is anybody out there ? hogsmeade was a favourite place of many students and adults around hogwarts, including alaric, but his reasoning was far from many of theirs. when he came to this little village, as he'd done many, many times through the years, he came not for the company or the 'fabulous' shopping opportunities, but the peace and quiet. the woods along the small little shopping area were peaceful, quiet, and though the shrieking shack was a favourite place for many students at hogwarts on downcast days like today it was peaceful and quiet, just as alaric liked it. the weather today was rather dreary, not raining, but cloudy with the promise of showers later on in the day... far better than the sunlight that would leave the vampire's skin burning.
it was weird, being better known, now. he wasn't really a celebrity, not every person around knew his name, but through his years on puddlemere united, now as its captain, his face had been put out there and it wasn't unusual for him to be recognized. after spending the last few decades disappearing from wherever it was his lived, never seeing the same people twice so that no one would notice he was aging and therefore never be recognized, it was odd indeed. that was much of the reason why he liked to hang out by the shrieking shack. the atmosphere was a bit eerie, yeah, but he knew the place was harmless, and best of all it was quiet. no risk of anyone going 'omg, you're alaric ayala!' and never leaving him alone. god fans were annoying.
at the moment he was leaning against a trunk just inside the treeline around the shrieking shack, arms folded over his chest, watching the solitary building. he and his sister... they used to come here all the time, teasing each other about locking the other in the building with the ghosts and monsters that lurked within. monsters had been easy to joke about back then, before reality came crashing down. there were good memories here, if he cared to think back to remember them, but right now alaric wasn't looking for a jolly stroll down memory lane. he just wanted to relax, have some peace, and he got that leaning against the tree, eyes closing as he listened to the sounds of nature around him.

isabelle ran a hand through her hair as she walked out of the tavern. having stopped in there for a butter beer or two she'd had enough of being in there alone, and of the people who has obviously been drinking too much fire whiskey. she walked quick, her ears and nose sensed someone trailing behind her and she frowned slightly, keeping her head down she ducked down one of the alleyways hidden in around the side of one of the buildings and she kept walking, her boots echoing on the stone floor as she walked. it wasn't that she was afraid of him, the person following her, she could take care of him, she'd have an advantage most girls didn't, she had the strength of being a werewolf on her side, but still, if he was strong, she'd probably have a bit of trouble fighting him off.
but she kept walking, her steps lightly her feet quick as she hurried down the alley, convinced that she would loose him, hoping he'd be too drunk to follow her through the tree's she now past through. she could use the tunnel to get back to hogwarts if she had too, if he didn't know where it was he wouldn't be able to follow her. she started to run, hearing him follow behind her. she frowned and looked over her shoulder, her eyes widening in surprise as she smelled that he too was a werewolf. she could smell it, the scent was strong as he chased her through the trees. okay so so much for her having a slight edge, obviously she still needed to work out her sense of smell, she hdnt been able to smell him till they'd been away from other people.
she ducked around a tree and she ran a hand through her hair, her arms were by her sides as she ran, her boots crunching through on the ground as she ran, the light rain hitting her jacket and suddenly she felt his weight on her, she grunted as he forced her against the tree, the air slamming out of her lungs and the side of her face grazing against the bark of the large stature and she felt him grab her shoulder and spin her around, forcing her back against the tree and she couldn't help the snarl that fell from her lips. she made to slam her knee in his leg, seeing him flinch but then his hand was around her leg, the large hand covering her thin limb easy and she struggled against her hold, his eyes flashing yellow, his head came closer to hers and she struggled, closing her eyes as to not have to look at him when all of a sudden his weight was off her, and she dropped to the ground, her eyes looking up, searching for what had happened. she could feel a few streaks of blood run down her cheek, but she ignored them for now, her eyes trained on the stranger in front of her, his scent, she'd never smelled it before. it wasn't human, and it wasn't werewolf.

is anybody out there ? it was the scent that he noticed first, the sharp, rancid stench of a creature that hate of was ingrained into alaric's very being. he straightened his body away from the tree trunk, eyes flashing open and quickly narrowing as he peered through the trees in the direction of the vulgar stench, peering for its cause. clearly, given his status, alaric couldn't claim that all 'near-human' creatures were scum that should be obliterated, but oh how nice it could be if the werewolves didn't exist... not one had ever done anything personally to the beater, other than a drunken fight or two (or seven) through the decades, but a hatred for the dogs had been built into him from the moment he'd woken up in the basement where he'd been turned. the rivalry between werewolves and vampires was as old as time itself. no, it didn't make him lunge at the throat of every wolf he passed, but the thought was certainly tempting.
the narrowed eyes were joined by a frown, though, when he realized that behind the stench of wolf there lingered two individual scents, and the fast approaching sound of running feet. a moment later she saw them, a young girl bolting through the trees, practically flying at the speed her legs were carrying her, and a man in quick pursuit. staying still, alaric's eyes followed them as they ran, taking in the situation. it was clear that this wasn't some leisurely, playful stroll through the trees to a romantic location by a young couple. the man's intent was malevolent, and the girl was terrified.
before alaric's eyes, the chase ended, the man the victor. the girl was pushed up against a tree, no hope of escape. perhaps if he was a normal man she would... but he wasn't. they were as equal as two regular old humans, and then his size gave him the obvious advantage. before the vampire knew what he was doing, though, he was behind the bastard assaulting the girl. an outstretched arm, no wand magic needed, pulled the man away from the girl in an instant, and as alaric turned rapidly behind him the man was hurtled through the air, thrown to the ground roughly ten metres away from alaric. the wolf quickly scrambled to his feet, looking absolutely enraged, and reached for his pocket. a wand, really? alaric didn't need such things. he could, but the magic made from wands was... erratic for him. he'd learned it was easier to use the magic automatically built into him, so the fact that the wolf thought he had a chance of getting to his wand was really amusing to the vampire. "go ahead," he encouraged, a cold smirk curving his lips as his head tilted slightly to the side. "try me." something in his tone must have driven in the point that he was not one to be trifled with. the fury in the wolf's eyes was obvious, but he made the smart choice and promptly turned to run. alaric watched him go for a moment, their entire exchange only taking a few seconds before the beater turned back to the girl against the tree, now on the ground, and crossed his arms as he looked down on her. "got yourself into a bit of a mess, didn't you, pup?" there was the usual smirk on his lips, one that anyone who was familiar with alaric would know well (though those people could be counted on his two hands). "be more careful. next time all 'white-knights' might be back at the castle and you'll be, well, screwed." he wasn't one for conversation. he'd helped fantastic. perhaps helping out a teenager ranked just above helping a little old lady cross the street. it was his good deed for the week, no need to linger. without another word the vampire turned, taking a few steps back towards hogsmeade before he paused, a new scent in the air distracting him. blood. he turned back to the girl, one eyebrow raising. "you're hurt."[/blockquote] [/div] Bitter.Sweet.Sundown. @caution

"got yourself into a bit of a mess, didn't you, pup?" she heard him talk and she frowned slightly, folding her arms over her chest as a way to hold back the fear about what had just happened she shifted her eyes to glare up at him slightly, she detested 'pup' . . with an absolute resolve. "it's not pup . . it's belle" she said as she sat against the tree, her hands running through her hair as she watched the space where he'd vanished and she bit her lip. "but thanks" she said as she looked at the ground. she couldn't believe that it had happened she hadn't done a thing to him, she had no idea why he'd chased her, the only thing that ran through her mind was that he'd wanted some fun. she couldn't help the shudder that ran through her at that thought, the tears welling up n her eyes and she sniffed ever so slightly, her fingers roughly wiping at her eyes and she shook her head, moving to stand up.
"be more careful. next time all 'white-knights' might be back at the castle and you'll be, well, screwed." frowning she looked at him, he was taller, so she still had to look up and she raised an eyebrow slightly, her eyes narrowing just a bit. "well then it's a good thing 'dial a vamp's' 24 hour, anywhere service" she said with a roll of her eyes, he eyes glancing back up at him, any traces of tears gone now. "it's not like i asked for your help anyway" she said, her shaking hands sliding into her pockets, she wouldn't admit it, but the whole thing freaked her out. she wasn't accustomed to having to fight off men, and it scared the hell out of her that she hadn't been able too.
"you're hurt." she'd seen him turn away, so when he spoke again she couldn't help but glance back at him. she swallowed slightly and made to touch her cheek, it wasn't hurting as much as it had been, the shock must have been hiding it. she pulled her hand away and saw it was smeared with blood and she made to press her sleeve to it. "it's n-nothing" she said, the tears threatening to well up again. she was still getting used to the heightened emotions, the strength of them and she looked away from him, not sure if he was friend or foe at the moment. "i thought y-you were leaving" she said leaning against the tree and holding her sleeve to her cheek.

is anybody out there ? "it's not pup . . it's belle" it was funny, really, what some people decided to focus on. alaric would logically think that the fact she'd just been assaulted by a man might be a bit more important to her than a little nickname. "hey, it's better than 'mutt',"
the vampire pointed out with a raised eyebrow. were she older, and male, that would likely be the term he had gone for, but she was pretty much just a child, and it wasn't polite to call women 'mutts'. it tended to offend them. "alaric," he offered as way of introduction. short and sweet. she didn't seem like the supreme quidditch fan type who would recognize him by only his first name. "but thanks" the only recognition her words got were a quick nod. there was little more that the vampire was comfortable doing- he wasn't that used to human (or, er, nonhuman) interaction, and that meant receiving thanks or other compliments. "well then it's a good thing 'dial a vamp's' 24 hour, anywhere service" oh, so she did recognize his breed. not all werewolves did. the dogs, especially the young ones, didn't seem to have taken advantage of their senses to explore other races and how to pick up on their scents. perhaps it was becoming less and less unusual for races to be understood by scents, though. after all, there were certainly more open vampires and werewolves around than when alaric had been in school. that wasn't exactly a good thing for him... he didn't like people to know what he was. only his teammates did... but this didn't matter. it wasn't like he'd ever be seeing this girl again. "it's not like i asked for your help anyway" the vampire's eyes widened slightly. she wanted to be ungrateful, eh? he wasn't sure why that should surprise him so much... teenagers these days rarely cared about being polite. "sorry, i'll try to remember to let you get raped next time," he responded coldly, eyes narrowed slightly. "it's n-nothing" it was more than 'nothing', though not life threatening by any stretch of the imagination. it was still blood, and thus why it had attracted the beater's attention. he was long past the stage where the slightest scent of blood could drive him into a feeding frenzy. it was a very sharp scent to him, though, identifiable out of all other scents in the world. "i thought y-you were leaving" it was a good point... he'd thought so, too, but when he saw the look in her eyes, the mistiness in her eye, he paused. "c'mon," he sighed slightly, offering her his hand to help her to her feet. "let's get you cleaned up, we don't want that to get infected or anything." he was sure that if they went to the three broomsticks they'd have a kit or something to help clean up her wound. that was, if she agreed to go with him.[/blockquote] [/div] Bitter.Sweet.Sundown. @caution

"sorry, i'll try to remember to let you get raped next time," she shook her head, her eyes rolling of their own accord and she looked at him "well i'm surprised you even stopped to help a 'pup' . . don't people usually throw them in bags and let them drown?" she said back. she couldn't give a damn if this guy thought he deserved thanks or not. if she was thinking clear she'd probably admit that he did too, and she made a mental not to thank him again before the night was out, but for now she was content pretending not to car. the less he knew about her the better, after all, she had no idea who he was, he could even be with this guy for all she knew, she'd heard of a double ploy before, people acting as villains, their friends coming and acting like hero's for the sake of action, no she'd keep her guard up for now, something her father had always taught her to do, around men anyway.
"c'mon," she sniffed softly and turned her head away from him for second, not really wanting a stranger to see her cry, not that she was really crying, bu still, it was embarrassing enough that it was happening, she wiped her eyes roughly and stared in shock at the hand he offered her. she glanced up at his face to see if he was genuine, he didn't look like he was going to grab her and sink his teeth into her neck, though, a sudden thought flashed her mind, she wouldn't mind if he was the one doing the biting. she couldn't help the blood that ran to her heat so fast when she made to touch his hand, heat seemed to radiate from every part of her body an she faltered slightly, her eyes avoiding his as she stood and slowly drew her hand back from his.
"let's get you cleaned up, we don't want that to get infected or anything." she glanced at him and she nodded. it would be rather nice to get this blood off her face, it wasn't comfortable having dried blood pull at her sink, it was sinking into her jacket, but that could be washed or replaced. she wasn't all that fussy about her clothes, not really. she bit her lip and looked at him, her eyes tracing the features o his face and she couldn't help but notice she was handsome, no handsome wasn't even the word for him. she wondered what someone who looked like that would want with someone who looked like her, but still, she accepted his offer of the first aid kit and she moved to shove her hands in her pockets, tucking some hair behind her ear she spoke to him. what re you doing in these parts at this very moment . . i think it's only fair . . you know why i'm here" she said, a smile on her voice and a light joke dancing in her eye, but her voice was serious.

is anybody out there ? "well i'm surprised you even stopped to help a 'pup' . . don't people usually throw them in bags and let them drown?" the vampire rolled his eyes, making no attempt to hide it. really? "that's taking the metaphor a bit too far 'belle'. don't get carried away." it was, really. she was a full grown woman, or well, not really... she was young, he would guess fifth or sixth year, maybe seventh, in schooling. likely not full grown, though she was clearly not a child in appearance. puppies were scrawny little runts, barely bigger than alaric's first (in fact, perhaps not even that large). there was a big difference between chucking a puppy in the water and letting a young woman be brutally attacked. alaric had not lost all of his humanity when he was turned... he never had. thing had just changed for him through the way others reacted to him. he would never be completely heartless.
he shoved his hand into his pocket the moment the werewolf's touch left it, resisting the instinctive urge to cringe from the contact. why the hell did vampires and werewolves both exist? the beasts were such disgusting creatures... even on days not around the full moon they held this stench around them that was nearly unbearable. what was the point of having a creature who was only truly powerful twelve nights a year? it was bloody well ridiculous.
"what re you doing in these parts at this very moment . . i think it's only fair . . you know why i'm here" the quidditch player's posture was stiff as he began moving away, one hand still tucked in his pocket. he barely glanced back to make sure she was following, it was only the fresh scent of her blood nearby that told him she wasn't being left way far back in the dust. she seemed relaxed, good for her. he didn't share the happy go lucky attitude, but she was a woman... who could really understand how fast their moods changed? "actually, i don't," he reminded her, voice flat and void of any return joking attitude. "i saw you being chased. i don't know why you were in hogsmeade, alone, or why the logical idea was to run to an abandoned shack and not back to your school." the vampire shrugged once more, moving towards the three broomsticks where it should be fairly easy to get a first aid kit. "ergo i don't know much more about you than you're going to know about me."

"i saw you being chased. i don't know why you were in hogsmeade, alone, or why the logical idea was to run to an abandoned shack and not back to your school." she frowned and rolled her eyes. yeah that had been her point. and to be honest she didn't even know why she'd made the choice. she bit her lip and ran her hand through her light brunette locks and felt them tumble back down over her shoulders as she did. "yeah . . you still know i was being chased . . being chased is the reason i'm out here . . ergo . . you know why i'm here" she said as she fell into step with him. her head wasn't bleeding as bad as it had been. she bit her lip and rubbed her arms lightly, shivering slightly and looked back over her shoulder, having sworn she'd heard something, but not sure if she was thinking things, or if there was someone following them.
out of instinct she shifted close to alaric. she had a need to be with other people. she didn't know if it was the wolf in her, the need to be in a pack, or just something she had been born with, but in times of uncertainty or trouble, she always felt better when she was around other people. "you play quidditch . . don't you?" she asked as she looked at him. she'd seen his face before, somewhere, in a magazine or something, one of the boys in her dorm had shown it too her. she scratched the back of her neck and glanced behind them again. she stopped walking, took a deep breathe and smelled something. she shook her head. "i smell him again" she said, a hint of urgency in her voice, she looked around, seeing as far as she could into the darkness, but if he was a wolf, he' know how to hide.
suddenly she saw a flash, and even she wasn't quick enough to avoid it. she felt pain sear through her shoulder and she couldn't help the scream of pain that erupted from her mouth. as she was flung backward, her feet leaving the ground as she was flung back into a tree, the force of the spell enough to knock her back it hurt, it more than hurt, she paled from the instant blood loss, the shock of being hit hard. everything swum as she suddenly saw the man come into her view, the edges of her vision blurred as a whimper escaped her lip, her hand gripping her shoulder as blood pumped out of it and before she could get a word out, it was spinning, the world, the tree's, everything. "a-alaric" she managed to whimper out weakly, a sudden panic rising up as she realised that he might not save her this time, she needed it, she needed him, and it was a thought her mind couldnt push away right now. suddenly everything went black, her world went black as she slumped to the dirt, her eyes closed, her face white.

is anybody out there ? "yeah . . you still know i was being chased . . being chased is the reason i'm out here . . ergo . . you know why i'm here" teenagers these days were so annoying sometimes! her logic was completely off. anyone could see someone walking somewhere and claim they knew why they were somewhere, but there was always a deeper meaning than the path someone was taking. her logic was just plain ridiculous, hardly worth any sort of response... but with a quick glance to the side where the girl was walking, alaric couldn't help but make a statement, though likely not one that the girl would want. "well, i'm out here because my feet led me here. basically the same reasoning, isn't it?"
alaric was not used to being a sociable person. forty years of avoiding contact with most people, avoiding relationships because he would have to leave everyone behind soon enough, had sent his social skills plummeting to zero. the girl didn't mean any harm, he knew that, but even having a simple conversation with her was difficult. it would be so much easier to just direct her down the path to hogwarts and be on his way... after all, they had a good hospital wing and medical unit. he had spent some time there himself, only a few months, some two decades ago or so, just after the second wizarding war while he assisted in the cleanup and bloody aftermath. "you play quidditch . . don't you?" she pulled him out of his memories with her question which he had to admit surprised him. the delicate girl didn't exactly seem the type to pay attention to the happenings in the wizarding world's favourite sport, let alone be able to recognize some of its players. "i do." he state simply, but about to volunteer information. like said, he was a poor conversationalist. anyone out of practice would be. "i smell him again" the quidditch player's steps stopped, eyes narrowing at the woods surrounding them as he tried to figure out if she was just paranoid, or telling the truth. sure enough there was a fresh scent on the breeze, not one fading indicating the man was running off. "how stupid can he ge-" the sound of the spell whipping through the air cut the vampire off, the flash of light momentarily blinding him but not disguising the sound of the girl's body hitting something... hard. alaric was pretty sensitive to light, and the flash so near him when he wasn't expecting it had a longer effect on him than it might have otherwise. when his eyes finally adjusted again, though it probably only took a second or two (and seemed like an eternity) the bastard of a wolf was near the girl again. "you just don't know when to give up, do you, you son of a bitch?" his arm instantly outstretched, alaric swung the man into a tree opposite the student, eyes narrowed. the man must have hit his head pretty hard... he slumped to the ground, effectively unconscious. alaric would have gone after him again, but the sticky scent of blood hung in the air, drawing him back to belle. a quick look at the girl told him that things were not good, but in forty years of extra life the vampire had picked up a few tricks, most notably for this situation tricks acquired during a short time at st. mungo's. bending over the girl alaric whipped out his wand, unable to do this magic without one, and muttered incantations under his breath. it was annoying, how much he had to concentrate, how often the spells fizzled out... but some control over magic at this time was better than none. after a few minutes he felt she was stable enough to move, and so with a last glance at the still unconscious man alaric gathered the girl up in his arms, setting off to the three broomsticks. the girl at the bar knew him well, and gave him a key to one of the rooms without really glancing at the girl he held. a few moments later they were in the room, with an adjoining bathroom, small sitting area, and a king sized bed. the vampire lay the werewolf on the bed, murmuring some more spells in this more stable environment to try and help her without the aid of potions, at least until she woke and he could send her off to the school again. once done all that he could do, alaric stepped back from the girl, watching her still form on the bed for a moment. she'd be fine... but she should still get proper treatment. a guy who was a nurse twenty some years ago wasn't exactly a good substitute for the real medcal aide she could get at hogwarts, but he couldn't send her there when she was unconscious. about fifteen minutes had passed since the attack, and she wasn't showing any signs of waking soon, while the vampire found his thoughts constantly flickering to her attacker. finally, after five more minutes, he left. twenty minutes passed before he returned, expression unchanged, though decidedly more tired and drained. so much for days off being easy... alaric settled himself in a chair in the corner of the room, eyes resting on the motionless girl as he waited for her to awake. normally his gaze was blue, but as he grew more drained, thirstier, the charms he used to hide his real eye color (a dead giveaway of his species), faded until he was left with the blood red they were now. the blood staining the girl's clothing, though her wound was healed, was not exactly helping him at the moment... but he could wait until he shoved her back off to hogwarts before he found himself a snack.[/blockquote] [/div] Bitter.Sweet.Sundown. @caution
