THE SECOND TASK (CHAMPIONS)

She felt a hand on her shoulder and visibly flinched. Her eyes squeezed even tighter, her fingers curled up in the cool dirt and what little snow had made it to the floor. Which left her ears open. She could hear everything, including his voice. What if the boggart had turned into Jaycen and was trying to get her to open her eyes just so she could watch Jaycen die in front of her. Wait why would the boggart turn into Jaycen, he wasnt part of her family, he wasnt exactly a friend either...actually she had no idea whether they were or not, she felt like they were in a sort of purgatory state with the relationship. Friends or not friends, it was a tough one; perhaps after this task it would cement their friendship a little more.

She heard him cast the spell but refused to see if it was successful. What would everyone think of how she had acted. That she was just a scared little girl, that she couldnt be the strong student leader the school needed, that all she needed was a boggart in front of her and she'd fall to pieces. Taking a peek through her tear filled eyes, she noticed the boggart was going and Jaycen asking her if she was alright. Was she alright though? Apart from embarrassment and shock, she seemed to be.
"I'm...I'm fine," she spoke finding her voice as she stood; wiping away what tears remained on her face. Brushing herself off from the dirt and snow before looking up at him, her face flushed with embarassment.
"Ok," she replied as she moved towards him and the way they were originally heading.

It didn't work and she figured that it wouldn't there wasn't much of any confidence in her spell and well with her wand if there was no confidence the spell would not work in any form or fashion. She took a deep breath. She had to control the fear. Control was everything to her, it was what made her the type of werewolf she was today. One little simple fear wasn't going to ruin that for her. Alright to her it really wasn't a simple little fear, it was more than that. It was everything she dreaded into one form, one being and the scary thing was, that being really did exist. The creature in front of her was very much real, just not one anyone saw.

One more time, she had to try this one more time before she really started to loose it. She held onto her wand firmly and evened her breath. Her heart racing at this point wasn't going to help her in any way. No she needed to calm down and really get a hold of reality. The bogart showed fear and she had faced her fears before, this was no different. So what if this fear was a near reality, the creature in front of her was a simple magical creature that could be easily dealt with, using one simple spell. One spell. Fears took more than a single spell to deal with, meaning this wasn't a fear it was a simple little magical creature. At least that is what Alaya had to tell herself in order to calm down somewhat.

She closed her eyes and focused on the spell, and only the spell. Think of something to change the creature into. A cloud of smoke seemed fitting. She had the image in her mind and her wand ready. "Rriddikulus" She said, this time with more force and emphasis. Her voice wasn't wavering like it was before. And if this didn't work she wasn't sure what would. She hoped that her new efforts were enough to keep moving.

She stared a bit blankly as the sphinx spoke, admittedly a bit distracted in trying to figure out how well she could climb the tree near her. Yori couldn't remember whether or not lions could climb trees, but she figured she would have a better chance that way than trying to outrun it. She had heard of a sphinx's intelligence, but also of the volatile nature they tend to possess. The hufflepuff wondered if the professors would honestly let them be slaughtered out here. She heard people did die in these tournaments. Of course, she figured at least one of them could figure it out, but then she noticed Dunstable looking at her, asking if she knew the answer.

Yori stayed quiet for a few moments, considering the riddle carefully. Usually, she was honestly pretty terrible with them, and if not for the occasional rainy day fun, the hufflepuff found her easily frustrated by the abstract thinking involved in it. She figured it couldn't have been something living if it didn't eat, but possessed a mouth, considering that would be starving itself. The idea of a “mouth” brought up the far reaches of a cave, but a cave couldn't run, nor did it “murmur” necessarily. There were echoes, but echoes weren't quiet enough to be a murmur. There was something else though, and it did fit the criteria, she thought.

”A river?” the hufflepuff answered, a bit uncertainly.

She was relieved when the sphinx began to move, uttering, ”That is correct. You may pass.” They weren't going to be slaughtered-- for now, anyway.

The hufflepuff waited for the magical creature to disappear back into the depths of the forest before heading toward the path. She was honestly surprised that turned out well, but she certainly wasn't going to jinx them by mentioning it, nor complain about it. It was easy to simply continue, and maybe fumble through the process later, once they weren't in danger.

Scorpius was growing impatient, the other teams could have already gotten to their second loved one whilst they were still on their first. Taking a glance at Al and Theia he figured they'd catch up to him soo enough. Pointing the broom towards what looked to be a small animal path, he took off, leaving his best friends behind.

He'd make sure the path was clear ahead, give his friends a few moment more to catch up. He figured that if they didnt move soon, he's simply turn back around and snatch up Albus, seperate them until the task was over. He heard a noise, almost like laughter and realised that this couldnt be good. Pausing in his flight, he looked around, flashes of blue were seen among the trees before then emerged, laughing and throwing things at him. Damn pixies, he thought as he ducked as a large rock sailed over his head. He needed to get a good shot at them. Taking a deep breath, he casted his grey eyes onto the pesky creatures. One swooped down, almost snatching his wand from him. He backhanded it, watching as it sailed through the air to hit the trunk of a tree. It would have been more comical if it had slid down it, but no as soon as it hit the tree it seemed to have recovered instantly. One spell, it was all he needed to take care of this lot.
"Imobulus," he spoke strongly as he pointed his wand in their direction, hoping that this lot of pixies werent smart enough to evade the spell.

bloody boggarts... of all the creatures they could have encountered, why did it have to be a boggart? and if ravenclaw did run into one, couldn't it have been before jaycen found raychel? hell, he even would have faced it when he was completely alone. somehow his fear felt so much foolish when raychel might have seen it... he couldn't tell if she had actually noticed, though. obviously the head girl was more than a little bit distracted with her own issues, and her fear, which was a perfectly reasonable one in jaycen's opinion, so he kept quiet and led her through the trees, more determined than every to get out of this forest as soon as possible.

he stayed silent as they moved, not much in the mood for conversation after their little boggart interaction, and he doubted she was, either. a small rustle in the woods up ahead made him pause, though, and the head boy instinctively moved his arm behind him, as a silent warning for her to stop behind him. whatever it was, it was in front of them, and he couldn't look after raychel with his wand if she wasn't being guarded behind him. then the creature emerged, and jaycen almost breathed a sigh of relief. at least it wasn't another boggart again... oh, the great beast of a sphinx was intimidating of course, but they were ravenclaws! they had to answer riddles to access their own commons room, for pete's sake. this should be fairly easy for them, right?

a moment of silence passed, the sphinx simply looking at them, unblinking, before she spoke: "Name an eight letter word that has kst in the middle, in the beginning, and at the end." one that jaycen hadn't heard before... his brow furrowed as he tried to think of the answer, which seemed fairly impossible. it was impossible, actually, if you viewed the riddle the way he'd been viewing it. the word could only be eight letters, 'kst' in the beginning, middle, and end, would already bring the total up to nine. the head boy turned to raychel, about to ask her for the response, when the answer hit him. 'kst' in the middle, 'in' the beginning, 'and' at the end. 'in''kst''and'. he hoped he was right... "inkstand."

(sorry for not having him ask raychel. xD i know you've got scorp posts to do and all that so i didn't want to tie you up with a conversation between raycen about the riddle. < 3)
