Steve was almost a little too ecstatic about all of this as it was occurring in front of his own very eyes. What brought him to actually muster the courage to ask her out? Well that was a foolish question indeed, Steve Amethyst, you bolt-headed blithering fool. Having to ask such a question deserved such a reaction from his own mind as he mused mentally at himself how witty that had sounded when it happened. Shrugging his shoulders aside, Steve knew he'd have to weigh in his feelings for Alarica at the same time. Surely, she was his sister, but she'd understand if he stopped hanging out with her -every- day from now on. Even if he didn't have all of the time in the world to visit with her. Looking into Layla's eyes made him remember why he was standing here in the first place in the middle of the dance floor.
Shuffling his feet nervously as he finally looked into her eyes again, and he felt like he was a fool telling her all about his feelings. Wasn't pouring your heart out supposed to be easier than this? It had felt like he had torn himself between his sister and Layla. Shaking that thought out of his head, no matter how much it kept nagging at him, he kept telling himself Alarica would at least understand if she met Layla. Meeting the family? Was he CRAZY? Well one part of him was and the other always battled against his will. Usually it was the fun, sarcastic side that won out, but in this case his heart was winning. Mainly beating for one person alone, Layla.
"Well, I'm glad that awkward moment is over with, shall we continue or would you like to head somewhere more...quiet?" he asked her. A mysterious glint in his eyes as he stared into her eyes as if he was staring directly into her soul and resonating his own with hers. A tune playing in his mind and seemed to carry him towards her as he gave her a smooth solid kiss for a moment. Then when he let go, he was soon tugging on her hand like a child wishing their parent to follow them.

It took her a minute to realize that what she had said was the definition of cheesy, but it had been what she had been feeling at the moment. It was just the situation that allowed her to say those things, but if she was perfectly honest she wasn’t sure how to act in this situation. She wasn’t really used to these things, but just being here with him made it all less complicated. She wasn’t thinking about anything negative right now, she was still feeling too elated from the kiss to feel any sort of negativity. Even though she was sure at some point she would have to face both of her best friends, whom served as surrogate siblings, with the idea that she was now sort of dating Steve. She was pretty sure that Molly would be ecstatic, but Jaycen was known to give people a hard time. The only reason that Layla loved her best friend so much was because she had grown accustomed to him early on, and found most of his traits endearing. But she was pretty sure that he had given Elijah a pretty rough time when he had started to date Molly, she just hoped that the same situation didn’t pertain to her.
“Quiet sounds good, I think its basically done now anyway now that everyone took off their mask” she said, “So yes, quiet sounds ideal”
For some reason she felt something different when he looked into her eyes, like there was something else there. She wasn’t sure what it was, and she really needed to start focusing, she knew that she was rapidly approaching cloud nine, and the last thing she wanted was to lose herself over a guy. Not that she was opposed to it happening, but if she allowed herself to start going higher and higher, if things didn’t work out, well it would end up hurting her more than it would hurt him. Not that she even believed it wouldn’t work out, she had a feeling it would, but realistically you always had to be prepared for the worst possible situation. Still she knew she couldn’t really think up negative things when her heart was pounding, and the butterflies were basically attacking her stomach inside. Especially when he kissed her again, it felt so nice and she just really could lose her head over this. When he tugged her hand, she quickly leaned down to grab her fallen mask. She was sure her parents would murder her if they found out that she left it on the ground, and they wouldn’t accept that she had dropped it because she was kissing a guy as an acceptable answer. She was pretty sure her father would have some sort of fit, so it was vital for her to have it with her. She stuffed it into her bag, which she had kept with her, and let Steve lead the way to wherever it was that they were going. She wasn’t sure if they could venture outside into the grounds, or if they had to stay indoors. She would prefer indoors since she wasn’t wearing something appropriate for the cold November air.
“Where are we going?” she asked.

Steve was incredibly glad that Layla hadn't rejected him completely as if that was something he was worried about, but right now he had more insane things to focus on. Well, not insane, just the present, and as he was looking into her eyes, he realized she was willing to let him take her wherever she wanted to go. Amusing as that sounded, he had to oblige to what she requested, but he had been the one to request it. Silly guy, what did he really know about love, and he knew that sometimes dating your best friend could normally end up in tragedy. Not wanting to believe that it would be the same way as it was with the way other friends acted around each other after breaking up of course.
It was funny that he was considering going out with Layla in the first place, but he thought she was immensely cute, plus he could sort of see himself being with her for a while. Even during their time at Hogwarts, he was sure that this was just in the moment sort of thing until he met her friends. Surely they would be incredibly over protective of her, but he knew that few would see him as a threat in the long run. Boredom didn't run in his blood at least as he liked to keep her close by his side most of the times. Hanging out with her was a treat each time, and soon he was walking out of the great hall having to stop to grab his mask quickly. Obviously not wanting to forget his own mask either since he didn't want his family to worry.
Chuckling slightly, he soon kissed Layla once again before moving out of the great hall into the night-filled hall-way. Every other student around them had been in for a shock, but he managed to pull her into a secret corridor he randomly found gently pushing her up against the wall. "Layla, you are the most beautiful girl I've ever seen, and I know this may sound foolish, I want to be with you as long as you'll have me," he whispered into her ear as his hands trailed slowly along her sides sensually.

She smiled, she really didn’t remember the last time she had smiled as much as she was smiling tonight. Just the whole situation was surreal, and she knew that it hadn’t been what she had been expecting. His words from the lake the other day, they rang in her head for hours after he had said them. She had taken it as him playing around, or maybe she had just hoped that he had been joking. She had never made the connection that he could have been perfectly serious and would have been giving her hints. Of course she could see said hints now, that they had sort of both confessed their feelings but before she had just been thinking about it. Their goodbye at the lake had been a constant memory in her mind in the past few days, but she had tried her best to focus on other things that were important at the time. Everyone was talking now, a few people were obviously excited about the people they had been paired with and Layla knew she was one of them. Sure he had been a bit annoying at first, but he had obviously been trying to play at mysterious. But that was long forgotten now, because she could only really focus on how happy she felt right now.
She watched as he grabbed his mask before they exited the great hall, and she wondered just where they were going again. She was about to open her mouth to ask once more, but he kissed her one more time and it really felt like she forgot what she was even saying at the time. It was kind of funny that he was having this sort of effect on her, she was supposed to be very level headed most of the time. But she was sure that all of the excitement over what was happening, and the fact that her heart was beating very loudly in her chest by the change in said situation were helping her lose focus easily. She didn’t even realize that some people were giving them weird looks, as they made their way towards one of the many corridors that Hogwarts had. She actually had no idea that this corridor even existed until Steve led her through it, and she was a bit surprised. She knew that Hogwarts had its nooks and crannies, after all a building so large was bound to have its secret passages. And Steve had obviously found one, given that there they were in a basically empty corridor, and she really lost all focus when he pushed her up against the wall. It was gently, but she hadn’t been expecting it so it threw her a little off guard. Especially when he got closer, and she really was starting to only focus on him. It really wasn’t natural that he was having this sort of effect on her, especially because he was sliding his hands down her sides and well it wasn’t like she was used to this kind of contact with him. Her hands were on his shoulders, she was using him as support in a way because even though she was against the wall she was starting to get a little light headed.
“Well at least we can agree on one particular idea, I want to be with you as long as you want me” she said, her tone breathless.

Steve honestly thought he was going to wake up from this dream the sooner he realized how close he was to Layla, and the fact he might as well have proposed to her right on the spot too. That thought was indeed thrilling, but it would have caused her to faint he was sure of it. Or maybe just a little swoon due to the fact he'd have even considered marrying her in the first place, but he wasn't here to bring up false hopes. In fact, they really hadn't even had their first "real" date considering this was supposed to be one of those parties where everything should have been a surprise. Keeping up to date with the current progress of the way he had asked her out, and now finally just settling down after kissing her a few times.
Regaining his composure would be the main thing in something like what he had dealt with today, but the real matter was the fact he had to find some place to take her out now. Where on Earth would he go, and how would he ask her out to a place he had never been before? Steve rarely left the castle unless he was with his sister, but even then that was incredibly rare in itself. Despite his out-going and easy-going sister, he was the opposite almost. Always slightly introverted in crowded places, but never one to stay quiet if someone else was near him trying to gain his attention. Normally he'd just answer questions when spoken to, and it usually cured his boredom until they started talking about some random subject he didn't understand.
Steve pondered the possibility of Layla having second thoughts about him, but once she had kissed him back he knew that she meant it and more. Grinning as he looked towards her, he soon kissed her one last time as he pulled back to let her gain her footing. "Well, at least you're able to stand still, but where do we go from here? I like you, would you like to go for a walk sometime?" he asked her softly. A walk...really Steve, really? You couldn't do better like Madam Puddifoot's tea shop, which was totally an un-orginal idea, or even Zonko's Joke Shop. There were many ideas popping up now that he had said what he was going to say.

She knew that she had to start thinking clearly, but everything was just so drastically different that she was having a hard time focusing. He liked her, he liked her as more than a friend, a possibility she had never really given a thought. Obviously their last conversation had played in her head multiple times in the past few days, but she thought that maybe she had heard wrong. She could have never fathomed that she’d be here right now, so close and having kissed him more than once. It really was amazing, but she knew that she had to focus on the facts now. Yes she liked him, yes he liked her, they could change the status of their friendship. She didn’t think that they’d break up, she had no immediate plans to end it, but she also knew that they had to be careful. The last thing she wanted was for it to not work out and to lose a great friend over it, not that she believed it wouldn’t work but you had to think logically sometimes. Obviously these logical thoughts were having trouble staying at the top of her brain because she still felt nice, especially when he kissed her. She lost all train of thought, and she knew that it was sort of bad but she couldn’t bring herself to care. He pulled back a little and she straightened up taking a breath looking at him.
“You seem to be repeating yourself Steve” she teased, “You asked me on a date earlier, and now a walk. Either way a walk sounds nice”
Layla couldn’t say that she was some sort of expert when it came to dating. If she was honest she had no idea where people went on dates, well she knew about the tea shop, but that’s where everyone went. She knew that she could suggest a picnic but because he was a pureblood he might not even know what that was. She only knew because her parents loved having picnics with her grandparents when they didn’t work. She had gone to a lot of picnics and she knew they had potential to be romantic, and it wasn’t like she couldn’t find a basket or anything like that. Actually the more she thought about it the more it sounded like a good idea. Just as long as it didn’t start raining they could say a time that they wanted to meet up, and they could find a nice spot by the lake and have a picnic. All she had to do was sneak into the kitchens for food, and then they would be all set. She knew that this would probably be something she would have to orchestrate since Steve wouldn’t know how to prepare for a picnic in the first place. They could probably go for a walk and then do that, or just do both things on completely different days. The only thing she was truly sure of right now that she would be glad to do anything with him, even if it was to just sit by the lake, as they often did, and stare at the view.
“I have an idea, if we do the walk, I can bring food and we can pick a nice spot for us to sit, and we can eat. Like a picnic. ” she said.

Steve was fully prepared for the onslaught of contradictions he had proposed just then, but he had sort of forgotten he had just asked her out. Yet here they were planning a date on top of a date already. Funny as that sounded to him he had to voice his concern over her sanity, but it was just in a joking manner. "Are you sure you're well, Layla? I mean a picnic, what is that?" he asked her curiously, just chuckling slightly as if she had something silly, but he knew she had grown up in the muggle world so it obviously had something to do with that. Steve was unsure how to handle such a tradition as this picnic thing, but he was certain there was some similarities between something else he would have called it.
Getting a snack is what it sounded like to him, but he could have been wrong, maybe he should have paid better attention at Muggle Studies. Not that he was going to take the class to begin with but it would have helped to understand his predecessors befire they even founded magic. Sure, it's been around for a while, but not forever as most wizards probably didn't start out from just nothing. Scratching his head lightly in thought he soon just ignored those thoughts again and pressed up against her form. Obviously enjoying the fresh smell of her and the fact she had looked so lovely in her dress.
Plus he had noted she had taken her mask with her to probably return to her parents or save it to remember the eventful night she had with him despite his many...accents. Deciding to tease her he used his earlier accent only once, "Pardon me, mademoiselle, what is a picnic?" he did it just to tease her. Letting out a slight guffaw at that as he was smiling stupidly at her now hoping she'd find it just as funny.

Layla had a feeling that Steve wouldn’t understand the word she had used, but of course she would have no problem explaining it to him. It was actually kind of funny because she thought that the idea of a picnic would be basically be pretty universal in whatever world. Then again the word wasn’t very descriptive, as to what it meant so she really couldn’t blame him for not knowing what it was. But she bit back a laugh as he used his earlier accent to ask what a picnic was. Normally it would have irritated her, just because she was staring him right in the face and obviously knew that he didn’t normally talk that way. But she felt too happy at the moment to feel very irritated, she wondered just how long this would last. Either way she would be happy to answer, just so that he didn’t think she was completely nuts and of course maybe he’d realize that it wasn’t that weird of a concept. She was trying to think of just how to describe a picnic, just because it was more than just sitting down and eating stuff outside. The basket was always a part of the picnic, and just the whole idea.
“Okay well the idea of a picnic is we pack food in a basket, and then we take a blanket or quilt with us so we can sit outside and eat” she said, “It’s basically the general idea, it’s something I did a lot when I was younger. My grandparents love picnics, we’d have one almost every week while my parents were working”
It was actually something she always remembered fondly, often she’d be allowed to bring a friend and they always had a good time. Picnics were full of fond memories so it was why she had suggested it. But of course it wasn’t something they had to necessarily do, after all not everyone liked them and there was no guarantee that Steve would even want to do something like that anyway. Well obviously he was curious about it because he had asked, but still if he said no she would have no problem with that. They could always do something else, it wasn’t like the picnic idea was the only thing she would ever want to do. Obviously she was second guessing herself right now, which was bad because she wasn’t usually like that. She scolded herself mentally she wasn’t even sure if he would like the idea or not and already she was freaking out at the possibility of him saying no. She just needed to relax and focus on happy thoughts, not on the idea that the idea was a bad thing. She brushed a strand of hair from her face that had escaped her hairdo, the pins were probably getting a bit loose after being in for so long. She knew that she was lucky that they had lasted so long, whatever Molly had used on her hair had been more effective than hairspray ever had been.
“And don’t feel like you have to like that idea, it was just a suggestion after all” she said with a small smile.

Steve was still new to this strange thing called a picnic but he supposed he had enough practice at the muggle world to figure out that this was what it was. Then it dawned on him that they did call that here, but why he had forgotten was beyond him. Perhaps it was best to tell her that he just remembered they do have picnics here, but they just called it eating out in some cases. Looking at Layla's form was rather enticing to him as he kept her pinned there for a moment or two as he considered his words and it was already midnight. So he figured they should at least get out of there for the time being and perhaps talk at a later date.
Already past midnight and they were obviously having the time of their lives, but luckily that didn't do much for his ego. Steve finally decided to let his body just go with the flow and soon pulled away from her when she mentioned that. Strange as it sounded, but he merely nodded towards her, "Yes I remember what picnics are now, but I still have to mention that we should probably meet up at a later date so that we can try going out on this picnic...also would you like to go to the Yule ball with me?" he added. Deciding to get that out now in case he forgot. That was all he really needed to say for right now, considering there wasn't much else to discuss now, and they would have to head to their own dorm rooms soon.
