It was good to be alive. Sometimes, it just… was. Yes, the thought was a little bit random, but on days like today Nick allowed himself to just relax and enjoy everything. There were perfectly clear skies overhead, not a cloud in sight, and the sun was shining brightly down on everything. A fresh sheet of snow had fallen on the earth the day before, blanketing everything in white, and Nick thought that the cool crisp temperature in the air only served to make everything that much more fresh. All snow but that on the path to Hogsmeade, trampled by students passing through before Nick, had barely a blemish into it, except for here or there where you could tell one student had been pushed in by some of his pals, or there were hand prints in the white indicating that the snow there had been used to make a rather deadly snowball.
Usually Nick would be traveling this path with friends, or Regina, but his girlfriend had landed herself detention with Swanepoele for not doing her work (he was sooo looking forward to the rants on that later) and his friends were in a similar scenario, confined to the school for the weekend after sneaking out to the forbidden forest in the middle of the night. So today Nick walked alone, which was okay with him. He loved his friends and his girlfriend, but sometimes a guy just needed space to do as he wanted. Besides, he was sure he would be able to find someone to spend this trip with.
There were lots of students, everywhere, hurrying up and down the street to Hogsmeade, disappearing into the shops in the distance that grew nearer and nearer with each step. The air was filled with the laughter of teenagers joking around, calling to each other, pointing out a shop’s latest merchandise and planning their Christmas gifts a month early. Unlike many of the students there, Nick didn’t really have a set place he wanted to go to. He just wanted to get away from Hogwarts for a while and relax somewhere new. Maybe he’d head down to the shrieking shack, or spend some time at The Three Broomsticks or The Hog’s Head…
Actually, no. Nick stopped in front of a door that led into a very clearly crowded building. Honeyduke’s always was such. Students were teenagers, and teenagers had insatiable sweet tooths, after all. It had been a while since Nick had been in this store. For the last few Hogsmeade visits he’d usually been with Regina, which had meant that their time had most often been spent at Madame Puddifoots. Maybe the sweet shop had gotten some new products on its shelves since his last visit (not like the old ones would ever lose their appeal, though).
Without really looking he pulled the door open out onto the street and stepped inside, instantly stumbling backwards as he collided with someone near the door at no slow speed. Nick yelped, clutching the door to hold on to his balance. “Sorry!”
(Most overused thread starter ever? Yep!)

No, it was not good to be alive! Just kidding, Claire was having a freaking blast. That was sarcasm, by the way. She was alright, Claire wasn't jumping up and down at the thought of going to Hogsmeade, but she enjoyed it nonetheless. After all, her parents' friendship had started in this small village some twenty-two years prior, so Claire had been a Hogsmeade Baby. Wait, she wasn't made in Hogsmeade, not twenty-two years ago. Actually, she was probably made in the Italian countryside while her parents honeymooned there, but that's irrelevant and most likely not true. It all depends on where Lawrence and Brielle do end up getting married, but like I said, irrelevant. What that was supposed to mean, is that Claire had grown up around Hogsmeade, whenever her parents brought her here she felt like home.
The thing that got Claire excited this fine day was all of the snow. The coldness made her all warm and happy, being a winter baby did that to people. So she got her scarf, jacket, and ran out the front entrance of Hogwarts, right along with her friends. The girls were all huddled together as they walked around Hogsmeade, after a while, the allure of one store called to them. Most of them fought to get through the door, it was so crowded that Claire was left at the end of the pack, struggling to get in. When she finally stepped inside, she was stuck. There was just no possible way for her to move. She playfully pushed her friends, urging them to make room for her. She heard the ringing bell, announcing a new costumer and the cold air hit her back, making shivers rise all over her body. She was about turn around, when she felt someone bump into her. Claire was pushed forward by the impact, making her bounce back, causing her to fall right into whoever had ran into her.
Claire groaned, showing obvious discomfort, but at least she wasn't on the floor. For some reason, she and the other person had not completely fallen down. She looked back, noticing a hand gripping on the the door and Claire's eyes traveled up to the person's face. Her eyes connected with something very familiar; Nicholas Talbot's eyes. She quickly jumped away from him. "Sorry." That was the first word she had said to him in months.

it took nick a moment, or maybe it was more like a millisecond, to recognize the girl he’s nearly mauled over. later he’d proably be ashamed that he didn’t instantly realize who his old friend was, but wasn’t it always the case that you had trouble putting a name to a person for at least a few moments if you weren’t expecting to see them there? and nick certainly hadn’t been expecting to see claire gable in honeyduke’s. she’d been scarce lately. well, it was generally claire’s way to be scarce, but he hadn’t even said so much as a ‘hey’ to her in the hallways all year… the closest he’d come to her was seeing her name called at the end of september while he cheered along almost as loudly as most of her ravenclaw classmates, just for old time’s sake. nah, they hadn’t spoken much in a long time… he supposed that was the way for most friendships. people changed as they aged, and changes broke friendships apart… still kinda sucked, though.
“sorry.” nick found himself shaking his head slightly, a slight grin on his face. he couldn’t help it, he was around a friend (however distant or old a friend) and he found himself smiling. why should she be apologizing? he was the fool who’d basically flung the door open to get inside and hadn’t cared to look at who might be around the doorway. honeyduke’s was always a rather busy shop, so it was basic common sense that it might be crowded enough to have someone around the door. apparently common sense just evaded the gryffindor today… thank god regina hadn’t been around to see his little mishap, he knew for a fact that his girlfriend would never let him live it down however minor an incident it might seem to be.
“you’re all right, aren’t you, miss champion?” he asked, the same grin still tugging at his lips. as he stepped back out of the building, trying to clear the door so that others could leave if they wished. it was pretty clear that he wasn’t going to easily fit into the small shop, and to be honest it likely wasn’t worth the effort at the moment, anyways. “i wouldn’t want an entire house after me for injuring one of their leaders.” she looked all right, having managed to avoid falling to the floor and possibly causing further injury to herself, but nick felt the question was just customary to ask after whacking into someone else. simple etiquette. he let the playful tone and words hang in the air for a moment before instinctively moving forward into pull her into a warm hug. “long time no see, claire-bear.”
(ooc: i have suddenly decided nick has an old nickname for her. ^^)
