Max is gay, but is currently afraid to admit it to himself, let alone anyone else. He has an overbearing father who has always pushed him to be more outgoing and sporty, and so he personifies that well to everyone around him.
He is also extremely musically gifted, writing classical music at night despite having never properly learnt an instrument. However, since he has never told anyone that he writes music, his talent remains unknown. Currently he is finding it difficult to concentrate in class and his grades are dropping during his numerous failed attempts to find a girl he is actually attracted to.
potential plots
1. Obviously someone's got to find out sooner or later that he's gay and Max needs to deal with it, so I have a plan. As you'll see if you read the end of Max's bio, he kissed a guy once before when he was drunk, and is considering drinking again before going after a girl - thinking the alcohol must surely be what made it feel so good. So, he needs a male drinking buddy to sneak out to Hogsmeade with him one night, and of course, because drama abounds in roleplay, Max will end up kissing his friend instead of any of the available girls.
2. Someone's gotta be wondering what Max is always scribbling down on the corner of notebooks or on his hand - his music. Someone needs to find out about his music and confront him about it. If it's a friend who finds it they'll probably be disparaging and wonder why he's wasting his time with it. Alternatively, it could be someone who actually knows music and realises it's good, or someone who just persuades him that he needs to get his music played for real.
3. He tries to imitate his older brother Billy, a 7th year, so if anyone wanted to play him that would be great. How I imagine him, Billy is very similar to their father, great at sports, and tries to mould Max into someone more like himself.
4. Friends in general! Hopefully Max has some decent friends who have realised that he's been acting weirdly lately and are trying to find out what's wrong. Normally Max is cheerful and a joker, not really taking things seriously and into sport - from the outside, at least, so his friends would probably be similar.
5. He's led on and kissed a fair amount of girls since September and has then promptly left to find someone else the moment he realises he doesn't actually like them, so I'm sure there are a few girls who aren't too keen on him at the moment.

Ohai, meet your potential music buddy here!
Nicholas Talbot is in the sixth year, and is extremely musical. He's actually insanely talented, both instrumentally and vocally, and is involved in the choir club. He aims to make it big in the music industry after graduating Hogwarts. He's got a gorgeous girlfriend of three years who's kind of obsessed with him and his talent because she's sure it'll make them rich when they get married and all, but that has nothing to do with Max. XD
Nick is a good guy. He's really friendly to everyone, and so he would definitely not have any sort of an issue with Max though there is a year's age difference. If he got a hold of Max's music and took a look at it, he'd definitely encourage him to get it out there. I mean, since music is his life Nick'd kinda like to think he knows something about it, at least. XD

Yay, music buddy! I feel that Max would know about Nick because of his musical talent and be kind of jealous that Nick can just do all of that without pressure against it, and he probably wouldn't approach Nick on his own because Nick doesn't really fit with the crowd he hangs with (Nick is the kind of crowd he'd LOVE to hang with if he felt he had more choice). Generally Max would be nice enough to Nick but he can have a sharp tongue at times if he feels threatened or nervous, which could have been directed at Nick in the past.
As for his music, what Max knows is primary school museic lessons, self-taught and from listening in on his sister's viola lessons. I imagine the music he writes as being melodically sound (no pun intended) but written with numerous typographical errors. I figure it's recognisable as decent music, just written down badly.
He's taken to staying up late writing his music, so maybe one night he's doing that in the common room alone and Nick walks in - maybe Max doesn't see/hear him or in his hurry to hide what he's doing he drops the paper everywhere, but somehow the music needs to be unintentionally shown to Nick.

Oh so, I'm thinking he'd totally be enemies with Max, and wouldn't care about how much he is with his feminine side. In fact, Romulus would make fun of him for it if he even heard rumors about him. Plus just being a Gryffindor is enough for him to hate him.

I would like to offer Mini up as a friend. They are same year, same house so I figure they would at least know of each other in some way or another. Mini is a complete and utter sweetheart and doesn't tend to judge people no matter who or what the are. She definitely wouldn't judge him for being gay if she did find out about it. I can offer her as a good friend, she does have a best friend currently but if you think they are a good match her and Max could be close friends as well. Anywho, let mek now :]
