could catch up. "I'd love to," she said, her hands reaching out to straighten his tie. Her fingers wavered. "I had a great time tonight Dunstable. You're the only person who's ever treated me like a woman. Like a human being." That last bit was a bit understated, as she was half vampire. But she really did have a great night. "See you then?" she questioned, biting her bottom lip shyly.
