Yori knew that things were taken care of when she heard Dunstable, letting a sigh of relief out as the plimpy sank to the lake. She briefly wondered for a moment if they hadn't condemned the plimpy to quite a terrible fate, removing the major power in its swimming. As much as the hufflepuff felt a sense of sympathy for the little creature, she knew that this wasn't quite a good time to be doing this. She turned away from the sinking plimpy, passing a smile over to Dunstable. ”Think we'll keep this luck?” the Japanese girl asked as she resumed her swimming. She certainly hoped so. Aquatic combat wasn't something she was entirely familiar with.
However, she was certainly thankful for the relative ease so far. Even in the relative darkness of the lake, she could see maybe the ravenclaw duo still struggling with something. Yori tried not to think about it too much. She wasn't sure her fellow champion would appreciate her going into a panic attack in the middle of the lake. All the hufflepuff could do at the moment was pray that they wouldn't run into something similar. Briefly, she remembered Josceline's warning not long after becoming champion. She'd like to think the risk wasn't as bad with them partnered, but she would heed the older girl's words either way. Usually didn't hurt to be too careful.

A stream of bubbles came from the head boy's mouth, and he was rather thankful that with gillyweed and not the bubble-head charm the swear that came out of his mouth could not be heard. he had no way of knowing for certain, but he wouldn't but it past the teachers to install some sort of listening device in the water that would project all of the champion's spells (if they had the bubble head charm) to the listening audience sitting in the stands around the area. sure, all teenagers swore when stressed, but he still felt that it wouldn't look so good if the head boy of the school allowed himself to be such a 'great' rolemodel for the younger students.
One of the squid's many limbs was still wrapped around his leg, just as tight as ever, as though the spell he'd shot off earlier had had absolutely no effect on the monstrous creature. Maybe that was the wrong spell to use? It affected the target's eyes, which made it an obvious spell to use when faced with that of the giant squid, but it had nothing to do with water... maybe that made it uneffective underwater? Jayce really regretted the fact at the moment that he'd never thought to focus on learning a special ability through his years of schooling... nonverbal spells would have been beyond useful right now.
Gritting his teeth, and getting very frustrated, he aimed his wand towards the squid's eye again. "Aguamenti!" While not the typical attack spell, he hoped that it would come out with enough force to enough 'damage' to the squid that it would let go so that Jayce and Claire could get back to the task. Time was ticking away...

James decided to try the same thing again since he knew that it was futile to attempt getting away just yet, but luckily he could breathe as well as say the spell well enough while under-water. Hah, Ravenclaw's thought they were smart with their gilliweed, that will teach them, but you'd think they'd be able to talk under-water due to the fact they can have no trouble at all breathing the water through their strange lungs. James just focused on the squid now, almost looking over at Alaya to see if she was alright, but he had to fight off the squid that had decided to take him further down into the lake. Kicking and thrashing at the same time, one leg hit the tentacle. That just made it jerk harder against him, but this creature would surely have to let up sooner or later.
James decided it'd be best to shoot the charm now while he had a chance, and aimed his wand at the giant squid again. Octopus, squid, James really didn't care what it was as long as it would let go soon, praying to some divine power that they'd get out of this predicament soon. Even using his fingers to cross behind his back while closing his eyes to conjure the spell once more. Struggling again as he felt the squid's pull disrupt his aim. Luckily for him, he could keep this spell up for an indefinite amount of time, yet his body was straining due to the fatigue it faced trying to get away from the squid.
What? James Potter never gives up no matter how frantic he tries, and he was determined to ignore his aching muscles the rest of the way through this while then yelling out, "Confundus!" again.
James is using confundus again at the squid.

Good he thought, she had gotten the message to keep still and a moment later the plimpy was drifting down into the dark depths of the lake and Theia was free. Well that was easy enough, he thought as he looked around catching sight of Hufflepuff defeating their plimpy as well. So where were Ravenclaw and Gryffindor he wondered as he looked over his shoulder. Oh they were still dealing with the giant squid. Good he thought as he turned his attention back to Theia, catching the nod.
He nodded right back, acknowledging her before seeing her swim ahead. He followed suit, making sure to keep a sharp look out for anything else that was going to try and attack them. He really hoped the quid would be content with playing with its 4 current victims and not come after him and Theia. Well perhaps a couple of Hufflepuff play toys could keep the squid company. How good would it be for Hufflepuff to get tangled up with the squid as well, Theia and himself could easily surge ahead and win, if only his wishes came true. One already had and that was for James to meet with the squid, could he be lucky a second time, who knew, only time would tell.
Stroke after stroke, he wondered how much longer they had to swim, he wanted out of the water, out of the soaking wet clothing that was slowing him down and he wanted to get on a broom and be up in the air. Soon, he thought, all they had to do was finish crossing the lake and run through the forest before getting to the brooms.

She tried the charm again hoping that this time they would be in better luck than before. She really hated the feeling of being trapped but what else could she do. The Squid was a nice creature and she wouldn't want to do anything to hurt it but there was also the tournament to think about. They had to get free soon and get out of the lake. At least in the forest she felt like they would have some better luck than now. Their first creature and it had to be the Squid.
Alaya took a deep breath, thankful for the bubble charm. She knew it had a limited amount of time to it but she was sure that they would make it out before that time elapsed. She wondered how the other teams were faring. She knew that the Squid also had hold of the ravenclaws but that left slytherin and hufflepuff ahead of them. At times like this made her glad of being a werewolf. She wasn't tiered, not yet even though she was struggling to get out of the Squid's grip. She saw her chance and casted the Confundus charm one more time. This time aiming for it's head hoping that it would let go.
She decided to stop fighting against the Squids grip since it really was useless to try and get away that way. The squid was much stronger. She wondered how the professors got the Squid to partake in the event. She relaxed as best as she could in the situation. Right now the best thing to do was see if the spell would work.

Dunstable grinned as he watched the plimpy make it’s unfortunate fate of slowly falling down to the bottom of the lake. He felt a bit bad for it, but it was a rather annoying creature. He had learned about Plimpies of course in his Care of Magical Creatures class and how annoying they could be. At least they were rather harmless and easy to get rid of. “Think we’ll keep this luck?” Dunstable looked up at Yori, he had almost forgotten that they were pretty much in the middle of a race, how silly of him. “That would be nice, but I wouldn’t count on it,
” he frowned lightly not wanting to count his chickens before they hatched as he knew if he did they would most likely end up running into the Squid and be stuck there for a while. Glancing off into the distance he tried to peer further into the lake while waving his lighted wand before him, but even with his wand light he couldn’t see that far so he had no idea how the other champions were doing. But why should he worry? He just needed to make sure to keep Yori in sight and work with her to get further along the way. “ Shall we swim on?” he asked Yori lightly once he was back to looking at her before he turned to start swimming onwards in the direction they needed to go in hopes that soon they’ll be able to get to the shore. At least land creatures would be easier to attack and get them out of their way as it was easier to run than it was to swim, especially if they happened to come across the giant Squid. Claire thought she would soon be released from the Squid's grip, but it never came, her leg was still held by it and she felt utterly helpless. She had to think of something fast. Her mind drifted off for a second, wondering if anyone else had managed to get free. But Claire had no time to think about the other Champions, she needed to get free and bring Jaycen right along with her. However, with her luck, Jaycen was probably going to be the one to save the day.
It was sad to think that the two Ravenclaws couldn't figure out a way to get free. They were RAVENCLAWS, for Merlin's sake! They could do this, they just had to, she was sure they would figure something out. That's when Claire looked down at the wand in her hand. It hit her, she had simply waved it in the water, saying the first thing that came to her mind. Claire knew better than anyone that things didn't work like that in the magical world. She knew that there was a different way to flick the wand for every different spell.
Just as she was about to cast another spell when the Squid pulled her closer. She came face to face with it and her eyes opened wide in horror. She instantly moved her right hand, elegantly moving it in a specific way she had been thought and was ready to cast her next spell. "Relashio!"

Jaycen literally held his breath, which was a rather interesting sensation when you had gills, waiting for the monstrous creature's reaction to his spell, and that of Claires that he was sure she would have called out. After all, if Claire wasn't a fan of water (there was no way she could have been acting the look in her eyes or her tone of voice when she'd told Jayce that), she'd want to get away from the tentacles of the squid as fast as possible. He guessed that being dragged to her death in the depths (though he was pretty sure the staff would intervene if their situation became so terrible before either of them were killed) was not on her 'to do' list and she'd be as desperate to get away as he was to win this damned task.
And then... it worked. The creature reared back as though he'd been burned, its head jerking backwards and the eye fading away into the darkness of the water. At the same moment Jayce felt his foot jerk free of the loosening rope-like tentacle firmly wrapped around his leg. It still clung to his angle, but loosely, and with a vicious kick Jayce was free and soaring closer to the surface, where he hovered about ten feet below the surface.
Looking around, the squid was nowhere to be seen. With Jayce's decreased depth and the Squid fading down into the water, it was entirely camouflaged in the dark depths. Good riddance. Jayce searched for the familiar shape of his partner in the water, spinning around. He didn't know where the squid had taken her, but he wasn't about to abandon her if she hadn't escaped from it yet... as soon as he found her they'd be off swimming through the water again, and Jayce knew he'd be trying to travel twice as fast to make up for that time that the Squid had lost them.

James didn't like the fact that this octopus-squid thing was clinging to his leg, and now he had to teach it a lesson. Although the cunfundo charm -did- work on it and now he was well on his way to seeing another leg wrap around it's first, then stab itself in the face with it's own tentacle. Luckily that was enough of a distraction for it to loosen it's grip on James's leg and he was speeding forward with no consideration for his team-mate. Deciding to stop just a little to see if Alaya made it, then he'd swim like all hell away from the damned thing as he felt the bubble head charm actually working for him.
James merely glanced over once to see if Ravenclaw had made it free too, but he had no time to wonder if the others were okay. This was a life or death situation and you had to be prepared no matter what the circumstances were. Finally mustering up enough courage to look back at the squid again he was tempted to shoot another spell at it before moving onward. Once he was certain that both of the confundus's had hit the squid, he soon started to swim direly in the opposite direction of it. Moving forward to the island, James needed to consider asking Alaya if she wanted to ride the broom after getting through the water and then to the forest. Although James would probably be the superior choice there.
Finally moving forward as he remained under water, and then just nodded to Alaya whenever she caught up to him to tell her to keep going no matter what they ran into. In the end James decided to wait a bit for Alaya to get free from it's grip and he knew that her bubble-head charm wouldn't run out anytime soon..which was a good thing indeed. After all, James really didn't want to have to deal with her new boyfriend either, and get ringed out for telling him the bad news.

Within seconds, Claire was released by the Squid. She felt the adrenaline rush through her body when she realized she was, indeed, still alive and not in the bottom of the lake dead. She swam away as fast as she could, watching the Squid move farther and farther from her. Her eyes searched for Jayce and she caught glimpse of someone near her. When she swam closer, she was disappointed to see that it was James Potter. He swam by her, leading his partner and Claire kept her search up. She saw a silhouette not to far away and there he was. Jaycen was free as well!
She reached out, letting her hand touch his arm and lightly tugged on it, wanting him to follow her. Claire would of course let him take the lead, like he always did, but she wanted them to just keep swimming and catch up to the Gryffindor boy. They had lost a lot of time by this point, she had no idea where the others where. Had they defeated the other creature? She sure hoped not. One thing was certain, she didn't care about them right now, Claire needed to get out of the water as soon as possible. She let go of Jaycen's arm and pointed toward the direction that James had gone. Without another second to spare, she started swimming again.

Yori had been perfectly content in swimming along in the lake. It was a bit quiet at the moment though she had heeded Dunstable's words earlier with rightful cautiousness. As skittish and gullible as the Japanese girl could be, she'd like to thing she wasn't a fool when it came to her physical safety. Self-preservation was a very important attribute, and something the hufflepuff at least attempted to keep on a daily basis. Though as Josceline pointed out to her, signing up for this tournament wasn't really along those lines. In fact, it did look a tad bit suicidal on her part. That definitely wasn't the intention at the time that she committed the act, and it was something she was going to prove people wrong with. She wanted people to know that the underdog could bite. Hard.
So wrapped up in her thoughts, she hadn't realized that the newly unoccupied squid was now focused on the hufflepuff duo as they made their way across the lake. As such, it was quite the unwelcome surprise when she felt something wrap tightly around her leg, quickly yanking her out of her momentum. Upon realization, she did the only thing she could think of at the moment: screamed. It dimly registered that it was a horrible time to be panicking, but it didn't stop the fact that she had spent the first minute or two of being captured vainly flailing her arms about and trying to rein on her breathing. Dunstable would certainly not appreciate her having a panic attack in the middle of their swimming, especially since he may not be entirely sure what was going on.
Her hands were shaking; this wasn't good. In quite a bit of a frenzy, she clumsily threw her wand up toward the squid, yelling out, ”Conjunctivitus!”

From the corner of his eye, he could see two people swimming and assumed it was the Hufflepuff team. He blinked and they were...gone. But they were they, not like he cared, he just didn’t want any other team in front of him and Theia. He took a quick glance over his shoulder, oh damn he thought seeing that James was free from the squid along with his partner and the Ravenclaws yet now Hufflepuff was in its grasp. At least it hadn’t come after them, he thought as he turned back around and kicked harder.
It felt like they were going to be out of the water before another creature attempted to hinder them, but at the same time as that thought, he felt something brush up against his throat. Thinking it was a piece of drifting seaweed, he ignored it. Pressure built and he stopped swimming forward. Reaching up he found the hands of a gindylow around his neck. Damn bloody thing, he thought as he tried prying the fingers from his neck. "Theia," he yelled out to her, although it hurt to speak, he better not have a bruise around his neck later. Thrashing around, he finally located the body and grabbed hold of it, his hand around its neck, squeezing tightly. How did it like being strangled, he thought as he held the creature up; ready for Theia to cast whatever spell she thought of at it.

Swimming in silence wasn’t exactly a bad thing, but it was definitely and odd erie feeling. Maybe it was because of how dark the lake was and how little light his wand have off in the water. It wasn’t exactly as bright as Dunstable had hoped it to be. Maybe they should’ve swan towards the top? Dunstable was actually lost in these thoughts before he was brought back to reality by Yori’s Scream.
Quickly Dunstable snapped around, wand out ready for whatever it was that was now after Yori. It was the dreaded Gaint Squid. Well it wasn’t exactly dreaded, he knew it was actually quite peaceful for a squid, but he knew that somehow the professors or the minister communicated with it to help out during this task. “Hold on Yor!
” he said as he quickly tried to think of something to do. But what? “ Conjuctavitis” he heard Yori managed to call out and watched as a spell started to head towards the Gaint Squid. He had a feeling that, that spell would make the giant squid mad. And then he thought of it, “ Titillo!” in hopes that if Sari’s spell hit the Gaint Squid that his would soon follow suit causing the Gaint Squid to get tickled, that would get rid of its anger right? He sure as hoped it did. Oh why did spells have to move so slowly in the water? He really should’ve thought of practicing casting spells under water. Perhaps he will after today just in case he were to ever need it again. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

She did not know what she would do if it hadn't worked. Alaya was really starting to loose patience with the squid at that point. She wasted not a moment to slip from the creatures tentacles and to swim away from it as fast as she could. She was really thankful for the charm now. Alaya was able to take a couple of deep breaths to calm down. She hoped that if they ran into anything next it would be easier to deal with. It didn't take her too long to catch up with James. She took a quick look around to see that ravenclaw had also gotten out. She did not see Slytherin yet and was not about to waste any more time.
She nodded to James before starting to swim again. She really wanted to get out of the water. She had gotten used to the cold but really this was not her type of environment and it through her off. Her senses were impaired and she knew it was very easy to get confused. She would fell so much better the moment they made it out of the dark waters and onto land where the forest waited. The second part of the task was the best one for her. She figured that James would do better with the flying. He wasn't a seeker for nothing. Alaya could fly but she was more so on strength than speed.

theia could see movement in her prepherical vision but when she glanced and merely caught sight of human forms she ignored them. she didn't honestly care whether the other teams where near them or what was happening...so long as her and scorpius got out of the water first and could get onto the land quickest then she didn't give a damn about the other champions. perhaps harsh, but that was theia's mind set when she was detirmined about something - and she was damn well detirmined to win this thing. once they were on land things would be much easier...
..she thought that perhaps they might get away scot free - it appeared the giant squid had gone off to target other champions, and though theia kept a lookout as she pulled herself through the water as quickly and efficiantly as she could. she caught movement to her left and paused her strong stroke to take a glance, narrowing her eyes and frowning as she saw nothing. "Theia," she heard scorps voice to her right, the slightly strangle tone and she spun around fast, eyes widening slightly as she saw the grindlow's hands trapped fast around his neck. "hold on!" she called back as she quickly aimed her wand toward the damn creature and frowned. "stupefy!" she cried, hoping to god it got that damn thing and let scorpius go.

She had been more than a little worried when at first, the squid had tightened its hold on her body, presumably when the spell had finally reached the creature. Deep down, Yori really wasn't that surprised. She would be quite aggravated herself if someone had cursed her eyes into the serious pain the conjunctivitus curse guaranteed. If she hadn't been terrified for her life, the Japanese girl might be a little surprised that the first spell that came to mind was a curse of all things. It certainly didn't speak very strongly to her psyche. However, that wasn't what was exactly going through her mind at the moment, considering that she was struggling to breathe and still with the thought of dying in the forefront of her mind.
The hufflepuff was more than a little relieved when she heard Dunstable's spell, and actually felt the squid loosen its hold on her. They were getting things done, and she was still alive—breathing. She knew there were worse things out there, but at the moment, it just felt like if she could get past the freaking giant squid, then there was nothing that could stop them. As she began to swim once more, and she could see the light and edge of the lake, Yori couldn't help the laughter that escaped her throat. ”Dun, thank you so much. This... this is amazing!”
The excitement was something the Japanese girl could barely contain at this point. She sped up her swimming, pulling herself out of the lake in almost no time. Dunstable was right beside her the entire time. However, the truth of the matter was beginning to sink in. It wouldn't be long before she would have to fly, something that petrified her since her first year in Hogwarts. Still, she held onto that excitement, and began a good run into the forest where the brooms would be waiting. She tried her best to maintain a good rhythm, not wanting to tire herself out. She still kept her wand tight in her hand and ready.

Once they were free of the giant squid, it all seemed to be smooth sailing. Jayce was pleased with how easily he was able to shoot through the water, aided by the webbed feet and fingers, of course. The Ravenclaw team were able to move along fast, and moving fast made Jayce feel like maybe they hadn't wasted quite so much time with that damned squid... He glanced down into the depths of the lake as he swam, keeping an eye out for a flash of a tentacle or the huge eye belonging to the monster. Hopefully it was distracted with some other sorry soul (Slytherins, perhaps?) and wouldn't bug them for the rest of the task.
Almost as soon as that thought passed his mind, however, he felt something wrap onto his leg. He let out a shout, which came out as a stream of bubbles quickly rising to the surface, and jerked around to look at his leg. There, attacked by its long fingers firmly to the back of his ankle and trying to drag him down into the depths of the lake, was a Grindylow. Evil little demonic creatures... not necessarily dangerous, but annoying as hell. This one seemed intent on making Jayce a part of its underwater collection, which just didn't sit well with the head boy. After the squid he had little patience for interference in the task.
But... as he tried to twist around to get at the creature, he realized that he couldn't. It had attached itself at the perfect location on his leg so he could not get a good aim at it with his wand without risking injuring himself in the process, which would just be another damned setback Ravenclaw did not need. The Grindylow was making slow progress pulling him deeper into the water, which Jayce could only tell by the distance to the surface, so he gave his free leg a few kicks to make him rise again and looked around for Claire, hoping to catch her eye and that she'd gotten the message. His wand was practically useless if he didn't want to risk harming himself, so a spell from her would be needed to get rid of the creature.

as her spell hit the damned creature and released it's hold on scorpius theia smirked. excellent...time to go. she glanced once at scorpius, silently telling him that they needed to hurry the hell up and get out of the water already, but moving her arms and legs in sync once more to build up a rhmthm again. they had to be one of the first out if they wanted to win...of course with her plan in mind, getting out first could just increase their lead ...but still, theia knew that getting out of the lake first would just sure as hell be an advantage. the flying was were she might let the team down...but she could fly well enough and she was detirmined enough not to let the flying get to her..so she'd damn well do it. slytherin had to win this.
as she finally reached the other end of the lake, theia allowed herself a small triumphant smirk before grabbing hold on the edge and hauling herself out, quickly waving her wand toward her head and promptly removing the bubble head charm now she was back on dry land. her clothes, though she'd only warm light, well fitting clothes, were soaked and clung to her, the water made the heavy but she had no time to dry them out. she glanced to scorp, going to offer him a hand out if he wished for help and then glancing about and seeing hufflepuff had made it out too - damn hufflepuff, they'd been on their tails all the time so far...
.."i've got an idea.." theia muttered to scorpius, and finally she did the thing she'd been mulling over...she transformed into her animagus shape. where theia once stood, a great powerful dipping wet white tigress now stood upon all fours, shaking once to remove some of the water droplets from it's fur. as a tigress, she had much more speed and power...it would be great for a run through the forest. she glanced once at scorpius, letting out a small growl at the back of her throat now that she could no longer communicate...before grinding her claws into the dirt and springing forward, stretching the lean muscles and really powering onwards...
